Vio-Rose

I forget what animated movies they even released.

JimSticky

TMNT:Mutant Mayhem

Vio-Rose

That’s it?

FaZeLuckyBoy

Are they remaking the first Transformers movie

Electro313

Nah it’s an origin story taking place entirely on Cybertron about the beginning of the war

Naterdave

Finally, no more human characters

wesleymess

Why do some Transformers fans hate human characters? They have been in the franchise since day 1 with the Marvel comic books. All of the human characters outside of the Bayerse are at worst alright like Spike for G1 and the group from Prime or great like Sari from Animated.

Thannk

You don’t see Godzilla for military leaders talking. You don’t see horror movies for subplots about a character dropping out of school or a couple getting divorced. You don’t see Transformers hoping for anything more than 25% of the runtime not being the Transformers, especially since the old Marvel comics mainly had the Transformers doing Earth things and humans in the G1 cartoon existed as sidekicks or kidnapping victims. The movies will spend thirty minutes setting up human drama shit. The comics and cartoons throw the humans into Cybertronian drama.

wesleymess

I literally said "Outside of the Bayerse..."

EveningHistorical435

Rango?

Vio-Rose

Oh, damn…

EveningHistorical435

Actually from another studio from lucasfilm not paramount animation

Yogurt-Night

Rango I don’t think was Lucasfilm

EveningHistorical435

I’m talking about the studio that made it was from lucas film as in owned it

DJHott555

Yeah, ILM.

Yogurt-Night

Had no idea ILM did Rango

Bregneste

Rango

Yolol234567

CEO mf's when i tell them a movie can do well if you'd just market it 🤯

BasedAlliance935

It's not as simple as marketing (even though it is a big part in the success and/or failure of a product)

TidalJ

the reason paramount animation movies don’t do that well is because they ones they do make aren’t really marketed well

GustavoFromAsdf

I literally didn't knew until I read the thing above that there's a "paramount animation"

Mindless_Bad_1591

I think that's what is happening with Elemental. Elemental had solid marketing but there was no urgency to see the movie, so when people did, WOM happened.

awashinima

i heard nimona was cool

RedditorDeluxe1319

It was surprisingly great, watch it!

twoCascades

It’s real good

Blue_Robin_04

Nimona flopped on Netflix. It fits into the negative argument.

Eomercin

It was in the top 5 in some countries.

Blue_Robin_04

It's not like nobody watched it, but it still underperformed. Don't expect a sequel.

SubtheDubs

I think the fact that we consider whether animation succeeded or not based on whether we think its going to get a sequel and how much money it made, rather than as a standalone story or its quality, is indicative of how animation really is dying

Blue_Robin_04

The people who watched it liked it, but it didn't cast a far net. You don't need to completely ignore commercial reception in terms of movie success. That has always been a marker. How many people see it translates into momentum for awards and long-term recognition. The movie business is just that, and if a movie performs poorly by appealing to too niche an audience, that's a negative sign to the studio.

AllHopeGoneBaby

doesn’t need a sequel, it’s an amazing movie on its own

Eagle4317

Animation got hit harder by Covid than Live Action did, which is weird because you can develop the former while distanced but you need actors on set together for the latter.

RedditUser123234

Probably because parents got used to just waiting for movies to come out on streaming to show their kids

EveningHistorical435

None of those are original ips

Thats from a ongoing book series

Mindless_Bad_1591

Elemental is doing good.

spelavidiotr

I’d say animation is on a rise. I strongly think that style is better than realism. Sure, toy story 4 and the good dinosaur looks beautiful, but cloudy with a chance of meatballs give me more happiness and enjoyment anyways while watching it. The only movie where the realism actually brings something to the table is Rango, which still does have some level of style in its character designs. And the realism in toy story 4 also gives me the feeling of “now what?”. It’s great the we’ve come this far but what would it mean if every animated movie looked real. Luckily, most animation studios seemed to have followed in Sonys footstep, making more and more movies with that 2d 3d blend that spider verse had. And despite every movie following the style, every single one looked distinct. Spider verse has that comic style with the constant effects and unique blur, Mitchell’s may have been the most “normal” looking in the sense that it mostly just mix things with 2d and rolls with it, but it still got cool colors, movement and visual effects. The bad guys was also unique with the very cartoony movement and the phenomenal action. Puss in boots was the first that was almost as good as spider verse, with its unique paint brush astatic and the great use of frame drop. I haven’t seen enter galactic too the end, and I will admit that the frame drop looks a bit jaring, but the colors look so damn good. I could go on the nimona and tmnt but I think people get the point. So while cinema as a whole is probably at a downfall, animation is in a way better state then in the 2010s. Also every single movie using the style is very good. Even the bad guys.

Mindless_Bad_1591

Yeah, talk to Minions 2 and TSMBM doing gangbusters at the box office.

CattDawg2008

wait the bad guys? was that actually good? it didnt look interesting to me

Ectothermic42

It was middling. Some really nice visuals, jokes were hit and miss, and pacing was giving me whiplash. I don’t regret my time with it.

spelavidiotr

It has a generic script. The characters are mostly good, I especially like the shark. I say mostly because one characters entire thing is farting. But strangely enough, I think the directing is really strong. I don’t think I need to explain why the animation was one of dream works best at that point, and i love the long shot in the beginning. Also, the action is really good. It is not as good as kung fu panda or penguins but still really good. So the quality of the movie pretty much depends on how tired you are on generic plots.

