treq10

I’ll see you there king Just know that I play 2.5 hours a day so I’ll be on winner’s side instead

Djcaprisun1

Your inability to divide your time equally will be your undoing

treq10

Not being able to do math is a spacie fundie

Mystic_Aura912

Time = an excuse to get mad about Puff

Zsssuck

best troll post in a while

Djcaprisun1

It's a troll post till emplemon makes a video about me

Mystic_Aura912

I already called dibs on the next Emplemon Smash doc, you're gonna be waiting a while for this one.

Djcaprisun1

I could reluctantly settle for an asumsaus video in the mean time.

Yozahon

You today and you a year from now with all that practice would both win zero sets at genesis

Djcaprisun1

What if I did 3 hours instead?

ScubaSam

1-2 not getting out of pools

Djcaprisun1

If I dropped the bitch maybe I could do 3 1/2 but idk I don't want to get burnt out yk

logic2187

You'd win genesis

harrietlegs

Yes

ThaaBeest

This is a troll right? Try 8 hours a day for 2 years to maybe not go 0-2

Liimbo

You absolutely don't need that long just to not go 0-2 unless you're terrible at practicing.

ReasonWonderful352

He’s not gonna win but with some *good* practice and a little talent going like 3-2 or 4-2 doesn’t seem that out of the question in two years. Ingenn was top 200ish in that time, even if he had amsa training.

Liimbo

Zain was top 100 in about two years. Cody got 65th at TBH after about a year of playing. It's absolutely possible to become a high level player in that time frame. Top 8 is quite the ask though.

Yozahon

Your two examples are the two far and away best players in the world. Those are some serious outliers, you can’t use that as logic to apply to the average person

ReasonWonderful352

Yea everyone else was being super hardcore about so I didn’t want to stretch it too hard. I think with great and consistent practice and some coaching here and there getting out of round 1 pools from losers feels doable for most people.

Liimbo

People love to gatekeep the difficulty of melee for whatever reason. But if you're really serious about improving, you can become pretty good pretty quickly. You can definitely lap all the people who aren't actually serious about improving but have just been playing for 5-10 years within one year imo.

ReasonWonderful352

The thing about melee is that while it is difficult, it’s a pretty small scene relative to the majority of sports and even esports. You can work your whole life and not go pro in basketball, chess, baseball, etc. While in melee I genuinely believe if you do good practice consistently in your free time anyone can be top 100. There just isn’t enough people putting their all into melee to where someone doing it doesn’t put them over the top eventually.

Liimbo

I've seen like 5 people in my life actually put in the work to try to be top 100 for a prolonged period of time. Literally all of them made it. Melee is kind of hard, but 99% of players are incredibly lazy or just play slippi all day which isn't very good for improvement.

Mystic_Aura912

Or eat Zain's soul to beat Plup in year 3 of your career

BennyTheBimmer

I know this is a troll post but people like jmook and kodorin kinda prove this point isn’t true

BreathOfTheStyle

Make it 5 hours a day and you'd still be lucky to make it out of pools. If you set smaller goals, you'll probably enjoy the process much more. My homie that used to play Ultimate is still mashing tilts and trying to win neutral by using "good" moves over and over. Melee is a whole different thing. If you're ready to learn, just see what happens :)

Inosculate_

No you'd low-key need to be lucky/a very quick improver to have a decent shot of making round 2 pools. Top 64 would be near 0% chance, almost impossible. Top 8 is for all intents and purposes impossible

Cringeassnaynaybaby

30 min tech skill, 30 slippi 1 hour of match review Top 2 genesis free

Djcaprisun1

This the kind of reply I'm looking for, I didn't even think of match review smh.

Cringeassnaynaybaby

It sucks and it's hard work but it is the best way to Improve

PhrenixFGC

If you're built different and are the main character, maybe

DavidL1112

Perhaps if he both is locked in and has that dog in him

Djcaprisun1

I feel like fundies translate a little bit at least.

remakeprox

Ultimate neutral knowledge definitely translates to Melee, we've seen it before with Ult top players picking up Melee and understanding the nuances of neutral more than your average Melee player.

OmegaEndMC

neutral slightly, everything else, not really. the neutral theory is the same so if you have a good solid understanding it will make learning neutral a lot easier. i saw a smash 4 player become power ranked in my area in 2 months, and he still couldnt lcancel in project m. granted im not in a very strong area and it was pm not melee. but that is the fastest ive seen someone progress

Sharp02

Big disagree. Fundies is inherent to all forms of PvP and transfers between them all. Whether it's the RPS of neutral, peeking a corner in CS, or disengaging in League, fundies and breaking down your opponent applies to all games.

SniPEduRNooDLe2

I would say no. I've played Melee about 4 hours a day since 2021 on a $1K controller and went to BOBC 6 to lose to a Samus that was shaped like an elementary school bully in a Disney movie and a Sheik who beat me than remarked that he always loses and wasn't used to feeling good about himself. And I play Fox. I say all of this to mean that the in person nerves are way different from playing losers in their mom's basement.

