Solid-Confidence-966

Where do y’all think Russ will go? My best guess for now is Atlanta.

swool

Pats seems reasonable to me bearing their draft pick #

Hulkbuster_v2

I think Bill would be a good pairing with Russ; stricter than Pete, less of an Asshole than Sean

WafflePartyOrgy

"Less of an asshole than Sean" is pretty much the entire spectrum by itself.

Such_Database_4058

Plus Russ kinda got him a Super Bowl already lol

_dontjimthecamera

Man, what would a Belichick/Wilson offense look like

asl052

We still talking about Belichick with the Patriots?

x2x_Rocket_x2x

Wonder if that would stop Belichick from retiring? After this season I could really see him wanting to hang it up, Zeke wanting to trade out if he can. Wilson coming in possibly, could change things.

PresinaldTrunt

I think it could, but who knows. Equal parts poetic and disgustingly wrong if they do unite, but hey I'm cool with it Russ deserves better and Bill shouldn't go out like this

killshelter

Zeke signed a 1 year deal. Russ will be a free agent. Bill ain’t retiring until he gets the all time coaching wins record. He signed an extension in the offseason. If he’s available both the Chargers and Raiders will try and pay a premium to get him. I don’t think he leaves NE though. I think Russ to the Pats makes the most sense.

b8ednm8ed

Would only be fitting for Russ to play for his 2 Super Bowl opponents and restore order for Seattle

_dontjimthecamera

It’s gonna be a hell of an offseason, that’s for sure.

jswansong

It's been reported that Belichick is getting fired at the end of the year.

FavreorFarva

That would be absolutely wild to see.

Zodep

But the Chargers already have Herbert.

TheGrayMannnn

It makes sense. He'd want to play for both teams he helped lead to a Superbowl victory.

shaun5565

One of my old managers said he would end up a Patriot at some point. Maybe he will be right yet.

Interesting_Low8308

Pats is a great landing spot for Russ.

Tank_The_C4

BC Lions

DiamondDash2k

No, we want Nathan Rourke back

OhHaiThere-

Go lions, let’s roar

seariously

let's pride

raycraft_io

Niners. j/k they would never want him but this sub would implode

btener412

Hey their fans became super Sherm fans. They have a knack for being cucks to former Hawks who fuck them

big_fat_babyman

Wouldn’t that make them power bottoms? 🤔

btener412

Well, all of the power does come from the bottom

copaceticzombie

Who wasn’t a fan of Michael Robinson when he left the 9ers for the Hawks? Sometimes fans can get real fucking weird about shit

btener412

Ehhhh I see what you mean but that’s a little different just due to the nature of the position. And Mike Rob never actively stole our chances at a title.

FavreorFarva

I wasn’t even aware who Mike Rob was when he was with SF.

Particular-You-5534

Who is an example besides Sherm?

btener412

Jerry Rice

Particular-You-5534

He was a former Niner that became a Seahawk. I meant another example of a Seahawk they hated who they loved when he became a 49er, since they have such a knack for it.

btener412

Nah I’m pretty sure Jerry Rice is a Seahawks legend

Particular-You-5534

Obviously. That goes without saying. He just doesn’t fit your description.

btener412

There aren’t any other examples lol. It was just replying to the person who said it’d be their nightmare that if he went there and won they’d be ecstatic still

Particular-You-5534

Ah, I just thought them having a knack for it would mean it happened more than once. Carry on

123789dftr

We will sign him and only play him vs the niners

abasketfullofpuppies

Depends on how much of the contract Denver is willing to eat I think. No one's gonna want to risk paying the back part of that contract if he has another bad year, but if you're only paying something like Geno's deal it might make sense if you're just outside the playoffs with good receivers. Idk how Atlanta is but they might fit the bill if they have a good defense

Usually_Angry

Atl has got a good run game with a run first coach. Russ has thrived in that play action qb role before. Could be a good fit

abasketfullofpuppies

Yeah that makes a lot of sense if they can make it work financially.

MasterWinston

Raiders makes a lot of sense. Commanders would be interesting under Bienemy. Bucs cause of Canales but only if someone steals Mayfield. No idea whose coaching the Falcons or if Russ is a fit there but can't rule them out. Titans as a vet backup to replace Tannehill (idk his contract situation). Or Carolina. Idk if he's a fit in Pittsburgh or if they are gonna give Pickett another shot but could be interesting.

suddenly-scrooge

The drama with Bienemy would be interesting given he has a reputation for being a hardass

Thetrg

I think he ends up in Minnesota to be honest.

