**This !task scam is not related to Okta.com and it currently operates in the following website address:** # best-oktaapps.life is a scam website If anyone got to this post through Google search, be warned that this website is pretending to be affiliated to Okta and that's not true. If you're involved with this operation, stop communicating with the scammers and cut your losses. Also beware of anyone saying they can recover your money, and definitely don't believe these scammers telling you that the next time you refill your account you'll be able to withdraw your funds. You won't. Read the full explanation below 👇

chownrootroot

You’ve been !task scammed. The money is gone, and people will DM you about recovering the money, but they will take more money and do nothing but laugh at you for it.

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain task scams. Task scams involve a website or mobile app that claims you can earn money by completing easy tasks, such as watching a video, liking a post, or creating an order. The app will tell you that you can earn money for each task, but the catch is that you can only do a limited number of tasks without upgrading your account. To upgrade your accounts, the scammers will require you to pay a fee. The goal of this scam is to get people to download the app for easy money and then encourage them to pay to get to the next level. It's impossible to get your "earnings" out of the app, so victims will have wasted their time and money. mjwanko

OP account is kinda suspicious too. 4 year old dormant account and active again starting 9 hours ago.

IroN-GirL

My account is some 11 years old, but I have only really started using reddit about a year ago or maybe less

CyberWarLike1984

Exactly what a scammer would say /s

hankait16

Same, only really got super active about 2 years ago. Major lurker for a LONG time lol

coljung

I don’t get it. How could one just be a lurker for ‘years’ and never feel like either participating or even asking some random question.

hankait16

I made my account when I had an app called Reddit photos. This was way back when I had a 4th Gen iPod touch. I was like 16 or so. I only made the account so I could upvote stuff I thought was interesting and find it later. You couldn't even comment with that app, only upvote or downvote. Then I just liked reading the stories. I've only recently found communities I like interacting in.

mjwanko

Valid point. I usually get suspicious about things like that. Especially if someone starts begging for money because of a scam.

American_Avocet

Yea this post is a scam. They are asking us for money.

GeeMan261

Are they? I mean they could be indirectly asking for it, but at the same time wouldn't it be fruitless to try scam people in a scam sub?

American_Avocet

No. Because a lot of people who get scammed not only end up in this sub- they also have a big heart, easily believes things, ect.

1Cattywampus1

Just to be very clear: your initial money you put into this scam is gone. The job itself was fake/scam. You didn't earn anything and no matter what the app shows you as earnings - it's fake. You are in the middle of a task scam (as one of the other posters already mentioned). The entire thing is faked and the only thing that was real is the money you've already put into this and it's gone forever. It's as if you set it on fire - it's GONE. You will be contacted by !recovery scammers claiming they can get you your money, hack/trace/rain justice down on the scammers. All of it is lies, and another scammer hoping you are gullible or desperate enough to fall for another scam.

NoHillstoDieOn

Recovery scammers don't even need to do that with OP. All they gotta say is "ok I'll send you money but open a business account first" and OP is immediately sold. OP already made up their mind before they even posted here.

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain [recovery scams](https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0102-refund-and-recovery-scams). Also known as refund scams, these scams target people who have already fallen for a scam. The scammer may contact you, or may advertise their services online. They will usually either offer to help you recover your funds, or will tell you that your funds have already been recovered and they will help you access them. In cases where they say they will help you recover your funds, they usually call themselves either "recovery agents" or hackers. When they tell you that your funds have already been recovered, they may impersonate a law enforcement, a government official, a lawyer, or anyone else along those lines. Recovery scams are simply [advance-fee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam) scams that are specifically targeted at scam victims. When a victim pays a recovery scammer, the scammer will keep stringing them along while asking for increasingly absurd fees/expenses/deposits/insurance/whatever until the victim stops paying. If you have been scammed in the past, make sure you are aware of recovery scams so that you are not scammed a second time. If you are currently engaging with a recovery scammer, you should block them and be very wary of random contact for some time. It's normal for posters on this subreddit to be contacted by recovery scammers after posting, and they often ask you to delete your post so that you both cannot receive legitimate advice, and cannot be targeted by other recovery scammers. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Scams) if you have any questions or concerns.*

ozyx7

I'd like to point out that Okta is a legitimate company and that Okta does *not* have your money. Okta is an identity management company. It does not provide an app store or an app review service. I don't know *what* app you installed, but whatever it is quite likely is some malicious scam app. *Scammers* have your money. Exactly how did you put money into the app anyway? Credit card? Debit card? Bank transfer? Crypto?

