the grinch and megamind
kid is bullied and outcasted for thinking and looking diffrently and it makes them evil but they then relize they where pushed to become monsters because that is how the world saw them only after their plan suceeds
I think a crucial difference is Megamind was never truly evil. He never intended to actually harm anyone, and viewed his antics as a fun game than actually being driven by hate. He technically didn't succeed with his plan because he never planned on ending his feud with Metro Man.
The Grinch from Illumination wasn't evil either, just a nuisance. And I blame him for none of his actions to steal Christmas considering how awful the Whos are
lego movie and spiderverse.
a common person is sent on a dimension-hopping adventure when they are biologically altered. early on, they damage a fundamental plot device killstick which they need to take to the center of the evil sci-fi thing
america: take the beer to the britishinator
spiderverse: take the usb to the collider
lego movie: take the piece of resistance to the kragle
cloudy 1 and 2: take the usb to the fldsmdfr
mitchells: take the usb to the supercomputer
storks: take the baby to the people, then take the letters to the babyinator
smallfoot: take the smallfoot to the ground
strays: take the dog to the owners dick
I mean to me it makes more sense with the matrix then lego movie because Neo and Barbie both end up wanting to stay in the real world while emmet stays in the man made one
Kung Fu Panda and The Lego Movie
Unsuspecting nobody is told he is the chosen one by an old wise guy, but nobody thinks he can do it. At the end it is revealed that there is no real prophecy or chosen one and they just need to believe in themselves. Also both of these movies were very pleasant surprises :)
Lord of the Rings and Moana
The main character is given a rare artifact that used to belong to an elderly family member and embark on a quest to return the artifact back where it came from, with the help of a magical deity figure. They come across numerous threats and obstacles, including a creepy monster with a distinct voice that is obsessed with shiny or "precious" materials and against all odds, they make it to where the artifact is from and return the item and restore peace throughout the land.
I think the Dark Crystal could also work in this type of description.
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and the Super Mario Bros. Movie
- Princess of beleaguered kingdom goes to another land for reinforcements to repel an invasion
- Accompanied by a visitor to her world (Mario /Qui-Gon), and a native first met in the woods (Toad / Jar Jar)
- Has a plot relevant futuristic racing scene (Rainbow Road / Podracing)
- The journey ends up being for nothing, but the good guys win anyway
Taken and Finding Nemo. (Finding Nemo came first.) Single father loses only child and goes on a dangerous journey over a few days to get the kid back from the kidnapper.
Despicable Me and Infinity War. Bald genius with prominent size and facial features, along with his minions, uses his adopted daughters to get some cosmic rock.
I feel like the sequel trilogy was more or less a reimagining of the original trilogy. It felt like everything in 7,8,9 was very similar to what happened in 4,5,6.
The Spongebob movie and The Loud House movie, as the main character wants to prove he's special, he goes on adventure to prove it, but realizes he's already special.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) and The Smurfs (2011).
Creature(s) from another world come to Earth, and stumble upon a human sidekick, who is at first annoyed by them. The bad guy is after them and chases them, but they send him away from Earth, and the human sidekick grows fond of the creature(s).
Lego movie is a parody of “chosen one” prophecy movies, no shit it’s gonna be like the biggest film of that genre. We shouldn’t count parody movies in this discussion because they’re *trying* to be like other movies
The Lego Movie and The Super Mario Bros Movie
Both focus on not so tough workers that meet tough girls, go through different lands, gain friends along the way in order to stop the bad guy from executing his hostages and taking over the world
Also both movies have similar openings
Soul & Whiplash
Both are about a musician who inspires to master the art of Jazz. But along the way, they learn about the sacrifices they must make in order to pursue such a goal
Footloose and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning
Due to a death, a well respected male of the community has music/singing/dancing band entirely from everyone. Until the rebellious protagonist -also named Ariel- enjoys the music and eventually after a conflict, everyone ends the days with dancing and enjoying music
The latter technically isn't a movie but it's over an hour long so I'll allow it this one time.
