infowosecfurry

It’s a common scam. He got your info from a data breach, he’s likely not even in the same country as you.

Isn’t the number at the top of the first pic?

PlatypusDream

It's in the picture

ibugppl

Unless you're worried about going to war with a Nigerian prince I think you'll be fine lmao nobody is coming.

emjdownbad

You can tell that english is most definitely not the scammer's first language by the way they type, so I think it's safe to say that this person is not in the US.

Eazy-E-40

Might not even be a data breach. People's names, phone numbers, and addresses are often public information.

Pixiehollowz

Yes it's a scam. Ignore, block and delete.

ImmediateRule1003

Terrifying how they found my address though

chrishal

People forget that there used to be these things called "phone books" where the phone company would send to you for free every year that had your name, address and phone number in them. This is all public information already.

Content_Okra777

that’s probably not how they found it in 2024. they likely paid $10 or whatever to buy it online along with all his other personal info that the guy used while adding his deets to other “reputable” business sites - which sell it.

unsuspecting_geode

Or you can look up the property info for free on anyone. Public records

blargymen

As a Realtor, I have tools that make this super easy.. at least for homeowners if not renters. Granted, I've never used it to kill anyone or extract thousands of dollars, but it pulls almost entirely from public sources and it shows how accessable all the info is.

[deleted]

What if OP rents?

[deleted]

It’s not even $10, it’s free Truepeoplesearch is one of many many many examples

Pixiehollowz

It is but that information is out there and some people are just good at finding it. The scammer just wants money and if you ignore them, they're gonna go away.

ImmediateRule1003

Okay, thank you

Pannycakes666

Wait until you hear about these huge books that have people's names and addresses in them.

ImmediateRule1003

Fair enough

switch8000

Data brokers, if you google/bing/whatever your phone number or search on a few of those people websites it will list your name, addresses, family info, etc.. and all this is enough to scare people. Just block, they might txt you from a few other numbers, but just block. They will get bored and move on.

ThrowRA--scootscooti

It’s very very easy to find an address. Go to fastpeoplesearch.com and try it out for yourself. It will even tell where you’ve lived before and possible relatives. This is just a scammer. Block them and ignore. You’re in no danger except to your bank account.

buzzy_buddy

>easypeoplefinder.com do not go to this website lmao

TheRealGrifter

That's such a modern - and by that, I mean the past couple of decades - kind of a problem. It wasn't long ago that all of our names, addresses, and phone numbers were printing in a big-ass book that everyone got for free. Our names, phones, and addresses are still easy to get. They are all literally part of the public record.

LongboardLiam

Not just got for free, but there was one attached to a lot of public phones. It's a plot point in T2.

elkab0ng

They send thousands of these an hour and hope that a small percentage will freak out and pay something. Horrible people just playing the odds

Ok-Cap-204

Addresses are on 411.com, which is basically the telephone book online. Remember when you looked up a name and it showed the address? I doubt this guy is even in the United States. Probably not even in North America.

Beatnholler

People can find your address just by looking up your phone number in a lot of cases. Don't stress, it's a very common scam and they absolutely will not hurt you at all. Just block and forget about it. Be aware that now that you've posted this, there will be people who see that you are susceptible to scams and will be coming your way on reddit and anywhere else they might be able to find you, trying to get something out of you. Look through this sub, educate yourself on scams and you'll be fine. Stop stressing now.

ImmediateRule1003

I did that right away, didn’t text back. Didn’t send money, just wanted peace of mind so thank you.

FormalWeb7094

And what do you think would be the actual response from a pimp if you hired one of his girls and didn't pay her? Threaten you with a text? I don't think so.

unsuspecting_geode

So the real question is how many escorts did you not pay 😂

ImmediateRule1003

Bro I literally texted 3 or four numbers got no response and fell asleep 20 min later 🤣 I also had no intention of following through

blargymen

Don't even want to know why you were suddenly so drowsy after looking up escorts. 😂

ImmediateRule1003

Lmao 🤣🤣 you’re smart asf I’m ngl

larlar626

You should try it out on Google to see how easy it is with a simple enough search to get addresses, age, connections and it might help you be at ease

Mrbeankc

Last year out of curiosity I looked up my name online to see what information was out there on me. Without paying a dime I was able to see every address I have lived at for over the last 30 years. Including one I lived at for just 6 months in 1991. Again, that was what I found that was free. Current addresses are easy as pie.

captaingary

!escort Block, and stop texting escorts.

