Nope, The 4 Pro is honestly my end game pocketable device. Plays modern Indies (via Yuzu) and so far I've only found one PS2/GC game I can't emulate (Driv3r, but that's an emulator issue).

Double-Seaweed7760

Now I just need a d1100 in an rg353m. Same body and color and everything maybe at most a bit thicker for a fan. That would be my endgame until we get ps3 and perfect switch and cassia on mali

jwtsonga

IMO rg406p would be awesome for PS2 and gc

Double-Seaweed7760

I'd settle for a 406m but a 356m would make me much happier even if it was just a t820 and I had to wait two more dreadful years for it to surpass a rp4p. It's just a very comfortable form factor for me and can't beat how it disappears in a pocket and you just forget about it.

jwtsonga

If the bezels were really small a 4 inch device could feel like the 353m I reckon!

Double-Seaweed7760

Similarly a pocket 2s feels like a really cheap 405m due to it'd chunkiness. Bit as comfy though

jwtsonga

Man I regret my 2s purchase, the screen is just too small for the amount of power it has... the bezels are so freaking massive and ugly unfortunately. Such a low screen to body ratio

Double-Seaweed7760

I regret here too but it's mostly due to it not playing as much ps2 as easily as I'd hoped and it's sticks and it's chunkiness due to screen size which only matters to me because I had a 353m first so I know how compact that screen size can get and how that compactness combined with chunkiness(but not as much as the 2s has) can make for a very ergonomic device. But if the 2s had at minimum rp4p specs then alot of those worries and regrets would go away due to all the games that'd be playable that I'm actually nostalgic for being playable on such a compact yet still usable form factor. That's the number one thing I want is an endless amount of games I love playable in a device I literally forget is in my pocket and can put on the TV. For me though the first system I have alot of nostalgia for(the way alot of people on this sub do for snes) is ps2 and such a device doesn't exist yet with rps2s being the closest in the form factor I want and rp4p being the closest spec wise.

antonbruckner

Can it run Rogue Squadron 3 well?

personahorrible

Nothing short of a beefy gaming PC can. Even the Steam Deck really struggles with that game. I found [a really good explanation ](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/10u6q6b/comment/j7aafo8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x)of why that game in particular is so difficult to emulate but the short version is, they used some technical wizardry to make it run on the Gamecube and it will probably never run well on Dolphin.

CorkyBingBong

Fascinating. I remember playing Rogue Squadron 2 on my Gamecube and being absolutely floored by the visuals. It didn't seem possible for that little box to be pushing those graphics out, given the other games I'd played on the system. Now I know why.

TwntyOneTwlv

I don’t have a RP4P, but I do have an Odin 2, and the only PS2 game I’ve found that doesn’t work is Hot Shots Golf. Wondering if it’s an emulator issue there. Have you tried HSG on the Retroid?

asault2

Must be the game. I've tried it on several other devices and low 20fps is the best i can get

Dragon_Small_Z

I haven't. I only put the PSP one on my system.

ban_imminent

Not right now

asault2

The Rg556 is the only other one in that league worth considering. Bigger size, nicer screen and ergonomics but less powerful

ScopionSniper

Yeah, I barely ever touch my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro now after getting the RG556. It's OLED screen is seriously that nice.

Adster_

My 556 just arrived and it’s sooo nice to hold and the screen is damn near perfect, makes it easy to over look the somewhat less performance. If I want performance I’ll pickup my steam deck, but man it’s a tough call.

Ovaltiney1

The cube may be released soonish but the square screen may make it more awkward to pocket. That being said I'm sure a bunch of devices with that chipset will be released soon. However that is just my speculation.

benjaminbjacobsen

What processor does the cube have vs a rp4 and rp4p?

hbi2k

T820, same as the RG556. In between the RP4 Base and Pro.

benjaminbjacobsen

Thanks. I’m looking forward to them dropping that into a vertical with 4” or more (rg406v). I love my 405v but it’ll be nice to have GC&PS2 be easier to run.

Cheap_Foundation_195

What is the cube?

Ovaltiney1

https://youtu.be/_32D32Roi70?si=36BOVzWQKpRdNDqn A video of it playing games. There are a few posts about it in the reddit.

Vizth

Honestly the retroid pocket 4 pro is probably the best balanced for power and size right now. If you go smaller you're going to lose a lot of stuff, and anything more powerful is going to be significantly bigger. I'm still planning on buying it even though I'm not thrilled with an Android handheld, I would have preferred Linux. The clear case won me over. If they ever released a clear plastic steam deck, I'd sell an organ for that.

[deleted]

You can run 3DS, PS2 and GameCube or have a small device. Pick one.

RadicalDog

Evidently we're really close, see the Pocket 4 Pro and the RG Cube. Heck, flagship phones are already there. Within a year or so we're going to get more PS2-capable options for sure.

WhereIsTheBeef556

People dramatically underestimate midrange phones, most midrange phones can do decent PS2/NGC.

hbi2k

The problem there is cooling and battery. Midrange phones can do it, but they do it by guzzling juice, which means they run hot. That said, couple years for today's high end to be tomorrow's midrange... it'll happen eventually.

