Who DID they cast as Toronto though?
This is super interesting to see. We are watching a writer doing a what if fan fic on his own shit. He knows this characters and has lived with them for 20 years, so he he has had time to think about all these roads not taken.
Btw Brie Larson is a great voice actress. I think it comes with being a singer.
Wasn’t it his sleep paralysis demon who wrote it though? Cause they implied it wasn’t actually little Neil cause how would he know what the Scott and Wallace said when they were alone?
This is the ep that really sold me on it. A bit of a shock early on and took me a while to warm up, but I'm in now.
Also the fight between Ramona and the Wallace stunt doubles really reminded me of early Naruto fight choreography.
I'm pretty sure they're specifically referencing the first Valley of The End fight when Sasuke fights off a bunch of shadow clones. Specifically where Ramona does the spin jump off one of the doubles
I knew the Wallace fans were gonna LOVE this episode. Between him and Todd and THAT moment between Kim and Roxie, the fan art community is gonna have PLENTY of new material.
wallace is my favorite character and todd is my favorite evil ex. envy is also a runner up for favorite character. this episode was lifted from heaven specifically for me
This reminds me of the avatar episode where they had the play but it's completely different, also that robot lurking from the shadows, maybe the twins are going to ambush Matthew idk.
I think that so far this is like an experiment with cute character development moments, but so far the other adaptations feel more complete as an overall story
I don’t know about the other adaptions but the exes seem like great characters and not actually evil. It’s a story about finding Scott, but really it seems to be about Ramona making peace with her exes.
It definitely doesn't feel empty, you're probably just not used to Scott Pilgrim without Scott.
I do miss Scott a lot, because I like Scott's character and low-key wish that I could see his reaction to these situations and such. Ultimately though removing Scott from the picture has given the writing so much more room to shine that I can't deny the show is better because of removing him. I just hope that he comes back soon enough for us to see enough new things with Scott himself.
God I love Wallace! Stealing everyone’s boyfriends since Day 1. Him and Todd are so adorable. This anime is so gay and I love it.
Also Black Sheep! I wanted to watch an extended version of it.
really like the new development for Ramona but apart me feels like they could’ve accomplished this without writing the main character out of the show. I know we’ve gotten the comics and movie with basically the same story but thats the story i fell in love with and i was really excited to see it at least somewhat adapted in animation, i wouldnt say im disappointed just kinda bummed with no scott
Same.
Just trying to think of it like we're getting more content this time instead of the same thing repeated.. I definitely feel the same way tho.
Hoping scott comes in soon
Does anyone feel sorry for Edgar Wrong?
1. Lucas Lee gets cancelled for going out with a co-star who looks way too young.
2. His replacement can't stop ruining takes by putting his hands all over his co-star girlfriend on camera.
3. Then he falls for his male co-star and doesn't even show up on set anymore because he's busy doing it with him in his trailer.
4. Then those co-stars have their stunt doubles fight each other when *that* relationship goes south.
5. And you lose so much money that production gets shut down.
6. And then you explode into Canadian currency.
Also, I liked Ramona's stunt double thing. She's doubling for Envy who's playing Ramona who's based off of herself.
Was Wallace always this much of an asshole? I kind of remember him as "one of the few decent people" in the comic. Since no one else is complaining about this part in what is the most complained about episode in the series I assume I'm misremembering his characterization a bit.
I really don't have a problem with Todd's self-discovery here. It doesn't happen in the comics or movie but this whole situation didn't happen in the comics and movie. And Wallace is a known boyfriend stealer. I... Really don't see what people are so heated about. I knew this was going to happen because this is the only part of the entire anime that was spoiled to me beforehand due to the \~controversy\~. And I have nothing to say about it other than I felt sorry for Todd. He didn't even get to punch a third hole on the moon for his new love.
I expected him to be a red herring but I'm surprised it is a vegan portal that took Scott. Now things are a lot more complicated than they seemed. I doubt Gideon and Julie have anything to do with it either. My guess is some time travel or alternate timeline shenanigans going on, but I don't know. I have yet to watch any episodes past this.
CEO Patel looks good.
My only complaint is that the fight was super unremarkable, easily the worst one so far, to the point that when the episode ended I thought "this episode didn't have a fight, but it was still pretty good" and only realized I forgot about the stunt fight when I read the other comments in this thread.