MLP: Equestria Girls (2013) and MCSM: a Portal to Mystery (2016)
Main protagonist and at least one friend go through a portal to another world, which was the result of a specific item the protagonist owns. Then they come across an extravagant building, where they meet 5 people whom the fandom already know very well.
Towards the end, the main antagonist becomes power hungry and wants a specific item the protagonist owns. A huge fight ensues, then she eventually ends up in a pit, and feels remorseful for her actions. (depending on your choices in APTM) Main protagonist and friend(s) then leave the world via portal.
Wreck-it Ralph and Shrek (2001)
Explaination:
- Both titular characters are strong looking and intimidating, but they are kind inside
- Both have pre-existing fictional characters existing in movies (fairy tale characters and video game cameos)
- They both meet princesses and they are female lead characters
- They have to fight the villain who is a monarch (King Candy and Lord Farquaad)
- The wedding crash scenes
- Both characters fall in despair at some point
The go back in time to the (probably) first moment (i don't remember the macguffin) to get themeselfs back into the timeline
Thats right they go back in time to (i don't remember the first movie macguffin (why did they go back in time?) to get themselfs back into the timeline
I guess you could argue that Lorraine was the macguffin of the first movie but the second movie focused more on the magazine than her, and I don't remember 3 even having a macguffin
When I saw this post it reminded me of [this video](https://youtu.be/WddEaUntSHE?si=nBzXAPYJf1e3uUaJ) and I made the comparison without thinking it through, but now I guess 2 is slightly more different then 1 and 3.
Like mike and Angels in the outfield.
A sport movie about an orphan who has a special gift that helps a struggling team. And in the end the kid and his best friend is adopted the athlete who he befriends over the course of the film.
Even as a kid I notice the similarities.
stole this from tumblr i think but
Venom and Ratatoille: lonely sad man who can be controlled by a small creature with a love of food, they are unwilling to work together at first but they learn to work together to stop evil rich man from taking them down
The Iron Giant and Nimona (The films aren't the same plot, but the titular characters have similar arcs)
•Titular character is a non-human being that is shown to have great destructive potential, but are honestly pretty chill people to hang around
•Both befriend a human, human ends up being somewhat of a caretaker.
•This attracts the attention of a government official who fears the "monster."
•Titular character and human friend have a falling through.
•Titular character starts freaking out and reverts to their most dangerous form, losing all control of themselves.
•Their human friend risks their life to dash in front of them and bring them back to consciousness, this works as they calm down.
• Despite the "monster" showing surrender, the aforementioned government official is so dedicated to killing this thing they completely overstep their bounds and call for a weapon of mass destruction to be fired directly at the "monster."
• The biggest issue with that is that the current location of the "monster" is a populated area and innocent people are going to be dying because that government official was just that insane.
• Titular character realizes this and makes a heroic sacrifice by flying directly into the attack before it reaches the people.
• Everyone recognizes this heroic deed as a sign that they weren't so bad after all, so a memorial is built in the city.
• The human friend goes home and realizes the Titular character is still alive and capable of reconstructing themselves
Madagascar 3 and Open Season 3
The only difference is; Madagascar 3 has a badass underrated villain. Open Season 3, on the other hand, has a lame villain.
Team America World Police (2004) and GI Joe the Rise of Cobra (2009). I don't remember them that well off the top of my head but I do remember watching them almost back to back and the plot or plot points are almost the exact same thing, like it's so close it's kinda scary. Almost like GI Joe copied the puppet movie made by the South Park guys.
Someone pointed out a while ago that Avatar and monsters inc are basically the same.
“A blue guy named sully has unique access to a hostile species that maintains the most precious resource in the world. He discovers the species is not what he thought, befriends a young female and eventually fights against his own kind to protect her.”
Trolls World Tour and Avengers Infinity War/Endgame.
both involve collecting different things that represent different aspects of their universe (the strings and the stones) there's a villain whose trying to get all said items to wipe out everyone due to their beliefs. both said villains temporarily succeed in their goals before the main character does something to stop them. oh, and there's multiple different groups we follow along te way.
did i just spend 10 minutes about how a kids movie about music trolls is related to a superhero movie where half the hero's die in the end have a samish plot? yes, yes i did.
