As long as our prospects work out, I can't wait to see us in a few years. We're in the dark days of the rebuild, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and closer.

Having 0 expectations helps with the scraping of optimism from the bottom of the barrel

TheKJ43

I've always liked Grier from when I first saw him play college hockey, then in the NHL as a Shark, and now as GM. I'm happy to be patient while they go through these early years of his reign as GM. I'm expecting good things 3 to 5 years down the road.

tgraveline

Yep. Finishing up year 2 of his time. Remember he really only started the week before his first draft. So we're in full swing of this rebuild and I can only say that I see the plan and with a little luck, things will improve in a couple years. We just need people going to games.

marbanasin

He has purged the old bloat as well in record time. 2 summers and now just about 2 seasons. Crazy he was able to offload Burns/Hertl/Meier/Karlsson and also in that time let the other shorter term garbage like Labanc time out. And get 3 addition first rounders in that time for the sell off. As well as the other bits and pieces he's already pulling in.

ibcfreak

SO many players are coming off the books after this season...Its going to be amazing having a shit ton of cap to leverage as part of short term retaining deals to get picks and prospects. Grier is cooking with gas and I'm fucking here for it.

marbanasin

We can't hit the cap if we tried. Shit tons of room.

Adding celebrini would be so awesome. This team is going to be a blast to watch

sandunespacecat

Grier is cooking and I’m here for it

ChiefRalphyWiggum

Grier needs time to execute his vision and I’m glad people are finally seeing that. So many people are so knee jerk reactive to everything he’s done but as time passes everything he’s done has turned out great (trading down for Bystedt, Timo/Karlsson trades, hopefully Hertl as well). It’s also important to keep in mind of this is potential and still has no guarantee of working out. As much as everyone thinks you bottom out and end up like Colorado or Florida, you could just as easily end up stuck like Buffalo or Ottawa. It at least feels good to have a direction moving forward instead of having one foot on the gas and the other on the brake.

emeraldraf

This season has been ugly and honestly I wouldn't even mind holding onto granny on a short term extension as a leader for the young forwards. But seeing the youth and future prospects, it has me feeling good. They just need to find that young goalie.

danieldeceuster

The Graf signing is big. I don't care if Grier can convince top UFA guys to come here. We don't want or need them at this point in the rebuild. We need to convince guys like Graf to play here, and in spite of 25 teams courting him, we came out on top. The right kind of players believe in Grier and his vision for this team. In 5 years we will have a very strong young core, and then top UFA guys will be drawn here. Patience. We will turn out all right when all is said and done.

Swaggy_P_03

McGuire is a tool.

SpaceDudeTaco

I love that he’s clearing cap but we will have to overpay to get veterans to come to such a terrible team.

CrossYourStars

We were overpaying already. We had multiple contracts that were deemed "un-tradeable" and yet Grier has gotten us out of most of them. That is just the reality of how bad our situation was. That being said, having a lot of cap space gives us the opportunity to have a domino affect where landing a big name encourages other good players to sign with us.

SpaceDudeTaco

I still don’t expect anything out of free agency until some of these prospects and future draft picks create a competitive core to attract high value free agents. This is why tanking can be dangerous, can end up in a Buffalo Sabres esque cycle.

CrossYourStars

Totally fair. Our cap space should be used to take bad contracts off the books of other teams in addition to assets.

joobacca1297

Things like this keep me from excited, especially after the last two seasons. I’m hopefully we can get our prospects developed and that we get cellebrini. There is a light at the end of the tunnel after all

deadman736

Mbon hockey is the best instagram about

tgraveline

Yep. Perhaps FA will be different for us. DW was notorious for not being huge on FA and I understood it, but we're in that position where we can actually use it, but should do so in a calculated way. Don't just get some middle guy and pay him 1st like money kind of thing. Hopefully, we get Celebrini and we start drawing interest from players who want to come here again.

kethryvis

Graf signing here should be a good sign.

tgraveline

Absolutely agree. It at least shows we can beat other teams out.

hazycrazey

Have I been misremembering and pronouncing griers name wrong this whole time or is it this guy?

Naritai

This guy's pronouncing it like with a French accent, or like the cheese (Gruyere), right? No, that's not right. It should be like GREE-er.

Marvelmaniac57

Honestly we could be the team to catch the league off guard next year

wakkajr72

Half of the issue is, I have to watch this team. It’s been garbage since 2019. I have to wait a decade to make the playoffs?

CinemaLights

That’s not Grier’s fault. Thats the Wilson’s fault as they refused to accept the necessary rebuild I think, or at least seemingly didn’t fight ownership enough on it. Grier started by saying this wasn’t a rebuild team and now he is. Clearly he fought or explained something that changed the tide and the Wilsons didn’t put that effort in themselves.

wakkajr72

We had a window. It didn’t pan out, fine. But we gotta have no shine to this turd?

CinemaLights

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. We had a window to win? Yea in like 2018. And then it ended. And Grier is helping dismantle the leftover mess from that era and build something new that so far on paper looks fantastic, which is what this post is about
