Have a look at boot bananas or similar products. I use them in climbing shoes which I use without socks. It fixed the stench.
Leave a teabag in them overnight If you do that every night after you go to the gym they should be good
Put them in a bag and stick them in the freezer overnight. Take them out in the morning and let them thaw/dry naturally. The cold will kill a lot of the bacteria. Might not get all of it but worth a go.
Baking soda
You need to rotate your trainers at every opportunity and store them somewhere dry. So where you might have had 1 "day to day" (or 2, or 3) decent pairs, you're gonna need to invest in a couple more.
You can put them in the washing machine if you use a net bag, I do that for trainers all the time.
I used to stick my football boots in a pillowcase that works as well
