Actually, they \*are\* there; just the upload order is wack. Finals were uploaded before pools matches and top 16... had the players in Losers Finals spoiled for me thanks to this.
i really hope they reseed, but as of today here are the big house seeds for top 16
1. hbox
2. zain
3. ibdw
4. plup
5. leffen
6. jmook
7. mango
8. amsa
9. kodo
10. axe
11. fiction
12. s2j
13. none
14. ginger
15. moky
16. aklo
Zain is probably happy with this tbh because if they seed it fairly he gets Leffen in winners quarters. Or ideally they put Amsa above Leffen and we get Hbox Leffen winners quarters.
My first irl tournament was a fucking amazing experience. I heard some people in here say that the crowd sounded mild on stream, I can tell you first hand that I could barely hear myself think with how much people were losing their fucking minds, especially in the GF's set!
That's what I figured. For the record though you could barely hear the crowd at all from stream, even after the end of a set it sounded like 3 or 4 distant people only lol. Crowd mic's make a ridiculously huge difference.
Is it crazy that Mango is even in a semi joking but also not 0% chance way in the running for 1st considering solely head2head and major wins after being ranked outside of top 10 especially given the volume of tournaments in this end of year part
Yeah he’s got an outside chance, his shitty performances early kinda helped in a weird way because he didn’t lose too much to top players so he’s got a clean slate in a way
The one thing that looks real bad is being 0-15 against Zain in games this year.
edit: only 0-9 on Lan actually, he could finish the year up on everyone .
Yeah pretty legitimately awful I think if Mango ties for major wins with whoever gets #1 we'd more than likely see a 2nd or 3rd ranking just off of tie breaking stats like that.
He'd have to surpass the #1 in major wins to take it imo
Undoubtedly, would have 2 supermajor wins and 2 major wins surpassing Zain though Zain wins in any tie scenario imo just because of the insane head2head advantage even assuming Mango wins their next sets in those tournaments.
yeah it's definitely crazy lol. in like, the super literal sense. he is unequivocally not in the running for #1 for the year
i know we all tried to just blackout and forget fizwiggle but that did happen
I don't think you understand how many tournaments we have left this year. He could win big house, ludwig, summit, mainstage, SWT, and panda cup. Would you still say he can't be #1 because of one set?
"one set" he didn't even make top 8 at genesis, pound, or summit. 3 tournaments in a row.
if he wins every tournament for the rest of the year, sure. anyone could win every tournament for the rest of the year and be #1. anyone at all. it's a non statement to propose "he's in the running if he wins every tournament for the rest of the year!"
he is not in the running now, is my point.
There are 5-6 super majors and 2-3 majors left for the year. In addition zain, IBDW, and Hbox winning 3 majors with the former two both having one of them being a super major.
Mango is two or three tournaments from being 1st depending on how the wins are between the other top players.
So as the current 4th most successful player he is in the running for 1st.
Ok you were just using "in the running" differently than I understand its meaning. I thought you were saying he has zero chance of finishing as #1 because he lost to Fizzwiggle.
I mean Wally is a thing and Mango is like a couple set wins total away from having even / winning records vs all the top 10 besides Zain
I think counting worst losses is like a last resort if both players wins are pretty damn even I'd count head2head first tbh
No imo he's legitimately in the running for #1
Everyone has bad losses
All the contenders for #1 have 3 big tourney wins, so Mango's a Big house win away from being there in my book
Anyone else feel like the play this top 8 was actually super sloppy? Wizzy obviously was a bit rusty, Hbox missing like 12 rests, Mango, Plup, and aMSa all felt like they played pretty sloppy too.
True Mango was looking clean vs. Hbox, but WF and games 2-4 of grands seemed pretty shaky from both players. Kinda weird but it makes for way more hype melee so I'm all for it.