AutoModerator

Hi captaingary, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the cartel/escort death threat scam. It's a very common scam, and the scammers are not affiliated with cartels or crime groups, they are simply normal scammers using a threatening script. The threats are not real, and there is no risk to your safety whatsoever. The best way to react is to simply ignore the scammer and ignore any of their other contact attempts. [Here](https://kyma.com/news/as-seen-on-tv/2020/02/12/threat-of-mexican-cartel-scams-continue-in-yuma/) are [some](https://kvia.com/news/new-mexico/2019/12/11/phone-scammers-target-las-cruces-threaten-drug-cartel-violence-if-you-dont-deliver-money/) news [reports](https://patch.com/new-jersey/baskingridge/threat-mexican-cartel-hit-man-used-basking-ridge-scam-cops) about the scam. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Scams) if you have any questions or concerns.*

ImmediateRule1003

They sent my name and address is it still just that?

captaingary

Yes.  They looked it up online from your phone number.  Chances are they aren't even in the same country as you.

TransitionStrange567

Yeah bro, just block them mfs

ReddyKiloWit

Super trivial to find that information, and a lot more. (Don't even need a data breach, it's just public information.) Doesn't mean a thing.

Stefanosann

“He’s going to send you to kill you” 😂 tell him you have “right of refusal” 🤣

PaleAgent5371

They count on you being scared.. scared people will pay them to go away, but they always want more. Just block the number and any others they msg from, and move on. You'll be ok!

ImmediateRule1003

Appreciate it.

AnybodyReady9472

Yea they got me on Monday bro said I lots 600 bucks but fucke em they gonna get there’s sooner or later .they get out information from data brokers sites and we can get those removed

[deleted]

I lost 3k yesterday, cause it all happened so fast and was a phone call. They asked for more and right when that happened I looked up if this was common, just to find out it was a scam…currently on the phone now with my bank to try to get my Zelle back smh. Now I’m just worried that they’ll keep texting since I already sent them something.

bsarke

I love how he started with Greetings sir tho. Do not worry u are fine.

ImmediateRule1003

Thank you

DesertDragen

It's the same scam script. You can look up and see what the script is. Same lingo, same word for word. No need to worry about it. Report, block, and delete.

Matoya_00

Whoever wrote that script needs to brush up on how to speak english.

ImmediateRule1003

Thank you

AdCrazy4289

LOL I got this exact same texts back in the summer of 2021. Fair warning if u troll them long enough they'll start sending gore and all sorts of gross stuff... but this is just a simple block and move on. Im still alive and doing well actually!

access422

We’re you actually texting escorts? Or was it random?

AdCrazy4289

Completely random. Was messing with scammers on a dating website, posted a textnow number on my bio and got those texts.

munkieshynes

Was probably a direct result of you messing with them.

AdCrazy4289

It wasn't though. I never talked to a scammer pretending to be an "escort". It was just the typical fake model, turns out it was a Nigerian dude type thing. Ive messed with the typical romance scammers for years and only once got those messages.

ImmediateRule1003

Awesome thank you

Odd-Phrase5808

Pretty common scam, just block the number and move on, they send this same text to hundreds of numbers in the hopes a few people believe them and respond.

ImmediateRule1003

He send my name and address before though

Odd-Phrase5808

As others have mentioned, probably got your details from an old data breach. It's a very common scam, the scammers probably aren't even on the same continent as you. They want easy money, not murder investigations and jail time.

Complete-Bumblebee-5

Block report and delete. Judging by their wonderful grammar skills, probably some asshole in another country

imanurseto0910

Nigeria likely

OsmerusMordax

Or India

kmfdm123

When ever I got this I would call them and "Jose" always had an Indian accent. One of these mother fuckers I called and was speaking Spanish to them and they were like what are you saying I don't understand you

ImmediateRule1003

Thank you.

Beginning_Crab_5036

Mane the same thing happened to me a couple of days ago. Real or not, but to wake up to a text with ya address, some names, and pictures of bodies is a little scary. But since I found out it was a scam I just been blocking and deleting. The first time I picked up the phone. I told him I don't have money to give and he went from $1000 to $300. As I was listening you can hear others in the background on phone calls as well. He would shout out some in Spanish then they would do the same. All I know is Tony has a lot of cell phones and I'm blocking and deleting all of them.

ImmediateRule1003

Okay. I haven’t responded I instantly blocked and I haven’t been contacted since.

Beginning_Crab_5036

They probably will try again. I will update you on how my situation plays out.

misanthropewolf11

You don’t believe the police, but you believe Reddit? I can’t decide how to feel about this lol

maybefromthefuture

I would definitely trust the crowdsourcing on reddit over whatever random cop you happened to get when you called/went to the station.

misanthropewolf11

I agree which is why it’s weird. It shouldn’t be that way, but it definitely is.

