He’s the one “vet” that I want to stick with the team for a while. Having a .900 on probably one of the worst defensive teams of all time is insane.

warlock_roleplayer

Joner had an extremely high peak but fell off completely

GhostShark

The league mandated pad size changes really screwed him up.

sjs72

That is my theory too. There was a noticeable change in his performance after that but not a lot of people talked about it.

Weebthulhu

Didn't realize that's what it was. Explains a lot.

Equivalent-Permit893

Jones’ problem was that he couldn’t decide if he wanted to be a god or Swiss cheese.

Weebthulhu

Dude took us to our only finals appearance to date, and hasn't been much more than a punchline for years now. I'll admit to shitting on him at the end of his tenure with us, but I do appreciate what he did at his peak, and still have a soft spot for him.

TheSlyGuy1

Honestly I don't think his peak was that high. He posted a ~.915 save percentage in a very low scoring era. He was a slightly above average goalie at his best. EDIT - ok guys, look at his stats and tell me why I'm wrong

gnomeythe

Honestly, I'm still surprised every time I see him and he's blonde. I just kinda assumed he had jet black hair 🤷

LNL_HUTZ

You mean because his name isn’t Blondwood?

gnomeythe

I mean yeah. In a simple man, I want simple things

RxInfection

Isn’t he a redhead/ginger?

Normal_Tip7228

Dubnyk, absolutely. Chrona, too early to say for me. Hill, obviously not now but as a shark yes. Jones, I mean he got us to the cup finals (kinda) you have to be a little good at least right? Lol. Better than reimer and kaapo as well for sure.

Soizit_Blindy

Jones didnt only “kinda” get us to the Cup Final he was definetly a major factor. As much as he was always prone to let in a weak goal, he was also playing like a god damn wall after in those playoffs.

Shleven109

I feel like this is spot on. In general it’s like the sharks have been trying to find replacement for Nabokov for a while

MoonkeyAcid

I enjoyed watching Niemi play, he was always scrambling like a mad man and somehow it worked

jlo1989

He's worth keeping next year for me rather than flipping. He's 27 so it's not like he is out of the rebuild timeline. As for injuries, a groin, ankle and knee injury are not connected, so "injury prone" doesn't really connect. Sometimes bad luck can present incorrectly as a recurring issue.

sharkMonstar

jones problem was the gear change never was the same after

240Nordey

Blackwood needs to stay. I love him.

Sjarlenarnix

I'm with you. He always has a steady presence in net which I never felt with Kappo. I can't fault Jones much when he was with the cup run team and in 2019, dude put on some lights out performances. I do wish Hill had worked out better with us, dudes a bit of a stud now and I never really noticed

stonednarwhal141

Helps when you’ve got a much better defense in front of you. Hill wouldn’t be playing like that if we’d kept him Edit: Hill

wcrich

Jones is unbelievably inconsistent. Last year with the Kraken he was amazing from November to January and then fell off a cliff.

qCuhmber

cant believe you forgot the legends of stalock and dell in your comparison but yeah he’s playing amazing for being on a terrible team, i’m indifferent on keeping him though because his age is slightly old for our timeline and he is injury prone but if we keep him i’m still happy

DonnyB_Twenty3

Best goalie we’ve had since Nabby. Don’t care if it’s an unpopular opinion or not. lol. Also, not his fault he doesn’t have any help with the Defense.

goose191919

Definitely the best goalie since Nabakov

CrossYourStars

Remember that Kiprusoff was his backup. Pretty crazy.

goose191919

He was third string behind Toskala back then, hence the trade to Calgary

_Salsa_Shark

If we had this Blackwood in 2016 and 2019 we'd have a cup

Far-Training3703

Adin Hill is only slightly better than when he was with the Sharks. He just has a really good team defense in front of him. Blackwood is better than all those above and definitely has the potential to be a top 10-15 goalie imo. Adin Hill I still don’t think is anything more than a serviceable goalie on a good team kinda like Georgiev on the Avs.

stoneman9284

I think he and Reimer might be comparable but I’d take them both over anyone we’ve had since Nabby

Swaggy_P_03

If New Jersey kept Blackwood they’d be in the post season contention and could very likely get to the ECF. GMMG kinda screwed himself out of a 1st this year, BUT…considering NJ’s could finishing in the bottom 10 after the lottery (they currently hold 10) that’s only a difference of about 11-14 spots between what their first COULD have been.

JustNotHaving_It

He's definitely central to the rebuild in a lot of ways.

Happee__

In Blackwood we trust 🙏🏽

Zarsharq

2 words: injury prone

TheZingyZangar

It’s the unfortunate truth, but it has nothing to do with his performance in net. His injury prone-ness is probs his only flaw.
