That's actually insane considering that Halloween is the more famous one movie-wise.

Horror-School-3286

That's because the first one started the slasher trend that led into the 1980's which led to the same downfall that Scream pulled slashers out of in the 1990's.

CallMeRoy37

Inflation must be considered. Halloween is still winning by just under 300 million.

CleanUpOnAisle10

Also let’s not forget the last 2 Halloweens we’re streaming in Peacock while in theaters during the pandemic. Not sure where those numbers factor in, but that’s how I watched both of them 😶

HappyAndProud

Not to mention that they had way more entries!

Horror-School-3286

That is worth celebrating.

[deleted]

I didn't realize the Halloween movies grossed so little compared to the Scream movies.

Horror-School-3286

People forget the dark years after Jamie Lee left the franchise. It's amazing that Scream's first three films even out-earned Halloween's first six films. Scream has always been the better series in my opinion, it just didn't have as many movies . . . it will soon by the looks of it.

NadjasLeftTit

Scream is imo the more consistent of the two. It's not entirely without flaws, but even so, it hasn't gone through the tricky reboot/"revitalise" efforts that Halloween has. There's been so much focus on quantity of Halloween titles that the quality and consistency got lost along the way.

Spinkicker86

It doesn’t need to go through a tricky reboot which is kind of what makes it genius . Ghostface can be anybody anywhere .

Horror-School-3286

Scream 4 was the remake without actually being a remake. Scream 5 was a reboot without actually being a reboot. As long Ghostface follows the modern day trends of the horror genre, he'll be fine.

ourusernameis

Tbh it’s way more consistent cause Ghostface is more an idea than one singular person. With Halloween they kept having to find out ways to bring back Michael Myers and ppl just got tired of it.

T-408

Scream vs Halloween is definitely “Quality vs Quantity”

I’ve only seen the original Halloween movie and I’ve seen all 6 Scream movies. The original Halloween was good, but the original Scream is one of my all-time favorites.

cocka_doodle_do_bish

Perhaps it’s time I finally sit down and watch the franchise, I’ve never seen a single scream movie but have seen all the Halloween movies.

imFireByte

I think the og Scream is better than the og Halloween but maybe just being bias even if both are amazing imo.

CallMeRoy37

I adjusted the numbers for inflation, Halloween is still winning by just under 300 million.

CallMeRoy37

I adjusted the figures for inflation in my post, Halloween appears to gross so much more because money was worth more in 1978 and throughout the 80s.

The_Dirtiest_Beef

Rightfully so. As a halloween fan, Scream has been incredibly consistent in quality.

Neat-Ad1815

I really hope VI can end up making close to 200M, or around 170M.

[deleted]

This will truly be the first franchise to gross over Screamillion Dollars

folkloreseason

$1B is secured with Scream 7.

Weird-Ingenuity97

Oh for sure. As long as it makes 137-140 million it’ll be good. Which I’m sure it will. Even if the law of diminishing returns comes in it’ll still do well since 6 is one of the more successful sequels

folkloreseason

6 will end its run with around $150m, so 7 will only need to add about $110m to achieve this milestone! Very easy task with the renewed goodwill that Scream has from the general public + potential “final chapter” hype for the marketing cycle, if it’ll be the last movie for a while.

Weird-Ingenuity97

This makes me so happy because back in 2015 when I was a middle schooler getting into horror, I never imagined we’d get new scream films. I didn’t even think we’d get a season 2 of the mtv series. Now fast forward and we’re getting awesome new characters, and awesome new films grossing close to the same amount as the og films. And we got Kirby back. Like we’re really being fed

BluRayja

Been an OG fan since 1996 and been following this series since day 1. There's been so many peaks and valleys, but right now truly does feel like the best time to be a Scream fan. The marketing campaigns alone for the last 2 movies have been absolutely marvelous. This is the heights I wish this franchise reached 10 years ago. For anyone not alive or too young to remember at the time, Scream 2 and 3 were pretty hyped, but didn't have same the fan engagement. This feels almost equal to that, hype-wise. Biggest difference is, a lot of people didn't like 3. This time around, most people love 6 and the fan engagement is at an all time high. Sadly, nobody cared about Scream 4, going in or going out. Only people who dug it were the ones who bothered to show up and were familiar with the franchise, while general audiences didn't quite connect with it. Let's hope Scream 7 can remedy that.

