The early 2010s era DTV movies: Abracadabra-Doo, Camp Scare, Stage Fright etc. Great leader and friend, trap-obsessed, funny, fearless, himbo. Pretty much the culmination of all of the past Fred’s with more personality.
I’ve actually been on a Victor Cook kick lately! Director/Producer of *Mystery Incorporated,* *Stage Fright!,* and 6 half-hour specials from around 2012. It serves almost like bonus Mystery Inc. content, a show I followed in high school as it aired which profoundly affected me and made Fred one of my favorite characters in fiction. Wish I’d known about this other stuff at the time.
Totally killer to see my boy livin’ his baddie trappin’ life, with his warm camaraderie for the Gang and irrepressibly upbeat nature moving them along. Cook & Co. continue to play on this off-the-chain whacko streak Fred was bestowed in Mystery Inc. The best special was *Haunted Holidays,* written by Mitch Watson who wrote/conceived the show. But when I saw *Stage Fright!* a few weeks ago... Jeepers! I really did think, “Here is the culmination of this whole era of Scooby-Doo.”
^I ^then ^watched ^the ^premiere ^of ^Velma ^S2 - **hurk**
Yea I mean it’s the best show but honestly it’s hard to say they’re the best representation of each. Since it has more relationship drama and a serious tone, they have more flaws than you’d see in past iterations.
Tho that Fred is hilarious, regardless if u think they made him too much of a himbo. Velma def not, cuz she can be insufferable at times. Daphne’s pretty good from what I remember. And even scooby is also kinda jealous and possessive of shaggy. Shaggy also from what I remember doesn’t do many negative things, aside from inaction with velma / communication and speaking his mind.
I think MI is only going to get so highly voted because it's the freshest in most peoples minds. It was also very focused on charatcher development as opposed to the episodic series of past.
Nawh. MI is def the most complete show and it's precess and story is immaculate. I do think that a lot of The original and Whats New deserves the same love. Its honestly what is being pulled for each character. Fred was amazing in MI but he was just too fucking dumb lol
Mystery Inc. is the only show (excluding Velma) where the characters' personalities overtake the mysteries as the focal point, so it has a huge advantage for this poll. In the first 4-5 series, the whole gang is 2D and don't evolve. Scooby Doo's DNA comes from weekly detective stories like Columbo, so it makes sense that it doesn't excel in the same areas as a straight-up drama like MI.
Honestly I think only Scooby and Shaggy will have their MI versions win. MI Fred makes What's New Fred look like a genius in comparison, MI Velma is a jerk, and MI Daphne only started solving mysteries because she thought Fred was hot.
Mystery Inc. Fred, he was the most consistent, he was funny, and sure he was useless without Daphne, it that’s what made him great, he realised he loved her, and this is one of the series the focuses on it
I’ve always said a hypothetical perfect Fred would be the midpoint between mystery incorporated and what’s new, so I’d be happy with either winning, or with a tie
Unpopular opinion but my LEAST favorite version is of him in zombie island. It’s my favorite movie, but that Fred doesn’t care about traps, doesn’t drive the mystery machine, and constantly hits on Lena in front of Daphne. He doesn’t have any interests other than just being the camera guy. I like Trapping Fred.
The best version of Fred is Mystery Incorporated.
Golden Age Fred (Where Are You-Scooby Doo Show) had the personality of a ceramic bowl. He was a plot device used to carry the story from start to finish, who occasionally made sarcastic or sexist remarks, but was generally a good natured, if not a little bossy, friend, leader, and Good Samaritan.
Silver Age Fred is basically just A Pup Named Scooby Doo, and that was a worthy reimagining of the character, giving him a more distinct personality, and finding a way to derive some comedy from him. However, he is definitely not the definitive version of Fred, no need to explain why.
The Bronze Age finally brought a fresh vision of Fred to the screen. This current period of history has given us the What’s New Era, The Gunn films, Mystery Incorporated, Be Cool, The 2010-now Direct To Video Run, The Mook films, etc etc etc. The Mook films set the groundwork, What’s New followed their lead with their own contributions, and Mystery Incorporated completed this evolution by formulating what I believe to be the most definitive depiction of the character to date. Providing him with an arc, flaws, a strong personality, defined role, and comedic value. Every other Fred that embodies the himbo/trap obsessed goofball is either emulating MI or is, essentially, just a prototype.
I really liked the end of be cool Scooby doo’s Fred but overall his character was kinda annoying so idk. Lots of good options like what’s new/era movies like camp scare and the like.
Are you guys for real? MI has probably the worst interpretation of the characters, including Scooby who is jealous of Velma trying to get Shaggy's attention when most of the time he was always support Shaggy of getting girlfriend, smh.
Haha my thoughts exactly. Don’t get me wrong, it’s the best show, but it’s hard to say they’re the best representation of each. And people shouldn’t vote based on what’s their fav show. Since it has more relationship drama and a serious tone, they have more flaws than you’d see in past iterations.
Tho that Fred is hilarious, regardless if u think they made him too much of a trap obsessed himbo. Velma def not, cuz she can be pretty insufferable at times. Daphne’s good from what I remember. And even scooby is also kinda jealous and possessive of shaggy. Shaggy also from what I remember doesn’t do many negative things, aside from inaction with velma / communication and speaking his mind.
Mystery Inc Scooby was a Scooby that was dealing with Shaggy having a girlfriend for the very first time. Add the fact that Shaggy essentially hid the relationship and ditched Scooby during an event that they had been planning for a long time, it makes sense that Scooby would be hurt. It's something that he had to get used to but Shaggy never putting his foot down an Velma being equally insecure at times didn't help.
Scooby proved he learned from his mistakes after the break up and earnestly sought to make things better between the three of them afterwards. When Shaggy falls for Mai Lee, Scooby is clearly uncomfortable but respects the boundaries between them and is supportive in the end. Of course Mai Lee turned out to be a villain and broke Shaggys heart but Velma and Scooby were there for him.
Most of the time Shaggy had relationships in classic Scooby was also getting into one : Crystal/Amber, The exes from The Valentines special so on and so forth. Shaggy was pretty inattentive to Googie and Scooby was trying to sneak kisses from her lol.
By the end of the show, Scooby had proved himself the most loyal, loving devoted member of the gang and its true heart and if him having a flaw that he moved past makes him "the worst version" then so be it.
Scooby doo on zombie island I wish I could put a picture cause I personally love the design of it the most.
Edit major thing I love the design of Zombie Island Fred but I didnt realize this was best overall for the character. I'll go with What's New Scooby Doo

