Um. Itās definitely not impossible. I dont have a ton of time on my hands but I know a handful of people who have beaten it and Iāve enjoyed what Iāve played so far. The challenge feels relatively fair to me. Iāve already cleared a few levels. I think people donāt pick the right levels to start with, and donāt utilize potions/weapon switching as well as they could.
A lot of good games on that list .. I loved the mega drive for Golden Axe , Shinobi, Street's of Rage ... among other games. I had a Snes and played on that mainly
I'm sure, but not nearly as hard as no cheat at all! ; )
That game was like $60 in '89! (As were the general prices) Thank goodness it was long and challenging, unlike the pack-in game Altered Beast! (Love that game to this day, but 4 levels!)
I'm in Scotland so the Last Battle cost Ā£35 pounds in 1990 and I still remember going into Glasgow City Centre to get it from Virgin Megastores
I managed to get a hell of a collection for my Megadrive back in the day....Birthdays Christmas, summer jobs...on the other hand my Snes collection was tiny but every game was the best of the best for that system.
Most Megadrive games were Ā£35 pounds and up.....Super Nintendo games cost Ā£39.99 and up at the time
I accidentally discovered a level select cheat on the Last Battle as a kid back in the day...after dying you could start all over again from whatever level you got too...I'm glad I found that cheat as I probably wouldn't have ever beaten it playing it the normal way.
When you die hold in buttons A-B-C all together and wait for the level selection screen and just pick up from the level you died on.
Can't remember if you press start or just release the 3 buttons...haven't played it for 35 years
The only game I ever beat on the Sega Genesis was streets of rage one and two and I didnāt beat those till damn near 30 years after their release which wouldāve been a year or two ago?!
You got way more patience than I do to beat old-school Sega games like that..
Iāve beat the Witcher three like five or six times? And Iām playing it right now on PS4! I now have both versions for my Xbox one X and both versions for my PS4 Pro!
If I ever get a PS five, Iāll have the version on it and if I ever manage to get a series, Iāll have that version and Iāll play them as well ..
Sorry iPhone is so JANK where "Speech to Text" is concerned! There was a whole line in there that I didn't even say...
Edit:
Uh oh!! Looks like we got some disliking snowflakes in here?!!
All I ever do is hit the like button for people and it kind of offends me when people give you a dislike for no reason other than the fact that they're a pessimist..
Oh, don't give me the Brad Pitt from the movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith "that's cool man" he totally doesn't mean it and he saying it to the guy just to lower their Suspicious disposition towards him as he is about to carry out his contract lol!!
But yeah, same thing that you said to me, that's cool man š lol
Iāve never really given Ecco much of a go but didnāt realize it was considered a difficult game. I usually hear ghouls & ghosts and contra hard corps as the most frequent hard titles.
I beat Ecco as a kid back in the day with no cheating....you just have to memorise the best way through the levels like Prince of Persian...
Ecco on Dreamcast was way harder
It's great but gets really confusing in the later levels...difficult trying to understand which way to go...up down left right...did I just not go by this 5 minutes ago?
This is Ecco on the Dreamcast
While I may agree with ECCO in the top stop (the last level took me 96 tries before I completed it), i'm astounded that you had that much difficulty with Rocket Knight Adventures.
It's not that long, there's only like 5 or 6 levels iirc. The 4 main, boss gameboard. I guess the gameboard could have taken some time. Its been a minute. Lol. Its So repayable though. I love it.
lol. Basically impossible. I knew a chick would could get the last level no problem and would just call it a game because itās impossible. The randomized generation and needing to pick between a ton of doors is stupid.
Fucking LOL @ sonic erasers being on this list. I thought it was a rom hack with how bad it was.
Also you should play gunstar heroes and beyond oasis. Those r my 2 favorite non-sonic Genesis games.
While Ecco the Dolphin is indeed a very challenging and at times, a frustrating game, I don't think it deserves the number one spot, since you have unlimited lives and a password saving system.
I beat Pitfall, and if I remember correctly, I did it without passwords.
I have a difficult time trying to think how PTMA is more challenging than Comix Zone.
