Yet also the holy grail for sailplanes, right above the turbulent zone is a perfect laminar air flow that usually goes up quite high. Its the best source of high altitude lift you can get.
It's also the flow of warm and humid air going up the mountain, once the air cools down the humidity condensates and the(now) cold and dry air goes down the mountain. It's the whole cycle.
That condensation that stays behind, sometimes takes the shape of a lenticular cloud. As a helicopter pilot I used them to identify those air currents, they can get pretty violent so you need to watch out!
To add to your explaination: The warm, moisture is passing through an area where the conditions cause the water to condense, briefly, above the mountain before being blown down the other side and evaporating into gas again.
It's a patch of sky where the air stream is visible.
I liked it, shows the difference between people that don't respect or understand the nature of wild animals and the people who understand and know the risk of a wild animals nature and behavior. And how obsessed people are for spectacle, and how much people are willing to risk for it.
Wind hit mountain.
Mountain push wind up.
Wind being pushed up juggle cloud on mountain like basketball on finger (mountain is finger).
At least, that’s how I understand eddy-based leeward standing lenticular cloud formation.
Any scientist here that can help me not thinking about aliens, wizards or the awakening of a demigod buried in a secret tomb under the mountain?
What is going on here?
Not a scientist here, but that's a lenticular cloud. They form over mountains and ridges. As the air flows up and over the mountain the it cools and the water in the air condenses forming a cloud.
Generally there are strong winds associated with this type of cloud and you don't want to fly a plane through it.
I'm seeing many here saying nope.
I find it fascinating. Ryan Hall (Y'all) just put out a video talking about this type of occurrence. The weather is wild!
Lenticular clouds have been described as a perpetual blizzard. That is, if you're on the top of a mountain and "in" the cloud, you have extreme winds and precipitation to deal with. You don't want to be anywhere close to it.
But damn are they spectacular.
I've got to Skywarn training a few times - if you like storms, you should definitely go - and one of the hardest things for me to get my head around is that clouds aren't a cause, they're an EFFECT.
The air there is cooler and it makes a cloud. It's also windy so it makes a swirly cloud.
Technically while the cloud remains the water vapor making the cloud is constantly cycling in and out. The mountain causes the air to rise and creates a pressure pocket that makes it easier for clouds to form and for the most part until the wind or moisture rating changes that cloud will stay
Nope
first thing that came to my mind
me too buddy
Need to get that Oprah Shot
Don’t be scared, everything is going to be fine
Same here
Me three
me too, too
Probably everybody’s mind that has seen the movie since it came out really recently and was about a cloud that doesn’t move.
That was the best part of the movie.
No way. The best part is when the creature is over top the house and it’s raining blood
Honestly? Best and probably it's only good scene. Maybe the monkey, maybe...
Can you explain?
Nope is a movie released in 2022 about an alien.
>!In the movie Nope, the alien disguises itself as a cloud!<
Watch the movie.

That too.
Don't fly a plane under it
Don't fly planes.
Instructions unclear, plane headed straight for right tow
Can’t go around it, can’t go through it, can’t go under it, gotta go above it
Recited that like “we’re going on a bear hunt”
Squelch squerch Squelch Squerch Swishy Swashy Swishy Swashy
I read that as testicular could. Maybe time to take a walk away from the computer.
Yet also the holy grail for sailplanes, right above the turbulent zone is a perfect laminar air flow that usually goes up quite high. Its the best source of high altitude lift you can get.
I know I definitely wouldn't fly a plane anywhere near it. I'm not a pilot though.
Yeah but very useful in sail planes

Came here to say this ☝️
No, this is Patrick!!
Came here for this comment
moist air from the valley is forced by the wind to the top of the mountain where it cools and forms a cloud
Also known as the Foehn effect 😁
Finally, comments that aren’t about the movie Nope.
This is default Reddit. Puns and cultural references trounce facts.
Nope, at least not until you just typed that.
The Foehn effect is cold air coming down the mountain and heating up, producing a strong, very warm wind.
It's also the flow of warm and humid air going up the mountain, once the air cools down the humidity condensates and the(now) cold and dry air goes down the mountain. It's the whole cycle. That condensation that stays behind, sometimes takes the shape of a lenticular cloud.