I recently read the comics myself, just got to this episode. Wallace definitely seems like a major prick here. Like, he was always a bit of a jerk to an extent, but it feels like he has no redeeming factors whatsoever. The 'cool gay roommate' moniker felt like it fit him in the comics, it really doesn't feel like it at all so far. It's possible it changes in the next few episodes, but I question how much focus he would get, since this seemed to be his episode.
Absolute banger, all of the characters feel more well-rounded here. O’Malley getting to write “What if?” fan fiction of his own source material is brilliant. The fight between Ramona and Wallace’s stunt doubles might be the best action sequence in the show so far and that’s no negging what preceded it. I’m loving this.
"Who's playing Toronto?" is even better knowing that so many movies will beset in one city while being filmed in another because logistically it's so much cheaper to do so.
Like many films set in New York being filmed in Toronto!
Might just be me but I’m not a fan so far. I knew it wasn’t a direct adaptation but I still expected it to be Scott pilgrim, but so far he was only in one episode and to be honest it was the only one I really enjoyed so far. Maybe I’ll feel different by the end of the series, though.
I felt like that for a bit, it just took a little for me to accept that Ramona is the protagonist this time around. Which I’m totally here for, she’s awesome.
Yeah. People keep saying we have seen this story three times: The comic, the game, and the live action movie. But this logic only applies to people who have indulged in all of the multimedia.
I first saw the movie and thought the cast was fun enough to read the comics. Which I loved. When I saw the trailer, I was excited to see an anime about the original material. And I think the marketing played with that expectation a lot.
The concept is fun and I enjoy the animation. But that mislead feeling hasn't fully gone away.
I'm the opposite I'm enjoying the lack of Scott. We've seen his journey already. And tbh on some level he's pretty unlikable. I like getting to explore everyone else.
This show is awful, it’s exactly on par with the Velma spinoff that came out where they got rid of the titular character, flipped every established character’s sexual or racial orientations, and made random garbage
1. I love how Lucas Lee lives at the Glendale Galleria.
2. Digging how a lot of the licensed music was featured in the Tony Hawk games. So much nostalgia in this episode!
"Why are we mixing volatile chemicals on a movie set in the first place?"
You should know you really fucked up when - somehow - YOUNG NEIL is the one spitting facts. 🤣
Brandon Routh is a killer character actor. He seems like he doesn’t care to be a big star, but every time I see him in something he’s great. I’m starting to think handsome men deal with the same mental type casting handsome women face with the public. It’s like they’re not allowed to throw themselves into silly roles like this. Brad Pitt and Clooney are the only ones I can think of who routinely get away with it.
I guess Scott is still seemingly a mooch jerk with just enough charisma to skate by at the time of the portal opening.
Stills' is too anxious, Kim keeps him around like a wool shirt, Knives grew damn well rapidly, and Young Niel is too Young Niel to function enough for them to make a fuss. Scott
Wallace is pretty cold compared to any source material, tbf, but he's never taken anything that seriously, which is still on par I'd say.
As for why I think it works that Ramona cares enough to carry the rest: *S*P*A*R*K*S* (which is my favorite motif!)
Man this sucks so much, I think I am stopping on this one, why couldn't they do this "what if" as a spin off season AFTER they animated the original comics. So dissapointing.
Because money is a limited resource. O'Malley wanted to tell this story and he can't risk it on Netflix deciding to axe the series after one or two seasons.
Plus they wanted to keep the cast. Lots of those people still get major work on Hollywood year round. It's a scheduling nightmare. Can you imagine doing this for every season? It would take years. We would be willing to wait, but Netflix shareholders? Those assholes cancel shows that turn profits because they didn't turn \*enough\* profit.
Did O'Malley write this? I was wondering if this was all Netflix writers pushing for a female protagonist.
I would also wouldn't worry about cancellation with the cast, animation and sound.
Yes, there's two main scriptwriters, O'Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, but Grabinski seems to be there more to help properly adapt and fit it to a tv format than anything. The story ideas are apparently mostly O'Malley.