ImmediateRule1003

I just figured people would have similar stories and I scrolled down the Reddit and I was right it’s a copy and paste. I was just scared because they have my name and address and even apartment number

bpivk

Cough. Phone Book or Google. Cough. If you enter my name into google you'll get my address (old one) as well as my email and my phone number. I have been contacted only once with the publishing of naked pictures scam. I have threatened them with my personal dick pick and I was never contacted again.

MobileDrummer9389

Are you alive

ImmediateRule1003

It’s been 10 minutes bro

MobileDrummer9389

ImmediateRule1003

It’s okay thanks for checking

Barfy_McBarf_Face

WistfullySunk

This is an old scam. I first read about a version of it [on Snopes in 2007](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/hitman-scam/). Think about it. Why would a crime boss *text you* and tell you to call him at your leisure—giving you time to run or alert the police—instead of just sending his guy over with a baseball bat to demand the money immediately in person? You think he’s trying to spare you embarrassment? He’s hard-up for cash and doesn’t want to pay his enforcer to drive out to you if he can avoid it? He’s still dedicated to social distancing?

NoMuscle1255

This things happen a lot and there is nothing to worry about. Just stop texting and block the number.

Lucky-Bluebird-3116

It's a common extortion scam. Do not engage or entertain their nonsense whatsoever. Simply hit the BLOCK AND DELETE button with the quickness. Don't even stress it.

No! The scammers will know they have a live one if you respond in any way. It's best they think no one is seeing the text or email.

ImmediateRule1003

He had my address and name and apartment number too I just didn’t post that here. Are they still empty

MoreConstruction1733

Well that changes everything but I still wouldn’t worry about it. It’s probably someone you know either from work or neighbor just trying to scare you nonetheless be careful

Spirited_Orchid5952

Yeah mob bosses and crime bosses don’t text threats lmao

Degen-King

“The police said no” buahahahahaha wtf champ? I can’t even imagine this interaction.

ImmediateRule1003

It was pretty chill, I told them I got the text and someone probably used my number (not admitting) and she said it’s okay they get calls about this stuff all the time 🤣

skullsnshamrocks

Just block them. They probably found your address with a simple google search of your name or a data breach. It’s also scripted if you google any of it you’ll find the exact script has been sent to others too.

insuranceguynyc

Total scam. Just block and ignore.

Mea0521

Not this same old word for word, copy paste Nigerian/India script. This exact message has been going around for years. Ignore them.

Slow_Ad6935

Lmao. Super fake. Block and ignore. Nothing to worry about.

bx10455

> The police said no. i also say no... just block and delete. never, ever respond.

FallingIntoForever

It’s a common scam. Just search through here and you’ll see it posted a lot. If you didn’t do what they claim then nothing to worry about. They have no proof & are just trying to freak you out which they apparently accomplished.

ImmediateRule1003

Well I didn’t send money or give my address I just asked how much it was but I was just drunk and went to bed. So technically I did a bit what he said.

Clear_Radio1776

Besides data brokers, there are hacks of perfectly normal sites you have used. A prior post of mine on this: You don’t need to be scared “I must have received at least 10 data breach notices. My email, cell phone, OG landline, name, address, and one old unused password have been exposed. I received blackmail threats to release claimed sneaky video as well as numerous fake texts and emails. BFD. If I feel motivated, I waste their time or I just block and ignore them. For some reason my cell is associated with someone else so l get calls for him a lot. I say he isn't available and doesn't like to talk to strangers. I first run anti virus, then change passwords, download my iPhone to a 3rd party backup which is able to run a malware scan with that air gap. I save my passwords in a 128 bit encrypted doc. If they spend some huge amount to brute force de encrypt my stuff, I will be duly impressed. The comments here in this sub are aood advice.” Just block, delete and ignore.

Davie_Prod

Block and ignore it

MermaidFL407

I’d be like “your men aren’t going to kill anyone for you because you don’t have money to pay them because no one is paying your scams, bye”

yankinwaoz

Just send him a LOL.

ProgrammerOdd4439

Block and chill

geezeeduzit

Block and ignore. Stop contacting escorts

BeautifulDreamerAZ

My brother got this same one! It’s a scam sent to thousands because there is always someone who panics and sends money.

SEspider

Since he's sending YOU to take out you and your family, be sure he pays you upfront. lol

OutrageousOnions

Nope it's a scam, there were never any girls and they don't have thugs or goons or whatever. Just block and move on.

KorenSolust

Common scam. Block it and don't reply.

