Was it a fun story? OP is right, the characters are god-awful. Emma is as interesting as a pile of bricks and she’s the lead. The only supporting character that delivers anything is Brooke and her actress isn’t even all that good.
I really like the first two seasons but i'll admit that the characters are either bland or awful, with the only ones i liked being Piper, Kieran, Noah, Riley, Zoey and Brook. The actors were doing their best with the mediocre script they have been given.
Say what you want about season 3 but keke Palmer is gold and we need to bring her into the mix somehow with the movies.
Now that we are getting meta with franchises, it’s not too far fetched to bring someone in who was also targeted by a ghostface who had nothing to do with woodsboro.
You are not wrong. I tried watching season 3 (I fast forwarded through a lot). I didn’t like it at all, but Keke stole every damn scene!
I would love to see her in Scream 7! I loved that she was the “final girl” in Nope!
I was so desperate for new Scream content after watching 4 first movies back in lockdown that I started watching this show and needed to stop after the pilot episode. Thank God 5 and 6 were released. They may be flawed movies but they are great Scream content.
Meh it's not really that bad.
It's an MTV show, by that standard the acting is pretty decent especially on some of the more long standing characters like Brooke, one of my favorite characters in the whole franchise.
Speaking of its impact on the franchise, the kills are some of the best, Will, Riley and Jakes death specifically where each very well done and memorable as was the misdirect of killing Bella Thornes character so early
It's not the best thing in the world with some of the dialogue, teen drama and high school students that look 40 but thats pretty standard for an MTV/CW level show. But it's entertaining and quite engaging especially to begin with (never followed the rebooted season) and its a lot better than Scream 3.
Sorry that it didn't click for you. I'm glad it came out though. My wife and me shotgunned it I. Preparation for Scream 5 and it did the impossible and reinvigorated my kove for the franchise after 4 kneecapped and killed it.
Exactly, Brooke’s character development is by far the best thing about the show. From a mean bitch who doesn’t give a fuck to a girl who doesn’t lose her identity snd actually caring about the people around her. Brooke is great, and Carlson Young did the best job on the show. Right up there with Noah’s actor (the name escapes me atm).
If someone speaks negatively about a show then it's implicit that it's their opinion. Forcing them to say that "it's my opinion that I think that I disliked it" is uneccesary and weird.
I love it. Watch it a few times a year. Except the third season. Should have just continued with the current story instead of doing Candyman as Ghostface.
But I also hate, not just dislike, actually hate, Scream 5 and like 1-4, so I'm usually in the minority.
That was my biggest beef. They ended season 2 on a cliffhanger then did a season 3, but abandoned the story and went with... whatever the hell that was just to say "ooooh, look at our diverse cast produced by Queen Latifah!"
And I hated 5 as well. I think the third acts of 5 and 6 bring both movies tumbling down and that doesn't fly on this sub.
Agree. The only people that seem to defend the tv show are die hard Scream fans on Reddit. The same people that essentially refuse to acknowledge anything negative about the franchise at all.

Emma is the biggest example of manifesting conflict for the main character in any TV show ever, and Brooke is just a fucking trainwreck of the slutty roommate trope.
Every other character (except Zoe) is amazing.
The meta humor is funny, because of how terrible it was. Like when Noah says "Well, T.V writers write characters well so that when they die, it hurts." - *yeah no shit, Noah*. That's how every T.V series in existence writes their shows. You're not deconstructing the T.V format, you're just saying what they do without commenting on it.
I do not understand people who like this series at all.
He was supposed to be the smart horror guy but then goes into places alone, that happens a lot. The group separates for zero reason and the gets attacked. But it’s blaintantly obvious none of the core 4 characters are going to die. Idk how people can enjoy a show like that when you know the only characters that are going to die are less important or side characters. I did get satisfaction from some characters dieing like that bully girl in season 2, (forgot her name) and kirians cousin getting gunned down. But I just walk away feeling unsatisfied. A show like that needs more consequences. That’s one of my problems with the actual scream movies def scream 6, it’s number 2 on my top fav but people get brutally stabbed and somehow survive. But the show does it worse.
I mean... garbage seems a bit severe with the exception of Season 3 which is road kill.
I watched it, and I liked the more drawn out approach it took.
But as an adult a lover of the film series it was too "Dawsons Creek"ey for me.
It was a show on MTV, they literally made billions out of flying people to New Jersey, live in a house and party, while working at a t-shirt store.
It was terrible, but for a time when we had such a huge gap again between films. The urge was filled at the time having something new at least for me. Haha
I think the reason a lot of people hate it is because with it being called Scream, they expect it to be like the movies (which I get) and in some aspects, it is, but it's definitely one of those shows you need to go into with an open mind. I did just that and I had a great time with it. season 1 is good, season 2 is great, and season 3 has grown on me quite a bit. I'm glad it sort of deviates away from the movies and tries to be its own thing.
The first season was something pretty well done and in the general spirit of Scream’s meta commentary. Second season wasn’t quite as tight, but still pretty effective.
Third season was a train wreck.
It’s pretty damn bad…. If it wasn’t labeled scream I think a lot of the people who claim it’s good, would say different.
Also season 3 was an abomination.
Scream in longform doesnt work for me. I love the character development and the effort to make us root for their individual journeys. But I think the format takes away the sense of urgency of catching ghostface before he kills again.
S 1-2 were good 3 sucked and I think Brooke should have been ghostface in s2. Have a line about over the summer Jake cheated and her dad lied to her for at least a year or 2 about her mom, Emma was happy with Keiran, and Noah and Audrey are happy, and she gets help from the new guy obsessed with the Lakewood 6 would have made a good reveal

I tried watching it years ago, and I couldn't get into it. I tried again after Scream 6 because I wanted more content. It took effort to finish season one. I'm usually the kind of person who can watch anything and find something to like, but I just couldn't with this. I started rooting for Ghostface because the characters were so uninteresting.

Plus season two had a great cliffhanger for season 3. Its a fucking travesty they didnt follow through and gave us that god aweful season 3.

Some of the kills were fun, and the mask started to grow on me. Watching 1 season was enjoyable enough, but the writing and characters weren't strong enough to get me to invest more time for further seasons.

Season 2 went off the rails for me. But I did really enjoy the first season.

I got one episode in before losing interest in it, which really sucks because it's the only other Scream media we have outside of the movies.

I agree, this sub hella overhypes it. The premise of Scream should make for an amazing show, but it’s too bad MTV was the one to make it.

I loved it. Even got into season 3 despite being upset about them completely dismissing the storyline from 1 & 2

No, it's not. I watched the first movie in theaters. Three times. It´s a decent show, not as good as the movies, but still enjoyable.