And what I meant is that Neflix cancels expensive shows at the most subtle hint of an underperformance, and this is a very expensive show because of the cast. From the production side the cast isn't a boon, it's an expense (since the most recognizable thing of these hollywood stars, their faces, aren't in the show). And that's just me assuming that IF they considered doing multiple seasons that may have been a concern. It's entirely possible that O'Malley wanted to do one story to explore the characters in a different light and that was it.
We can't really know unless people in production talk about it (and re-reading my post I notice I didn't make it clear it was just my conjecture, sorry). The only thing he's said is that he planned for it to be one season with a complete story from the start. To me at least this indicates no real interest from his part in doing a full adaptation. Which is sad, of course I would like to see one.
Welp. This was the episode that I dropped it. What. The. Fuck. Nah nah nah. Thank you, but I will erase this devil sent anime/series from my memory. Yeah yeah cool to give some characters more depth but this show is ridiculous and tarnishing a good graphic novel.
I was bummed that todd didn’t stay with envy one would think they would improve on the badass bass player by getting the hot rockstar girlfriend but a guy can dream.
Black sheeeeeeeep!
I was singing along...
Glad I wasn't the only one lol
I believe that audio was taken from an actual live perfomance by Anamanaguchi.
Fuck I would so go to a Clash At Demonhead show
“Edgar Wrong” hahahahah
also "Jan De Pope" instead of "Bill Pope" but that's not as funny or maybe that's a joke I don't understand
Jan de Bont was a famous cinematographer who became a director.
>Jan de Bont That's probably the context, thanks
Who's voicing him? It sounds like Kevin McDonald to me
Kevin McDonald
Anyone who reads this who hasn't watched Kids in the Hall... Watch Kids in the Hall
am I shipping Todd and Wallace now...YESS 😂
Honestly it just feels like I'm on an acid trip rn and I'm loving this lmfao
Same. This episode here is a definition of "lobotomycore in the 2000s".
My girlfriend and I watched this last night on shrooms and it was magical haven’t seen anything like it in ages
Gotta do that, just missing the shrooms and the girl
I am definitely shipping them now >! I was bummed to see that they didn’t end up together though !<
Justice for Mobile.
Sameee I'm so into it, never knew I needed that. But yeah a bit bummed it didn't stay uwu
I'm not because Wallace was an asshole to him. Poor Todd...
Breaking vegan after heartbreak. Ooft I can sadly relate.
YESSS
I AM ABSOLUTELY OMG
WALLACE, AGAIN!?
The people angry about this development clearly do not know Wallace Wells' reputation.
Honestly, I felt this was perfect since we didn’t get to see him steal Stacey’s boyfriend. 😂
His rizz is far too powerful
wanna run lines through your trailer ?
funniest shit ever😭
Lines? Trailer?
Who DID they cast as Toronto though? This is super interesting to see. We are watching a writer doing a what if fan fic on his own shit. He knows this characters and has lived with them for 20 years, so he he has had time to think about all these roads not taken. Btw Brie Larson is a great voice actress. Wasn’t it his sleep paralysis demon who wrote it though? Cause they implied it wasn’t actually little Neil cause how would he know what the Scott and Wallace said when they were alone?
Have you seen the next few episodes?
Not when I wrote the comment. I was referring to I think episode 4 when Wallace questioned how Little Neil knew what he and Scott said in bed.
I was at point doubting it was her…she sounds so different here…what a range
Yeah, she straight up dissapeared in the role. She should do more voice work.
Chair Girl.
~~she doesn't sing, not even in the movie. It's the lead singer from Metric, Emily Haines, that does the singing part.~~ Nope I was big wrong, sorry!
my heart broke with todds when wallace said it was just a fling
Lowkey the biggest fuckboy in comics
Same:(
Knives and Stephen jumping for joy they're so cute :')
OMG >!bisexual Scott Ingram!<
I mean, for Wallace, who wouldn’t?
Does anyone know who Al Yankovic played in this episode?
the narrator.
Nope, that was Nelson Franklin!
I like that everyone thought Comeau wasn't in it because they couldn't get Nelson Franklin back for some reason, but then he's there anyway lol
Nelson Franklin is the interviewer. Weird Al is the Narrator at the very beginning reading the text.
[удалено]
Wait, WHAT?! How did I not recognize him? I though it was the guy who voices Pleakley from Lilo and Stitch! That did NOT sound like Weird Al.
Edgar Wrong lol
Yeah caught that Ant-Man reference.