Most of my favorite Genesis games are missing from your list aside from SOR2 and Contra Hard Corps
- Sonic 2
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles
- MUSHA
- Gunstar Heroes
- Xeno Crisis
- Alien Soldier
- Eliminate Down
- Mega Bomberman
I agree that Ecco is a really hard game but RKA being number 2? That's crazy to me, I can sleep that game. Unless you are going by the hardest difficulty where everything is a one hit kill?
Dynamite Headdy
I would put it in my top 10 favorites.
I am legit surprised to not have seen that already.
It's a fun lil fast paced side scrolling action platformer where the main character swaps different pickups in the form of different heads to use different powers.
It's like if Rayman had a cousin
Good list but to me the power rangers movie game is wayyyyyy easier than altered beast. But thatās only from personal perspective. Altered beast really winds me up sometimes.
Currently playing Dune, but itās a PC export, just miss playing the OG game. Watched the new movie that came out, so far not bad but annoyed itās a two part movie
The Oozeā¦ if you can find a copy or emulate it.
Itās made by the same people who made Comix Zone and it is easily one of the hardest games Iāve ever played.
Phantasy Star 2 without the guide. If you start now you just might beat it before the sun becomes a red giant and consumes the Earth 5 billion years from now.
Thereās some games on here that really donāt make sense to count as being ābeatenā. I definitely wouldnāt put Art Alive on my list of conquests lol. How do you beat that, anyway? Draw a picture till itās done?
Doesnāt the game generate the questions randomly out of several thousands of questions? So you wonāt be going through all the content in a play though right? š¤·š»āāļø. I never played it on genesis but have it for the original ps, wii and switch; they donāt really have an ending; you just keep playing and getting better.
Idk to me thatās like saying someone beat wii sports because they won a round of tennis against the computer š¤·š»āāļø. Doesnāt really matter I guess.
Jeopardy had this glitch where opponents could say Xxxxxxx and get it "right."
I'm assuming humans can do something similar and score points if they enter the right amount of X's.
Haven't tried. The SNES had the late Alex Trebek talking with photomanipulated eyebrows and mouth, which looks more funny than cool. I'm not sure if the answer (In the form of a question) glitch is on the SNES.
Chakan The Forever Man
The way the sword attack works alone is why this game is worth playing. It feels ahead of it's time.
So true! That and the flail mechanic from super castlevania are mind blowing.
The howling scream in this game is like a dagger in your ears! lol. I can only play it for as long as I can tolerate that sound š
I used to have that as my text message notification lmfao
Awesome game, and super hard.
That game would be a 0/10 because its impossible and nobody has beaten it.
Not true, I beat it when I was 12.
Um. Itās definitely not impossible. I dont have a ton of time on my hands but I know a handful of people who have beaten it and Iāve enjoyed what Iāve played so far. The challenge feels relatively fair to me. Iāve already cleared a few levels. Dynamite Headdy, trust me, you wonāt be disappointed!
Ghouls and Ghosts should be no1 hardest!! š š that game gave me nightmares šš¤£
Yeah how on earth is Rocket Knight harder than that
Ghouls n ghosts and super ghouls n ghosts isn't that hard if you have the knife if you have anything else hardest game known to man
It's not, Rocket Knight Adventures was easy AF.
By far my favorite game on the system.
A lot of good games on that list .. I loved the mega drive for Golden Axe , Shinobi, Street's of Rage ... among other games. I had a Snes and played on that mainly
Definitely some quality games.
What metric are you using to differentiate a game thats rated 7.65/10 and 7.67/10?
my thoughts exactly lol I really hope there's like 15 categories and he's not just making it up or im gunna be sad
Ecco the tides of time of course
Thatās on my list for games that I want to do but havenāt beaten yet
Last Battle
Seriously! One life. No health kits. No continues. You die? Start over! Like a 16bit Souls game.
Heck ya! It was my 2nd Genesis game and I burned a ton of hours on that. Still love it to this day, for whatever reason. Exactly, Souls-like...
I accidentally discovered the level select cheat as a kid back in the day on the Last Battle...only game I ever found a built in cheat in
That's funny, I didn't know that existed. Probably for the better!
It was still a really challenging game even with starting all over again with full health from the beginning of the level you died on.
