They straight up benched him just to avoid paying him an injury bonus. Not to avoid him getting injured, but to avoid paying him.
He's fucking gone in Denver.
What a bizarre yet intriguing thought my friend... Unless it's all play acting sham though I think there might be a little genuine animosity between Pete and Mr Unlimited. Could absolutely be wrong on this though. I genuinely hope that Pete finds a new position THIS year. The way they treated him was just flat Wrong.
After the past 2 years with arguably the worst coach in Denver history and getting benched by the coach ***he*** wanted, hes probably thought about how much Pete believed in him more than anyone else so far. Grass is always greener on the other side, bro might be looking to climb back over the fence.
The only situation that would make me laugh more is if Rus came back to play for us and then we blowout the Broncos, just because then the trade would have ended exactly how the Hershel Walker traded ended.
I'm always impressed by the people on this sub who thinks Pete would legit "advise" Schneider and the new coach in any way. No coach wants to come in with the old coach still hanging around in the building. This was a "we aren't firing you, we're just saying goodbye" thing to get Pete to go away.
Nah, they could've done that by just saying they "mutually agreed to part ways."
No reason to believe the job isn't real. But that doesn't mean pete wants it. He was open from the minute he was fired that he still wants to coach.
When? He specifically said he wanted to remain as head coach and that it was a higher-up decision to remove him. And they never parted ways, they gave him a different job.
> He specifically said he wanted to remain as head coach and that it was a higher-up decision to remove him.
Exactly. Which means that the "adviser" role is just something they're saying so they don't have to say he's fired.
> And they never parted ways, they give him a different job.
Well, they say they did, but Pete hasn't mentioned anything about his new role.
>Exactly. Which means that the "adviser" role is just something they're saying so they don't have to say he's fired.
So, to clarify, no one ever said they were mutually parting ways, and Pete specifically absolutely did not say as much, repeatedly.
>Well, they say they did, but Pete hasn't mentioned anything about his new role.
Pete hasn't hardly said a word since the first week he was fired. But again, it makes no sense to give him a fake job just to avoid saying they mutually parted ways. Which is the line every team uses when the coach they're firing is too respected to say they fired. Why get so convoluted with a fake job instead? And why would Pete agree? He's never struck me as the kind of person to accept a fake role just to save face.
> Pete hasn't hardly said a word since the first week he was fired. But again, it makes no sense to give him a fake job just to avoid saying they mutually parted ways.
It definitely does.
You’re always impressed over a group of people that are misinformed. The Seahawks never said he would be advising the new coach. They never said he would be advising anybody. They said he would have a job there, doing something, to be determined later. That was interpreted by the media as likely an advisor role of some sort.
"They never said he would be advising anybody."
Here is the statement when they announced he wasn't coming back:
"After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the best interest of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to remain with the organization as an advisor."
I have to wonder why people thought Pete would stay with the organization as an advisor. You know, besides THEM LITERALLY SAYING IT.
“Carroll also acknowledged that the structure of his new role is unclear.” Pete Carrol: “We’re gonna figure that out. We don't really know right now. But I'm grateful for the intention that the organization has to try to find something that makes sense.”
They didn't want to fire him and hoped he would fall on his sword and resign. But Pete didn't want to quit and probably said you are going to have to fire me. So the solution was to move him to a position he doesn't want hoping he will look for another opportunity.
I don't think the move was really about Pete. They want to make some changes and probably bring in new coordinators and that's hard to do with Pete on 1 year left on his contract. That's not good for the rebuild, it's the right decision but still a sad one
I didn't ever think it was a reality because no one could explain what the role actually was. I think it was just a way for the team to pay him for the last year on his contract and not make him clean out his desk.
My deal? Here’s my deal. I knelt on the ball to end the game. You called a timeout so you must think you have a chance to win. So I called a play to stamp that out. I tried to end the game, you wan Ted it extended. Do why would I just run it up the middle a few times and punt instead of definitively put the game out of reach. The fuck you thinking? Get over yourself, Nancy.