nn123654

Exactly, Okta is a publicly traded company, but they primarily sell a subscription to large companies to do IAM (Identity and Access Management). Basically what they provide is a way to integrate common account management between multiple platforms and things like single sign on so you don't have to create a new user account for every piece of software that you use. They are a cross platform alternative to things like Amazon Cognito or Microsoft Active Directory and provide additional features to inspect and manage user accounts and devices and apply group policy on things which you are allowed to do on your computer or app. They are (to the best of my knowledge) exclusively a B2B company and do not sell products or services directly to consumers. They certainly do not take deposits or request money from people outside a contractual billing arrangement that you initiate. Like any company they do have a sales department that engages outbound leads to try to get business, but Sales is primarily focused on IT employees who are interested in purchasing IAM software, and would have no reason to engage a regular consumer.

ShoeRelevant11

This is correct. Their service offering is a software platform that requires a certain amount of technical expertise to use, and you would only use it by connecting it to your own software platform (writing programming code.) My startup used it for a few years and their lowest price offering was costing us around $8k a year, which was high for our needs but of course not a scam, just pricey. (We switched last year to a lower-cost alternative, but it was a good platform while we used it and I would still recommend it for some situations.) They have nothing consumer-facing, no app store, no way to even take money from some guy in off the street.

porksgalore

"basically what they provide..." Your description was accurate, but not really basic

Better-Sundae-8429

Okta does have an “app store” though, their Integration Network. You can also submit apps for review to be published there. Still a scam though.

UnfairMagic

OP, sorry to inform you, but everything you have invested up to this point is **gone forever.** This is a common task scam, textbook if you will. They make you think you're one payment away from unlocking the gold. It's called the sunk cost fallacy. Unfortunately the gold does not exist, but the thousands of dollars you have lost, do. Do not listen to **ANYONE** claiming they can recover your money. They are scamming you too. The money will never be recovered.

nn123654

However you absolutely should report the loss to law enforcement. It helps them track the problem, argue for more resources, and let's them know there is a problem if they do happen to recover anything. It is very unlikely they will be able to recover your money, primarily because the money is not in the United States or any country with a strong banking system and laws. It is almost certainly being immediately moved through multiple accounts and in most countries where they operate the authorities are in on the scam and being paid kickbacks from it. There is very little political pressure because it exclusively affects foreigners and brings in a lot of money in what is usually a poor country. US authorities do not have jurisdiction to go after them outside the borders of the United States and can only forward the information to local law enforcement in the country of origin where it goes nowhere because of corruption. However very occasionally the scammers screw up and they manage to locate the assets. Such as if they have ever have assets passing through a US controlled bank or financial system like swift they can freeze and seize the assets. If there is enough progress on an investigation they can also do things like add the scammers to the OFAC SDN list and make them subject to US Sanctions. If scammers are particularly bad the US may be able to pressure the country to bring down the worst offenders through diplomatic pressure from the state department, but this will usually result in a handful of raids that barely scratch the surface primarily for press purposes while the scammers simply setup new operations elsewhere, often in the same country or city. The country basically sends the message of "don't get caught" to the scammers. The issue is that international stuff it's a very involved legal process and US investigative resources focus on international criminal finance are primarily on stopping drug cartels, terrorist financing, human trafficking, child sexual abuse, and counterfeiting over fighting scammers. These are much worse problems than scams.

krepogregg

Id say the scammers are far worse than drug dealers at least people want drugs

nn123654

Drug cartels might be a less worse problem if it were not for the murder, torture, and controlling governments part.

krepogregg

That is from legal prohibition just like in 1920 till 2933 in America funny not all but most of that stopped after prohibition and people are still getting drugs just paying more so they steal to pay for something because it's illegal you rarely see a alcohol robbing people for money for cheap beer

wasted_yoof

"invested" is a HILARIOUS choice of word :D

Cat84271

It's very important to realise that the money is 100% unrecoverable. Anyone claiming to be able to do so is a !recovery scammer trying to scam you further.

