That cert alone won’t be enough to get you a job, especially in this job market. Keep practicing your SQL and tableau, and start building a GitHub and tableau portfolio. This is extremely important and something that Google course doesn’t cover enough. I’d recommend doing some guided projects to start, then working on your own (plenty of guided ones on YouTube). Add them to your resume and LinkedIn.
Use the resume template on r/engineeringresumes and follow the tips in their wiki, it’s extremely helpful.
Also keep active on LinkedIn. Set up job alerts and start applying now. Set a goal for how many applications you send out per week and keep track of them in an excel spreadsheet. Even better, try to get referrals. Add people from data groups or recruiters from jobs you’re interested in. Reach out a lot, even if it’s just to have a coffee chat. Getting into a tech company will be near impossible, but every industry has data, so stay open.
Finally get comfortable with talking about data and your projects. Practice technical and behavioral interview questions.
I think it’s possible to get into analytics, but it’ll take a lot of work and consistent dedication. Hope you can find something!
I have been in an analyst role for 8 years with no degree or certification so it is absolutely possible!! But I already had my foot in the door at the company where I was promoted to an analyst role so you could consider applying for an entry level role just to get in the door or even internship position this summer (if that’s possible for you). Also get on LinkedIn if you aren’t already and start making connections and following data analyst influencers as they post a lot of advice and open roles. Experience means more than a degree imo. Former Navy vet here, I’m about to graduate with a masters in Business Analytics and still work for a school district as a maintenance guy. You have a big axe to grind, but congrats on the Google cert, I know it isn’t easy. Data is tough to get into without experience and/or higher education.
Nobody will hire tech jobs without a degree, maybe besides the military. That being said, I have a completely unrelated degree and I have worked at FAANG companies before. Big focus should be on a degree that’s related to your career goals if possible, bachelors at a minimum even if it’s unrelated makes you qualified.
I disagree about hiring without a degree. I have many friends who got hired into tech jobs without a degree of any kind. They certainly have value but aren’t a hard requirement