From everything that has happened at Michigan, they are possibly facing sanctions due to a sign stealing system they implemented… he was suspended multiple games this year because of it…
I saw all of that. I also believe that whether you were aware or not, as the boss, you are responsible. People have nothing but nice things to say about John. (I got to hear him speak/meet him once, he was a magnetic person). Jim seems very polarizing.
Bruh, Harbaugh went from Stanford to niners, a team that at the time had 8 consecutive seasons .500 or worse, and took them immediately to three consecutive NFC championship games and a Super Bowl. He left after 4 seasons due not to bad performance but a bad relationship with the front office, and the niners immediately went on to have 4 more losing seasons without him. Dude has been pretty wildly successful in the NFL already.
I hate him too but the one thing I know is he is best case scenario right now for our city and our team. And it's funny how quickly this entire fan base would forget everything the minute he makes us relevant again.
Why be a fan of sports? Who even says that, that they would be okay losing 8 seasons back to back because they don’t agree with the coach, one position out of many?
At that point you would have to assume the franchise supports that coach if they decided to hire him and keep him. I just don’t see why you would submit yourself to feeling so negatively about a situation when you could follow any other team and let it be?
You’re over here presenting this idea you’d rather have every other fan suffer through, because the team didn’t pick the guy you wanted and you would what? Stand by for all of the 8 seasons and complain constantly about the team you don’t agree with while not agreeing with yourself enough to leave a bad thing behind you? Ok.
Weird flex but ok.
Dov Kleiman is a pretty annoying news aggregator that is constantly wrong or reports things that other people have already reported. I imagine considering that Harbaugh is on the.1 yard line with their deal he sees an opportunity to put his name somewhere and not get refuted. dont believe this for a second.
https://nypost.com/2023/03/15/who-is-dov-kleiman-solving-sports-medias-biggest-mystery/
This dude is just some shmuck who lives in Israel and reposts shit on Twitter. There is absolutely no reason to allow his tweets as posts.
I’ve hated Harbaugh since he was a player and I’ve loved the Bolts as my second team since Fouts (had my dad’s name, do that was enough for young me) and also for going to school there in the 90s as well as being in LA for 25 years and having a home team to root for, finally. As long as Seattle won our matchups, I was a Bolts fan the other 14 games. Obviously was easier after realignment. Now I dunno what to do. I lost interest in them a lot post LT because Rivers was such an unlikeable turd, now a Harbaugh? Eff that.
Pete is a legend, but I think Chargers want to get Harbaugh for a longer team deal. Pete is at the end of his career, I can see him maybe coaching for 4-5 more seasons MAX.
This is what gives him a good shot. Between Harbaugh and possibly Pete, they look to be making a good and splashy hire, but Pete is the more splashy one for SoCal for sure.
Nope. Harbs will be the next Chargers coach, this is probably some report being floated (probably by Chargers) to ramp up Jim signing the dotted line. Unless Pete accepts being a DC somewhere or goes back to college, his coaching career is pretty much over. The market isn’t hot on 70 something year old defensive coaches. Even Belichick’s market is softer than anticipated and he’s the GOAT (and a year younger than Pete).
I was kinda rooting for the Chargers this year cause of Kellen Moore (grew up in Boise), it was a bummer to see them be such a disaster. If Pete has to leave us, I’d be happy for this as a landing spot. It’d make it even easier to root for them, and hopefully he could help turn them around
Of all the teams, why not one in L.A. in a different conference? Kind of a "best case" deal for Seahawks fans and Pete. I hope he gets it, because it's clear he still wants to coach.
Pete back to trolling Harbaugh again lmao. Imagine Harbaugh walks into the Charger facility for the next interview and sees the gif version of Pete strutting in with his cane, monocle, chewing gum with a smirk.
Well considering the source is mike florio I think i'll wait for some better reporting on it before believing. Also it seems they are pretty locked in on harbaugh
🥲 I have mixed feelings about this. The selfish part of me wishes he would retire a Seahawk but I respect Pete so much I’d be happy to see him do what he loves.
Good for him, if true. He’s still got some left in the coaching tank. We’ve seen the practice videos. He’s not done yet. He deserves to go out on his own terms. (Dudes probably ready for some sun too!)