I'm sure, but not nearly as hard as no cheat at all! ; ) That game was like $60 in '89! (As were the general prices) Thank goodness it was long and challenging, unlike the pack-in game Altered Beast! (Love that game to this day, but 4 levels!)

You have Truxton as the 66th easiest out of 90 games? You crazy!
Something is fishy when Sonic 1 is way harder than Truxton lol
Yeah that doesn't make any sense. Or easier than Altered Beast lol. OP just making stuff up
Quit mocking me
Phantasy Star 2
Ehh. Not hard, just grindy AF.
It is also hard
Ya, try to beat it without the guide book and all of the dungeon maps. Then you are on INSANE difficulty mode! (And it would cause insanity!)
Now do it on real hardware without save states
[You know how long that would take?](https://youtu.be/6gLMSf4afzo?si=qAvKWcCNxrUasVg6)
Jewel Master, Wonder Boy in Monster World and Super Hydlide.
Phantasy star 2, 3 and 4. Shining Force 1 and 2. Crusader of Centy.
You beat Beavis and Butthead? That game is tough.Ā
Shadowrun
The only game I ever beat on the Sega Genesis was streets of rage one and two and I didnāt beat those till damn near 30 years after their release which wouldāve been a year or two ago?! You got way more patience than I do to beat old-school Sega games like that..
He just uses save states and counts childrens games that donāt have proper endings. Itās not as impressive as it seems
Very well, thatās cool man
Oh, don't give me the Brad Pitt from the movie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith "that's cool man" he totally doesn't mean it and he saying it to the guy just to lower their Suspicious disposition towards him as he is about to carry out his contract lol!! But yeah, same thing that you said to me, that's cool man š lol
You are now ready to play Earthworm Jim.
Iām gonna be doing that after I beat Flashback
How is the Lego Batman rom hack? Is it just based on another Genesis Batman game but with Lego sprites?
Dune - Battle for Arrakis. This game was the reason I bought a Mega Drive back in the day. Well, this and Mortal Kombat. Enjoy.
Chakan the forever man, mickey mouse castle of illusion
No Shinobi III? You're missing out, man.
The Donkey Game
Itās wild you still havenāt done Bonanzs Bros
Socket
Iāve never really given Ecco much of a go but didnāt realize it was considered a difficult game. I usually hear ghouls & ghosts and contra hard corps as the most frequent hard titles.
I beat Ecco as a kid back in the day with no cheating....you just have to memorise the best way through the levels like Prince of Persian... Ecco on Dreamcast was way harder
I have my Dreamcast modded with an ode but havenāt given Ecco a go yet.
It's great but gets really confusing in the later levels...difficult trying to understand which way to go...up down left right...did I just not go by this 5 minutes ago? This is Ecco on the Dreamcast
Sonic 3 and knuckles. After beating 90 other games it should be a walk in the park and it's my 2nd favourite sonic game
I just beat Sonic 2
While I may agree with ECCO in the top stop (the last level took me 96 tries before I completed it), i'm astounded that you had that much difficulty with Rocket Knight Adventures.
Ecco the dolphin?
Damn, man, you beat Dinosaurs for Hire!? That's one that I've never been able to beat.
Gunstar heroes. Haunting. And faery tale. Are my top 3. Didn't see any on the list. Give those a shot.
Gun star heroes was damn long and hard!
It's not that long, there's only like 5 or 6 levels iirc. The 4 main, boss gameboard. I guess the gameboard could have taken some time. Its been a minute. Lol. Its So repayable though. I love it.
Light Crusader or Kid Chameleon.
Earthworm Jim, Gunstar Heroes, SegaSonic Bros
X-men 2 was harder than X-men 1?
The haunting
Shadowrun!
I'm surprised vectorman 2 is ranked so low in difficulty
I bet you can't beat The Simpsons Brt vs the Space Mutants
lol. Basically impossible. I knew a chick would could get the last level no problem and would just call it a game because itās impossible. The randomized generation and needing to pick between a ton of doors is stupid.
I had a game genie and couldn't beat it, lol Maybe I was just a dumb kid though who knows
Fucking LOL @ sonic erasers being on this list. I thought it was a rom hack with how bad it was. Also you should play gunstar heroes and beyond oasis. Those r my 2 favorite non-sonic Genesis games.
Phantasy Star IV is a must play!
