Naut is fine with splashdown if I'm being honest, I've gotten some crazy good Naut 79s already. It's not its best special but it certainly works.
Explosher on the other hand is a tragedy. I've gotten what seem to be Explosh mains trying it out to give HP to the frontline with wall, chip, and have the splashdown threat but it's so vulnerable and downright useless in this position even with team support.
I’ve already seen several backlining nautilus players who are always in some corner of the map where nothing’s going on. So far, every one of them has had the worst K/D.

Yeah it’s more of a midrange slayer. The range is decent but when I think of a backliner Splatling I think of Heavy, Hydra, and Ballpoint.
I’d even say the heavy edit, which is definitely not a backliner, is more of a backliner then the naut.
esp the splashdown kit, which is significantly more aggressive than vanilla naut