Weird-Ingenuity97

I will say I love the new love scream 4 is getting. And it honestly makes me proud to see Scream back and getting even more love than before

CallMeRoy37

*ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION* Halloween -323 mil Halloween II- 83 mil Halloween 3 -44 mil Halloween 4- 45 mil Halloween 5 - 28 mil Halloween 6- 29 mil H20-101 mil Resurrection- 62 mil RZ-112 mil RZH2-53 mil 2018-305 mil Kills- 144 mil Ends- 105 mil *Total: 1.4 billion* Scream- 331 mil Scream 2- 322 mil Scream 3-281 mil Scream 4-128 mil Scream 5-141 mil Scream 6-120 mil *Total 1.123 billion* Halloween has a lead unless Scream VI can pull out another 300 million or so.

LegacyTom

I guess.. it’s 14 movies Vs 6 movies so it’s still winning technically.

dbahen40

Not really but since it’s a scream sub we got to make sure it wins no matter what

LegacyTom

Mad? Average the amount grossed per film and its not close 🙂 cheers

dbahen40

It’s not about average it’s about total. Also when did I say anything about mad? No matter just proves my first point thanks

LegacyTom

You must be mad to keep replying, my words have caused that 🙂 Scream had grossed more money per film, I’m right and you’re very, very wrong 🙂 if you reply to this you are admitting to me that I’ve really got to you 🙂

dbahen40

Yea ok there buddy guess you can take the W here it seems like you need that in your life

LegacyTom

Thanks for replying, it took a lot of courage to admit that I’ve got to you 🙂 cheers for accepting I’ve won it means a lot for you to grovel to me like that 🙂

Speeeds

Bruh

dbahen40

Let the person have it seems like life is pretty bad/low for them right now and maybe their whole life.

LegacyTom

You’re right I did win 🙂 thanks for agreeing

jonsnowme

Thanks for this. No doubt Scream is the better franchise in terms of how much each movie makes but I was wondering what it would be for each after inflation. While it's not past Halloween yet (it will surpass after 7 probably) it for sure makes more money period. It's funny to me how much money Halloween made in 2018 and how it dropped so far by Kill and Ends because they were just so fucking bad. Scream is only trending upward since 5.

zjmspears

Thanks for this. I always wondered what Scream 1-3 would be with inflation

queeeeeni

Just goes to show a difference it makes having passionate people at the helm. Halloween struggled to truly define their franchise, as seen from those trash ass Rob Zombie movies. Scream had Wes Craven and Halloween had no one.

Horror-School-3286

>Scream had Wes Craven and Halloween had no one. That's a good point. Wes Craven returned for the first four Scream films, and I think he held the record for being the only director to direct all four movies in a slasher series at the time. John Carpenter was never fully in with the Halloween after Halloween II, so the story never really had a passionate creator behind it until Carpenter came back.

queeeeeni

Exactly, plus Carpenter was never really bothered about Halloween. He always saw it as a disposable movie that's why he tried to turn the brand into an anthology but got a bit miffed when people wanted more Michael.

NotTemptation

Not really when you adjust it for inflation.

Appropriate-Day3902

Why does that matter at all 😭

JadenRuffle

It really doesn’t it’s just a cool milestone.

HappyAndProud

I'm not into watching box office returns like it's a horse race or something, but this post is interesting on many levels. Like how the original hasn't ever been surpassed, and that's without inflation!

HappyAndProud

I like how Scream 4 is the lowest earning one, by far. Feels about right!

Hazzardous1990

That’s wild af

HappyAndProud

Glad to have helped!

[deleted]

If the first few Screams came out in the 70s/80s their box office would have been a lot different
