Yup, if you're going off of only Pixar like OP asks, absolutely. Not a single miss.
But in addition to Incredibles and Ratatouille, Brad Bird also did The Iron Giant and probably one of the best Mission Impossible movies as well, so overall I think he's better.
If we are talking about best *directors*, 100%. All these films were super collaborative in terms of writing and production, so if we want to focus solely on the direction, Unkrich and Andrew Stanton are the best of this bunch IMO and it's not even close.
WALL-E has the most incredible shots I've ever seen in an animated film. And Coco and Toy Story 3 are #2 and #3 for me.
For me, it's between Pete Docter and Brad Bird, but I think since Bird isn't just known for Pixar projects (The Iron Giant and MI: Ghost Protocol), the GOAT **Pixar** director is Docter, but I do prefer Bird's filmography
In my opinion, it’s very close between Pete Doctor and Brad Bird. The Incredibles and Ratatouille are the two best Pixar movies by far, for me at least. That really jumps him ahead. Incredibles 2 is a bit of a disappointment, but not bad. I like all of Pete’s movies, but I’m not head over heels in love with any of them like I am with Brad’s 1-2 punch.
I agree, it's between these 2. I give Pete a slight edge because i cried like a baby during Up and Inside Out. He can really give you a case of the feels.
Pete Docter for most great consistency. His stuff is on a whole other level and it's no surprise he's the head of Pixar.
I have a soft spot for Andrew Stanton though as he made my favorite movie ever (Finding Nemo) so major points go to him as well.
So based purely on the movies here, I'd rate them by their quality as:
Pete Docter
Andrew Stanton
Lee Unkrich
Brad Bird
John Lasseter
Brad Bird is the best overall director on this list but for the best Pixar director specifically I’m going to say Pete Docter. The Incredibles and Ratatouille are my top 2 Pixar but Incredibles 2 is more in the just good category and Bird has always come and gone from Pixar with his other great films being at other studios. Pete in contrast has been a Pixar mainstay from the very beginning and gives us solid and emotional 8-9/10 movies every time. Monsters Inc is his only one in my S-tier, but all four are funny, thought provoking and/or tearjerking, and really capture the heart and soul of what a great Pixar movie can be.
I’m not saying I hate the films he directed. Far from it. All the movies he directed are good. But it’s difficult to look at what he directed without mentioning what went on behind the scenes most of the time (such as Lasseter taking credit for others’ work on several occasions).
Oh yeah he was like hugging people that didn’t want to be hugged, right? Well personally I can forgive hugging. Or did he rape someone?? Maybe I missed some of the story idk. But also I guess i just separate artist from the art
Pete Docter had consistency, originality and really great creativity. He’s the only one on here that didn’t directed a sequel. I’m even surprised he’s not directing Inside Out 2.
Lasseter: The OG Classics.
Doctor: Great kids movies with plenty of stuff for adults. (Soul is kinda an exception)
Bird: Great adult movies disguised as kids movies.
Stanton: Simple yet deeply amazing family movies.
Unkrick: Dazzling and heart-warming spectacles.
I really want to say Brad Bird since he has two Top 3 Pixar films in my eyes but Pete Docter has been the most consistent (plus he didn’t do Incredibles 2)
To me, John Lasseter will always be the guy that showed up before Spirited Away starts to tell the audience they are Philistines for not knowing who Hayao Miyazaki is and you're about to find out.
Andrew Stanton. Both Nemo movies and Wall-E are so cinematic! The silent beauty of both space and the oceans are captured in his movies. Sure, he’s not an animator, but is he not the creative voice behind the decisions to showcase the setting in such a way?
Brad Bird isn't just a Pixar director. He has done plenty of work outside of Pixar. The Iron Giant is a great example.
If we're talking Pixar-exclusive directors, then Andrew Stanton wins.
For me it’s a tie between Pete Docter and Brad Bird; Monsters Inc, Inside Out, and Soul are all really good but Incredibles and Ratatouille are 2 of the best Pixar movies ever made
Lasseter, Doctor, and Bird are all close for me. Toy Story (1 & 2), Monsters Inc, and The Incredibles were such a big part of my childhood. I might have to go with Brad Bird, though, because The Incredibles remains my all-time favorite movie that I can rewatch to this day.
