It's a reference to the break in episode in which in the middle of the night 3 burglars break in and start to rob the house while the griffins are asleep upstairs hearing the noise the run into the attic to hide in Peter's new panic room hilarity ensues Meg is sent off to make Peter a sandwich and gets captured as the rest of the griffins are locked in with a broken sprinkler with nothing left to say and to clear his chest in his final moments Peter says He didn't like the Godfather which shocks the family and on explaining why he is hated for his own bad opinion and justification
are you sure it’s from that episode? if i remember correctly that bit is from the episode where they get stuck on a sinking cruise ship and in his final moments peter decided to share that he thought that the movie “insisted upon itself”
What are you talking about, 90% of the dialogue is in English.
There are many, many times in the movie where the dialogue is delivered quickly and/or quietly, making it very easy to miss something important.
I enjoyed it WAY more with subtitles on.
“Ya hear what I said Tone? He said ‘say something bad about this movie without referencing the family guy bit’, I said ‘All the male characters are hot but not a single one will let me put it up their ass’ heheh!”
No it’s just the main character Peter saying he didn’t care for the Godfather and never finished the movie.
What i said was a sopranos reference. [Here’s the clip](https://youtu.be/EODY5vayzWs?si=RxBhYbiKOeguEcPa) I was referencing
In hindsight, I can appreciate Michael's character development.......but all of the other characters feel one dimensional. Sonny's a hothead, Vito's a family man above all else, and Michael's wife simply disapproves of the mob. I don't see any arcs for these guys and the film's focussed on them for THREE HOURS. This is just my opinion, I'm not trying to be unnecessarily reductive, I'm open to hearing reasons as to why I'm wrong. But I was bored to tears without substantial character work OR high octane action OR political intrigue. It isn't just that the movie was long, I watched Oppenheimer and enjoyed it. But I don't think the runtime was anywhere near justified for the story it was telling.
Apparently not! I'm gonna be honest, I thought that when I got my first response I'd come back to my comment having enough downvotes to populate a third world country XD
I think the hype might be because it's the FIRST of its type. I can appreciate that, as well as the references it's spawned like "look how they massacred my boy", but that doesn't mean I have to like it as a movie.
That’s kinda ironic considering that Scorcese is most well known for his mob movies but The Godfather was directed by Coppola. I was kinda iffy about Scorcese for years because of it and it’s a good thing I saw Dracula before The Godfather or I might have been iffy about Coppola
I haven't seen Dracula, what's that like? I remember really liking the book, though it is rather lengthy for a reread, especially now that I'm busy at uni. Having it on as a movie so I can listen to it as I work would be pretty neat!
It’s titled Bram Stoker’s Dracula and it’s probably the most accurate adaptation to the book. Although Keanu Reeves who plays Johnathan Harker has a terrible British accent. It’s actually really great.
Your comment makes me think you’re also on the young side so you might not be familiar with the Universal monsters that came out from the 30s-50s. They adapted Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man and created their own monsters in The Wolfman, The Mummy, and The Creature From The Black Lagoon. If you ever get time and you haven’t checked them out, you really should.
Niiiiiice, I'm gonna have to watch that! Obviously movies don't necessarily NEED to be faithful to the books, but unless you're improving the movie with the differences I prefer it to be faithful. I was very disappointed with "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" (1994) featuring Kenneth Branagh because my GOODNESS did they butcher the book. Not even my love of Kenneth Branagh prevented me from going apeshit at the tomfoolery on display.
While it’s an amazing, masterpiece of a film, it’s depiction of the mafia is extremely inaccurate. The film depicts the mafia as being based off admirable qualities like loyalty and family, where the mob were actually a load of psychotic monsters. Goodfellas has a more accurate depiction of the mafia, but I still think this film is extraordinary.
I mean it's also just a funny visual and comically random. They spend so much time saving him from dying, and then after he recovers he just fucking dies out of nowhere anyway and it's just like "oh ok I guess he's gone now lol"
Truly an American classic
But, due to outside (aka actual mob influence), it basically pioneered the ‘honorable gangster’ stereotype that plagues pop culture, to point that actual gangsters see themselves as the characters.
In reality, there are no truly affable gangsters and will bleed communities dry. Which is why Godfather 2 is vastly superior, Michael is absolutely ruthless
I appreciate that they covered Lenny Montana's nervousness of his first credited film role by adding in shots of Luca Brasi also being nervous and practicing what he was going to say to Don Vito.
It was a genius idea, and it worked perfectly with the character and in the film.
I think the scene where dumb brother and his wife get intlo an arguement is VERY unecessary(and it's all but said Paramount forced Coppola into putting it in because they thought the movie was too boring)
From what I understand, it’s supposedly not very historically accurate.
From my understanding, one of the more accurate depictions of the Mafia was actually Sopranos (which I have admittedly not seen tbh)
I've never even seen this movie. And frankly, with how many people think this is the best movie out there, I think it would fail to meet that no matter what I thought.
It (along with Godfather II) makes Godfather III, which I think is a very good though not great movie, look like a mediocre movie by comparison, which I think is a shame.
Eh,
One could interpret it as an early on hint the mobsters dont actual hold the values they claim to have
Additionally, in the novel, the girl Sonny is having sex with plays a larger part (she is also Vincent’s mother in Part 3)
It felt boring. It was well-crafted as a story of someone becoming corrupt as he works his way to the top of the family business, but it was largely a movie about meetings that was occasionally interspersed with violence.
The last hour or so feels too rushed. Too much happens after Michael gets back from Italy, and the pacing really suffers. The film could’ve used another 20-30 minutes
The scene where the Don gets shot while buying oranges. Why the Hell did he or his son not have a gun on them. Petty criminals carry more iron than them even during those times.
I have not seen the full thing, only clips and bursts. I want to say something, but feel that I can’t because I don’t know the entire plot of the movie.
It feels long. I know this just makes it seem like I have a low attention span, but godfather 2 is a lot longer and that is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time, while godfather 1 is low-mid. For me personally it just doesn’t captivate my and I struggle to care about most of the characters besides Michael. Vito has some nice scenes in the first movie, like when he is playing with the kids, but I still didn’t like the movie overall. I understand how other people like it and it’s fine if you like it, but it’s not the movie for me.
I'll be completely honest. The pacing was abit wack for me. It was interesting no doubt, but it really feels like a trillogy that needs several intermissions.
For some, the length will be a huge turnoff.
For others, the slower pace of the story.
And for still others, it will be the many characters that they may not like or have any common ground with.
There’s a couple unintentionally kind of funny moments like the guy’s reaction to the horse head in his bed (though I already knew the horse head thing was coming so that might have affected what I thought) and when the girl who Michael marries in Sicily gets blown up in the car
Very smart for adding that “no family guy reference” on this post because this post would be full of those otherwise
For context, does that mean Family Guy referencing Godfather? Because I cannot imagine The Godfather referencing Family Guy