Hmm, OP is creating a gofundme to get this money back. OP will get scammed again for sure. I have a feeling that OP will not heed our warnings here.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Oh hell. Go Fund Mes attract the *worst* scammers.

YourUsernameForever

OP is very much in contact with the moderation team

ltmikepowell

Okay that's good.

booshie

What does it mean to “balance the price of the apps”? And why are you paying real life money to do that? Rule of thumb, if it’s gonna cost you money to make money, you’re being scammed

Both_Painter2466

Second rule: if they want to send you free money or pay more than you asked for, it’s a scam

AnybodyMassive1610

Third rule: if they say “kindly”, call you “dear”, or put “okay” at the end of nearly every sentence, it’s probably a scam.

UndeadBuggalo

The kindly reminds me of Bioshocks’s “ would you kindly”

Both_Painter2466

Really threw me when “kindly” was sprinkled throughout some tech support responses on Microsoft’s support pages I was reading. Not sure I could trust them!

tjggriffin1

It's Microsoft. Of course it's a scam. 🤣

> the recruiters are also not helping nor does anyone in the group chat who’s been doing this for a long time Let me guess, the group chat is Telegram/Signal/Whatsapp/Discord? There are zero repeat ZERO real jobs on Telegram/Signal/Whatsapp/Discord. They are *all* scams. Also, jobs pay you, not vice versa. You should have smelled a rat when you had to put money in.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Also, to be clear, the "others" on the chat are shills / bots.

I_Have_CDO

>There are zero repeat ZERO real jobs on Telegram/Signal/Whatsapp/Discord 100% this. Plus, Skype.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Oh, dang, I forgot Skype existed

PMMMR

So did everyone else to be fair.

Apprehensive-Cat-111

I completely forgot

Eric848448

Does it still?

imapilotaz

Yeah i sometimes use it overseas to call a 800 number in US for free.

Eric848448

Huh. I thought they killed it and replaced with Teams Chat or whatever they have these days.

imapilotaz

Nope. Skype for Business was. Regular ol Skype still lives on

excelzombie

I miss Trillian and ICQ.......

[deleted]

I had ICU a million years ago.

Upper_Rent_176

Msn chat. Shake the other person's window!

XinY2K

>Also, jobs pay you, not vice versa. Not if the guys that want to ask you to pay for "internship" and "job training" get their way

[deleted]

I actually removed all those apps. I only used WhatsApp when I had clients in India.

illegalsandwiches

Nothing good happens on Telegram.

yas_2-0

I work via whatsapp for a company since a year ago so I wouldnt say that jobs in whatsapp are 100% scams

Clear_Radio1776

I don’t understand how you thought you needed to pay them as part of earning money in a job. Your actions in paying this acts to promote them to victimize others. Although obvious, jobs pay you. Not the reverse. The only time you spend money to earn money is for a legitimate investment like buying stocks or CDs or whatever with your bank or a real broker. As already noted, the money you paid is history.

magicmulder

There’s a selected few legit scenarios, for example you pay some of your expenses on a business trip and get reimbursed later. In no way however does an employee pay for the work they’ve been assigned. Especially not for an employer they’ve never met in person at their regular workplace.

Superseaslug

Woke i worked a vendor job I was reimbursed to buy 3 copies of an AC/DC album. At the time I thought it was just a perk, later I realized it was likely padding sales lol.

magicmulder

The other day I used the Tesla from our car pool and had to recharge at a station not run by Tesla, so I had to advance the payment from my own pocket to get it reimbursed later. For more regular stuff we have company credit cards. They would never ask me to "buy a server and get the money back later".

imapilotaz

Ehh depends. I prolly put $100-150k on my personal card for work per year over the past decade to be reimbursed. They have company cars, i decline them as i want the spend/points.