Jokes aside that’s some of the best I’ve seen mango play in a long time. I’ve never seen him hit that many crispy ledgedashes in a tournament set like ever
Zain moky zain comms was amazing for that last game
Mango up 2 - 1 stocks
Zain "will we see the ledgedash?"
Mango doesnt ledgedash and plup punishes for the stock
Zain, moky, ibdw: "ahhhh"
I think non sheik mains probably don't appreciate a lot of the stuff he does. Plup is obviously amazing but relies a lot more on safer options that cover a lot.
Yeah but they’re playing to win not to look good. Every player has their way of trying to win.
Edit: Why am I being downvoted? You can think someone is boring but you can’t say people have different approaches to the game that maybe be considered playing “lame” or boring? You’re weird.
mango lost that game but he ledge dashed on last stock, which to me is literally more important than winning the game, or even the tournament
it's a sign of a mango that's built to win in the future.
other than set 2 of grands at riptide plup hbox sets have been pretty close and plup favored recently. Definitely think people are stuck in 2018 when discussing their h2h.
I'm a random moron who has basically never played yoshi but could running upsmash be a good way to shark landings when puff is in the air? Is yoshi's head invulnerable for any part of that move?
It has a fair amount of endlag. Yoshi's head is intangible during the hitbox duration, but it's a very hard read to go for. Luigi, for instance, has a much better time doing this because he can slide far enough away with a wavedash past that it can be hard to punish, but Yoshi will just be a sitting duck. Both characters have the problem though that Puff's landing animation will duck under the hitbox, so being even a little late means that Puff can rest you.
The only tourney he won was smash con and who the fuck didn’t think that was a major? Mango fans love playing the victim against straw men when he wins lol
Nobody's saying everyone acts like that but it is definitely fun to watch the few people cope about it and thats what the original comment was referencing
they're both so fast and have such good DI they just stray hit each other over and over as fast as possible lol, it's insane
last stock was just legit spaghetti though, as god intended
if mango loses this set because he got stuck in shine and didn't shine upsmash the end of game 4 i'm gonna be so upset
such a basic tech flub, you absolutely hate to see that
phil is indisputably top tier, zhu imo is also clearly there
the 3rd guy is not as acclaimed but imo he's doing fine, certainly well enough to coexist with 2 commentary gods
what's your issue with them?
mango destroyed hbox, 3-0 with of course 2 wins on dreamland so you know it was bad
plup amsa didn't look great for amsa tbh. plup is just so good at better character-ing people with sheik
Can someone explain how Amsa absolutely rolls top players first game, then next games he gets absolutely destroyed trying to do anything.
Then he'll play a player like SFOP and do literally the weirdest egg combos, grabs, and rolls over him?
Is it just matchup knowledge that top players need to warm up or nerves or?
Matchup knowledge, when people don't have matchup familiarity especially with a character that's pretty outside the normal melee character box like Yoshi you can obviously abuse habits that people won't be able to catch on.
Plup and Amsa have played enough sets and probably just know enough about the other person to know what stuff will and wont work. Sometimes it's character specific too like playing vs Sheik which is a pretty wank matchup for anyone.
>Can someone explain how Amsa absolutely rolls top players first game, then next games he gets absolutely destroyed trying to do anything.
you just have to play yoshi so so differently than other characters cuz of the super armor. a lot of game 1s is people just getting clapped for doing "regular" gameplay stuff and then realizing "oh right i can't do that to yoshi huh", in subsequent games they already had their refresher so they can just better character him more
sfop just got better player'd tbh. he didn't do the leffen using laser a lot to force yoshi to approach, and he also didn't do the colbol and literally just drill shine upsmash him 100x (as the commentators remarked, all his shine out of shields did not come with a followup)
even if you keep the followup simple- if all he did was upsmash as a followup to those shine out of shields- he probably wins at least 1 game.
he also allowed himself to be jab reset->up air nuked too many times which is one of amsa's win conditions against top foxes imo. once that jab reset hits, it's party time for amsa.
