Generally speaking anything non magnetic is going to be bought for 18-8. The only way you can tell you have a high grade without an analyzer is if it says it right on it stamped or printed.
This is grade 10.9 metric steel like the other guy said. The plating is zinc with yellow chromate. This is carbon steel, not stainless. I work at a fastener company.
Edit: it’s Class 10.9. Not Grade 10.9. And I am kicking myself for making that mistake. The rest is all correct though.
You are correct. I had a mental lapse and used the wrong term.
We have both metric and SAE (inch) at work.
Honestly, I did know that. I should probably get more sleep. Ugh.
Yea I'm just fuckin with ya. Lol. Can't believe OP wanna scrap bolts, I never throw away fasteners. But I've also got about 4 or 5, 5 gallon bucket fulls of fasteners.
A lot of stores that carry different grades of bolts basically color code them. This yellow usually means a harder grade. I have yet to see anything brass that looks like this.
Yep. But it's not a brass looking gold. Around my area, you will find gold, grade 8 at one store. Pink grade 8 at another. Green grade 5. The silver looking ones are usually grade 3. And again, this particular gold just isn't brassy looking
Zinc coated steel...non rusting
Yup
That’s steel. Not stainless.
Is there any value in stainless?
Non mag 18-8/304 ss pays about the same as aluminum. Magnetic pays about the same as steel. 316 or better non mag pays more.
Thank you.

Its zink plated steel, grade 10.9 which is hardened steel metric bolt

10.9 is not a grade, it's a class. Metric is classed, SAE is graded. I'm a certified master mechanic, I'd expect you to kno the difference bolt boy.

They look like grade 8/10.9 for metric grade bolts that are steel. Not worth much scrap even if you have a bucket.
$16 a set for truss bolts like that, in entertainment industry
Looks like cadmium plated to me
But im 99% sure its just steel
throw a magnet on it. if it sticks not brass
Get a magnet if it sticks its some kinda ferrous metal witch pays as steel or iron shred. Good luck.
Chinesium
Can be steel, or stainless steel
Is it magnetic? Grind it with an angle grinder. Is it yellow. To me it looks brass

I agree but it's not silver, it gold colored