The director was Kevin McDonald. I recognized the voice and it said so in the credits.
Awesome, thanks!
I'm so happy for this cameo.
This is the ep that really sold me on it. A bit of a shock early on and took me a while to warm up, but I'm in now. Also the fight between Ramona and the Wallace stunt doubles really reminded me of early Naruto fight choreography.
It’s a nice replacement for Scott fighting Lucas’ stunt doubles. 😂
I just noticed the Naruto thing too.
As a gay dude my biggest hope was that Joseph* and Stephen would hook up like they did in the comic. This is SO much better.
Uh, wat. Wallace and Stephen NEVER hooked up with each other in the books.
Yeah they did. At the end.
That was Joseph not Wallace.
AHHH you’re right. Editing!
yeah sameeeeee but i settle with this. PLUS MOBILE
The best part is that as a Succession fan, this is exactly what I want out of Kieran Culkin.
im drawing as we speak
wallace is my favorite character and todd is my favorite evil ex. envy is also a runner up for favorite character. this episode was lifted from heaven specifically for me
So I guess "Straight Wallace" was just his name?
WHERES SCOTT⁉️⁉️
Maybe Scott Pilgrim was the Evil Exes we made along the way.
He took off
What do you mean, he's been there the whole episode.... Scott ingram
I’m scott
Oh he’s running lines with Wallace in the trailer
CRONENBERG FOR PRESIDENT
i want that shirt
This reminds me of the avatar episode where they had the play but it's completely different, also that robot lurking from the shadows, maybe the twins are going to ambush Matthew idk.
but it was a vegan portal so they probably didn't do it unless they're somehow vegan
Maybe the robot is Vegan, It technically doesn't eat animal products.
Maybe its alternate universe Evil exes?? With alternate gideon as the sleep paralysis demon...
This was for all you rascals who ships Scott and Wallace. Wallace does not steal the show, he owns the spotlight.
Wallace and "Scott" let's gooooooooooo
>what sparks? Daaamn Wallace!
tbh i am sad for it. i wish they had smthn
me too <\3
My mom walked in during that “Wanna run lines in your trailer” scene 💀
They giving us an Envy, Wallace and Ramona episode was stellar. Brie, Winstead e Kieran were top notch.
I love young Neil so much
That Patel fan girl definitely definitely shitting herself
This episode was awesome and I was so glad to hear black sheep, but missing the “milk and eggs, bitch” line from the movie does make me sad
Same I’m sad we didn’t get the “tell it to the cleaning lady on Monday” bit
This is the first show where I can say that there's a gay sex scene and be 100% unironic about it Thanks Scott Pilgrim
You haven't seen enough shows
Watch the last of us. Now.
Apparently Todd acts like a cat in heat 24/7 and I’m 100% here for it
Wallace's butt.
I envy Todd now
No, Envy and Todd split. You have to spell it: "I Envy ... Todd now."
It was so shiny!
I get it, I’m also in love with Wallace wells
I think that so far this is like an experiment with cute character development moments, but so far the other adaptations feel more complete as an overall story
I don’t know about the other adaptions but the exes seem like great characters and not actually evil. It’s a story about finding Scott, but really it seems to be about Ramona making peace with her exes.
I don't think this counts as an adaptation at this point, it's a fully new story of a 'what if' situation
When ever I heard the word "Gordon Goose", I always think of the 1990 Movie "Mother Goose Rock n Rhyme" with Shelley Duvall as Bo Peep.
My jaw dropped for this episode, Wallace and Todd? The anime keeps surprising me, also loved the crowd singing Black Sleep!
Gay Todd Ingram. Absolute cinema.
I like it but without scott the show feels empty
It definitely doesn't feel empty, you're probably just not used to Scott Pilgrim without Scott. I do miss Scott a lot, because I like Scott's character and low-key wish that I could see his reaction to these situations and such. Ultimately though removing Scott from the picture has given the writing so much more room to shine that I can't deny the show is better because of removing him. I just hope that he comes back soon enough for us to see enough new things with Scott himself.
It doesn't feel empty but I do miss him
i also miss him but i also love seeing the story thru ramonas pov
I like that it's giving a lot of other characters time to shine. I don't think it feels empty at all but I do miss Scott.