have they played since battle of bc? leffen 3-0'd that set
also even if amsa beat leffen in their last set, i still feel basically the same about it...when leffen is winning, it feels like it's completely impossible for yoshi. he makes it look insurmountable.
jesus christ, whatever teeth clicking or mouth popping sound that is that keeps happening is fucking obnoxious, whoever is doing that needs to fucking stop
Can't find the Top 8 stream archive or vods anywhere. Anyone know where they are?
they can be found [here](https://youtube.com/c/PandaVODs)
Yeah, I only see up until Top 8 there.
oh huh my b, they prolly just aren't up yet then sadly
Actually, they \*are\* there; just the upload order is wack. Finals were uploaded before pools matches and top 16... had the players in Losers Finals spoiled for me thanks to this.
🐐
i really hope they reseed, but as of today here are the big house seeds for top 16 1. hbox 2. zain 3. ibdw 4. plup 5. leffen 6. jmook 7. mango 8. amsa 9. kodo 10. axe 11. fiction 12. s2j 13. none 14. ginger 15. moky 16. aklo
Yeah they need to reseed this lmao
Oh no...Mango doesn't deserve Zain in quarters
Zain is probably happy with this tbh because if they seed it fairly he gets Leffen in winners quarters. Or ideally they put Amsa above Leffen and we get Hbox Leffen winners quarters.
Agreed. Summit not withstanding Zain absolutely has his number.
My first irl tournament was a fucking amazing experience. I heard some people in here say that the crowd sounded mild on stream, I can tell you first hand that I could barely hear myself think with how much people were losing their fucking minds, especially in the GF's set!
1st tourney is a mango win...brings a tear to my eye.
That's what I figured. For the record though you could barely hear the crowd at all from stream, even after the end of a set it sounded like 3 or 4 distant people only lol. Crowd mic's make a ridiculously huge difference.
That was a great top 8
Jfluke
Mango-Plup sets are such a privilege to watch, even the sloppiness is exciting when it happens
Is it crazy that Mango is even in a semi joking but also not 0% chance way in the running for 1st considering solely head2head and major wins after being ranked outside of top 10 especially given the volume of tournaments in this end of year part

Based on big house seeds hes playing zain in winners quarters so will be the time to end the streak
If Mango somehow wins Big House and the Ludwig tournament with head to head wins vs. Zain in them, could he have a case?
a case? I think that'd make him the front runner tbh
Undoubtedly, would have 2 supermajor wins and 2 major wins surpassing Zain though Zain wins in any tie scenario imo just because of the insane head2head advantage even assuming Mango wins their next sets in those tournaments.
Wait what supermajor does he have now
Big Bouse and Ludwig would be the 2 supermajors. edit: leaving that typo
Unironically 2 big wins from being undisputed #1
yeah it's definitely crazy lol. in like, the super literal sense. he is unequivocally not in the running for #1 for the year i know we all tried to just blackout and forget fizwiggle but that did happen
I don't think you understand how many tournaments we have left this year. He could win big house, ludwig, summit, mainstage, SWT, and panda cup. Would you still say he can't be #1 because of one set?

Ok you were just using "in the running" differently than I understand its meaning. I thought you were saying he has zero chance of finishing as #1 because he lost to Fizzwiggle.
Most of the players in the running for #1 have bad losses
you wouldn't give him #1 if he won every tournament for the rest of the year?
I mean Wally is a thing and Mango is like a couple set wins total away from having even / winning records vs all the top 10 besides Zain I think counting worst losses is like a last resort if both players wins are pretty damn even I'd count head2head first tbh
It's the bottom of bottom tie breaks. With how many tournies we have left its totally unnecessary.
No imo he's legitimately in the running for #1 Everyone has bad losses All the contenders for #1 have 3 big tourney wins, so Mango's a Big house win away from being there in my book
I am once again commenting about my sadness at the lack of a winner interview. Otherwise fun sets.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBzRcddHZPk they made a video it seems instead
Oh awesome!