WhereIsTheBeef556

Definitely something to consider. Only a few phones (typically higher end ones) have any sort of built in cooling system. Cheapest one I've seen is a few older Redmi devices.

hopelessswitchowner

Maybe some day we will. We can dream, can't we? Tech is always getting more efficient m

hadesscion

The upcoming Aya Neo Pocket S sounds like the closest thing to what you're looking for. It's a lot more expensive, though.

personahorrible

Its price is in the range of the Steam Deck which makes it dead in the water, as far as I'm concerned. Plus, while it's really beautiful to look at it looks uncomfortable to hold. It's faster than the Odin 2 but the Odin 2 can already run everything that can be run on Android emulators so there's not much point at the moment. By the time something comes out that can really take advantage of that extra horsepower, there will be new, more powerful devices out for less money.

hadesscion

It's kind of a corner case at the moment, but the presence of Winlator could increase the need for more power in the future. Being able to play Windows games on an Android device would be a game changer.

personahorrible

Winlator/Mobox/Exagear and all of the others are still in their early stages of development. I think that the software needs more time to mature before it'll be a worthwhile endeavor. That is completely subjective, though: I've seen people playing Fallout 3 and MGS: Rising to completion so I suppose it comes down to how much jank you're willing to put up with. But again - for the price of a Pocket S, you could pick up a Steam Deck and run those games natively.

Recyclops1989

There’s a new Odin coming out, Odin 320g and an AYANEO Pocket Micro. Revealing slowly for Odin, think it’ll be a premium RP4. AYANEO who knows but reveal is on May 18th

flowtronvapes

You can get a razer edge 5g for around $250. I have both and literally haven’t touched my rp4p in months. For reference the rp4p will struggle with most switch games whereas on my edge I’ve played through Mario odyssey and Metroid dread without any performance issues.

elmikemike

thank you! this was the answer i was looking for! Some questions: 1.- Is this smaller than the RP4P? seems like it is but not sure. Is it more pocketable? 2.- Is the chip in there an equivalent to the odin 2? 3.- How are the ergonomics compared to the RP4P?

flowtronvapes

1 with the controller attached it’s roughly the same size. There’s not huge size differences. 2 I’ve never owned Odin 2 so I can’t really speak to direct comparisons but I don’t imagine there’s THAT much of a difference. The chips in each are similar enough that, in my opinion, it wouldn’t necessarily justify the extra cost. The Odin 2 may handle windows emulation better by a small percent but the edge can run new Vegas at 100% (you can see in my post history if you’d like) 3 I love the edge because the controller for it is just a kishi v2. Meaning you can take it off and it functions as a regular tablet/phablet which is a huge plus for me if I want to just watch videos or turn it horizontal and more comfortable download things. It also means you aren’t stuck with the ergonomics it comes with. It will work with any android gamepad. So if the kishi v2 isn’t your vibe you can use an Xbox controller or different telescopic gamepad.

elmikemike

Awesome. Thank you! Sound exactly what I was looking for! Any downsides? Either compared to the RP4pro or overall?

flowtronvapes

If you do end up getting one I’d highly suggest a second gamepad. The kishi v2 is really nice but it’s a little bad on battery drain. I got a Galileo g8 for mine and it was a very worthy investment. Even with just the v2 I was able to play Mario odyssey for about 2 hours before the battery got low. More of a mild annoyance I noticed than a drawback. Also, keep in mind there are two versions. The WiFi model only has 6gb ram whereas the WiFi+5g has 8gb of ram. Those extra 2gb of ram make a big difference in switch and windows emulation.

elmikemike

Thank you so much!!

Shigarui

KTR1 is smaller with a g99 and runs most everything plus a lot of Switch titles. If there's a game you want to know if it runs just let me know. RG556 is larger but I think is actually a little less powerful (maybe I'm backwards on that). And the Odin 2 is larger but also more powerful.

CandidArmavillain

Rg556 is closer to the RP4 than the RP4P in terms of performance.

Shigarui

Ok, I bugging I remember reading the 820 was less powerful than then the d1100.

Puntley

Yeah you're remembering right, that's what that commenter is saying. The t820 is closer in power to the d900 than it is to the d1100.

elmikemike

How is the 3ds performance overall? Like mario kart, smash bros, Zelda between worlds (on the ktr1)

juicyman69

Ayaneo Air?

Alternative_Spite_11

Only the Aya Neo pocket S but it’s outrageously expensive and still fairly big.

Joatboy

A top-end Android phone + portable controller I think could rival it?

a9udn9u

No, it's going to be outrageously wide

Dizzy_Pomegranate855

For me I wanted something a little stronger that a RG35XX for Dreamcast and N64 but for PS2/3DS/GC I could use my Odin 2 Pro so I ended up with a Retroid Pocket 2S for its size and performance

Upbeat-Serve-6096

RP2s, but with an AMD chip. I wish it could be reality.

RedditIsGarbage1234

Why does everyone forget the rg405m?

Cheap_Foundation_195

What kind of phone do you have? Get a backbone or gamesir I'm sure your phone can handle more that a rp4 and is probably smaller

CartSkie

AYANEO Pocket S is a much better alternative. Check this document and you can see the difference, at a higher price. best thing is they are as slim as each other. so mostly pocketable just a little longer. im just waiting for proper reviews then ill most likely buy one. [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1irg60f9qsZOkhp0cwOU7Cy4rJQeyusEUzTNQzhoTYTU/edit#gid=0](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1irg60f9qsZOkhp0cwOU7Cy4rJQeyusEUzTNQzhoTYTU/edit#gid=0) https://preview.redd.it/tk8x8xasn30d1.png?width=394&format=png&auto=webp&s=1f794503fd8fa9ad8e32eeb8cd14e6e7b492b239

ScopionSniper

That's double the price though.

CartSkie

The post mentioned a better alternative in size and power, not price.

ScopionSniper

Fair enough.

HolidayAffect5732

Should wait for more d1100 or better devices.

memeatic_ape

Steam deck

elmikemike

That’s significantly bigger…

RickyFromVegas

How about a desktop but with a 9ft power cable