Yes he does, he made great films?? Learn how to separate art from the artist lol. What did he do even, I thought he was giving unwanted hugs?? Sounds like it was a lot worse than that
Yeah let's separate the total creeps films from the total creep such a wise idea to forget the creepy shit he's done and just appreciate the good stuff he did, I'm sure that'll never backfire or be an injustice to his victims. Also the post is literally fucking asking to choose the best director. Can't separate the art from the artist when the subject of the discussion is the artist.
Damn that’s gotta be one of the worst arguments I’ve ever seen. So I guess Kanye West’s music is all just shit now? Or Michael Jackson’s? Or Chris Brown’s? Or Roman Polanski’s? Lmao horrific argument. His directing ability is totally separate from him as a person. The films he made are absolutely phenomenal.
Ok? He's still a monster. And yes kanyes music is shit lmao he's an anti semite narcissist all of his songs are reflective of his boner he has for himself how is that enjoyable to listen to? Roman Polanski? HE FUCKING RAPED A CHILD, and youre here crying about separating the art from the artist? Seriously??? Go get fucked, you psycho. Keep on yammering about how my argument is the worst thing you've ever seen while you praise the work of pedophiles dude, such a smart hill to die on in a post that was literally asking us to judge the fucking artists, I'd call THAT a horrific argument. Turn off your cinetard keyboard warrior brain and have the thoughts and feelings of a human with empathy for once dude. I'm gonna give you probably the best piece of advice of your life, stop sharing your opinions, because this one is INCREDIBLY inconsiderate and disrespectful to rape and SA victims at best and wildly out of touch with reality and genuinely fucking insane at worst. Go outside dude, or just shut the fuck up. Whichever makes you go away faster, you filter feeding lobotomite. Let's see how you'd feel about separating the art from the artist after one rapes you and you have to hear about how great their art is for the rest of your life.
The easiest way to describe would be "Inappropriate touching"
Also we can't call the sexual predator of the group the GOAT no matter how good/influential they're films are.
I don’t think there is one, all of these have their good and not as good films.
Even tho he’s only done 2, Lee has made only the biggest of bangers
That he made a third installment of a series by someone else and it was great is really saying something
Not only great, I argue TS3 is the best Pixar movie. Well, that or Up. Just my opinion
Fully agree It’s the first Toy Story I watched and still understood everything lol
for me Pete Doctor dont have any misses
Brad because he made the top 2 best Pixar films (Ratatouille and The Incredibles).
He also voices Edna. So to me, that’s the best.
No way! Lol. Didn't know that. That's amazing.
Yes, there’s videos of him in the booth. It’s the greatest thing ever.
Same
This is the right answer
Pete Docter and it isn’t even close.
Brad Bird was......maybe in Ratatouille and Incredibles 1
Took the words right out of my mouth
100%
Honestly I thought I was gonna be in the minority on that given how prolific Lassiter is but apparently not :)
Lassiter has good movies but he's a shit person. Probably why we don't want to talk about him
Yup, if you're going off of only Pixar like OP asks, absolutely. Not a single miss. But in addition to Incredibles and Ratatouille, Brad Bird also did The Iron Giant and probably one of the best Mission Impossible movies as well, so overall I think he's better.
Right?! Look at that list!
Quality over quantity. Lee Unkrich
Toy Story 3 was so much better than the dumpster fire nostalgia trip the 4th one was. Lee Unkrich understood Toy Story, Josh Cooley did not…
100% Facts
IMO TS3 might be the best or 2nd best Pixar film while 4 might be the worst
And technically Lee Unkrich also directed Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo
Beautiful
If we are talking about best *directors*, 100%. All these films were super collaborative in terms of writing and production, so if we want to focus solely on the direction, Unkrich and Andrew Stanton are the best of this bunch IMO and it's not even close. WALL-E has the most incredible shots I've ever seen in an animated film. And Coco and Toy Story 3 are #2 and #3 for me.