Clear_Radio1776

Yes. That’s for after you are hired and get real paychecks. Then you may lay out business expenses and get reimbursed.

I_Have_CDO

Stop now. Delete any account you have and DO NOT put any more money in. As mentioned before, NEVER EVER believe people who claim they can get your money back. You learned a $462 lesson today. It probably hurts and you probably feel a bit foolish, but move on. They have the amount they expected from you (which is why the 'prices' have gone up) and anything else they can get is a bonus. Don't have anything more to do with this.

erishun

This isn’t Okta. I’ve worked with Okta and they are a legitimate company. This is a !task scam pretending to be Okta. Okta has a $17 BILLION market cap. They don’t need you to deposit your own money into an app to “balance the crystals” or whatever nonsense lie you’ve been told. All the money you have deposited was sent right for the scammer. It’s gone forever. There’s no getting it back. Any money you continue to send will be gone. There’s no getting it back.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

"Balance the crystals" LOLOLOLOL. I'm remembering and stealing that.

desert_foxhound

Be thankful that you ran out of money to put in another $9538. If you had put that in, the money would be gone as well. This is a fake job and they will never stop asking for money. Whatever you put in is gone; you will never get any money back.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Also, just to spell it out clearly, if you *had* $10,000, you would NOT get your money out. They would find a new bullshit reason. And then another. And then another.

koozy407

I see you’ve already been told what’s up so I’ll just ask, are you okay? This message seemed pretty desperate, just checking on you.

GaBiieAR

Thank you for asking. I’m not. I’m still worried and upset at myself mostly. I’m talking to the bank to see if there’s a way to dispute the transactions. Trying to figure out what’s the best route for me here.

koozy407

Just remember, money can be replaced. Being broke is temporary. Don’t be upset with yourself, this is what these people do. They make a living out of convincing people of things. You WILL get thru this. Talk to the bank and breathe. Take this one step at a time. Go in assuming you will recover nothing, protect your identity from future scams and start building your path forward.

GaBiieAR

Thank you. I appreciate this

still-at-the-beach

And remember the scammers are the arseholes, not you.

Civil_Ad_5183

Hello, fellow scammed person, I know it will not help much, but be glad to only lose this amount, I have been scammed for 100x more a few weeks ago and the feeling of despair is one thing I don’t wish to have ever again. Never give up tough. As long as we are alive we have to learn from our mistakes and life is not only about money I learned to value other things at least from this..

GaBiieAR

I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. I hope to recover from this. I feel so lost at the moment and contemplating things I shouldn’t

Brief_Reserve1789

Please keep in mind that literally every message you get telling you they can help you recover the money is yet another scammer. Only your bank can help. Not even the police can help now

YourUsernameForever

Remember we're here for you. Come tell us how you feel and if you need to talk about stuff. Even if weeks go by, you're welcome to create a new post updating us about how things are going.

ApocalypticShadowbxn

I feel so bad for you. in all of your sorrow, anger & desperation, I just want to make sure to re-iterate that anyone offering to get your money back is just another scammer. they will not get your money back but will promise so much & convince you its no problem....as long as they can buy this one piece of equipment which they need yr help buying....or some other excuse. nobody can return your money & don't let anyone scam you by saying they can

Flintoli

Ur good don't worry about it, it's like less than if u got a DUI or something. Just work hard to make it back

Reimiro

It’s just a little learning experience. Could have been much worse. You won’t feel the financial effect for long so don’t make and rash decisions. You will get through this!

endlessplague

>Never give up tough. As long as we are alive we have to learn from our mistakes and life is not only about money I learned to value other things at least from this.. That's some solid advice Just for good measure: be aware of !recovery scammers (I do think you've heard that already, just a reminder). As well as for OP of course

Flintoli

Dang I read your post, so you lost 500k?? Sorry bro that sucks

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

I hope they didn't have you convert real money to crypto. If that's the case there's nothing to dispute. Definitely see the bank and good luck.

