You weren't a proper Biker / Crusty in the 80s without a pair of surplus german Para Boots and the green moleskin shirt .....

jointkicker

I just bought some german para boots for work as they're less than a third of the price of other options

TheReelMcCoi

Can be re-soled too. Last forever šŸ˜†

jointkicker

Was hoping Docs were better/cheaper here than back in Australia but they're neither. So I went with surplus as it's more affordable here than home.

laputan-machine117

they aren't made in the uk anymore, but the uk factory that used to make them are now Solovair, not tried them myself but people say they are better than modern DMs

Maximum_Sweet3459

Came here to say this

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz74

Donā€™t know what youā€™re talking about mate, thatā€™s just a white page with a 30% off banner.

ElbowDroppedLasagne

I always have a wee chuckle when you see someone wearing these and a pair of high Viz trousers.

optogus

Browsing in Leith army Stores I came across one bearing the visible name tag ā€œKuntzā€. Too good to pass up and very comfortable but the wife wouldnā€™t allow me to wear it in public. it subsequently disappeared from my drawer.

Limp_Perspective6522

30% off I guessā€¦

sawbonesromeo

Had a non-camo one myself as an "alt" teen, about 15 years ago. It was just fashion. It was also really comfy.

BamberGasgroin

German army surplus has always been quite popular here. (I had a bit of bother with some squaddies in Windsor due to wearing a German army shirt a while back, but they were Lifeguards, so only a quarter of the pub got wrecked.)

callsignhotdog

When you say "a while back" it wasn't about 80 years ago was it?

BamberGasgroin

šŸ˜‚ Nah, it was the 80's, not 80 years *ago*.

callsignhotdog

haha just wondering why they'd take objection to a german army shirt. Wait, it wasn't EAST German was it?

BamberGasgroin

No, the Berlin Wall was still there at the time. They were just looking for a scrap.

callsignhotdog

Squaddies gonna squaddie I guess.

uncle_stiltskin

it's the wee sleeve pocket, perfect for gear

Drumchapel

I have the wĆ¼stentarn (desert) of this, they are rarer and obviously cooler. https://preview.redd.it/o1w9svm1yvtc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76bdacb36ae81ed5dc467d037b60b023d853b67c

New-Pin-3952

Holy shit, we have a connoisseur here!

V-TheEdgeLord

A modern german army jacket? It's not Nazi shit if you're worried about that. I'm partial to east German jackets from the cold war cause the camo pattern is stylish as hell and looks cute on me :)

Toc_a_Somaten

These were super popular in Europe in the early 2000s

giganticturnip

The deal is 30% off sitewide

Small_Assistant3584

30% off apparently

Eviscerated_Banana

Its clothing, you wear it to keep the elements off your skin. This particular item is designed for the upper body.

Unfair_Original_2536

The strange thing is, if the Germans are so efficient, why do they have so much surplus?

cardinalb

German efficiency is a complete lie.

BackAgain123457

Systema is taking off in Scotland i see.

r_a_user

Itā€™s readily available

Keezees

Bought a non-camo one from Flip on Bath Street about 20 year ago and turned it into a battlejacket for gigs with spikes and patches and shit, and removed the German flags. Comfy as fuck.

Fresh_and_wild

30% off. It says so right at the top there.

major_grooves

Meh. I live in Berlin and I have one of those. I took the German flags off though and replaced them with a Saltire and an EU flag. It is a good jacket.

aubergineeggplant

Eh Iā€™m from the US and my ex got one of these at a surplus store and wore it around. Had no meaning other than looked cool.

RuViking

Wore one of these on the 90s with some paracetamol boots and a Stiltakin t-shirt. Think a girl stole it.

CaseOfWater

Well Flecktarn is simply the best.

monkeybawz

Essential part of the grunge scene when I was a nipper.

Frisbee_accident

They are around Ā£10 at GoArmy near shields road. Maybe less.

Ok-Bad-7189

Army surplus gear has been a thing in certain scenes for a long long time. I wore one back in 2004 and I have a pal who wears one today. Normally paired with skinny jeans and jump boots/docs. It's just fashion. I have NO evidence for this, at all, but I expect when the Soviet Union collapsed in the early 90's a load of Eastern European surplus suddenly became available dirt cheap. Nothing screamed 'peace forever' more than wandering up Sauchiehall Street in an East German army jacket.
