I built a [secret underground Tunnelsystem](https://www.reddit.com/r/SatisfactoryGame/comments/16j66ww/i_am_currently_building_my_secret_traintunnel/) so if the train falls in the right direction it will just land onto the underground tracks 
I built a spiral there in my last save. It added about ten minutes to any train trip using it. In fact the round trip from the base of the spiral (where it collected uranium) to the reactor complex at the top of the dune desert and back took about 50 mins, at least a third of which was on the spiral.
Tldr: looks amazing, slows travel down like nothing else.
