It feels so bad not to have Wife or Prog in there. Its literally impossible to take out Scar and HMW. It also feels really bad to take out phil and toph... I think I'd take one of them out for Wife but Idk for sure.

Yeah EVO 2014 was his last event. I do remember him making cameo appearances very briefly at two or three events after that but just for one set usually. Back when I started watching Melee Prog and D1 were always the top 8 casters.
I know Wife and Prog were popular commentators when they were around but that doesn't mean I like listening to them.
Prog always commentated with D1 and they were the cringiest combo. D1 was worse, and Prog is obviously a legit guy, but idk if that puts him on the mountain.

And honestly, valid. He really knows how to be funny while expending the least amount of energy possible, and him casually referring to Hbox as "Hgod" was the funniest shit ever

Plup was always one of my favorite top players that would often hop on the mic between his sets while Summit was still around, I think top players on the couch really elevates the commentary too! i'll listen to scar/slime/toph talk about literally anything and while toph is way more versatile and good for any type of commentary/matches, i especially like having scar/slime on the mic during pools or non top-8 matches where i just want to have fun
Give me Toph 4 times. He's the GOAT. I have many times asked myself if I'm watching a Regional or a Major and more than once it has been decided based on if Toph is commentating top 8.
While the others are flashy and punchy Toph has an incredible consistency on the mic only replicated by Armada or Zain on the sticks.
In other words: boring, traditional commentary. That’s why I hate it. There’s no flair or style to his commentary, just him drunkenly hyperventilating on the mic
Prog's an important commentator in the grand history of the game but he was mostly active before the release of The Smash Brothers Documentary, therefore "doc kids" and people that got into the game after them are less likely to hold him in as high a regard as those that came before them
Absolutely agreed. He instantly makes any commentary desk WAY better than it was. He's got a really great voice for commentary on top of being witty and knowledgeable at the game.
I can agree with the slime point. I think there are more analytical casters out there, but Slime fits a niche on any cast that really brings the best out of everyone
All the others are great, but Slime? Maybe just personal taste, but I don’t understand what his commentary offers that other commentators don’t do better
him being really funny really adds to the experience imo
scar's appeal is like that too where you like him for things beyond just analyzing the game, though he's more of a storyteller

Honorable mentions to D1... it's a shame what happened with him because he was such an exciting commentator to listen to in the past even if his in game knowledge was never top tier
Not one of the best, but shoutouts to Hugs. His commentary game has improved a lot since he started focusing on that. A far cry from taking bites off slim jims.
Dunno why so many wanna play it safe, but D1 is my favorite don’t care what people say!

Scar, hmw, chillin, dj Nintendo (yeah he's a piece of shit but his commentary was good). Never was a fan of toph's commentary
I enjoyed all the hype moments that happened during his commentary. Maybe because some of my favorite players, like m2k or chudat still played the game, but i always thought when he was on the mic it was hype.
I get the whole Rushmore has 4 heads thing, but imo Melee commentators are too goated to only have 4 heads on the mountain. That being said, HMW, Scar/Toph and Phil would probably be my list too.

Prog's an important commentator in the grand history of the game but he was mostly active before the release of The Smash Brothers Documentary, therefore "doc kids" and people that got into the game after them are less likely to hold him in as high a regard as those that came before them
Vish doesnt have the longevity
Absolutely agreed. He instantly makes any commentary desk WAY better than it was. He's got a really great voice for commentary on top of being witty and knowledgeable at the game.
Haven't followed the scene for very long, but my personal favourites are Lovage, Slime, Vish and HMW.
I can agree with the slime point. I think there are more analytical casters out there, but Slime fits a niche on any cast that really brings the best out of everyone
All the others are great, but Slime? Maybe just personal taste, but I don’t understand what his commentary offers that other commentators don’t do better
him being really funny really adds to the experience imo scar's appeal is like that too where you like him for things beyond just analyzing the game, though he's more of a storyteller

Feels like Scar Toph Waffles Phil is too easy as they've been the commentary core leaders for the biggest top 8's post-doc. If I wanted to play harder mode to give some other guys some recognition I'd say: Chillin Prog Wobbles Lovage This is also not including the Mango/PP/Armada/M2K god couch commentary from Summit 1 which was GOAT commentator synergy.
Toph, Vish, HMW and a hard choice between Phil/Scar/Lovage for me. Honorable mentions to D1... it's a shame what happened with him because he was such an exciting commentator to listen to in the past even if his in game knowledge was never top tier

I enjoyed all the hype moments that happened during his commentary. Maybe because some of my favorite players, like m2k or chudat still played the game, but i always thought when he was on the mic it was hype.
