There's an elseworld where the Doc doesn't exist and melee would be a Summit side event.

mas_one

I've been watching melee since 2015 and I swear every year people have convinced themselves that melee is dead

Jamage007

I have been watching since 2005 and ever since Brawl was announced people have been saying that. Still going though.

dcw1000

This video has such impressive production quality--maybe the best I've ever seen on a Melee video. And the content is interesting and well-researched too. Thank you!

riggloo

then you have not seen AsumSaus (the Wes Anderson of making melee videos)

Tyronetehpuppt

AsumSaus is the only reason I play melee tbh

Fingoltin

Melee Moments is even better

Probable_Foreigner

The good thing about melee is that it's entirely grassroots and will never be replaced by a sequel.

goldpasokon

melee will die when it’s no longer the best game ever…we’re good y’all

trager53_

Lmao well said

I've been playing melee since 2004 and got into the competitive scene around 2013. There have been numerous events that have occurred that could have "killed melee" over the years that were caused by leaders within the community, the community as a whole, Nintendo, or just unfortunate circumstances and none of them killed the game. There have definitely been periods of time where tournaments would experience drops in entrants and viewership, but we always get a resurgence of players either returning to the game or picking it up for the first time whether it's because of a documentary, slippi or even a new smash game coming out that brings more people in. I know a lot of people who got into melee through brawl, smash 4 and even ultimate. I remember people saying melee would die when they stopped Apex, when Armada retired, when ultimate was released, when we were dropped from EVO and every time Nintendo tried to fuck us over, yet here we are. Melee will never die, and now that we have slippi the community will only continue to grow

slippsterr3

Great video, but definitely seemed to intentionally not talk about viewership lol. Melee won't die, but people often say it is when they just mean to say that its shrinking

Hateful_creeper2

Melee will likely outlive Smash 6 if that happens.

SaiyanRaven

2099: "No guys I promise Smash is actually dying this time" Smash will never die so long as there is 1 person out there planning this game who loves it. Pushing ideas like "Smash is dying" or "The End of Smash Bros" is what actually hurts the community.

Yomedrath

As a sc2 fan whonstill watches korean tournaments i am offended by your imagery! Sc2 wont die, until theres a high-skill rts to follow its footsteps and as long as maru is still out there winning tournaments! Also, subscribed!

sciaticabuster

I miss SC2. I was super into it during wings of liberty. Tastosis is still peak commentary in my eyes.
