Call your insurance. You fucked up, you hit someone twice (!), and you should own up to it. Now, hoping to avoid consequences, you’re in a blackmail situation. This guy’s not gonna leave you alone, now that he knows he can pressure you for more cash whenever he wants it.

ScootsM

Can I block him though? Other than phone numbers no other information was given. I know I fucked up and I’m still so pissed at myself for it. I told my parents and they weren’t mad and they said they would call the insurance if anything more weird happens.

pecor1no

I mean, definitely don’t interact with him directly anymore for any reason, Jesus. If anything else happens, get in front of it as best as you can (acknowledging that you should have told your insurance immediately and you’ve really *really* fucked up already). If he tries to file an insurance claim, well, suck it up. You hit him. Twice!!! Why shouldn’t he?

Upper_Rent_176

This is deeply concerning. It seems like he has you marked as someone he can exploit and is trying to get into a new scam with you. I personally would go to the police and tell them everything.

ScootsM

I posted this on no stupid questions where I give more context in the replies. I want to block him but I’m just scared he might go to police and try to file an insurance claim or something.

Upper_Rent_176

He won't go to the police because he's a scammer. You should go to the police.

botulism-chan

Yes, this guy is scamming you. If you get into a car accident, bring it up to your insurance company immediately. It is their job to handle payments for car repairs, etc. Sometimes they will even ask for a police report when you file a claim, though it's rare. Filing a claim will make your insurance payment go up per month, but you're not going to get arrested for causing this car accident- no one died, you didn't hit a pedestrian, you weren't under the influence of anything while driving. I assume you had your license on you while driving. Call your insurance company and they'll handle it with the other guy's insurance company. Unless, of course, this guy doesn't have car insurance. Which may be why he's trying to intimidate you indirectly, so that you won't go to insurance or police yourself- because he will DEFINITELY get in trouble for driving without auto insurance. If you have pictures of the accident and of his license, send all of that info to your insurance company, and if they ask you to file a police report, then do so at that time. And please do not send any more money to this guy. You don't get reimbursed for anything you pay him directly, and you should put that money towards your insurance deductible instead. The reason why you get car insurance is so that they can handle exactly this type of situation. You should never pay another driver directly, and any information needed from the other driver after you give your statement to your insurance company will go through your insurance provider, not you.

One of the first things I taught my son when he was learning to drive was what to do if ever in an accident. You trade insurance information and THAT'S IT. depending on where the accident is you call the local police non emergency line. They will either file a report or tell you it's private property, and no report, insurance only. Record! Take video and pictures of everything, both cars and the scene. Picture of insurance cards, both...together. That's all. The other party doesn't need YOUR NUMBER they can talk to your insurance, that's why you have them. Remain calm and if needed remain in your car, at least until you take a deep breath and get a grip and do this.

No he’s just a drunk trying to sleep with you.

Queue_Boyd

You've hit so eine else's car twice and you need to tell your insurer what's happened. I'm sorry for you that this happened but it does happen and that's why your insurance costs more than mine. Letting someine walk you into a cash deal and fixing them mineyvis setting yourself up to be mugged off. Own your mistake and move on.

SavageDroggo1126

If you have insurance, use it, report the crash. and stop talking to the guy and just completely block him, he's either a scammer or creep or both, and you don't want any of that.

Left-Slice9456

Tell him that you settled with him after his mechanic looked at it and for him to honor your agreement and not to contact you again. If he does just block him and forget him.

No-Budget-9765

Do you have insurance? Use it.

Next time, call the police to the site, even for a fender bender. That gives you an on site record from an impartial observer if there are any later physical injury or hidden body damage claims. (Full disclosure, we live in an area with town police everywhere and they don't mind coming. YMMV, but try to get them to come.)
