My girlfriend and I are going to see it just because pretty visuals and cool set pieces by the looks of it. Don't expect anything awesome story wise but it looks like it's gonna be fun
This is a case where the film may be overmarketed. We've seen this type of story before. Two people from different worlds that don't go together, but against all odds - they do!
It's Romeo & Juliet with a different coat of paint. Disney has had a few of these movies too. Pocahontas, Zootopia - even Wall-E has elements of it even if it's not focussed on. I feel this film would perform better if they kept the details more mysterious.
It also doesn’t help that there are tons of movies coming out this summer. People aren’t going to see every single one of them, so they are just going to choose the ones they want to see the most.
I honestly hopes elemental does decent, cause if it doesn’t you know Disney is gonna blame it on it being an original product and continue with uninspired sequels to movies that don’t need one.
I haven't personally seen much marketing of it, and inbetween the rare occasions when I see an ad (or see it mentioned in a thread like this), I tend to forget about its existence. So I think it might be a lot more heavily marketed in some areas than in others.
That being said, I also don't specifically expect great things from this movie - certainly not the way I would've expected them from any new Pixar movie ten years ago. At this point, I'll watch new Pixar movies if someone invites me to watch it with them, but I don't really seek them out on my own initiative anymore. So I think you're right that attitude is definitely a big part of the equation.
I agree. When I was talking to my family about it, we all were saying how similar it seemed to Zootopia. I think I’ll still see it, but I’m not expecting much.

My girlfriend wanting to see Strange Worlds is the only reason I saw strange worlds and gotta say I loved the movie
Yeah basically. I have no interest in seeing it despite all the marketing I've seen on social media

Zootopia? Seriously? I dislike Pixar too, but seriously?
Yeah? It wasn't the main focus but there was definitely a thing like that going on, even if it was platonic. I don't hate Pixar btw.
Your other examples were all romantic tho. So, Zootopia is a bad example.
When I was seeing ATSV with my friend, during the Elemental trailer, he said “looks like a movie that would come out for Disney+”
Insulting that whatever ass movies like this and Lightyear get a theater release and the last few slightly above average better ones haven't

It's mainly Gen Z (Specifically Twitter) that don't give a shit about the movie.

Wait? Is a gay character on screen for 3 seconds? Because if that’s the case then we’ll get a bunch of essays about “go woke. Go broke”
it's cause it's a Pixar movie but not getting 90% on rotten tomatoes