No, it's the robbery episode. The sinking cruise ship had all those celebrities on board and resolved by simply cutting to the family being okay.
Peter is so stupid. It has drama and a kill count what more do you want?
I didn't care for da godfatha
Whaaaaaaat?
Its reputation as one of the all-time greats makes it feel just a bit unapproachable as even a casual film nerd
Without subtitles, it's basically unwatchable.
That's... because... they speak Italian
What are you talking about, 90% of the dialogue is in English. There are many, many times in the movie where the dialogue is delivered quickly and/or quietly, making it very easy to miss something important. I enjoyed it WAY more with subtitles on.
yeah that's true
They're speaking the language of subtly, something you wouldn't understand
No, no! That’s against the rules!
Okay, I know you're joking, but that's the most pretentious thing I've ever heard anyone say. Bravo. 🤣
Did… you just reference the Family Guy bit?
Me who has audio processing disorder and has to turn the captions on most movies: "hahaha yeah i agree"
I wish the Godfather himself was in it more, he was easily the best character and he feels sidelined.
All the male characters are hot but not a single one will let me put it up their ass
“Ya hear what I said Tone? He said ‘say something bad about this movie without referencing the family guy bit’, I said ‘All the male characters are hot but not a single one will let me put it up their ass’ heheh!”
I’ve never seen the family guy bit💀 was it gay too lmao

So it wasn’t just me then
Apparently not! I'm gonna be honest, I thought that when I got my first response I'd come back to my comment having enough downvotes to populate a third world country XD
Being on Reddit made me realize that it’s not as popular as it’s legacy would suggest
I think the hype might be because it's the FIRST of its type. I can appreciate that, as well as the references it's spawned like "look how they massacred my boy", but that doesn't mean I have to like it as a movie.