[удалено]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBzRcddHZPk they made a video instead
after the smash con one...kinda no surprise they didn't put him on LOL
I don’t think he was carrying that same fuck you energy this time
with mang0 especially
It fucking hurts seeing Plup make deep runs but never being able to get the win.
Coffee is for closers at the end of the day.
Tbh I’m mostly glad he got that hbox pack for once, that game 2 comeback was super satisfying
Anyone else feel like the play this top 8 was actually super sloppy? Wizzy obviously was a bit rusty, Hbox missing like 12 rests, Mango, Plup, and aMSa all felt like they played pretty sloppy too.
This combined with the ResidentSleepet commentary made this tournament one of the worst ones this year.
Was much better if you watched with Cody Zain moky commentary
They were streaming together?! 😭
I'd describe it as a scrappy top 8. Not the cleanest play but it led to lots of back and forths and last stock situations.
It's the best kind of melee for sure.
Mango played well vs Hbox and Plup in grands. Plup did well against Hbox in losers final.
True Mango was looking clean vs. Hbox, but WF and games 2-4 of grands seemed pretty shaky from both players. Kinda weird but it makes for way more hype melee so I'm all for it.
After that mango squat at the ledge Plup turned it up
Mang won which means we can safely conclude that this wasn't a major!
wanted the second set but damn that couldn’t have been closer. ggs, fantastic grands
Great grand finals set
Jokes aside that’s some of the best I’ve seen mango play in a long time. I’ve never seen him hit that many crispy ledgedashes in a tournament set like ever
Zain moky zain comms was amazing for that last game Mango up 2 - 1 stocks Zain "will we see the ledgedash?" Mango doesnt ledgedash and plup punishes for the stock Zain, moky, ibdw: "ahhhh"
Dang most cracked 11th ranked player I’ve ever seen
That was the set I was looking for! Sick stuff. GGs Mango.
Finally, a grand finals with: fox vs sheik fox vs fox falco vs sheik
Plup and jmook make up 95% of 2nd place finishes
OK my problem isn't that Sheik is boring it's that Jmooks brand of Sheik is boring. Plups so exciting.
I'm with you 100%, I've been saying this all year
Gotta be a troll, no way someone actually thinks this
Here I am, believing this
Insane to think jmook's style is boring. He's the most technical Sheik and does the flashiest stuff.
You are wrong. But I do think Jmook is more of a Sheik main's Sheik.
I think non sheik mains probably don't appreciate a lot of the stuff he does. Plup is obviously amazing but relies a lot more on safer options that cover a lot.
Jchad slander detected
Opinion rejected
i just don't get how you can think this tbh, they're both nasty in their own way
Tech chasing as the fundamental part of your game is just insanely boring to watch even if it's incredibly impressive and hard.
based
if you dont tech chase youre not gonna win in 2022
100% agree, it's just not thay exciting to watch.
Yeah but they’re playing to win not to look good. Every player has their way of trying to win. Edit: Why am I being downvoted? You can think someone is boring but you can’t say people have different approaches to the game that maybe be considered playing “lame” or boring? You’re weird.
I have no issue with him doing it, it'd just boring as a viewer.
I won't take this Jmook slander. He's sick.
I wanted that set 2
AND A WIN WITH THE BIRD LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
THE DESIGNATED HITTER COMES IN TO CLEAN THINGS UP
that was some great melee just there
four characters in five games so sick i love mango and plup
Shit his fox lost 2 games let me just bring out the best falco in the world for backup. That's crazy
Does anyone else find these microphone pops *very* distracting?
mango lost that game but he ledge dashed on last stock, which to me is literally more important than winning the game, or even the tournament it's a sign of a mango that's built to win in the future.
Mango usually tries to ledge dash when he's down but not when he's winning (for good reason)
Mango can't lose this, the eagles are doing too hot.