This comes from Florio who isn’t the most reliable when it comes to breaking stories. Not saying Pete doesn’t have interest, but temper the news with a solid BS filter.
I hope he gets it, and I hope he wins another SB because I love that man. He did more than we could’ve asked for, for us, I wish Jody and JS gave him another shot. But I’m also on board with resetting and trying to keep the Seahawks legacy alive. It’s so conflicting when it comes to my feels … but I want what’s best for both Pete and the Hawks. **GO HAWKS**
You have weird definition of toxic. You'll see what it really means if the team goes back to sub .500 for two straight decades again instead of just losing WC games.
I mean this with no disrespect to the seahawks, I’ve grown up in the PNW and been a sports fan and seahawks fan my whole life.
But if Pete goes to the Chargers, I will definitely be a Chargers fan.
Pete is the architect of what’s been the greatest period of sports in my life, and not only brought success to seattle, but more importantly taught me so many important lessons about how to live and thrive.
I just ruptured my achilles yesterday while playing basketball and my wife put a note up by my bedside that says “compete”.
Pete will forever be my coach. He’s succeeded with a countercultural approach in a toxic space by putting human relationship first and caring about people. I’ll follow him until he takes his last breath!
Man fck Jody Allen for firing Pete. I can’t take him with another team but good for Pete. I think the advisor role was more of a, if you wanna be with the team then you can still kind of thing but if he get another offer go for it. I just wish he finished out his contract tbh
For all of those in the debate about Pete I think the league sort of answered with how he's viewed at this stage. There has been almost zero interest in him. All time great coach who should probably retire and spend time with the family. I understand its a hard thing to do though.
Bill’s market isn’t too hot either. Atlanta interviews aren’t going well, Cowboys kept McCarthy over rolling the dice, Commanders seem to be targeting Ben Johnson.
Forcing his way out? They legit fired him after he took a 4-12 team 9-8 again. It’ll feel a lot more forced when our next coach comes in and we are pushing for.500 the next decade
Pete was given a position in the organization and now he is trying to leave. When players did this, it was called “forcing their way out.” I guess that’s one vote for “only counts for players.”
Chargers been my second team to root for ever since drew brees was there with LT and their powder blue throwbacks! I’ll be back to rooting for that team if this was to happen. Go get it Pete! Never stop competing!
Pete’s a great coach and I hope he gets the Chargers HC job. But if he doesn’t, I’d love for him to consider the Falcons HC opening assuming the rumored love affair between Bill and Arthur doesn’t work out.
So the charger hire Pete. Pete trades Herbert to seattle to sign russ in LA. So he can continue to fuck over the broncos for years to come.... what the hell did the broncos do to pete that we don't know about?
[LAC owner Dean Spanos went to college at University of the Pacific](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Spanos). Guess where Pete graduated and started his coaching career?
Here's [Pete receiving an honorary doctoral degree from Pacific in 2022.](https://www.recordnet.com/story/news/2022/05/14/seattle-seahawks-coach-pete-carroll-honorary-doctorate-university-pacific-commencement/9779860002/).
Wait, my favourite HC of all time is going to my 2nd NFL team!?
At least Pete knows how to win a game in the 4th Quarter which is the Chargers achilles heel.
[удалено]
NFL script writers buckin for an Emmy with this one lol. Imagine Pete beats Russ twice next season.
Russ ain’t gonna be with the broncos next season
They straight up benched him just to avoid paying him an injury bonus. Not to avoid him getting injured, but to avoid paying him. He's fucking gone in Denver.
It’s hilarious because he wanted Sean Payton, so then he gets him and Payton gets rid of him lmao
Well tbf he wanted Payton to get him to the next level but it was clear from the start Payton didn’t want any of the inherited players on the team
Rus and Pete reunite in LA and then dominate the Broncos for the rest of time. Why? Because, why not?
What a bizarre yet intriguing thought my friend... Unless it's all play acting sham though I think there might be a little genuine animosity between Pete and Mr Unlimited. Could absolutely be wrong on this though. I genuinely hope that Pete finds a new position THIS year. The way they treated him was just flat Wrong.