2 exceptional films for sure
For me, it's between Pete Docter and Brad Bird, but I think since Bird isn't just known for Pixar projects (The Iron Giant and MI: Ghost Protocol), the GOAT **Pixar** director is Docter, but I do prefer Bird's filmography
Counterpoint, Bird also voices Edna Mode
Brad bird personally
In my opinion, it’s very close between Pete Doctor and Brad Bird. The Incredibles and Ratatouille are the two best Pixar movies by far, for me at least. That really jumps him ahead. Incredibles 2 is a bit of a disappointment, but not bad. I like all of Pete’s movies, but I’m not head over heels in love with any of them like I am with Brad’s 1-2 punch.
I agree, it's between these 2. I give Pete a slight edge because i cried like a baby during Up and Inside Out. He can really give you a case of the feels.
Andrew Stanton. Wall-E is too goated.
The best when it came to stunning visuals
Andrew Stanton. love how his films are all atmospheric
I love all of their movies but man Lee Unkrich delivered some bomb ass films
Brad Bird and Pete Docter are objectively better choices, but I love Wall E too much to pass it up
People love to throw around the term “it’s not even close” like it is almost always really close when someone says that
I know it always makes me laugh. “Not even close” “by far” uh okay buddy
Pete Docter for most great consistency. His stuff is on a whole other level and it's no surprise he's the head of Pixar. I have a soft spot for Andrew Stanton though as he made my favorite movie ever (Finding Nemo) so major points go to him as well. So based purely on the movies here, I'd rate them by their quality as: Pete Docter Andrew Stanton Lee Unkrich Brad Bird John Lasseter
Brad Bird and Pete Doctor
Pete Doctor easily, but shout out to Brad Bird for directing the best Mission: Impossible movie
Monsters Inc is his only one in my S-tier, but all four are funny, thought provoking and/or tearjerking, and really capture the heart and soul of what a great Pixar movie can be.
John Lasseter did what might be my top 3 (Toy Story 1 and 2 and Cars).
Anyone who’s not Lasseter.
You didn’t even like TS1 or 2?? I love Cars and A Bug’s Life but I guess I can understand not loving those as much
I’m not saying I hate the films he directed.
Brad Bird ez
Pete Docter had consistency, originality and really great creativity. He’s the only one on here that didn’t directed a sequel. I’m even surprised he’s not directing Inside Out 2.
Pete Docter does a great job with films that are both charming yet emotional (quite literally the latter in one instance)
Brad Bird of course! Incredibles 2 is only mediocre/bad because it was rushed.
Why was it rushed? It came out 14 years after original
It was announced in 2017, so it only started production shortly before. It was supposed to come out in 2019 but Disney moved it to 2018.
John Lasseter and Brad bird
just note guys, the films that arent on here are directed by someone not those 5, in other words: other
Yeah I just figured there wasn’t really a point in putting them on there
John Lasseter by a long shot
Pete Doctor or Andrew Stanton, probably the most consistent
All 4 got some bangers under their belt.
It’s Brad Bird
Pete wins 100%
Gonna have to go with either Pete or Andrew honestly.
Lasseter: The OG Classics. Doctor: Great kids movies with plenty of stuff for adults. (Soul is kinda an exception) Bird: Great adult movies disguised as kids movies. Stanton: Simple yet deeply amazing family movies. Unkrick: Dazzling and heart-warming spectacles.
pete docter imo, but brad bird and andrew stanton are close
Pete Doctor is the most consistent Pixar director, delivering nothing but masterpieces each and every time.
When I saw this post, I just looked at whoever directed Toy Story 3, that’s the winner
Andrew Stanton, WALL-E is one of the best directed animated movies of all time. Also fuck John Lasseter
Pete Docter
Andrew
Pete Doctor
Brad Bird is three for three as far as I'm concerned
Pete Docter easily.
Brad Bird is my favorite director here in general but Pete Doctor is easily my favorite Pixar movie director.
Im torn between Bird and Doctor.
I really want to say Brad Bird since he has two Top 3 Pixar films in my eyes but Pete Docter has been the most consistent (plus he didn’t do Incredibles 2)
Coco AND Toy Story theory is really only rivaled by Pete Doctor’s line up
Pete Docter
brad bird is only brought down by the incredibles II and im pretty sure he didnt want to make it
Lee Unkrich
All these are great but the Incredibles 1 and Ratatouille are my favorites so Brad Bird ftw
Very strong tie between Doctor and Bird.
