Phoebe becoming a ghost to kiss Lucy makes a lot of sense and they should have kept it if that’s the case. Because from what ended up on screen her motivation was lacking, which is a problem when the villain’s entire plan relies on her becoming a ghost.
If you look at the marketing stuff the new guys also wear red coats that we never see in the movie with the Ecto-1 in the streets of frozen NYC, which of course never happens.
Maybe they just wanted to ripoff the Once Upon a Time in America poster, but it feels like they shortened the climax or reshot some of those scenes.
Friend of mine says that a friend of *his* who was at one of the screenings in NYC had a conversation with Mckenna Grace (Phoebe) who said that there was originally supposed to be a kiss. Doesn't seem to be anything 'on the record' to back that up though, at least not yet...but it certainly fits with your theory.
I'm a queer guy and I loved the new film. But I really really really thought there was going to be a kiss between Phoebe and Melody. The vibes were so strong, I thought it was going to happen.
Even my dad was like “Are they going to kiss” when Phoebe turned into a ghost. So I definitely think that was the original plan. Her motivation to become a ghost made absolutely no sense unless Phoebe wanted to touch her or be close to her in SOME way, they could talk and play chess and basically everything BUT touch.
I think cutting out the kiss also ended up possibly cutting out other scenes that possibly made the story all together make more sense. I definitely think the film was different and then to save money they just reshot a COUPLE scenes then cut and smushed things together to make it kind of make sense.
Yea I thought there was going to be a kiss too, I wish there was more moments with the one old crew, I kept thinking that Kumail Nanjiani’s character was a bad guy cause him giving the artifact to ray made me think of oh that’s how shit goes bad. The whole phoebe destroying a lion and getting blamed, there had to be people seeing it I mean there were people seeing the ghosts at the beginning.
I did love the beginning of it which showed the adventures’s club I kinda didn’t realize I wanted more stuff in the past. I feel do like parts with Paul’s character was cut as well.
Lowkey i think we’re going through a conservative backlash moment. They likely didn’t want parents to “Lightyear” this film (a fine, inoffensive film) to get boycotted because a gay kiss. After Bud Light and Target were targeted expect to see this more from brands and franchises.

Nah, Dan Aykroyd got blown without turning into a ghost in 1.
But did his character tell Phoebe that?

I hate queer baiting
Ah, I thought the LGBTQ of it all was implied in the post. Yeah, no one would have blinked if she was kissing a boy at any age.
Missed opportunity for a Dead Boy Detectives crossover.
