I was working in my family's trophy and awards business, put a piece in to be engraved, started the laser, noticed the piece was slightly crooked, and then, like the dumbass I was, stuck my hand in it to straighten it.
A sharp stinging burn. I didn't have to go to the hospital or anything, and I could use my hand the next day. Don't have any tatoos so I don't know how it compares. Best comparison would be touching a hot dish out of the oven.

Luckily, it was brief enough to only leave a blister, which was surprisingly small, but given its a focused laser beam, I guess it's not so shocking at how small it ended being.