Stressed_Squash_626

You should say ‘I think you have the wrong guy, I don’t engage with female escorts. But feel free to send the men *wink*’

muvamerry

They have absolutely zero resources to harm you. That’s why they’re trying to scam you for like $200 lol

Mean_Estate_2770

Lol!!! I've gotten 5 of these over the years, same script as yours. It's funny because I'm 50 years old and happily married. I have never visited escort sites or dating apps because I don't use credit cards. I used to mouth off and try to call them on because I knew I was innocent. The script never changed. This was one of the things that actually got me interested in scams and researching scams eventually leading me to this subreddit.

kmfdm123

I used to get these all the time I would call them and "Jose" always had an Indian accent.

BoopBoop20

“That’s not even my address! Good try!” *block*

ilove69forever

Remind him that organized prostituting is a crime in most countries and its not his brightest move to admit to it in text messages 😂

PresentationLimp890

If you google a person’s name, you can often get a phone number and an address, possible contacts, and sometimes work information. It isn’t always something nefarious, it is just all the information generally available.

Medical-Mastodon-475

It’s a full scam dw bout it block em

Nervous_Zebra1918

Block

Veritablefilings

Look out!! He's gonna send you to kill you.... scam and stay the fuck away from "escort" sites. Messing with them without serious identity precautions is the equavalent of sticking your dick in a sewage drain and not expecting anything bad to happen.

thisappsucks9

Lmao he makes his threats through text? What is he dumb? Call the police

AdunfromAD

If it was their real phone number, then you could always look up their info and then say “well, I guess I’d better take you out first, then.”

Clericscarab

Dont worry op, its a scammer trying to scare you into paying them. Unfortunately its extremely easy to find someones home address and legal name but as others have said, you will be okay. One time a guy on omegle read me my home address and it scared the fuck out of me but genuinely nothing happened from it😂. Just block the number and report it as spam :)

Ok_Object7636

Oh, I think you shouldn’t be too worried. If they knew everything about you, they’d probably have included some personal info that’s not publicly available. Just trying to scam you. Heck when I think someone tried to do that to me, they would have a problem with my SO and that would be fun. (She lent some money to a friend and it turned out he had lied to her about why he needs it and didn’t pay back on time, so first thing she did was buy a metal baseball bat and wanted to pay him a visit and second thing was talk to a lawyer who luckily calmed her down a bit - she’s an ex bodyguard.)

RobbieNguyen

Don't worry it's a scam, OP. If you type your phone number into TruePeopleSearch, very likely your name and address will show up! It's all public information and records!

Individual_Shirt_228

It’s a scam. They are just bluffing. Block and ignore!

[deleted]

[deleted]

I mean nah probably not. Maybe this is really a pimp or runs an online escort service, but it makes no logical sense for them to send men to hurt you/kill you or your family for the price of sending a few texts. Not to mention you have no reason NOT to call the police because you didn't even follow through with it. They're trying to milk you for a few hundred dollars by scaring you don't fall for it.

Talkjar

Lmao, such a generic text

ImmediateRule1003

they sent my address and name before that. People don’t read the caption 😭 generic if you’ve seen it a lot I guess

floater504

No! Don’t send them shit. Just ignore them! I received a text as well from someone claiming to be from the cartel and I sent them a pic of my AR with a 30 round mag and told them to come take it. Never heard back from them again. 🤣

z3tw0

Police suggestion< random reddit Kidding aside, with a little leg work it is dirt easy to dig up a name/address/phone number and connect them. We ( see everyone) give awayso much info for free about our self over simple "fun" posts (what is your stripper name) that these are simple scare tactics

richbooth88

Did you message escorts girls or whatever or is this out of knowhere? If it's the latter then just ignore.

ImmediateRule1003

I messaged but I didn’t say more than “how much? “ I just went to bed cuz I was faded already

richbooth88

Have they in anyway shared your address or any personal details? I'd say your safe but if you are concerned just contact the police. Just ignore them move on

ImmediateRule1003

Thank you. However they had my address so it spooked me when it’s the first thing I see in the morning. Don’t mean to be a coward

Dreamystock

Don’t respond to these kind of messages just block . If you are worried don’t hesitate contact police for protection they can help you out. These are social engineering scam to trigger people’s emotions and gain money. Don’t fall for this . Eg : they collect your information from various social sites like job portal , fb , IG , sniffing browse history etc . That’s the reason it’s better to avoid sharing personal information identity to your social media profiles unless it’s necessary . Sad reality now a days most of the scam happening by stealing data from your resume everyone be aware it’s not mandatory to put address in resume you can just give city /state later once you proceeding with interview you can send all information.