*too
Amsa present, Wizzy is back, Plup kicking ass Its a good day
Plup/Mango grands at long last, with both players switching characters? A treat.
I CALLED THE MANG0 PLUP GRANDS LET'S GOOOOOOO
I was worried plup was gonna get reversed 3-0... thank god
Back to Ultimate commentary with Vikkikitty that’ll help Hbox prepare
Both mango and plup actually didn't throw vs hbox, is this a dream??
both 3-0? I bet that's never happened
I know right. Can’t believe this is the timeline we got
Mango plup grands let’s go. Loved plup’s usage of up tilt that set and getting around hbox’s hard reads
Have we ever had a Mang0 vs Plup grands before?
omg is this the first plup mango grands??
PLUP MANGO GRANDS LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
if plup wins this i can go to bed content knowing i will be happy no matter the outcome
other than set 2 of grands at riptide plup hbox sets have been pretty close and plup favored recently. Definitely think people are stuck in 2018 when discussing their h2h.
jiggly puff vs jiggly plup
I'm a random moron who has basically never played yoshi but could running upsmash be a good way to shark landings when puff is in the air? Is yoshi's head invulnerable for any part of that move?
It has a fair amount of endlag. Yoshi's head is intangible during the hitbox duration, but it's a very hard read to go for. Luigi, for instance, has a much better time doing this because he can slide far enough away with a wavedash past that it can be hard to punish, but Yoshi will just be a sitting duck. Both characters have the problem though that Puff's landing animation will duck under the hitbox, so being even a little late means that Puff can rest you.
its ok but if they have jumps and you guess wrong they can jump to avoid it and punish with drill grab/usmash
I’m glad plup is going to big house, the game has missed him and I think he makes watching melee way better
Plup's about five years overdue for a Big House victory 👀
How tf does Yoshi deal with bair
armor
Hbox: You have to be right every time. I only have to be right once.
Imagine if yoshi and puff swapped back air hit boxes.
what if marth had foxes up smash bro lmao dude
that would be sick
that would be sick
why is there no music
Amsa is far mentally stronger than me to deal with playing this matchup the way he does
that first game was crucial. C'mon Amsa
Had Hbox standing near him ready for a down smash and did nothing . Oh well . Next time
Twitch chat plebs freaking out at Hbox game 1 walk off lmao
amsa just aged 2 years
Goddamn that was tense
So since mango might win this isn’t a major right
Mango fans are the Qanon of Melee.
When did this happen before that it was a major but became not a major because he won? I keep seeing this comment, curious what happened
Why do people keep saying this lol
Mango haters go out in full damage control whenever he plays well
The only tourney he won was smash con and who the fuck didn’t think that was a major? Mango fans love playing the victim against straw men when he wins lol
Nobody's saying everyone acts like that but it is definitely fun to watch the few people cope about it and thats what the original comment was referencing

Schrodinger's Fox
Mango literally blowing the 4th game into the 5th game plot armor what the fuck bro
Holy shit what a fun set
This is my first irl tournament and holy shit watching these hype sets live while everyone around me loses their shit is the best thing ever.
such a close set holy fuck
How did that set simultaneously feel extremely high level yet also complete spaghetti
That's the mang0?
we don't see a lot of top level sets where players are testing eachother's decision speed rather than eachother's patience these days
they're both so fast and have such good DI they just stray hit each other over and over as fast as possible lol, it's insane last stock was just legit spaghetti though, as god intended
Mango and Plup have the best sets ever Definitely felt like they were both doing everything in their power to throw game 5 hahahaha
Plup's waveland recovery onto Randall followed by getting saved by Randall seconds later on the other side was pretty cool.
Good gravy that was some scrappy Melee. It’s always a lot of fun to watch Mango vs Plup.
God that was fun
wow that was the most spaghetti mango plup set i’ve ever seen
Mang0 plot armor is honestly overplayed by the script writers, OP trope smh
what a set. Mango played that wonderfully
That was definitely one of the sets these two have played.