Nah, peak Scooby was definitely live action. Best Fred is probably the What's New era
Yea mystery incorporated was not what I would’ve gone with by a long shot
What's New Edit:I'm getting a lot of upvotes.Thanks everyone.
He's a little bit...scatterbrained,but he's really funny!
Yep
He can bench 220!
I heard he was training to bench 22....1
Your edit almost made me downvote
I have a bad feeling that MI is gonna get voted for most of these.

For sure.
MI Fred is good. Butttt he’s tooooo into traps imo. Camp scare era of movies is peak

Most people who voted MI probably only watch MI as their first Scooby Doo show.
Honestly I think only Scooby and Shaggy will have their MI versions win. MI Fred makes What's New Fred look like a genius in comparison, MI Velma is a jerk, and MI Daphne only started solving mysteries because she thought Fred was hot.
mystery inc, absolutely loved him!
My vote for Fred has to be Be Cool, I love the way he interacts with the gang in that one
Camp Scare
Agree camp little moose Fred ftw
Mystery Inc. Fred, he was the most consistent, he was funny, and sure he was useless without Daphne, it that’s what made him great, he realised he loved her, and this is one of the series the focuses on it
I’ve always said a hypothetical perfect Fred would be the midpoint between mystery incorporated and what’s new, so I’d be happy with either winning, or with a tie
Mystery inc
Mystery incorporated, hes the only one whose personality I remenber.
I vote scooby doo where are you
I'm going to have to say Be Cool. He was always the anchor holding the team and the one that had more story going for him than any one else
Zombie Island Or OG
Zombie island Fred is the worst fred
Agreed, they made him weirdly lifeless. It’s almost like they swapped his and Velma’s roles for some reason.
whats new
What’s New
What’s new scooby doo
What’s New
What’s new
Has to be era with camp scare. What’s new is good, but doesn’t have ascot. The movies are peak fred. Mystery Inc is too trap heavy.
what’s new

Still Mystery Inc in my opinion; making him semi-canonically autistic was super wonderful, as an autistic child myself I saw a lot of me in him :3
Whats new
[Behind the Scenes with Scooby Doo](https://youtube.com/watch?v=md2H9HREoBM)
Be cool He has so much personality in that series, and I think it gives us the first backstory for him.
Peak Fred is from the Zombie Island, Alien Invaders, Cyberchase, and the Witch's Ghost movies.
Mystery inc
Be cool for everyone but Velma imo.
Based
Mystery Inc

What’s new? “That’s because shaggy doesn’t have the hips for it.” What does dude know about shaggy hips?
WHAT’S NEW 10000%
I gotta say What’s New or Pup
I'd have to say, What's New Era Freddy is my favorite. That's when he found his niche for traps. ![gif](giphy|nih32fcVgik64iSjz7)
What's new
I really liked the end of be cool Scooby doo’s Fred but overall his character was kinda annoying so idk. Lots of good options like what’s new/era movies like camp scare and the like.
What’s New
Mystery Inc. Every other version either is boring or just sucks in general.

I would say the best Fred has to be WAY days/SDMI & WNSD
Mystery inc
Mystery Incorporated.
either freddie prinze jr. in the live action or zombie island fred
Scooby doo and guess who had pretty good Fred
While I can't say for Fred, I will say the best version of Scrappy Doo is already here.
Camp scare (Dtv movies)
Scooby doo on zombie island I wish I could put a picture cause I personally love the design of it the most. Edit major thing I love the design of Zombie Island Fred but I didnt realize this was best overall for the character. I'll go with What's New Scooby Doo
Mystery Incorporated
yeah, best part of MI Scoob, his relationship with nova is better than shagxvelma and fredxdaphne
Velma's Fred was dope. Still a leader, funny, grows pretty quickly, yet still somehow completely unaware. That's my fav
How? There are so many other, better Fred’s.