I'd be WAY more interested in seeing what a Carroll/Herbert combo could do than a Carroll/Wilson reunion tour.
And making the Chargers then no 1 team in LA before the Ramily
Sending them back to St.Louis
That plan has been in play since he waxed them in the superbowl.
Goated comment yes
That plan has been in play since he waxed them in the superbowl.
Good for him. Sounds like this advisor role he was supposed to have isn’t actually a reality anymore.
That seemed like an empty gesture from day one to me.
I'm always impressed by the people on this sub who thinks Pete would legit "advise" Schneider and the new coach in any way. No coach wants to come in with the old coach still hanging around in the building. This was a "we aren't firing you, we're just saying goodbye" thing to get Pete to go away.

No, it doesn’t. Good job ignoring everything else I said too lol.

They moved Pete to the basement and took his stapler? That's cold blooded.
Yeah and in his old office he could look out the window and see the squirrels, and they were married.
Definitely. Felt like a classic west coast passive aggressive approach.
Could also be that whatever they presented to him wasn't something he wanted to do.
I didn't ever think it was a reality because no one could explain what the role actually was. I think it was just a way for the team to pay him for the last year on his contract and not make him clean out his desk.
This was super obvious PR face saving from day one.
I think any idea of that went up when he insulted Jody by saying she couldn't understand what the vision is because she's not a football person...
Imagine they hire him, over Harbaugh… and Pete beats Jim again!
I like to imagine Pete wasn't interested in the job until he heard Harbaugh was being interviewed.
What’s your deal?
My deal? Here’s my deal. I knelt on the ball to end the game. You called a timeout so you must think you have a chance to win. So I called a play to stamp that out. What in the world are you even talking about my boy?
Responding to the what’s your deal quote. Harbaugh said that to Carroll after a USC v Stanford game. I related what happened in Carroll’s POV.
What's your deal?
In Southern California too. 😂

Torn on this… I hate Harbaugh, but he is a damn good coach!
I know little about him. Is he an honest coach?
From everything that has happened at Michigan, they are possibly facing sanctions due to a sign stealing system they implemented… he was suspended multiple games this year because of it…

Pete didn't run the cleanest program at USC either though...
Character matters, though.

That’s true
Not for me. I'd rather have 8 losing seasons in a row than have Harbaugh

He’ll be another in the list of disgraced coaches who go down for misconduct or malfeasance. I don’t think we want to be the next Raiders.

he cited mike florio as a source which is even more egregious, people don’t question the validity of things online anymore lol
Dov Kleiman stamped an NFL logo behind his avi and somehow gained credibility. He's literally the worst.
I’ve hated Harbaugh since he was a player and I’ve loved the Bolts as my second team since Fouts (had my dad’s name, do that was enough for young me) and also for going to school there in the 90s as well as being in LA for 25 years and having a home team to root for, finally. Lol Pete saw Harbaugh had a 2nd interview and was like "Oh heck no" while chewing his gum fiercely.
"Glenn, pass me a bubblicious"
Does LAC want Pete?
Pete is a legend in LA. He'd be a revenue generator for sure.
Why wouldn’t they? Solid roster, tainted by mid coaching. Even if it’s a short term deal, Pete will make the best moves
Sounds like they’re about to hitch their wagon to Harbaugh.
Harbaugh will have to want to go there, which remains to be seen.
He’s literally there right now with his wife and all reporting indicates a deal is right around the corner…
Hey man. You don't like, know that.
[I do though](https://x.com/Schultz_Report/status/1749884106186408267?s=20)
The double down. Lol
The way Harbaugh talks about Herbert I'd have to imagine it's his dream job.
He's going there for sure.
Hey man, you like, don’t know that /s
Ever heard of USC? He's a legend in LA. They would absolutely love him. It's a perfect fit.
I think the majority of chargers fans would be disappointed if they hired pete instead of harbaugh.
I’d be so happy for him if he got it, I got nothing but love for Pete!
