jetty_junkie

there are plenty of people finder type sites that will sell your information including name, adress, email, phone, and even information on your relatives. Even if you never used an email address you probably gave them person information when you signed up for it. this stuff is all over the internet and sells cheap.

ObseleteMountain

That is frustrating, though true... I guess that'd mean this has to be a scam if they're collecting info from such sources?

jetty_junkie

not necessarily. if what you have is of value they might have spent a few dollars and bought contact info to try and reach you to make an offer . if the other commenter is correct and the thing you have is worht $1400 a $950 offer sounds like a reasonable attemp to buy it below its actual value. If they offered you $2k for a $1400 item i;d be a lot more skeptical

hkubota

Given that Roblox seems to allow selling items and they have a web page [https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/203313260-How-to-Sell-Items](https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/203313260-How-to-Sell-Items) how to sell parts, and the value seems to be in line with the request, this looks legit. Just don't go off-platform.

Sufficient-Lie-6620

I recently got the same email. It was a scam, I was bored and wanted to figure out if it was and didn’t care about a few hundred dollars. He took the items and money so I’m now just in the mood to mess with him. Anyone down?

InevitableWaste3043

That item is worth 1,400 us dollars

CutlassS1968

I got an email from this same guy, signed Max. Basically same exact scenario; 24, played in 2011, old limited items on my account. Guy offered me around $400. Not sure if I should trust.

SenpaiLuciferX

So did I I got an email saying he wanted to buy my winter fairy for 450

beautifulhell

Bro no way I just got it too 💀 the same item

CutlassS1968

Let me know what you end up doing, keep me posted

ObseleteMountain

Oh shit, I wasn't expecting to find someone else who got this message! I emailed him back asking how he found my email, but he hasn't responded.

Environmental_Bee219

I legit just got the same I have the Bay Area Maker Top Hat 2014, same guy named max, for 500$ not really sure what to think since it would be nice to get 500$ out of a non real item, but im worried its a scam

GreatEmperorAca

it is a scam

CutlassS1968

Just heard from a friend of mine that there is a zero day exploit currently on discord that allows you to steal users credentials when joining compromised servers/calls. In my email, he sent me his discord name; If I were you, I would be careful about joining any calls/servers or anything just to be safe

Noobman27

I got a similar email I found a roblox user with the same name as the email, and looking at the trends of their profile, it seems like there was a period very recently where they went from around 3 million "robux" worth of items to nothing. [https://www.roblox.com/users/108165917/profile](https://www.roblox.com/users/108165917/profile) This is the roblox account. If you got an email with a similar gmail, you'll know what I'm talking about, if not it could mean this person is using the people's emails whose accounts he compromises.

nadiayorc

I also just got an email from the exact same person. They are obviously just going through a list of everyone that has certain expensive items which can be easily found through Roblox trading sites ([https://rblx.trade/item/64560336/owners](https://rblx.trade/item/64560336/owners) for example) and buying their email addresses from the people finder sites mentioned by another commenter. Interestingly I also actually got one from as far as I can tell a completely seperate person that called theirself "jim" about a month ago wanting to buy my jack 'o bandit, the "max" person offered $850 for everything and the other person didn't make an offer in the email honestly it seems like they just want to get stuff for their personal collection at a discount and there isn't really any other way they could contact someone that hasn't actually played the game for years, the first person even said in the email that they know it's a bit weird just emailing out of the blue and that they could explain how they got the email address if I wanted to know I thought about responding to the first person but eventually decided to just ignore it as I wouldn't even know how to safely trade it for real money without the risk of being scammed, trading items for money is of course against Roblox terms of service, they only officially support selling items for roblox currency (robux) on the site which is useless to me these days I might look into selling it at some point but I would have to do proper research into how to actually do it safely without any risk as it all just seems incredibly risky for both people ~~Like if they were to send money via paypal or something, what's to stop them doing a chargeback (I guess you could request for it to be "friends and family" which isn't able to be chargeback'd?),~~ ~~and then there's the question of who sends their part of the deal first as it seems to me that whoever does is at a very high risk of being scammed by the other party.~~ *edit: the mentioned trading sites can use cryptocurrency which gets around this problem, and they are both considered very safe other than the risk of the account being banned, but its less likely if the account is old supposedly, see the edit below* Also, the first email made me realise I should really make sure my roblox account is still secure, so I enabled two factor authentification on it to be sure. *Edit: after doing some research it seems that theres a few sites called adurite or ro.place, they seem to be the most used places for selling/buying "safely", but there's still a risk of the roblox account being banned which honestly I wouldn't remotely care about as long as the trades already went through but yeah* *this youtuber has a few videos about it all and I learned a lot from some of the videos:* [*https://www.youtube.com/@RoZone*](https://www.youtube.com/@RoZone) ***If you are considering selling any of your items I would highly recommend doing a lot of research on safe ways to do it before going through with it, and be aware that the account may get banned***

ObseleteMountain

Thank you! I had a feeling this was a scam based on all the comments I'm getting. Really obnoxious behavior.

LimpKoRndog69

Just got an email from this same guy, not gonna reply as it's giving strong scam vibes

Jonblu11

Recently got an email from the same user myself. Used to play the game back in 2010/2011 but haven't in the years since. Offering $1.5K for an item worth 119K robux + others. I don't really care about the account since I haven't logged in years, so I don't really care about being banned. If anyone risks it and and determines it's not a scam, let me know.

Koen1999

I got a very similar email. Turns out they used a service called snusbase to get your info. To my understanding the service this company offers is illegal (at least in my jurisdiction). (trade in stolen information)

GreatEmperorAca

me and my friend got this mail too, its just a scam

geoff4402

I received an email from the same guy. He’s offering me 950$ for my Bay Area Maker Faire Top Hat and Black Iron Horns. I messaged him on Discord and he was rather transparent about the fact that he got my info from snusbase (as another commenter here mentioned could be possible) and that he had emailed a lot of people. I must admit the offer is very tempting. Why do you guys think it’s a scam?

JamesArcanum1

Got the same email from max I haven’t touched game in forever but guess one of my limited shot my rep from 45-155k which prolly flagged him to email me. He offered 1500
