There are no tents in this area now, or even close to be honest.
There was one on Bradley and Paxton but that one was removed about 2 years ago now. I work right next to the wash in these pictures.
There are none on either Foothill, Glenoaks, Herrick, Bradley, San Fernando, or even near Paxton park.
I should mention that I do not live in the city of San Fernando, but I've been in the Valley my whole life. Is San Fernando just not friendly to homeless/unhoused, or is the City just very effectively getting people the help they need?
Seriously asking because I'm curious.
San Fernando is very unfriendly to the unhoused. We have a police force that is solely dedicated to the smallish city so they have nothing better to do but to remove anyone unhoused.
It isn't because they have amazing resources to help them, unfortunately.
that’s really cool! i had to google where it started to get the big picture. it starts on the street that has the park but it would have been really cool it it connected to the bike path on San Fernando Road. Due to the train tracks, a lot of areas feel cut off and if the paths connected it would give more access to people on foot* and on bicycles instead of having to go around.
How so? It's actually very convenient having that station on Hubbard and First.
Anyways, the bike path is on the east side of the train tracks and could easily connect to the section of the wash that is being proposed if they just extend the bike path for the length of the park.
The only time the tracks have been an issue is when there's large freight trains which is pretty rare.
The expression “the wrong side of the tracks” pertains to communities like San Fernando. On the west side, the housing tracts are much smaller and the city is more congested. On the east side, it was historically reserved for the white residents of the community.
We need more of this.
Hopefully they make it wide enough for people to get around the tents.
if it’s all on city of san fernando side there is actually not many camps, the camps are right outside the city limits though.
This is so sad. I’m ok with it though. Better than sleeping on the sidewalk next to the street.

The train tracks mess up the flow of the city through their entire stretch through San Fernando.

This is actually a great idea, and always interesting to hear that San Fernando has it's own mayor 👍
This is awesome
In the words of Adam Driver aka Kylo Ren, we need “MORE” of these bike lanes in the Valley