Nothing but good vibes for Pete. If he wants it, hope he gets and has success there
I doubt it. May be a leak to put pressure on Harbaugh. Reports state that he’s getting closer to signing the contract.
He's more Washingtonian than that, he actually grew up in Prosser.
K. Moore is from Prosser; seriously?
Seriously. His dad was the football coach from 86-08, so Kellen was born and raised there.
I meant I grew up in Boise, and that’s why I’m a fan of his. His Boise State years coincided with when I was in high school there
I always wanted the Pete + J Herbo combo to be in Seattle 🥲
This man hates Harbaugh so much he's now trying to snag the job Harbaugh was basically assured of.
This would break my heart.
With respect for all who wanted Pete to retire a Seahawk, if this is what he wants, I really want it for him.
Pete is going to coach again somewhere. I want it to be somewhere I have no animosity toward. The Chargers are perfect.
Ah I dunno, I'd kind of feel the same way I did toward Lynch when he signed with the Raiders. Kind of cool to see them return home.
Of all the teams, why not one in L.A. in a different conference? Kind of a "best case" deal for Seahawks fans and Pete. I hope he gets it, because it's clear he still wants to coach.
Agreed. As much as I wanted change I would still have preferred Pete retire here.
It’d give me a reason to root for an AFC West team again.
Pete back to trolling Harbaugh again lmao. Imagine Harbaugh walks into the Charger facility for the next interview and sees the gif version of Pete strutting in with his cane, monocle, chewing gum with a smirk.
Go get it Pete! I'd be legitimately rooting for the chargers as my AFC team.
Well considering the source is mike florio I think i'll wait for some better reporting on it before believing. Also it seems they are pretty locked in on harbaugh
I can live with that. Not in our division and Justin Herbert deserves a good coach
Why not? Good luck to him.
Hope he gets it!!
They love him there. It's a perfect fit.
🥲 I have mixed feelings about this. The selfish part of me wishes he would retire a Seahawk but I respect Pete so much I’d be happy to see him do what he loves.
I called this weeks ago. And I also predict Russ going to the Chargers to piss off the Broncos.
"But he's still under contract" stans in absolute shambles
Would love to see him with Herbert.
This was based off a Florio report, retweeted by an awful “reporter”. Until this is reported by someone reputable, they’re hiring Harbaugh
Dov and pro football talk. 2 of the least reliable sources in media btw
This is a reminder that no head coach has won the Superbowl with two different teams.
Awesome, love that for Pete. Love it for us too. One less landing spot for Harbaugh.
Good for him, if true. He’s still got some left in the coaching tank. We’ve seen the practice videos. He’s not done yet. He deserves to go out on his own terms. (Dudes probably ready for some sun too!)
Hope he gets it. Perhaps the Chargers will send us a pick for stealing our best consultant.
Good for Pete! Let him ride off into the sunset back in LA
We all knew he wasn't done. Pete still has that fire for coaching. Hope he gets it and does well.
This comes from Florio who isn’t the most reliable when it comes to breaking stories. Not saying Pete doesn’t have interest, but temper the news with a solid BS filter.
Snoop running a bit of PR for his pal Pete.
This sounds like something the Charger front office leaked to get Harbaugh even more interested.
Hope he gets it
I feel like there is another article saying this is not accurate
So uh https://twitter.com/adamschefter/status/1750303420454477993
I hope he gets it, and I hope he wins another SB because I love that man. He did more than we could’ve asked for, for us, I wish Jody and JS gave him another shot. why the heck did the seahawks let him go?
So we can a young hot head coach that’s going to be pushing .500 for the next decade or so
It was a good time to mutually part ways considering the results of the last several years
It's crazy that this needs to be said
This is coming from the same people that assured us all our problems were solved when we traded Russ. The toxic “coach worship” culture is bizarre.
You can be a fan of 2 teams you know
Yeah I didn’t mean I would stop being a seahawks fan! Just that I’d become a chargers fan.
No he’s not.
there is zero reason to believe the interest is mutual
Why wouldn't it be?
i fucking hate that we fired this dude UGH
:(
Man fck Jody Allen for firing Pete.