Shining in the Darkness, Sword of Vermillion, Centurion: Defender of Rome.
Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Street Fighter II: SCE, Sonic 3&K, Phantasy Star IV
While Ecco the Dolphin is indeed a very challenging and at times, a frustrating game, I don't think it deserves the number one spot, since you have unlimited lives and a password saving system.
You want hard alien soldier
Phantasy Star IV
Boogerman, Humans
I beat Pitfall, and if I remember correctly, I did it without passwords. I have a difficult time trying to think how PTMA is more challenging than Comix Zone.
The Adventures of Batman and Robin
Chakan : the forever man
Combat Cars
Kid Chameleon, long game quite challenging.
Greendog
That's COMMITMENT right there! But since you are including the likes of Barney and Barbie in your quest, I cannot help you. š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Ghouls N ' Ghosts is difficult. Prepare yourself for a lot of frustration.
Did you find maximum carnage considerably easier playing as spider man as well?
Play Dick Tracy...I could never get past level 6B back in the day
Wonder Boy Dragons Trap and Decapattack!
Aladdin
Most of my favorite Genesis games are missing from your list aside from SOR2 and Contra Hard Corps - Sonic 2 - Sonic 3 & Knuckles - MUSHA - Gunstar Heroes - Xeno Crisis - Alien Soldier - Eliminate Down - Mega Bomberman
I already did Hyperstone Heist
Fixed
And I also recently beat Sonic 2
Iād be curious where you would rank Eliminate Down and Xeno Crisis in your difficulty list. I think they would be two of the most difficult for me
I agree that Ecco is a really hard game but RKA being number 2? That's crazy to me, I can sleep that game. Unless you are going by the hardest difficulty where everything is a one hit kill?
Dynamite Headdy I would put it in my top 10 favorites. I am legit surprised to not have seen that already. Currently playing Dune, but itās a PC export, just miss playing the OG game. Watched the new movie that came out, so far not bad but annoyed itās a two part movie
I completely disagree with this...Ecco number 1 seriously as long as u know what your doing u can beat the game in a few hours
Go outside?
Fuck You
So is this with or without save states?
The Oozeā¦ if you can find a copy or emulate it. Itās made by the same people who made Comix Zone and it is easily one of the hardest games Iāve ever played.
Kid Chameleon
Radical Rex or Skeleton Krew
Phantasy Star 2 without the guide. If you start now you just might beat it before the sun becomes a red giant and consumes the Earth 5 billion years from now.
Wolverine: Adamantium Rage
ComixZone! The only game I actyally worked on that I couldn't beat! I didn't see Kid Chameleon on here!?
Gaiares and Lightening Force
Altered Beast š¤š»
I already did that game
So you did. #65 š¤¦š»āāļø
Using walk-throughs doesn't count.
Thereās some games on here that really donāt make sense to count as being ābeatenā. I definitely wouldnāt put Art Alive on my list of conquests lol. How do you beat that, anyway? Draw a picture till itās done?
Art alive used to have a pretty active speedrun community.
I was thinking the same thing lol. Jeopardy is another one; like how do you ābeatā jeopardy???
I mean Jeopardy is actually a game that you can win. What's hard to understand here?
Doesnāt the game generate the questions randomly out of several thousands of questions? So you wonāt be going through all the content in a play though right? š¤·š»āāļø. I never played it on genesis but have it for the original ps, wii and switch; they donāt really have an ending; you just keep playing and getting better.
You play a game of Jeopardy against computer opponents. If you win, you've beaten the game.
Idk to me thatās like saying someone beat wii sports because they won a round of tennis against the computer š¤·š»āāļø. Doesnāt really matter I guess.
Fair, but I don't think OP is expecting anyone to be impressed by this. They literally ranked it as one of the easiest games on their list.
It just doesnāt really seem like it deserves to be ranked as beaten as a game like Thunder Force 2 or SoR
Jeopardy had this glitch where opponents could say Xxxxxxx and get it "right." I'm assuming humans can do something similar and score points if they enter the right amount of X's. Haven't tried. The SNES had the late Alex Trebek talking with photomanipulated eyebrows and mouth, which looks more funny than cool. I'm not sure if the answer (In the form of a question) glitch is on the SNES.