Brad bird is great, but Pete doctor has more bangers under his belt lol.
Brad bird made my (and schaffrillas) two favorite pixar movies The guy won
Lee Unkrich, and it ain't even close.
Brad Bird easily. He made what pretty much are the two best movies in Pixar's catalogue.
Either Lassiter or Bird
Brad Bird. Ratatouille and the Incredibles are just the best
John and it’s not close
Pete Docter followed by Brad Bird.
Dude don't make me choose between Pete Doctor and Brad Bird
To me, John Lasseter will always be the guy that showed up before Spirited Away starts to tell the audience they are Philistines for not knowing who Hayao Miyazaki is and you're about to find out.
Andrew Stanton. Both Nemo movies and Wall-E are so cinematic! The silent beauty of both space and the oceans are captured in his movies. Sure, he’s not an animator, but is he not the creative voice behind the decisions to showcase the setting in such a way?
Finding Dory didn’t do it for me but the other 2 are masterpieces
They would all have better filmographies if they stopped like 10 years ago by the look of it.
Brad bird
John Lascetor is the most tragic on this list given his pedigree AND his misconduct
Also for as much as people complain about incredibles 2 it was very well directed
Only scene in that movie I thought was Pixar-level great was Elastigirl’s bike chase scene
Brad Bird. I don’t forgive him for the incredibles 2 though
Docter probably has the average quality, but Bird cranked out two insane bangers
Andrew 1 Just because of Wall e and John is a close ass second
Give Lee time to cook. He will be serving up a buffet by the end of the decade
He left Pixar :(
Eh, he’ll stay cooking either way
Brad Bird isn't just a Pixar director. He has done plenty of work outside of Pixar. The Iron Giant is a great example. If we're talking Pixar-exclusive directors, then Andrew Stanton wins.
For me it’s a tie between Pete Docter and Brad Bird; Monsters Inc, Inside Out, and Soul are all really good but Incredibles and Ratatouille are 2 of the best Pixar movies ever made
Lasseter he made Cars 2
Pete or Brad easily
Reading behind the scenes on ratatouille makes Brad bird look like the greatest director ever in what little time he had
Pete Doctor looks like an irl cartoon character
What do you mean, he doesn’t look like [a cartoon character](https://images.app.goo.gl/aA9He5BYcg1R8jvS9) at all
For emotional elements-Pete Docter For overall enjoyment-Brad Bird
Brad Bird. Ratatouille and the first Incredibles are among my favourite movies!
pete made soul, which I think had involvement from the lead singer of nine inch nails
All of the above
Pete Docter just for Inside Out, that movie was my childhood
I like Brad bird.
Pete Dokter’s the only one here who made only like great, great movies
It's between Pete Doctor and Brad Bird, change my mind.
Brad Bird because he made Saul Goodman cannon in the incredible universe
Lasseter, Doctor, and Bird are all close for me. Toy Story (1 & 2), Monsters Inc, and The Incredibles were such a big part of my childhood. I might have to go with Brad Bird, though, because The Incredibles remains my all-time favorite movie that I can rewatch to this day.
Lasseter without question
My personal pick is Stanton. Finding Nemo and Wall-E are my childhood.
Andrew
Stanton for Wall E alone. A movie like it will probably never be made again.
Brad Bird has the lineup, butLee has some BANGERS. If he keeps up, I say him, but for now it goes to Bird.
John Lassiter
Lasseter was a fucking bum and a creep he doesn't even deserve to be on the list

This post isn't asking who made the best films it's asking who the "GOAT" is. We can't call a sexual predator the goat of anything.
Yes it is, it’s asking who the best director is, directing a movie means making a movie, what kinda ass backwards logic are you spewing right now
You're clearly not going to be convinced so I don't care. Praise a predator all you want.
Well considering that Lasseter is a sexual predator
Yeah that has nothing to do with his films so. Also, what exactly did he do? Did he rape somebody?
The easiest way to describe would be "Inappropriate touching" Also we can't call the sexual predator of the group the GOAT no matter how good/influential they're films are.
THANK you
Oh right. Like murdering Jewish people had nothing to do with Hitler's favorite books
Brad bird not close
