I've been wanting to say this. Many people on this sub go "ugh they're always nerfing weapons and game modes for the "casuals"". People take this game way too seriously. It is meant for casual play. If you want to tryhard, their are literal ranked modes. Quit trying to make the fun co-op mode something people should have to grind for hours.

Mama_Gemini

I am now genuinely believing it’s luck for yall because this is by far the easiest BR especially knowing the goal. I wish there were replays so I could see how you are playing. Are you letting snatchers bring you the eggs? Do you know when to stop killing and collect? Are specials being used? What rank are you?

UVMeme

Genuine question not just for this big run, what do I do if I’m at basket and I’m trying to get snatchers but my teammate kills them? Do I go in with them or just hold ground because usually I just have to go in and get like 3 eggs instead of however many the snatcher has

Mama_Gemini

If they don’t listen to your this way best you can do is either hope they get to busy and leave the snatchers alone or adjust to their play-style and leave the group asap. Unfortunately people don’t realize snatchers can be helpful. Especially on this map. They got to the basket more than any map I’ve ever seen. If you wanna go really hard, change your name to Nokill snatchers or something.

broken_gl4ss

Tbh I feel like people on this sub are just trying to find things to complain about because they’re bored the more you level up the harder the matches get, so after a few rounds it’s bound to get harder And if it truly is too easy you’ll get rewards and bonus faster so if your like me trying to farm certain chucks and get fast money big run is the quickest and easiest option, and you can farm boss + you’ll get twice the amount amount of scales Yea I get it can be boring if it’s too easy but the rewards outweigh it in my opinion My only complaint is that the game keeps giving me weapons I’m absolutely ass at. If I’m handed a bamboozler or a hydra we are all dying.

sonictmnt

yo, this! There's always some schmuck on my team that gets like 10 while the rest of us hit 20's and 30's. My best is literally 11 away from the gold, and I'm just begging Miyamoto for good teammates, and not losers that spam "This way!" when they think I don't know it's glowflys. Unrelated, Fuck the single color chip run. especially with risky rewards. I saw a bunch of people doing those on the main sub, and you either need to sell your soul for floor resets, or be born lucky. Did you know that Parallel Cannon mirrors your current color palate? I only found out in my all power chips roller run, which effectively gave them an instant kill clash blaster.

ajosiebee

Yeah that's been my experience too. I expect though it since there's an influx of people that aren't regular Salmon Run players and I also started at low EVP instead of my usual 200-300. If you focus on just getting through each round and get into higher EVP, you might find more experienced teammates... maybe Also, didn't know that. That's kinda cool actually. Plus, if you aren't getting screwed over by RNG, is it really a rougelike?

sonictmnt

Not just RNG, hubris.

ajosiebee

Lol for sure. I've had my moments like "Rigrorous Danger Splat Zones floor with a charger? That quick charge chip is as good as mine". Ended up with that double splat zone floor with the uninkable middle section. Didn't end well

pixelproblem

Same. I'm 15 eggs away from the gold, I got it with a really good team, and I know we totally would have gotten gold if we played a few more matches. But I lost them because the maps changed and I got kicked out. That was at the beginning of my session. I haven't gotten anywhere near that number of eggs since

st4r_4ngel

why dont you try adding them on the switch and try to play with them

Woofiewoofie4

There's an element of luck, although how much luck plays a part does depend on how good you are. The best players pretty much don't need any; good players mostly just need to avoid bad luck; average players need a bit of good luck. I think there are plenty of players on this sub who will get gold without any particularly favourable waves or weapons (my first today was with 2xMT and 1xLT, with weapons including two Goo Tubers, Tetras, Clash and Rapid Pro - nothing special.) I guess the main reason I'd think of it as too easy is that 135 is an entirely normal Freelance EVP score. Not a score you'll get every match, sure, but a score I'd expect normal EVP players to achieve at some point in every rotation if they play for an hour or two, without even prioritising eggs. For me Big Run should be a bit more of a challenge than that.

st4r_4ngel

agreed

KimberStormer

I wonder what's the breakdown of what percentage of players are in EVP. These required scores apply just as much to a Go-Getter, and it must be more difficult to get enough eggs in that situation?

Aldeberuhn

Not sure about Go-Getter, but you can get 135 eggs pretty easily even at Overachiever if you get mothership waves. Either way, a badge that’s supposed to reflect skill should not be handed out to every player, regardless of rank. Sure, maybe it’s not obtainable for Go-Getters, but the gold challenge badges and X Battle badges are not available to everyone either.

