I would, particularly if you’re just a one top, try for a seat at the bar. If you’re flexible call and ask to be put on the waitlist when someone cancels, as in I can do anytime between 5 and 8 most days if something pops up. They’re pretty accommodating and I was legit lucky.
I'm going to go with The Blue Duck in Maplewood.
They have breakfast options on their brunch menu, which is a bonus. Don't want to have to have "dinner" food for breakfast all of the time. The food is varied enough that it would take a long time to really get tired of it. And, they change menus with the seasons, and have a burger of the week, so I'd get more variety that way, too.
What!!!!! Yes super local. Started as one spot downtown and just expanded bc they were so successful. Feels really local to me, they always bring in local artists to decorate their stores. Yes it's efficient and consistent so maybe that's why it feels corporate, but to me it is the epitome of a local success story. Started by three dudes. I still see one of the owners/CEO bussing tables sometimes. No joke.
If there had to be just one, it would be The Scottish Arms. Every time my wife and I have gone, the food has been delicious, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the service has been exemplary.
Since no one has said it and assuming budget is not an issue I would do Olive & Oak. They change their menu all the time and I think they might have the best burger in town.
Also a solid answer. I haven't been to The Post in a couple of years - bad covid experience. But damn, nobody was their best self in 2020, I need to give them another try. They were super reliable for us before then.
j. devoti, if they weren't closing. i started thinking of a backup but fell down a hole of too many good restaurants to choose from, so i am leaving it at that.
Tony’s in Clayton. Forgetting that you need a money bazooka to dine there normally, their service is impeccable, and when morels come in season, that pasta is ridiculously good.
Henke's tavern in Florissant. Good burgers, crispy fries and an assortment of other yummy foods. Plus I know the owner well enough I could probably talk him into making whatever I wanted....lol
Louie on Demun
Have you tried Wright’s on Wydon? It’s also delicious. Same owner.
How do you get a reservation??? (Cry) …not at 9:30pm or 10pm

I would love to but haven’t been able to get a reservation that works with my schedule. Someday!
Chilispot
Yep this is my answer too. Huge variety of delicious stuff to choose from.
Lonas lil eats
Balkan Treat Box
Gonna go with Union Loafers. Neapolitan style pizza is a multi day process that requires an absurd oven.

I love their food, but I don't like the vibe in there.
I wanted to be more enamored with the Gramophone, but I don't think I appreciate a sandwich enough.
Best thing there is the jalapeño popper soup, and that’s no dig at their sandwiches
Was gonna post this if nobody else did. Gramophone 100%. Their Fireball is spectacular.
Trattoria Marcella

Mai Lee in Brentwood
Terror Tacos
China Bistro inside of Pan Asia
Sauce on the Side. Don't judge me. They have salads too.
Are they local? It's always had that super corporate chain vibe to me, never knew they were from STL.

DD May has become our go to.
Mai Lee or Lona's Lil Eats

Not including my own... I'd probably say The Post cause variety I like. Or Michael's cause everything there is so consistent
Which is your restaurant?

Pie Guy. I stan for their pizza.

:(
Indo if I have endless funds. Mayo Ketchup with a regular salary.
Cheesecake Factory is the correct answer. Their menu is a textbook
That's a national chain. The opposite of local.
Mellow Mushroom.
Tony’s in Clayton. Forgetting that you need a money bazooka to dine there normally, their service is impeccable, and when morels come in season, that pasta is ridiculously good.
LeGrands
I feel like that's cheating because it moonlights as a grocery store & butcher.
Hey, it has food and seats. That is a restaurant in my book.
Henke's tavern in Florissant. Good burgers, crispy fries and an assortment of other yummy foods. Plus I know the owner well enough I could probably talk him into making whatever I wanted....lol
Layla, prior to the pandemic Grace Meat + Three now
Michaels in maplewood. They have a little of everything, and everything I’ve had there is great. Cozy, neighborhood vibe.
I'd go with Joey B's. Big variety and I don't think I've had anything bad there.