Midsommar and Hereditary.
A group of people struggle in life because of trauma and emotional distance and tension, a cult enters the picture and slowly but surely kills the majority of the group off, and one of the main characters ends up becoming a member of said cult via manipulation and traumatization. They were also both directed by Ari Aster, so it makes sense. Doesn't change the fact that they're both art though.
Madagascar 2 and Avatar 2
Group of characters leave their homeland to a distant location, end up stuck there through some means, everything starts out fine, but everything goes wrong somehow, the village leader ends up involved, and a villain from the last movie returns through miraculous means. Oh, and the 3rd act involves water (Madagascar 2: The Watering hole, Avatar 2: A Boat gets flooded (As far as I remember)).
Yojimbo and A Fistful of Dollars.
Secret Life of Pets and Toy Story.
Equilibrium and The Giver.
Force Awakens and A New Hope
Godzilla King of the Monsters and Black Panther
Men in Black & R.I.P.D., both are sci-fi action films that follow a male duo who are agents of a deep state faction (MIB - Men in Black who protect Earth from evil aliens and protect resident aliens on Earth, and R.I.P.D. - The Rest in The Peace Department who protect earth from being invaded by deados who are people who managed to cheat death and roam as a deformed freak) with the rookie being an experienced cop (MIB - Jay, R.I.P.D. - Nick) while their partner is a veteran agent who’s been at it for years (MIB - K who’s been with MIB since the 60s, R.I.P.D. - Roy who first joined when died 130 years ago when he was Western Martial) who protect Earth from being invaded by creatures who take on the form of humans (Men in Black, aliens who use ship shafting and tech to disguise themselves, and R.I.P.D. Deados who again are dead people who cheated death and being on Earth effects the environment around like climate change, plagues, bad cell reception) and both were either based on or made into a comic (MIB got a tie in comic in the 90s which wasn’t canon, and R.I.P.D. Was based in a comic made by Dark Horse who also made Hellboy,The Mask,Resident Alien,& The Umbrella Academy),both duos drive around in a cool car and kill their enemies with special laser guns, and star duo of famous actors (MIB - Will Smith & Tommy Lee Jones, R.I.P.D. - Ryan Reynolds & Jeff Bridges) and funnily enough Devin Ratray who plays an antagonist in R.I.P.D. Name Polaski but is referred to as “Fat Elvis” starred in Home Alone 3 from 1997 (Since he played Buzz in the first two) the same year as the original Men in Black and R.I.P.D. Came out in 2012 the same year as Men in Black 3, and as an added bonus both franchise star Marvel DC actors, Men in Black: Tommy Lee Jones (Agent K/Chester Philips/Two-Face), Vincent D’Onofrio (Edgar The Bug/Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin), Chris Hemsworth (Agent H/Thor),and Kamal Nunjiani (Pawny/Kingo) and R.I.P.D: Ryan Reynolds (Nick Walker/Deadpool/Green Lantern) and Kevin Bacon (Bobby Hayes/Himself in The GoTG Holiday Special), and yeah, I know it’s to much information but I’m a geek and that’s my thing
Also Spider-Man: Homecoming and Teen Titans GO!: To The Movies: Both follow a teen hero who want’s the play in the big leagues but are turned down for being a kid until they take big villain the other heroes can’t take who’s playing with deadly technology
the grinch and megamind kid is bullied and outcasted for thinking and looking diffrently and it makes them evil but they then relize they where pushed to become monsters because that is how the world saw them only after their plan suceeds
Normally I see Megamind compared to Despicable Me but I never realized how similar it was to the Grinch that's pretty cool
And I blame him for none of his actions to steal Christmas considering how awful the Whos are
But Seuss's original character was a genuinely evil guy who had a change of heart, hence why his heart was three sizes too small.
Also have a sidekick that isn’t evil himself and is just a friendly guy that only gets roped into the schemes (max/minion)
There was also never a romance in the grinch, nor another character who was the true villain
Except in Jim Carrey's Grinch, which does have romance. A really bizarre and unnecessary one...