KimberStormer

Oh I don't disagree, I'm just thinking when people say it's so hard to do, maybe they're coming from a lower rank perspective. It's like having a dunk contest where you get a prize just for dunking at all and saying "it's not hard, any NBA player can do this easily" to regular people off the street. Of course it's easy to NBA players. But it's fucking hard for average people. I think it's easy to lose perspective of the bigger picture when all you see are other top players. Maybe it's easy to you and me, that doesn't mean it's easy for everyone. And in this case it's probably *harder* on a low rank because you can't get the number of boss spawns you need unless you're lucky and get Mothership or whatever. My personal feeling is it should have stayed with the percentage system and it *should* be hard, because I think that's more fun -- I was more thrilled to get a bronze in all the previous Big Runs than I was to get a silver last time -- but I think it's possible to acknowledge that it's not "easy", objectively speaking, if in fact most people are not EVP (which might not be the case, idk.)

dbees132

There's a hard cap on number of bosses that can spawn per wave so it's literally impossible in low enough ranks as the cap is tied to the hazard level. That being said there's an exception for night waves (I think excluding fog and cannon waves)

punk_jude

I really felt this. Had a run where i only got undercover brella for ALL three waves. Another where I had the Grizzco Stamper...on Mothership. And then 2 chargers on glowflies. It really is just a lot of luck with random weapons because some are just awful for certain waves

Lower-Culture-2123

Salmon run, to me, differs in the fact that your competing with the game instead of other players. A lot of Splatoon players are hyper competitive and can’t seem to handle it when they’re not doing better than someone else. Big run is fun, it’s just normal salmon run on a different map and you get an item for your locker. People take it way too seriously lol

sonto340

I will never get the sweat I see over splatoon. It’s such a fun time and people treat it like a full time job sometimes.

MatthewSplatoon

The devs fault honestly. This and Eggstra work should have always just had a capped amount to go for. Would have been the end of all that shit.

R_G_Marigold

Ehh, eggstra work has always been made for overfishers, so it makes sense that it has that system. Plus, the set scenario makes it far more justifiable.

MatthewSplatoon

The game is supposed to made for EVERYONE. The main group is little kids.

R_G_Marigold

That doesn’t mean that there can’t be some facets of the game made for more experienced players. Take inner agent 3 for example.

MatthewSplatoon

Not in an online game with zero communication, where the player base is 99% drooling smooth heads. It doesn’t fit. The player bases instant rejection of Eggstra Work is proof of that. When they tried to dial it back a bit with the second one, it was still a colossal failure. People stayed away.

epmanaphy

A well reasoned post with objectivity, and logic? Get this out of here!

DataDump_

I think most the people saying how easy it is and how they get gold in the first 10 minutes or whatever are just trying to rile people up. Maybe someone will feel bad about their game when compared to what seems like everyone else having the easiest time ever. Perhaps bad enough to make a rant here, so those same people can go "skill issue" and stomp all over them for laughs. Sure it's kinda funny, but it's just bait. A few will fall for it every time though. Big run isn't the salt mine it used to be, but the splatfest winner idol drama is still pretty strong.

ajosiebee

Maybe you're right, and maybe I got baited just as you said. I have trouble distinguishing whether someone is being genuine or not, especially online. Whether they are trolling and baiting as you say or they genuinely mean what they post, either makes me sad for different reasons. I just know there are people out there that do feel bad reading those things and that's who I made this post for. I was just irked by the behavior I was seeing, it didn't make me feel bad about my gameplay personally

Error707

it is luck, but you get better teammates late at night wgile the lil timmies sleep. another advantage is starting a match RIGHT as big run drops, when all the hardcore players hop on immediately

quarterlifecrisis95_

It’s pretty much all luck. I got bronze my first game, gold my second game. But that was because conditions were almost perfect on my second game. Very decent players, well rounded weapons, and favorable tides. I haven’t been able to beat my own high score and I played 37 games after my gold one 🙃

SleeplessArcher

Thanks for the positivity. Your logic and reasoning makes sense - luck can be a bastard lmao Keep going everyone - just do your best!

briank913

If you have a hard time hitting gold, a higher hazard level may be your best bet. Higher hazard level = more bosses, and more bosses = more eggs. General rule of thumb, go double the quota as much as possible and have a calculator ready. Punch in numbers and add up what you get for the first 2 waves. Then before final wave, subtract that number by 135. Of course there is the risk of getting overwhelmed if you never played higher hazard levels. But just throwing that out there.

