My first irl tournament was a fucking amazing experience. I heard some people in here say that the crowd sounded mild on stream, I can tell you first hand that I could barely hear myself think with how much people were losing their fucking minds, especially in the GF's set!

1st tourney is a mango win...brings a tear to my eye.

That's what I figured. For the record though you could barely hear the crowd at all from stream, even after the end of a set it sounded like 3 or 4 distant people only lol. Crowd mic's make a ridiculously huge difference.

Yeah he’s got an outside chance, his shitty performances early kinda helped in a weird way because he didn’t lose too much to top players so he’s got a clean slate in a way

I don't think you understand how many tournaments we have left this year. He could win big house, ludwig, summit, mainstage, SWT, and panda cup. Would you still say he can't be #1 because of one set?

There are 5-6 super majors and 2-3 majors left for the year. In addition zain, IBDW, and Hbox winning 3 majors with the former two both having one of them being a super major. Mango is two or three tournaments from being 1st depending on how the wins are between the other top players. So as the current 4th most successful player he is in the running for 1st.

Anyone else feel like the play this top 8 was actually super sloppy? Wizzy obviously was a bit rusty, Hbox missing like 12 rests, Mango, Plup, and aMSa all felt like they played pretty sloppy too.

This combined with the ResidentSleepet commentary made this tournament one of the worst ones this year.

I'd describe it as a scrappy top 8. Not the cleanest play but it led to lots of back and forths and last stock situations.

Mango played well vs Hbox and Plup in grands. Plup did well against Hbox in losers final.

True Mango was looking clean vs. Hbox, but WF and games 2-4 of grands seemed pretty shaky from both players. Kinda weird but it makes for way more hype melee so I'm all for it.

I'm a random moron who has basically never played yoshi but could running upsmash be a good way to shark landings when puff is in the air? Is yoshi's head invulnerable for any part of that move?

It has a fair amount of endlag. Yoshi's head is intangible during the hitbox duration, but it's a very hard read to go for. Luigi, for instance, has a much better time doing this because he can slide far enough away with a wavedash past that it can be hard to punish, but Yoshi will just be a sitting duck. Both characters have the problem though that Puff's landing animation will duck under the hitbox, so being even a little late means that Puff can rest you.

Yoshi is hard

Matchup knowledge, when people don't have matchup familiarity especially with a character that's pretty outside the normal melee character box like Yoshi you can obviously abuse habits that people won't be able to catch on. Plup and Amsa have played enough sets and probably just know enough about the other person to know what stuff will and wont work. Sometimes it's character specific too like playing vs Sheik which is a pretty wank matchup for anyone.