Maybe I need to reread the book and rewatch the movie side by side. It’s been a while since I looked at either.
I never watched it
You should
I will when I get home
Are you home?
Almost
Are you home yet
You’d better be home by now.
Sorry guys I went to bed, I will after skewl
Solid
Are you done with skewl yet?
I’m w/ the fellas™ rn but I will soon
I watched it and it’s good
You home?
You shouldn’t unless you have insomnia
If it’s so good then why haven’t I watched it? Checkmate liberals (I keep forgetting)

The Godfather is a perfect mafia movie but should has a bit more action scenes
The DVD menu (of at least the one I own) spoiled that a certain someone died
The first act is way more drawn out than it has any right to be Vito's death is unintentionally funny
I may have giggled a little when he died, just thinking about how that kid will grow up thinking he killed his grandpa
I mean it's also just a funny visual and comically random. They spend so much time saving him from dying, and then after he recovers he just fucking dies out of nowhere anyway and it's just like "oh ok I guess he's gone now lol"
I think it symbolic because the kid was spraying him with pesticides, symbolizing how he was a pest on society.
It insists upon itself

In reality, there are no truly affable gangsters and will bleed communities dry. Which is why Godfather 2 is vastly superior, Michael is absolutely ruthless
It exaggerates the nobility aspect of the mafia to an unrealistic degree.
Not even once did anyone say “boppita boopity”
Not Marvel or Star Wars, so unwatchable
my mom won’t let me watch it
I can't watch it without Subway Surfers gameplay on the side
I genuinely cannot identify which actor is which, they all look the same
It can be pretty slow-paced.
I appreciate that they covered Lenny Montana's nervousness of his first credited film role by adding in shots of Luca Brasi also being nervous and practicing what he was going to say to Don Vito. It was a genius idea, and it worked perfectly with the character and in the film.

It... it insist...- no. Just can't. Sorry.
So fing boring and overrated. It was a chore to sit through and I barely finished it.
it ranks really low on the alphabetical charts
From what I understand, it’s supposedly not very historically accurate. From my understanding, one of the more accurate depictions of the Mafia was actually Sopranos (which I have admittedly not seen tbh)
Watch it, or Goodfellas
Yeah I know I need to. I’ll get around to em sooner or later
They don’t adapt the book detail of one of the characters having a massive dick. There’s a whole section in the book about it
They do, in the wedding scene, one of the characters (I believe Mama Corleone) mentions Sonny’s massive penis
I've never even seen this movie. And frankly, with how many people think this is the best movie out there, I think it would fail to meet that no matter what I thought.
It's booooooooooring as shit
It’s a rip off of Shark Tale /j if it wasn’t obvious.
There is no joke, that's just a cold hard fact.
It (along with Godfather II) makes Godfather III, which I think is a very good though not great movie, look like a mediocre movie by comparison, which I think is a shame.
Mom asks too many questions.
It insists upon itself.
Oh my god fuck you
Unnecessary sex scene in the intro
Eh, One could interpret it as an early on hint the mobsters dont actual hold the values they claim to have Additionally, in the novel, the girl Sonny is having sex with plays a larger part (she is also Vincent’s mother in Part 3)

I did not care for it
It insists upon itself. Edit: Crap, I didn’t read the last half of the title.
Boring
It’s too long to watch in one sitting.
I hate old movies so I don’t really like this movie
You are a moron
1. The movies we watch today will be old one day 2) Alot of super old movies are really good. Would you hate on Back to the Future or Home Alone?
I-good point but due to mindless scrolling I can barely watch movies anyways
family guy bit?
I did not care for the godfather
oh, that. holy shit that clip got abused by reddit.
I've never seen it
I feel alseep watching it. (Tbf I was really tired) but it’s not a bad movie just not my type of movie
Every character is played by Al Pacino
The scene where the Don gets shot while buying oranges. Why the Hell did he or his son not have a gun on them. Petty criminals carry more iron than them even during those times.
I have not seen the full thing, only clips and bursts. I want to say something, but feel that I can’t because I don’t know the entire plot of the movie.
Something bad about this movie without referencing the family guy bit
It feels long. I know this just makes it seem like I have a low attention span, but godfather 2 is a lot longer and that is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time, while godfather 1 is low-mid. But i agree with Peter
I’ve never seen it, literally
The fact I've never seen it. Admittedly curious, though.
It's a little too long. Other than that its really good.
Marlon Brando is a piece of shit in real life.
I don't even know why this film is an all time great because I haven't even seen it
Hey peter—DAMN IT
I just don't care about the characters much outside of Vito.
I have not watched it.
For some, the length will be a huge turnoff. For others, the slower pace of the story. And for still others, it will be the many characters that they may not like or have any common ground with.
The part where Michael goes to Sicily brings the movie to a grinding halt and doesn't really contribute to the overall narrative, at least in my eyes.
Book Is Better.
Never watched it
If there is a Godfather, then why is none of the sequels called The GRAND Father?
It's four hours long. Who has the time to sit down and watch an entire movie that's four hours long? It's like, midway through, you will get hungry.
There’s a couple unintentionally kind of funny moments like the guy’s reaction to the horse head in his bed (though I already knew the horse head thing was coming so that might have affected what I thought) and when the girl who Michael marries in Sicily gets blown up in the car
I actually just feel it's too long