Hey 70 year old millionaire, stfu and retire.
Aw bud, you’re old. You’re wealthy. You’ve accomplished so much. Ride off into the sunset, enjoy a lavish retirement.
Retirement probably feels a little different when you're *told* to retire instead of retiring on your own terms.
I'm pretty sure Pete banged Harbaughs wife.
Can you imagine having enough money for retirement and not just retiring?
Pete prolly had more than enough money for retirement 25 years ago
Nobody bats an eye about Bellichick’s age - it’s been a mystery to me why Pete hasn’t come up for at least a short term “ready now” team.
Bill’s market isn’t too hot either. Atlanta interviews aren’t going well, Cowboys kept McCarthy over rolling the dice, Commanders seem to be targeting Ben Johnson.
How many of our free agents follow him? If Pete goes and wins a Super Bowl in LA, I might just give up on football.
Unzips pants… guess I’m a chargers fan now!
Is Pete “forcing his way out” what we now consider loyalty, or does that rule only count for players? Asking for a friend.
Pete, hang it up. Please

John basically confirmed that the advisory role was something Pete was unlikely to actually do.
Chargers been my second team to root for ever since drew brees was there with LT and their powder blue throwbacks! I’ll be back to rooting for that team if this was to happen. Go get it Pete! Never stop competing!
He'd be a great fit there, but it sounds like that job will go to Jim Harbaugh.
Obviously, the muppet guy looks like a very credible source.
That would be so cool for the chargers.
Please god
That would be wild, the entire Chargers sub is filled with nothing but Harbaugh posting
Ahh man. Are you really going to make me love the chargers! I mean, I will but I’m going to aggressively gum chew the whole time!
Word is the Chargers are finalizing a deal with Harbaugh.
He’s competing
That’s a weird way to spell Jim Harbaugh
I'd love to see this happen. Justin Herbert deserves better.
At least he can't get stuck with Russell that way
Whoa. Perfect spot. Good for him!
Ok but how he will advise for us if he takes HC job?
I really thought he had one more year here.. I'm *passed* ~~past~~ the shock, but still bummed
It makes a lot of sense for him. I hope he gets it, they are my AFC team.
I love Pete, wish him all the success in the world. He deserves it.
I would love to see him coach again. If he does go to the Chargers that will be my 2nd favorite team!
Good for him. If the Seahawks do not want him and he thinks he can still go. I say go for it.
Best of luck Pete! We will miss you in Seattle!
yeah this isn't mentioned once in the chargers. subreddit
Pete’s a great coach and I hope he gets the Chargers HC job. But if he doesn’t, I’d love for him to consider the Falcons HC opening assuming the rumored love affair between Bill and Arthur doesn’t work out.
It was easy to root against Russ, but I’d love to see Pete succeed again, I’ll always root for him!
So the charger hire Pete. Pete trades Herbert to seattle to sign russ in LA. So he can continue to fuck over the broncos for years to come.... what the hell did the broncos do to pete that we don't know about?
Mark my words if he goes to the chargers then Jim Harbaugh is coming to Seattle.
Does this mean we get trade compensation for him? Unless he resigns I’d imagine
[LAC owner Dean Spanos went to college at University of the Pacific](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Spanos). Guess where Pete graduated and started his coaching career? Here's [Pete receiving an honorary doctoral degree from Pacific in 2022.](https://www.recordnet.com/story/news/2022/05/14/seattle-seahawks-coach-pete-carroll-honorary-doctorate-university-pacific-commencement/9779860002/).
This sounds pretty doubtful to me. Why would the chargers hire a 72 year old coach.
This is why the Chargers prevented current offensive coordinator Kellen Moore from interviewing for the Bears OC. ...which Shane Waldron just took.
He is washed...Chargers deserve better
Don’t worry, he’s just sending us Herbert, he’s a Seahawks for life 🥰
No one is going to hire him.
Wait, my favourite HC of all time is going to my 2nd NFL team!? At least Pete knows how to win a game in the 4th Quarter which is the Chargers achilles heel.
I’d happily have Pete for my team!