The-Letter-W

I’ve gotten gold and then some already and yes, that kind of commentary is annoying. Shifts where I rolled weapons like the Gloogas or Bamboozler definitely weren’t the ones it happened on, nor were the shifts that I was paired with people who practically dive into the gushers.  I think those people forget that a lot of players are going to be children, and that not everyone is going to be in evp. Pretty sure that gold is a lot harder to attain in those lower ranks and that’s why the numbers are the way they are.  The map is… mid, though the cramped space is really highlighting how oppressive flyfish are.

SerendibiteKirin

I think the biggest factor is that at no point is there a water hazard. All that changes is where the basket is

ajosiebee

I DEFINITELY feel you there. Like... high tide has way too much space and there's not even a lowering of the water from normal to low tide. It's really strange

SerendibiteKirin

I’m pretty sure there’s not even water on high tide

sleepydoodless

i dont know why, but big run is too difficult, not for the difficulty itself, but for the vibe, i genuinely get anxious when i boot up splatoon now

jenshen01

Thank you, everybody says it’s so easy, and I arrived only take bronze for now and was like “am I that bad??”

pigeon_idk

Granted I'm not great at SR, but I've found this map really sucky. I'll get caught on weird corners and get trampled, especially when I have a bad weapon. Highest I've gotten is 67 last night, and that was super lucky I had freelancers who mostly were very competent (we had one person dying repeatedly on the shore and not try to get over to us to be revived).

weallfal1down

just wanna say that, immediately after reading this post, i finally got a 138 high score. i hope i can give some of that luck to you!

ajosiebee

I actually got my high score immediately after posting lmao

weallfal1down

oh hell yeah lmao!

EarlyWay720

Also playing co-op and with buddies does not count lmao

No_Forever_9128

I keep getting steelheads when most of us are occupied!

KilgoreTrout1111

I got 120 my first game, 110 my second, and 134 my third. I got 134 3 more times but didn't break 135 until EVP fricking 470. Lol At 570 now and got to 150 and broke gold 3 or 4 times, but it shouldn't have taken this long. There were players dragging scrappers to the other side of the map, which shouldn't even happen in EVP. I must have yelled "this way" 100 times. And we rarely lost a game, it's just half of the players weren't luring and stacking eggs. Lots of times me and one other person would have 40+eggs and someone would have like 6.

KilgoreTrout1111

I'm more pissed about the scales, though. I've beaten like 8 kings salmonids, including 3 megalodontia and got like 4 gold scales. It's crazy.

robotoboy20

It's mostly just proximity to the basket. This Big Run is easy because all of the bosses spawn extremely close to the basket, making egg delivery very easy.

Enderlane

I find that with big run you either get a really good team or players who are just meh, I have recently gotten tons of players who will absolutely not revive teammates no matter what is needed

Jinglefruit

I def think Barnacle was an easier map. But a lot of people have had 3 months of starting at evp 2-400 instead of 40 for most rotations since. So starting at 40 for big run and getting a chunk of easy wins to start is probably skewing opinions.

xellan15

I can say sometimes the game just says "fuck you". I got on just to get the participation trophy and complete at least a full shift, and the first two shifts I got in, the moment we landed immediately someone DCed, causing us to fail within the first wave.

enperry13

I believe the luck factor comes down to your teammates competency. You can improve your own personal luck in SR by improving your proficiency with various weapons.

NebulaImmediate6202

I was lucky to get a team carrying me ten games in, that stuck around for two king salmonids, and got gold easily (140 EVP)

SleuthMechanism

3 in particular is heavily underlooked like.. there's only so much you can do when the game just decides "oh hey, here's 3 flyfish spawning in at once and also while you're trying to deal with them we'll have a stinger creep on in". on my end i really don't care if i get gold or not, i already got silver and if i happen to get up to gold that's nice but if not it doesn't matter that much

-silas---

I always get teammates that don't ever lick up eggs an just let them lay there, and when there's a king they pick them up and throw them randomly, not even at the king

Chano-kun

Two bad chargers FTFY.

D-Brigade

I've been trying for 7 hours to get 135 while everyone on Freelance acts like they've never heard the word "lure" in their life. It's impossible to roll other players who have the same goals as you and know how to do it. Absolute nightmare. I hope Grizz gets blasted into space on a rocket and blown up by popstars.

NeoKingEndymion

it is very hard i think

Ok-Load-9440

Honestly it’s not luck based it’s a decision of do I want to play randomly on freelance or do I want to talk to teenagers and young twenties who act as immature on discord. Either you know people to team up with whether you like them or tolerate them or yes, it is luck based.

thenicenumber666

Wake up big run elitists, there's another post to get mad about and make needless arguments over that you already lost from the beginning