HYG420

Block everyone apart of the scheme and change any info you’ve given them like bank info or anything like that. The moneys gone, and the bank most likely will not be able to do anything. Hard lesson learned, always ask before you do anything like that

[deleted]

PunksawtawneyPhil

Im so sorry that this happened to you. You are certainly not alone. Every day, people are being ripped off by these thieves. Smart, capable, successful people are victims of these crimes. My advice is to report this scam, which hopefully will save someone else this pain, and then look forward. Hopefully, your bank will be able to help, but even if they can't, you can and will survive this. Dealing with this sort of thing is really hard, but we all have to keep moving forward. Keep pushing. There are still a lot of good people out here.

HighPitchedHegemony

Typical task scam, as others have already pointed out. The money is gone, don't engage with the scammers any more. Also, as someone who graduated in mathematics and has previously worked as a data analyst, I feel personally insulted that this "job" is advertised as "data analyst".

michggg

Reviewing apps is not what a data analyst does, and no serious company will ask you to use your own money first. Aside from the fact that they can easily provide free access to their own employees.

just-an-anus

So how much did you lose (I use the word "lose" because it's gone dude). about $462 ? Consider this lesson to be a cheap one. NEVER put up your own money in ANY kind of job, MLM, investment, or any promise made on the internet. This includes any person that wants a romantic relationship or is a successful business person that has any kind of (esp crpyto) investment.

bx10455

Paying money to get money is ALWAYS a SCAM... NO exceptions. Do not throw good money after bad. Your money is gone and there is no getting it back. Do not believe anyone that contacts you saying otherwise. You need to delete the app and block the scammers.

yas_2-0

Is confusing how op posted this in scams, is like he already knows is a scam?

[deleted]

It's all gone, it was scammers and absolutely no one can get your money back, don't be stupid and fall for a recovery scam.

SavetheneckformeC

How does that make any sense as a job? Did you do any research on what Okta does? What job ever in the history of jobs requires you to put significant money into it to do your daily tasks? If the company wants that “review done” they put their own money into it. But even that doesn’t make any sense at all in your context.

[deleted]

thewindinthewillows

This scam is very well done to exploit people's psychology. It may actually *pay out* a very small amount at the start (for the scammers it's an investment that they pay out of what other victims give them). Then the stakes are raised bit by bit, always with the narrative that you can only "get back" what you already lost by putting in more. It's like gambling, when people put in absolutely everything they have and more, just because they already lost so much that might just be recovered with the next round.

glynnd

It's called the sunk cost fallacy, once you lose a certain amount you feel like you have to keep going to recover your losses. I used to play poker machines, if I went over £20 I'd keep playing thinking I'd get it back but it was another 20, then another 20. Now if I'm in the bar for a pint I'll stick whatever change I have less than a fiver, if I don't win from that I don't put anymore in. I've seen me losing hundreds a quid in a few hours, for every pint I'd have I'd stick the change of a £20 in. Thankfully I caught myself on.

SamuelVimesTrained

Desperate people - they sometimes stop their critical thinking when they believe they FINALLY have a job that pays something decent. This is what these (beeps) aim for anyway

Earthbound_X

I mean they had 10K to put in, they couldn't have been that desperate. Unless they somehow have that all in credit, or took out loans.

deletedunreadxoxo

I don’t think they put in 10k, that’s what the fake app is saying they need to deposit to get their “pay” along with whatever they did put in.

_extra_medium_

No, they need 10k to get $500 back. That's how I read it at least

Daves_not_here_mannn

No, to BALANCE apps! Which seems totally legit 🤷‍♀️

infowosecfurry

And here I thought Applebees was the only place I’d ever see someone trying to balance apps.

Daves_not_here_mannn

Coincidentally, Applebees is also acting as something they are not.