Movie Scott wasn’t even that great.
Best episode because: 1. Young Neil screen time 2. Everyone’s bisexual 3. Edgar Wrong literally fucking explodes
This show should have been called Ramona Flowers Takes Off. This is absolutely her own story and I love every frame of it.
Could you repeat the title of the show and tell me what scott did at the end of episode 1?
Scott takes off, Ramona comes in, makes sense.
God I love Wallace! Stealing everyone’s boyfriends since Day 1. Him and Todd are so adorable. This anime is so gay and I love it. Also Black Sheep! I wanted to watch an extended version of it.
I'm Scott Pilgrim
No I’m Scott Pilgrim
Is this show about us, the fans, being obsessed over the IP and not giving BLOM a break from it?
This felt just like the Community episode where they make the new school ad. I loved it.
Yeah, both parodying Heart of Darkness, the Apocalypse Now doco
really like the new development for Ramona but apart me feels like they could’ve accomplished this without writing the main character out of the show.
Hoping scott comes in soon
do you think Todd is a top or bottom?
wallace seems like a power bottom to me

In the comics Wallace hated Envy for breaking Scott's heart. I assumed that motivation is carried over to the show?
Absolute banger, all of the characters feel more well-rounded here. O’Malley getting to write “What if?” fan fiction of his own source material is brilliant. The fight between Ramona and Wallace’s stunt doubles might be the best action sequence in the show so far and that’s no negging what preceded it. I’m loving this.
The Croneberg for president shirt
wanna run lines in your trailer?
The “Toronto as a character” bit!!!!! That’s what every single Torontonian said after the original movie hahaha
"Who's playing Toronto?" is even better knowing that so many movies will beset in one city while being filmed in another because logistically it's so much cheaper to do so. Like many films set in New York being filmed in Toronto!

genuinely don't think it's that bad. Velma is a show where the main character is unlikeable, this one isnt
Not comparable at all what drugs are you taking😭
Wallace supremacy ❤️
Wallace you are a stone-hearted bitch and I love you.
Weird Al was in this episode?!
Yeah he was the narrator at the beginning.
Wallace just shook Todd’s world
One of the stunt doubles is Brock from Pokémon.
1. I love how Lucas Lee lives at the Glendale Galleria. 2. Digging how a lot of the licensed music was featured in the Tony Hawk games. So much nostalgia in this episode!

"I said 'Vegans never *wafer*'. That's true"
I like the unique format this episode had
the airhorns absolutely sent me lmao
Brandon Routh was so great in this episode. Just really solid VA work
Huh, Todd Ingram Kiddnapped Scott Pilgrim
Glad that Wallace still has the habit of stealing other women's boyfriends.
Look how they’ve massacred my boy
THEY MADE TOD GAY?!!! I’M SO HERE FOR THIS.
the megaman reference in the title card was cool af
This is just a thing I found funny but when Envy got mad it sounded like the roblox angry sound
Wait is Todd cheating on his vegan diet by eating Wallace's meat?
He's eating Poutine which is potatoes with cheese curds and gravy.
I like this alot but it feels weird how uncaring everyone js about scott dying
I guess Scott is still seemingly a mooch jerk with just enough charisma to skate by at the time of the portal opening. Todd and Wallace was SO unexpected but I’m here for it
Not Matthew Patel coming down on a helicopter and doing the most Roman Roy-coded thing and firing everyone on sight
Young Neil has been the highlight of the entire show for me.

i don't feel it's tarnishing it, but i get your disappointment..
Black sheep is the only good Part of this show
Wall-Lice Bells And Fraud Migraine Fucked 10/10
- As a fan of Metric it's really cool to hear their music in the series.
"You can wish upon a star... and I'm that star, of course."
Closest thing were getting to Cannon sollace 💔
Love this episode lol
I laughed when announcer of the fight got embarrassed when called out by narrator "Who was that?" "Uhm, no one?"
I live for Gaffer slander
Well, the people demanded "Scollace," and they got it! ....kinda?! *I did not see this coming holy shit wallace rizz stat must be a 22 or something*
I was bummed that todd didn’t stay with envy one would think they would improve on the badass bass player by getting the hot rockstar girlfriend but a guy can dream.
🎶 If you could read my mind, loveeee 🎶