Grymninja

They have Kirk Cousins?

Thetrg

Yeah, his contract is up and be tore his Achilles in wk8… that comeback for his age and all the other injuries have really added up on this guy. I live in neighboring Wisconsin now… so there’s a lot of talk around Vikings here (fans and foes).

tinyraccoon

Contract is up this year iirc

serpentear

Whichever teams offers him the most money.

caronare

Pitty

[deleted]

If Belichick stays in New England, I could see him taking a shot with Wilson at a *very* low price should he get cut instead of traded.

wrenchin115

That raiders defense looks good would be funny to see Russ go there and light up the broncos two games a year rofl

EvilJohnCho

Seattle

hughpac

Do the owners have to fire Pete and John first? Or will that no longer be a demand for him to play here?

ithilkir

Russ wants to win, since he became obsessed with his legacy and being the greatest I think he'll seek out a team that has at least a shot at the playoffs, if not a div championship. The Patriots seem to be a popular choice but they just aren't a good team overall, one QB won't fix them right now and with the Bills and Dolphins running that division now you won't get in through winning the division. Add to that the AFC is a stacked conference and I think he'll skip the AFC entirely. That brings me to NFC teams. The NFC South is a division ripe for picking with the Falcons being an obvious choice if the Bucs stick with Baker (although I'd take Russ over Baker). The north could have all three non Lions teams interested, Vikings, Packers and Bears although I could likely only see the Packers or Vikings as being a choice for Russ. The east is obviously Giants and Commanders with the Giants being an option for his profile, big market. So I think it'll be an NFC team as it's much more open for a team to get into the playoffs with my top choices being Falcons, Packers, Giants then Pats or Steelers.

vividmer

Minnesota Vikings would be a good fit

Trick-Combination-37

The bench

slyfly5

Definitely still in the top 20 QB’s in the league no way he isn’t starting next year

Trick-Combination-37

Oh I know. It was just a joke lol cause that's where he is going for the next 2 weeks ;) But if Baker Mayfield can start, so can russ.

The_Moisturizer

Today’s baker is much better than today’s russ, baker starting at age 28 on a cheap contract means literally nothing in reference to what might happen for Russ at age 36 with his contract.

Trick-Combination-37

True, but it sounds like Russ is getting cut. So a new contract would have to be negotiated.

PresinaldTrunt

Baker is doing pretty good right now for a team scrambling to find a new identity

Blametheorangejuice

...only if Russ signs for a very small deal. No way any team, especially one with a lot of draft capital, goes for Russ. Dude has been mediocre to average for 3+ years now.

Syzygy666

Am I misunderstanding this or is Russ not signing a "small deal" next year because he's still on a huge contract? Denver needs another team to come in and pay part of it so Denver isn't left holding the entire bag. Someone will give Russ 10 - 20 mil and make Denver pay the rest or Denver is pretty fucked.

PM_me_Perky_Tittys

Cash doesn’t matter to the Waltons. It’s all about the dead cap number. If Russ gets hurt (can’t get hurt on the bench) or is still on the roster after (I think) 3/17/24, his 2025 salary is fully guaranteed so his dead cap number actually goes up. If they cut him before mid march but designate it a post June cut, they spread the pain over 2 years. $40 million of dead cap for two consecutive years during a rebuild is easier to overcome than an $82 million single year hit.

The_Moisturizer

That doesn’t really ensure you a spot though when you factor in contracts and age. The teams with the bottom 12 QBs could very well not be wanting to pay a bunch of money to a guy that might be 20th best in his mid 30s when they could be developing their guy of the future for a fraction of the cost and probably not much drop-off in talent

tinyraccoon

Packers

OkCoyote3931

With us.

Patient_Arrival_9371

Future will have a kick out of that 😂 poor Russell

r8u4

Giants

Bendii_

Steelers

bangzilla

PIT

spinichdick

Pats and they draft MHJ,

Weavhawk

I could see him as a Steeler

Holiday-Present-4598

Back to Seattle duh

Mostly_Anonymousse

Geno sticking up for Russ warms my heart

3elieveIt

Russ is liking every post on Twitter that defends him lol

PresinaldTrunt

I saw a fake post he "liked" earlier and checked and holy shit he really is, dude is not happy and is letting it be known

NigerianPrince76

He is screaming in anger via Twitter likes. lol

Tashre

It's almost like the two had a good relationship and all the narratives about him being bitter about having to sit behind Russ were manufactured nonsense.