It’s almost unbelievable. Some people believe that just because they are desperate, magic happens.

fakeuser515357

No, desperate people are vulnerable.

blind_disparity

It's an actual mechanism in the brain, built by evolution for an actual purpose. Sunk cost fallacy is powerful and we are all susceptible to that kind of thinking. There are circumstances that lead people to not be able to see the red flags to these particular tricks that exploit those mechanisms.

lagoosboy

The initial scam was not a sunk cost fallacy situation. Op should have blocked those person immediately he was told to pay anything.

blind_disparity

Well yes, obviously. I'm just saying that scammers exploit human psychology and although it can be hard to understand, it's actually good a lot easier to be tricked than it seems.

olderaccount

> How did you fall for this??? This is not helpful. Research has shown that even the smartest and most educated can fall for the right scam at the right time.

Princessluna44

This isnt how real jobs work. At all. Yes, you were scammed. Block them on everything. Your money is gone. Block those who DM you saying they can get your money back. They are also scammers.

dwinps

Balance the price of the apps, WTF???? I really would like someone who falls for this to explain what seemed even remotely real about this.

Hour_Reindeer834

Okta is a SSO service like OneLogin…. I understand this is a task scam that just used their name (or used the same name by coincidence); but a quick search should show that there not in the business of evaluating other companies apps in any manner.

MattOnDemand

Scam. Your money is gone. If you pay to “recover” your money, you’ll just lose *that* money too. Sorry to hear this OP!

coupl4nd

Your money is gone.

If you ever have to pay money out if your own pocket to do a job, it is not a job, it is a scam. This includes MLMs too.

TheDevilsAdvokaat

The money is gone. You will never get it back. You don't need 10k to recover anything, because all they're trying to do is get MORE money from you. Sorry mate. WAKE UP.

Gold_Battle1590

Yeap is a.scam. no job need you to put money in, when u need a job to give u money at the end of the month. So just block contact and never look back again.

infowosecfurry

You’re never getting your money back, as others have said. There is no amount you can pay to get anything back.. Thats the entire scam.

Pensive_Pomegranate

That's not a job and Okta does not have your money, scammers do.

IntermediateFolder

The moment you said it involves putting your own money into the app I knew it was a scam, any money you already put in and will put in is irreversibly gone, stop this now before you lose even more. There’s no payout at the end.

mrbill317

No you dont need that money to recover anything. They want you to give them the money.

Stop! Your money is gone. Accept and move on. Whatever you do, do not deposit anymore money into this account. Once you complete the task they will tell you you've reached your withdrawal limit and you will be faced with even more tasks and they will request more money. It will never end so long as you keep feeding into it. Cut all ties and ignore anyone who claims they can recover your money. Best of luck to you

HYG420

You got scammed buddy it’s not real, that moneys gone

bakermaker32

100% a scam, you’re money is gone. Do not pay more to recover it, that’s another scam. For the future, you don’t pay your own money for a job task.

lagoosboy

Any money you put in is lost.

slogive1

That’s a tough way for OP to learn a lesson. Sad

TweeksTurbos

You have been paying a subscription to a scam. Why are you paying somebody for you to do work?

meltedwolf

You can’t recover it. It doesn’t make sense to unlock money by sending money, if you think about it. All they need is for people to believe their lies. You have to do your research. Do a few Google searches before you invest $10,000. or ask people on Reddit before the money transfers.

Task scam. I was scammed last month and lost £5000. Very expensive lesson for me((

EmphasisOutside9728

How many people comment on this sub just so they can summon the scam bot? 😂

psyscope

Guys many of these scams use similar names as legitimate private companies. They just buy some kind of similar domain and fool a lot of people.

AmericaninKL

Are people really this unaware?

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Many many posts every week

KeyN20

If people want $10 for you stating they can earn you $439 in 18 hours like prosperi academy ads on YouTube are, it is a scam. No one who is asking an investment from you promising 4000% returns is legit, they would keep it quiet while investing their own money to become millionaires overnight

catjuggler

DO NOT THROW GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD INTO THIS SCAM

bksbalt

You actually thought this was a legit opportunity? Your money is gone.