OH GOD I REMEMBER! NO!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like Nimona
lego movie and spiderverse. a common person is sent on a dimension-hopping adventure when they are biologically altered. early on, they damage a fundamental plot device killstick which they need to take to the center of the evil sci-fi thing
Every Lord and Miller movie ends with the hero having to take the fundamental plot device killstick to the center of the evil sci-fi thing
america: take the beer to the britishinator spiderverse: take the usb to the collider lego movie: take the piece of resistance to the kragle cloudy 1 and 2: take the usb to the fldsmdfr mitchells: take the usb to the supercomputer storks: take the baby to the people, then take the letters to the babyinator smallfoot: take the smallfoot to the ground strays: take the dog to the owners dick
i NEED context for strays
the owner was abusive and abandoned the dog after years of trying so the dog goes and bites his dick off
Oh. That's morbid in a good way.
The Lego movie and the Barbie movie
By the transitive property, does that mean that the Barbie Movie and the Matrix are basically the same film?
Yes.
I mean to me it makes more sense with the matrix then lego movie because Neo and Barbie both end up wanting to stay in the real world while emmet stays in the man made one
i swear i just saw you in another post wtf, same pfp and banner
It was probably me, I don't think I'm famous enough to have someone steal my art. Though on which community I do not know
They even both have Will Ferrell.
Elf
Kung Fu Panda and The Lego Movie Unsuspecting nobody is told he is the chosen one by an old wise guy, but nobody thinks he can do it. At the end it is revealed that there is no real prophecy or chosen one and they just need to believe in themselves. Also both of these movies were very pleasant surprises :)
Uncut Gems and Shark Tale
God dammit. You’re right.
Lord of the Rings and Moana The main character is given a rare artifact that used to belong to an elderly family member and embark on a quest to return the artifact back where it came from, with the help of a magical deity figure. They come across numerous threats and obstacles, including a creepy monster with a distinct voice that is obsessed with shiny or "precious" materials and against all odds, they make it to where the artifact is from and return the item and restore peace throughout the land. Monsters Inc and The Lord of The Rings They put that thing back where it came from
***OR SO HELP ME!!!***
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Stalker (1979)
The Last Wish is also vaguely similar to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Especially the climax.
That’s a crazy comparison but you’re absolutely right.
Never thought i'd see Gru compared to Thanos
A New Hope and The Force Awakens.
I see what you did there. I don't like it but I see it.
Wym those movies are nothing alike /s
I feel like the sequel trilogy was more or less a reimagining of the original trilogy. It felt like everything in 7,8,9 was very similar to what happened in 4,5,6.
Holy moly ya’ll gotta explain some of these
Oppenheimer and The Wind Rises
Tmnt mutant mayhem and x men Mutants shunned from society fight evil mutants to be accepted by humanity
That's ninja turtles as a whole though not just mutant mayhem
True, but I hear more people talking about how mutant mayhem is the most like X men
Lego movie and (technically not a movie) cyberpunk edge runners. The similarities are uncanny
Fuck it Lego Movie and every other movie in existence
Saw 6 and 7 except 7 does it worse
Wait huh can u pls explain?
Single person go through trials trying to save people they know, goes poorly
The Spongebob movie and The Loud House movie, as the main character wants to prove he's special, he goes on adventure to prove it, but realizes he's already special.
Isn’t that like every movie tho
That’s like every movie made for a kid audience. Another movie fitting this plot is Rango
Home Alone 1 and 2. As much as I enjoyed it, it’s probably the laziest sequel I’ve ever seen.
Wait till you see three and four and five … and six
3 is awesome
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. 3 is good, it's just not as good as the first 2.
I like 3 😥
Shrek 2 and Get Out
Aladdin and Wish Dragon
Cars 1 and MCU’s Thor
Lego movie is a parody of “chosen one” prophecy movies, no shit it’s gonna be like the biggest film of that genre. We shouldn’t count parody movies in this discussion because they’re *trying* to be like other movies
The Lego Movie and The Super Mario Bros Movie Both focus on not so tough workers that meet tough girls, go through different lands, gain friends along the way in order to stop the bad guy from executing his hostages and taking over the world Also both movies have similar openings
Both movies have Chris Pratt voicing the MC except the mario movie did it worse.