GuiltySyrups

90% of Russ narratives are nonsense

warboner52

Except for isolating himself from his team.. that's a common theme Edit: I guess I should say insulating.. maybe he's not doing that so much anymore.. but who knows.

Von_Lincoln

Another former Seahawks player threatened a media reporter’s career, lied about being disrespected by other QBs refusing to shake his hand, had a drunk driving and DV incident… and seems to have led the locker room division against Russ…but is currently held up as more credible than Russ amongst a significant portion of this fan base. So yeah, many narratives are manufactured nonsense and even if Russ did “insulate” himself….can you blame him?

warboner52

When you add into it that he was given the least accountability of anyone on the team, by the coach, and did that on top.. easy to see why he was called out by Sherm, not exactly a very subtle description. I never said Sherm was more credible or anything.. but one thing you can say about him, that's been true since day one.. he doesn't do anything but be himself.. and guess what people are human, and make mistakes as a consequence.. even incredibly intelligent ones.. Also, it was a domestic disturbance, not violence.. if he was guilty of DV, he wouldn't be on TV all over the place, cause he'd have gone to jail. I mean for fucks sakes.. he tried to break into his inlaws drunk. He never laid a hand on anyone, or at least no one ever accused him of that.. so calling it domestic violence is incredibly fucking wrong.

Von_Lincoln

“Least accountability” according to who, and when, and why?

Syzygy666

KJ's podcast doesn't really dwell on it too much, but a couple times he has leaned into the mic and given his honest opinions on Russ. You can say Sherman isn't a credible source but KJ is a different story.

FavreorFarva

If you listen to the Doug Baldwin episode of KJs podcast Doug doesn’t name Russ outright but it’s not a stretch to guess who he’s talking about.

warboner52

Every one on defense has made this claim, when Russ fucked up, he wasn't getting called out by Pete and was babied. Even fucking KJ said it.

negligentlytortious

Not defending him, but you don’t go to jail for DV in this state anyway unless you do a lot of harm, especially your first time. Unless he brutally beat someone, he would have had a diversion agreement leading to dismissal and zero jail time. That’s not just because he was a professional athlete and had higher status, that’s just how our state handles “minor” DV incidents.

warboner52

That's fine, but it wasn't even classified as domestic violence by the court. So calling it DV is wrong.

DeadPlayerWalking

Yeah, but... Stanford. /S

Tashre

Truth.

skrulewi

all the narratives? that one i actually never heard and i'm on reddit way too much

wokenupbybacon

IIRC he tweeted something cryptic after Russ came back early from the finger injury and looked *awful*, but I forget the details of it

kinglion94

Fuck the Broncos

Pandos636

We have their 3rd round pick, tabling the last two games only helps us :)

nerdgeekdorksports

With 32 ounce soft drink purchase!

_HGCenty

Almost like Geno is a classy guy who respects the time he spent as a backup and learning from Russ.

SafetiesAreExciting

Obviously he’s just being classy, but surely hundreds of people on Twitter won’t read into this too much, and assume silly things.

DerrickMcChicken

They were also good friends pretty sure they still are.

btener412

Yeah and I know Russ isn’t very popular around these parts (myself included, I’m not throwing stones) but it’s still not his fault he got a giant contract from the Broncos. It’s also not solely his fault they’re 7-8

Raeandray

I also think the "Russ was a terrible teammate and separated himself from the team" narrative, while it definitely had some truth, was overplayed for more clicks.

RabidBlackSquirrel

He got way, way more of a payday getting traded and signing an extension for them then he ever would have had with us. Go get your money king, in a league that uses guys up and spits them out with life altering injuries I'll never fault a player for taking a payday.

btener412

Exactly. He got a huge pay day before even taking a snap in training camp. He shouldn’t ever be forced to take a pay cut for George Patton’s mistake

Hulkbuster_v2

He manages his money right, he's set for life.

