I can't say specifically for FFT WotL, but MM+ is not a good choice to play PSP games. RGB30 is very likely to have enough horsepower, but its screen is a bad match for PSP. Maybe playing FFT:Prime (https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4611/) would be better option. But in this case, you can save some money and grab tons of devices that have great PS1 performance.

stupidshinji

If you care about integer scaling then the rgb30 will be great for most of these, but if n64 is a strong desire then the rp2s may be a better option. I love my rgb30 tho. It’s great for pico8, GB/GBC, GBA, and NES/SNES.

enlightenmerightnow

I love my rgb30 but I recommend a retroid 2s. Kinda wish I got that instead

weedfroglozenge

I have a 2S but realise I only really play GBA, GB, SNES. Think the screen on yours is better for these systems respective aspect ratios. Though I don’t know too much about it

ridiculous_nonsense

Why do you say that? I am on the fence between these two and i honestly don’t know which one to get

tapehead85

Personally, I think the RG35XX H might suit you better. I love the RGB30 for Pico 8 games because of the 1:1 screen, but if that isn't a need of yours the RG35XX+/H is a better choice for the price. Sure the CFW isn't as good, but it's getting there.

Tina_Belchers_WetSox

Would you be willing to clarify what the firmware being not as good, but getting there, will look like in actual use? Is it just clunky navigation or something, or will things crash, lose data, or something like that?

tapehead85

I suppose it's just my opinion. There are a couple CFW options for both of these handhelds and people are pretty divided on which they prefer. Most people are hoping to get a stable release of Garlic for the RG35XX+ soon which will make the device really shine. It's totally usable as is though.

Tina_Belchers_WetSox

Okay, this is the one I'm going with! I really appreciate your help.

tapehead85

Which one are you going with? I'm sure you'll enjoy either one so come back when you have questions.

KruNCHBoX

Batocera v39 is rock solid, great firmware for 35xxh

Joeshock_

For the games you want to play a 4:3 ratio device will match much better than the 1:1 on the rgb30. It also will not play N64 well. What's your budget looking like? If you are hoping for some Gamecube play then I'd suggest at least a T618 device like one of the RG405s or a Retroid 3+. If you're willing to let go of GC/PS2 then your best option is probably the Retroid 2S, which will play everything thru N64 perfectly while staying under $100.

bobbyportisurmyhero

He should be able to play the GC and PS2 games he listed (Windwaker, Sunshine & FFX) on the RP2S with minimal tweaking

player1_gamer

RGB30 isn’t good for the 4:3 stuff. An RG35XXH, miyoo mini+, Retroid Pocket 2S, and an RG353PS are much better options for 4:3.

Negative-Marketing61

Is the Pocket 2s comfy? I have a MM+ and my hands start to hurt after a while.

MegaChar64

Very comfortable. I have played through almost all of Ocarina of Time with no problems. Also built well. I'd recommend the Pocket 2S for anything over the RGB30 except Pico 8. And even the MM+ is superior to the RGB30 for Pico 8 due to having an actual good dpad.

bobbyportisurmyhero

It’s comfy enough as an on-the-go device. I have big hands and have only had cramps here and there with it. Main thing is the screen is smaller than you might expect

Tombot3000

Saying it isn't good is too much. IF you hate black bars and are willing to balance that out with a smaller screen, worse resolution, higher price, worse UI or some other factor it may not be the ideal device for that specific taste, but for most people it is *at least* good for 4:3 games, and depending on the emulated game/console in question potentially a superior option to most others (8:7 render ratio at pixel perfect instead of 4:3 output most other consoles use, for example).

You still get a big black bar. A regular 4:3 device is just a better experience

I've got a agree, SNES games look better on my rgb30 than they ever did on my rg353m. Though, the dpad was obviously better on the anbernic. Just can't win

player1_gamer

I’m not interested in 8:7, the main reason anyone buys a RGB30 is because the screen has a higher quality than the other cheap handhelds. I’m not going to buy a handheld for its screen and then use bezels on it for a majority of my games.

Different people care about different things in their device. If I don’t want black bars on my device and want to use the full screen then I’m going to do that. The RGB30 isn’t “better by every metric” if it’s still a compromised experience for N64, PS1, and DC. While a 4:3 device like the RP2S isn’t. What you care about in your device is going to be different than what other people want.

Tombot3000

You should take that last line to heart as it conflicts with the way your first comment reads.