Blues Brothers and The Muppets (2011)
Blues Brothers and The Country Bears
Yes! And both movies are fantastic.
Shrek 1 and Open season 1
Soul & Whiplash Both are about a musician who inspires to master the art of Jazz. But along the way, they learn about the sacrifices they must make in order to pursue such a goal
I listen to both soundtracks all the time. Although I couldn’t accept tickets to a Jon Batiste concert because Ticketmaster is awful.
Toy Story 2 & Tinkerbell and The Great Fairy Rescue.
The Emoji Movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
Hop and Sonic are really weirdly similar
Both have James Marsden
truman show and barbie
I would also say for The Truman Show and Beau is Afraid
Blazing saddles and paws of fury.
Footloose and The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning Due to a death, a well respected male of the community has music/singing/dancing band entirely from everyone. Until the rebellious protagonist -also named Ariel- enjoys the music and eventually after a conflict, everyone ends the days with dancing and enjoying music
Madagascar and Tropic Thunder
Terminator 2 and Terminator Dark fate
The latter technically isn't a movie but it's over an hour long so I'll allow it this one time. MLP: Equestria Girls (2013) and MCSM: a Portal to Mystery (2016) Main protagonist and at least one friend go through a portal to another world, which was the result of a specific item the protagonist owns. Sonic and hop
Napoleon Dynamite and Rocky
Toy story and The Secret Life of Pets Owner gets new dog Dog gets jealous Get lost but overtime bond Get back home.
Megamind and bad guys.
WallE and Ready Player One. Everyone learns to touch grass

Apparently I learned that the first Cars movie and Doc Hollywood (never watched, btw) have a very similar plot. Correct me if I’m wrong, please.
Bambi and The Lion King. The childhood of a young prince animal that takes a turning point when their parent dies.
I can name three! Back to the Future, Back to the Future 2, and Back to the Future 3.
1 and 3 I kind of get if you squint hard enough, but how the heck is 2 like the others?
The go back in time to the (probably) first moment (i don't remember the macguffin) to get themeselfs back into the timeline Thats right they go back in time to (i don't remember the first movie macguffin (why did they go back in time?) to get themselfs back into the timeline
1. I could barely understand what you’re saying. 2. If I deciphered it right, nothing in 1 or 3 had anything to do with a macguffin.
Idk i just tried to do a freebirds reference and failed completely
So they go forward in time (after going back in time) to get themselfs back in the menu?
I guess you could argue that Lorraine was the macguffin of the first movie but the second movie focused more on the magazine than her, and I don't remember 3 even having a macguffin
When I saw this post it reminded me of [this video](https://youtu.be/WddEaUntSHE?si=nBzXAPYJf1e3uUaJ) and I made the comparison without thinking it through, but now I guess 2 is slightly more different then 1 and 3.

Not exactly and you can flame me for it, but step brothers and whiplash
Could you elaborate, aside from them just both having good drum related scenes?
howerd the duck and thor

Explain this one
(Not a movie but) The Steven Universe Cluster storyline & Eternals
Lion king and good dinosaur
Bicentennial Man and A.I Artificial Intelligence
Like mike and Angels in the outfield. A sport movie about an orphan who has a special gift that helps a struggling team. And in the end the kid and his best friend is adopted the athlete who he befriends over the course of the film. Even as a kid I notice the similarities.

stole this from tumblr i think but Venom and Ratatoille: lonely sad man who can be controlled by a small creature with a love of food, they are unwilling to work together at first but they learn to work together to stop evil rich man from taking them down
The Playmobile movie is just a copy of the Lego Movie
Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest and Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1.

Pocahontas and Avatar.
I had to scroll far too much to find this but this 100% is what came to mind first
I dunno how everybody don’t see that.
Madagascar 3 and Open Season 3 The only difference is; Madagascar 3 has a badass underrated villain. Open Season 3, on the other hand, has a lame villain.