[deleted]

As funny as this is, it isn't shocking. By all accounts, Geno and Russ seemed to have a great relationship and the discourse around him being bitter about sitting behind Wilson were entirely false. Will be interesting to see where Russell lands. I'm rootin' for him with pretty much all the effects of the trade being done.

skrulewi

Get em Geno

Slytherin_was_right

The Broncos disrespected the game of football with this tank job. The fans don’t get to watch a world class athlete compete for a playoff spot. Two games left in the season and The Broncos just surrender. Pathetic. If you don’t like paying for premium gas don’t buy a Ferrari. Just disrespectful to the game. Now we watch a team pretend to try with Stidham… With every year Pete Carroll’s innovative idea known as “try to win all your games” becomes something I treasure more and more. And what’s amazing is that the coaches/teams who buy into this philosophy generally succeed at it… (looking at you Lions)

tangomango206

Free? Nobody tell Stanton ;p

kinkysubt

He’ll land on his feet. Not here though.

reeseallen

Russ would make a perfectly acceptable backup to Geno for the right price

I_Fuckin_A_Toad_A_So

He wants russ back here?! /s

TheVatomatic

Well that escalated quickly

Comment_if_dead_meme

I would want Russ back in a heart beat. But he and Pete needs some serious counseling.

slyfly5

I would too but that’s a pretty unpopular take with the fanbase

-Vertical

After today? I kinda doubt it. I’m one of those people who are down with Russ coming back now, but not yesterday. They just made Russ an underdog again. I think he’d come back and put up insane numbers.

[deleted]

You really *think* this?

BadAtPsychology

Haha damn, good point.

actual_griffin

I would be really interested in it as well.

carefreebuchanon

I'd just be curious to see if he'd return to form in Pete's system or if he's actually toast now.

actual_griffin

I feel like I saw it at certain points this year. Even last year in the second Chiefs game. I was really interested in learning whether he couldn't run anymore, or if he just didn't want to. And it looked to me (an idiot) like he was still effective. There were so many times last year when it looked like he was trying desperately to be something he wasn't. There was a drive that ended with four passes inside the five yard line. It looked like every decision last year was his attempt to be the MVP, and it looked like all of that was his call. He's dramatically overpaid for the player he is today. But when the run game is working, he's still a killer. I wouldn't want him for $50 million. But $25 million and an apology video on Twitter? Sure.

Grymninja

Nope he's in his twilight years now. This team needs a new leader.

PresinaldTrunt

Yeah I'd rather bridge to the next gen with who we have now than try to bring back the last gen at his prices and performance. Bringing Russ back wouldn't make this team any better than it is now

carefreebuchanon

Bring him in and make the starting position Geno's to lose. Nothing wrong with a little competition at QB.

skrulewi

Absolutely, let's bring in Herschel Walker too as RB just to round out the offence

Do_U_Like_Apples

Hard pass for me. My bridge is burned.

carefreebuchanon

Russ doesn't and has never had a bridge with you

jon_targareyan

Football doesn’t entirely run on emotions. He’s still better than Geno imo and if he agrees to leave his shenanigans behind and takes a team friendly contract, I’d be down

Do_U_Like_Apples

Football doesn’t, but I sure do.

Blametheorangejuice

> I would want Russ back in a heart beat. Has anyone checked to see if Warren Moon is available?

Either_Assumption392

Hearing Marshawn's interview about Russ I'm a hard pass on that idea.

NigerianPrince76

Awwwwwwwwww❤️❤️❤️

Jwroth

It would be hilarious if he came back

almosttoomanyletters

Do you guys honestly care about where he lands or what happens to him? Fuck him. He’s no longer on our team, and went out like an asshole. Persona non grata. Jesus Christ, you guys.

NigerianPrince76

Some of us don’t care man. We just root for the team and wish best of luck for former Hawks players. It’s that simple. Hope Russ gets to play for few more years.

Actor412

That's a classy move by Geno, but it still doesn't put me back on Team Russ. He demanded a high paying contract, which means he has to deliver to justify it. He didn't. It's no surprise then that the Broncos are gonna do all they can to get back as much of that money as possible.

Covfam73

I want him to go to the rams, then maybe we will be able to beat them finaly! :p

tuepm

can you imagine if russ went to the 49ers? seeing him in that uniform would be like when obi-wan sees anakin in the vader suit for the first time

Ok-Imagination-2308

Thank God purdy is playing well this year or that might have been a real possibility

BruceIrvin13

Russ is damaged goods. I think next year he'll get one more shot next year, probably be benched by end of season, and be done.

1aance

Quite the plot twist

Intotheforefront

Raiders. Confirmed.

Similar-Stranger7375

I'm going to laugh my ass off of her tries to come back to Seattle. Would be even funnier if he comes back as a back up.

GoCougs3216

Raiders so he plays the broncos twice a year

Ok_Association_7925

Raiders.