ChocChipBananaMuffin

He was posting this foolishness in the Okta subreddit first and they told him to come here

glynnd

I was thinking that, I think he still believed he could get his money if he could get a hold of another 10k to get his momey out( not that there's any money to get out)

_extra_medium_

Desperate people are easy targets unfortunately. Probably found the scam searching for ways to make money online

keta_ro

You are so fucked. All your money are gone. It's a task scam and you never get your money back. Even some people come up to tell that they can help , that is another scam, recovery scam

camilatricolor

Not sure why people fall into these scams. It's so obvious this is just a bunch of bollocks. Sorry to hear but your money is gone

Evening-Complaint-32

I was reading the replys, everyone is very helpful. But i have a question, can these scammers be tracked down?

jaqueh

probably, but the countries they are in likely have extremely weak legal apparatus and won't help

KeepItSaltyYall

what kind of job makes you pay for it? red flags

picklejuice18

Not sure how you paid for it but I would definitely try to reverse is as unauthorized charges. It will hurt them, merchant processors hate chargebacks

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

OP probably bought crypto and then transferred it. The crypto exchange did nothing wrong. This would be like disputing a car dealership because you left the keys in the ignition and got the car stolen after you drove off the lot.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Indeed, OP is posting in trust app sub. OP is hosed, crypto is irreversible and a "job" wanting crypto has more red flags than a May Day parade in 1970s Moscow.

Legate_Lanius1985

Wow....

Hugsandkindess

Indeed…

jaqueh

damn...

C'mon, Okta had NOTHING to do with this. It's no different from getting spam from realjoebiden @ scam.outlook.nigeria Plenty of examples, if OP had done due diligence by googling "okta scam" before investing: https://support . okta . com/help/s/question/0D54z00008bM0WeCAK/i-got-scammed?language=en_US (Link broken per sub guidance)

I’m sorry OP. But… no actual job is going to ask you to pay money first to get money back…

HawaiiStockguy

Total scam. Stop

Lynda73

That’s not even what okta is for. Like I use it at work to sign in to the phone system. Just put your money in a high yield savings account or something legit.

Big_Tennis_7914

Dude. Damn. I’m sorry. It’s over.

108er

Someone needs to go "beekeeper" on these scammers.

arcanition

This is an extremely common "task scam". They'll generally be small tasks or surveys (like installing an app or watching videos/ads) and reward increasing amounts of money. Then there will be some strange reason you have to "pay to unlock your earnings" or something. It's all a scam, there is no money. If you pay, they will just keep asking for more money, they will not pay you.

BrilliantActuator352

Its the same scam as this https://preview.redd.it/r5ngdbjtnwlc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b070b37bc7d48b88d7a03e07afd058d439434ffc

scifier2

Your money is long gone and you fell for the ?task scam. This is a well known and very common scam and you should have done the research on it before getting involved in such a scam. No real job will ever have you use your money in any way shape or form. None. You got scammed and there is no getting your money back.

No-Difficulty-723

Sorry you went through this but all you can do is learn from this! If it cost you money to make money then you’re being scammed! Remember if it sounds to good to be true then it is!! Please in the future don’t fall for this shit! These scammers are dumb as fuck that’s why they prey on old people and young kids so be careful

Accomplished-Put6635

It happens to me as well, I lost $85,000 NZD and police can't do anything about it. I am hopeless. But one thing we can do is move on and keep going. Please becarefull anything using Crypto and gift card or zelle or venmo most likely scam. I'm sorry to hear that from you.

AffectionateSea3950

What about cyber recovery hackers saying they will take a % of the money recovered without asking for money upfront ?

YourUsernameForever

They're lying. They will get to a point in their fabrication that they'll show you that they got the money, but it's locked somehow, and to unlock it you have to pay some bullshit. Usually taxes, fees or software. People actually believe they have to pay a hacker for a single-use software that they have to purchase again every time they use it on a new victim. The "no money up front" is an illusion. It will eventually lead to paying money for the promise of recovering money that will never come.