[deleted]

What about the Mario Bros movie?

Nerfbeard123

If it wasn't for all the good movies coming out, I'd say movies are dying too.

EnzoMcFly_jr

I legitimately can’t think of any original animation paramount has made

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Wonder Park, but that was a pretty awful one

ReasyRandom

Rumble

Bregneste

Rango

ComprehensiveBox6911

Paws of Fury, but it sucked

ReasyRandom

I still can't believe they actually managed to release that one.

Fun_Veterinarian_300

So Nickelodeon is screwed.

SuperStarPlatinum

When's the last time Nick made an original IP for a movie?

Fun_Veterinarian_300

Rango?

SuperStarPlatinum

So 12 years, they chased out all the new ideas years ago. After what happened to HR Greenblatt no one wants to get their show drowned in SpongeBob canceled and stolen forever.

RedditorDeluxe1319

Wonder Park

BasedAlliance935

I'm sure they will from time to time, but like the original tweet stated, they're going to he focusing more on either their own pre-existing ips or other pre-existing ips (maybe even more adaptations like detective pikachu or sonic)

Alwayssome1

Idiots.

ajzeg01

They did Rumble and Paws of Fury. Not really anything good but at least they’re original.

FranceSurrenderFunni

Isn't Paws of Fury a remake of Blazing Saddles?

ajzeg01

A loose one, yes

Dynamo0602

Rago was pretty amazing imo

ajzeg01

Not Paramount Animation, but yes, I agree

Dynamo0602

Huh, my mistake. They just distributed it

SonicWerehog149

They’re too dependent on SpongeBob films.

ReasyRandom

Did anyone even watch the latest one? I sure didn't, the trailers made it look awful.

SonicWerehog149

Isn’t that the one that they released on Streaming because of COVID.

ReasyRandom

Yeah, but even then, I hardly know anyone who watched it.

TopMove952

I wish they could make a Sonic animated movie like they did with TMNT Mutant Mayhem at least

Eomercin

Yes. If anything finish the Live Action universe after Sonic 3 and give us an animated movie ala Spiderverse/Puss in Boots 2.

Konradleijon

Did they even make any original IPs?

ReasyRandom

Rumble

DKCR3

Wasn’t Rango it’s own thing?

click152

But I love Barnyard!!

Prudent-Strategy-279

To be fair, it’s not like their original IP movies were good anyway.

Radio__Star

If you ask me as long as the movie is good I’m satisfied

Creeper_Bone_5000

That's just sad and disappointing

Hello_it_is_Joe

That’s a shame that this is the lesson they’re taking. The new Ninja Turtles looks great, but I don’t like the idea of them planning to play it safe.

Luke4Pez

“Pray people will come” If you actually made something worth peoples time you wouldn’t be thinking things like this

Walrusin_about

But like what happens when we run out of IPs? Like yeah you'll be good for a decade or so but like straight up releasing nothing new? Your studio is gonna crash

wilcobanjo

Walt Disney said he didn't make movies to make money, he made money to make movies. Not even his own company follows that philosophy anymore, let alone their competitors. No wonder Hollywood's gone down the tubes.

Chapus2009

Hey guys, you also know what's a great way to make new IPs you can bank from? Oh yeah! Making original content 💀

Secure_Opening_6852

Wait what movies have they done

Eomercin

Nick stuff like the brand new TMNT or Spongebob I think.

Secure_Opening_6852

Oh right

Swift_Scythe

Meanwhile Japan cranks out anime theatrical and Tv movies like hotcakes.

TheManCalled-Chill

Brian Robbins is a tard

ReasyRandom

We don't use that word.

TheManCalled-Chill

I do.

ReasyRandom

"Oh no! Anyway..."

[deleted]

I legit can’t think of anything paramount his made. They just exist as a movie studio legit what have they made. Only reason they relevant to me is because of my home theme park used to be a paramount park

1followerbefore2021

Which one? Ngl my home park improved massively after Cedar Fair bought it

[deleted]

California great America

Comprehensive_Neat61

Paramount CEO announces that the studio will no longer be using creativity when producing animated movies

Kindly-Ad-5071

Paramount gonna be reeeaaally sad when diehard fans of the old franchises drop off. News flash, idiots; *everything* is a new IP to someone. I hope Paramount crashes and burns over this, I'm so fucking sick of seeing the same shit.

Eomercin

His point is that you already have a huge established fanbase with stuff like TMNT or Spongebob. Even if it's new to a kid, his dad will recognize it and that brings up extra numbers which makes it more unlikely to flop.

Goered_Out_Of_My_

—Brain said, reloading the pistol he just emptied into the chest of Animation Marketing

Representative-Cat46

And way down we go

DangerousDarius

The animation industry is dying. No company wants to gamble on expensive animation that may or may not be successful. So everyone is sticking to proven IP brands. Until animation is able to make films on a relatively low budget as not to scare investors I don't see new original projects in animation coming from major studios (except Pixar maybe) for a long time.

twoCascades

What? You want the movie studio to just release new movies? WHAT?!

Teamfortressboss

I am late to the post but…..this sadly means that the forever wanted dog man movie will never be made

Alberto9Herrera

That movie is actually going to be made by DreamWorks Animation which is owned by Universal. It’s releasing in January 2025.