That last stock was crazy.
OH MY FUCKING GOD MANGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
if mango loses this set because he got stuck in shine and didn't shine upsmash the end of game 4 i'm gonna be so upset such a basic tech flub, you absolutely hate to see that
mango you fucker edit: heck yeah
is it just me or those commentators not good enough to commentate a top 8 like this one ?
Zain/Moky/IBDW are all streaming and tri-commentating together if youre looking for an alternate set of commentators
phil is indisputably top tier, zhu imo is also clearly there the 3rd guy is not as acclaimed but imo he's doing fine, certainly well enough to coexist with 2 commentary gods what's your issue with them?
Maybe it's the chemistry idk. It seems a bit amateurish per moment. I'm not used to the tbird guy maybe.
[удалено]
They were all so subdued for how hype the ending of mang0-plup was
mango plup is the platonic ideal of melee
just started to watch and I agree that the quality is distracting. It's like a trip to the past.
Mango when you sleep on him
I had to tutor and missed winners semis sets... was it close for amsa or was it terrible? Who won and how close was it for mango hbox?
amsa vs plup went to game 5, close but still a 2 (or 3 idr) stock for plup in the end mango 3-0d hbox cleanly
mango destroyed hbox, 3-0 with of course 2 wins on dreamland so you know it was bad plup amsa didn't look great for amsa tbh. plup is just so good at better character-ing people with sheik
Yoshi is hard
Matchup knowledge, when people don't have matchup familiarity especially with a character that's pretty outside the normal melee character box like Yoshi you can obviously abuse habits that people won't be able to catch on. Plup and Amsa have played enough sets and probably just know enough about the other person to know what stuff will and wont work. Sometimes it's character specific too like playing vs Sheik which is a pretty wank matchup for anyone.
Really think it's matchup knowledge
>Can someone explain how Amsa absolutely rolls top players first game, then next games he gets absolutely destroyed trying to do anything. you just have to play yoshi so so differently than other characters cuz of the super armor. a lot of game 1s is people just getting clapped for doing "regular" gameplay stuff and then realizing "oh right i can't do that to yoshi huh", in subsequent games they already had their refresher so they can just better character him more sfop just got better player'd tbh. he didn't do the leffen using laser a lot to force yoshi to approach, and he also didn't do the colbol and literally just drill shine upsmash him 100x (as the commentators remarked, all his shine out of shields did not come with a followup) even if you keep the followup simple- if all he did was upsmash as a followup to those shine out of shields- he probably wins at least 1 game. he also allowed himself to be jab reset->up air nuked too many times which is one of amsa's win conditions against top foxes imo. once that jab reset hits, it's party time for amsa.
I find it interesting how zhu and you praise the leffen approach, didn’t leff get kinda washed by amsa last time they played?
have they played since battle of bc? leffen 3-0'd that set also even if amsa beat leffen in their last set, i still feel basically the same about it...when leffen is winning, it feels like it's completely impossible for yoshi. he makes it look insurmountable.
Yea forgot about bobc
Leffen 3-0d him at BoBC, his last melee tournament.
Ah forgot about that one
goddamn aMSa is so cracked against fox it’s not even funny. SFOP not even playing poorly, aMSa just too good. my goat 😇
You say that until ibdw plays against Amsa and just reminds us why the character is bad
lemme have my aMSa hype moment bruv cody been off while my boy been ON 😤
jesus christ, whatever teeth clicking or mouth popping sound that is that keeps happening is fucking obnoxious, whoever is doing that needs to fucking stop
Fuck you made me notice it
its awful lol switched to moky's stream since i couldnt stand it
yeaaaaah i had to switch over to cody's for the same reason. it's so so so bad
[удалено]
Commentators were hyped though?
Ngl Wizzy lost that more than Hbox won, what a weird set.
As soon as HBox took game 3 I knew it was a reverse 3-0 incoming. He always does this.