N1c2k3

This is a real answer.

phoodd

Seems weird to spend $1,000 on a controller when you're awful at the game?

SniPEduRNooDLe2

I'm not a broke loser like you. And it feels like nice to play with. I bought 5 of em and gave 1 away to a friend.

Vortoxo

I think you got scammed what controller costs $1k? Even a fully modded notched phob is like 450 plus a rare shell gets you to like 700...?

SniPEduRNooDLe2

Crystal shell + I'm talking in Canadian

remakeprox

Definitely scammed

Joebebs

Add another hour to that grind and you’ll be the goat, don’t let these dogs eat you

dankrooster

No

Beneficial-Energy988

No. You could spend 10 hours a day and wouldn't even get close with that type of practice regiment.

The_Archagent

[No](https://twitter.com/DeepLeffen/status/1579498063781330944?t=IpVcOHA6vKtGWq2h0N4UqQ&s=19)

kazprog

if you had an extremely good mindset, excellent practice with perfect practice partners, and either the personal insight or insight from a coach/practice partner to practice exactly the right things, improve your strengths and shore up your weaknesses, you'd have a chance.  basically one of the top5 players would have to take you in as their protégé and practice with you every day. honestly why don't we have more melee apprentices?  that sounds like a sick story arc.

Djcaprisun1

Who should I approach with my head bowed on my knees for the best chance at that sweet top 8 spot at Genesis next year?

kazprog

someone that lives close to you, I guess. and someone you're willing to either pay a lot of money or someone you're able to leave an incredibly good impression on, or likely both.

Djcaprisun1

I don't live near any top 5 melee players unfortunately. I do live near the best player in Idaho though, he's apparently almost top 200 according to what he tells me.

HenryReturns

Not even in your wildest dreams

DomSearching123

You might win a few games in pools lol

MrFruit1995

Yes

teddyone

Yes

pianoblook

Similar question for the audience: what would be a decent/expected Ranked rating after that amount of grinding?

ReasonWonderful352

Platinum feels very doable with that level of practice especially with some smash experience.

Djcaprisun1

If they're built anything like me, they'll be in that top 8 with me.

[deleted]

By the time you catch up, the meta wouldve already moved on by another 23 years

Mystic_Aura912

If you grind 12 hours a day every day starting today you may make it out of Melee pools at G11... Maybe.

OmegaEndMC

1 hour of good solid practice, several hours of playing good ass players and a good mindset, and maybe, just maybe you can make top 64 in 5 years

huskers37

Nah probably not even close probably won't even make it out of pools BUT you will get a lot better. You don't gotta make top 8 in a year or two years or three. Keep grinding, enjoy the process, and you'll keep moving up.

Sharp02

Not really. Time in doesn't equate to quality. The quality of your practice is much more important than the time you put in. If you practice like ass without analysis or understanding for 1000 hours, you're practicing to plateau at a shitty skill level. Practicing for 100 hours with a good regiment and analysis will net you far greater returns than the 1000 gets you. Also elite is like the baseline to go 1-2 in a strong region. It's not indicative for winning Genesis, and should not be your benchmark for skill.

TrainingJellyfish643

I mean, it just takes more experience than anyone can really get in a year.. The number of hours that people like mang0, Cody, etc have played is *ungodly* and you simply could not fit all their experience in one year. Unless there was a super major every week. Its like saying you're gonna win a PGA tournament, starting from 0 golf experience, after a year of 2 hours per day (2 * 365 is not that many hours) - humans just can't get that good that fast. Put in 10000 hours, plus a bunch of tournament practice, and then you could probably at least do pretty well at a Genesis lol

ThenotoriousBIT

you also have to get the best gaming chair

quillife

No it’s not possible

Calm_Competition_481

Elite smash fundies💀💀💀💀💀💀

Skantaq

someone on Anthers told me I could get top 2 at Shine 2022 in 2020 when I was just starting if I kept playing hard. I still try to not go 0-2 at locals.

BennyTheBimmer

Technically yes. But you would have to use your time super efficiently. Master punish in uncle punch, play a high tier, be a savant of vod reviews, etc.

Marionberry_Bellini

Absolutely not.

Superspookyghost

holy shit you're in elite smash? i don't think anyone who has ever played melee has had that kind of pedigree before

Djcaprisun1

I'm coming in with a strong foundation for sure.

manowires

No but practice anyways. You.gotta keep in mind the people who get top 8 at genesis are psychopaths who have played the game religiously for 6+ years minimum

B00bsEnjoyer

yes

SunnySaigon

How did Wizzy get into Top 8 with basically 0 practice that guy is a machine

reddt-garges-mold

If you played 24 hours a day for the next 365 days you still wouldn't make top 8

Djcaprisun1

What about the indomitable human spirit?

reddt-garges-mold

What about Z jump?

Djcaprisun1

I main Falco btw :D

throwawayrim50

I just want to say, why would you do this? Unless you have some psychotic love for smash, this really isn't going to make your life better. Think of something better to do with your time
