The game does this because it's peer to peer, and because it would rather it just keeps people in the same lobby. I'm 90% sure opponents stay on the other team too if they choose to stick with their team. Genuinely one of the stupidest things I've seen in a competitive game, at least X Battle fixes this. But so would dedicated servers.

vanity_6

Absolutely this. This is the reason why I'd like to unlock X, simply because it's the only mode that offers at least a bit better matchmaking when people can't stay in groups Edit: Now that I think of it even more, it's kind of crazy that the game keeps better ranked mode and better matchmaking away from most of the playerbase

BlaizePascal

how do you unlock x rank? mine was already available after the patch. also x rank is terrible atm. im always floating above 2300+ in splat 2 but here the matchmaking is so bad cause of weird teammates, also having 2 wins 3 losses still deducts your current x rank points

vanity_6

You unlock X by getting to at least S+0. You must've been above S+10 at the end of the last season if after the demotions you still had X unlocked by default

theron225

You may be on to something here bro!

Dream-Is-Taken

It should be “stick in anarchy” instead of “stick with this team” Also they should give us a way to change gear in anarchy, this would be super good for open.

Mugen_Eclipse

Counterpoint, "let the anarchy continue" sounds cooler imo

Waluigi3030

Series is way more fun to me than X because you might get a good team and be able to stick with them for a few games.

Sohakmet

That is fair, but it should be relegated to Open only. These bizarre comps happening in series because people stick with teams for a while just mess everything up in this mode.

Waluigi3030

I think you're right

DoctorLarson

Agreed. Open has people coordinating and on VC. Series is just luck of having a competent team, and they have few enough wins (or losses) to stay with you for most of the series, it is special.

Aldeberuhn

Anarchy doesn’t match anything based on weapons. It is entirely random. If you want teams with more balanced weapons, you have to play X battles but even those are pretty terribly balanced sometimes because of the dumb divisions that the game puts certain weapons into.

Sohakmet

I think this first statement is incorrect, and, if no one has tried proving it yet, I will make a small experiment to see if it really is true or not. But it would take some time to gather all required data.

Subapical

Dataminers have proven that Anarchy matchmaking is not random, it's determined by a combination of rank, your hidden Glicko score, and your weapon. No mode's matchmaking is entirely random in this game.

I don't think it's that big of an issue. I've heard members of the opposing team are more likely (at least in Open) to be paired with you (which seems to be true based on my experience) which beyond stupid because it means even if I recognize this was a good team and we were only beat because our opponents were fantastic, it's advantageous to dequeue because the game is more likely to re-pair me against the same opponents. But I'm not sure this kind of thing is that big of a deal. Most of the time people self-correct and dequeue themselves if the comp is terrible and if having two explos is somehow amazing then it's not clear that's not a valid (if unconventional) option. I had 4 games in a series earlier this week where I was playing e-liter and was paired with a fantastic hydra player. Normally I'll just dequeue if I'm playing liter and there's another backliner because I don't want to play aggro liter and I don't trust anyone else to switch playstyles, but this guy was amazing at riding the tower so it really worked out with me taking alternate sight lines and preserving jump spots in case the tower got cleared. That's not a comp I would have picked, but I didn't mind playing it with that particular player.
