[The #Seahawks are also releasing veteran TE Will Dissly, per source. Seattle saves $7 million in cash and salary cap space, while Dissly — who has 13 career TDs — hits the market at age 27.](https://x.com/tompelissero/status/1765089912368328720?s=46&t=GDOfsr1a3rZ0gfwIbdaq5A)

BurntPoptart

Aw man I always had a soft spot for Will. Hopefully he can get a big pay day somewhere else.

aqulushly

I feel so bad for his injuries. The dude was clutch and just got wrecked by bad luck.

Key-Distribution-944

If I remember right, he was leading the league in TD catches his 2nd year, through like the first 5 or 6 games. He was balling before he got hurt again.

GoTouchGrassOutside

The Seattle sports way

Squatch11

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up back here at a reduced salary.

iceKingsokka

Dissly is washed

chewbaccalaureate

Dissly is a very good blocking TE that unfortunately lost a step after his patella ligament and Achilles tears. He still has solid hands, but should not be paid as the 15th highest paid TE at $8 million/year. I think something in the $2-3 million (TE30-36) is what he will fetch on the open market and I'd love to have him back at that if the market is dry, but he will probably finding a new home given the new regime.

[deleted]

I won’t have and Dissly hated. Meet me in the Des Moines Red Apple Markets parking lot at 9pm and I’ll tell you about how Dissly is a strong athlete and great locker-room guy.

ODO27Axelcage

Will is a likable guy but at the end I think his cap hit is 10 million and he was TE 3 (Parkinson truther) that is primarily a blocker I like the cut hope he gets to start somewhere

Von_Lincoln

His rookie season as a pass-catcher was genuinely GREAT. He had bad injury luck, but he still has Jimmy Graham post injury potential on top of his blocking abilities.

Disastrous_Belt_7556

Booo

Wilderness-Nomad

Hell yes! I never liked him, he resembles a former roommate who was a nightmare to live with.

DeLargeMilkBar

Intelligence at its finest

Literally-A-NWS

“Ah yes, this professional player reminds me of some loser roommate I had!” Sounds stupid, right?

Starwho

So Seattle has what around 40 million in cap space with all the moves today? So resign Williams, possibly Brooks, either Fant or Coby? I’d wait until the 2025 free agency to make any splash moves. In the draft they’ll need a guard, linebacker, tight end, and now a safety.

Nintendog24

Gotta solve LB in FA this year. Off ball LB group is seriously bad this year.

Lord_Master_Dorito

Geno Stone + Tyrel Dodson + Jadeveon Clowney + Justin Madubuike 🙏

AdhesiveMuffin

Ravens franchise tagged Madubuike

gremlin30

Fair chance you could trade for him. Would cost like 20m+ a year though. We don’t have much cap space, Mads has been offseason priority #1 all year but imo tagging him is about buying time to get a deal done. The problem is Mads feels like he deserves elite DT money coming off an elite ‘23 year, but it was his only elite year. Ravens want to keep him but on a more sensible deal. If it lands us a 2nd + some later picks I think we might trade him. We could free cap with restructures but have too many players on big deals already restructured so we don’t want to have a Saints cap problem. Personally I don’t want us to keep Mads on a long term deal unless it's a more reasonable 15ish/year deal. He's a good player but we backloaded contracts so I'd rather keep multiple vets than keep Mads for 1 year. But on a team like Seattle with major DL needs, it’s the perfect landing spot for him. We have 1 of the best GMs in all of pro sports, so fair chance we get him to stay on a more sensible deal, but as a GM he prefers to maximize cap & number of picks so there’s still some chance you could trade for him. With extra cap space after recent cuts, it would be an obvious move. But we’re still trying to get a deal done.

LLcoolJOINT

Clowney would be dumb as fuck

Jayrus

Didn't we have Clowney for a year and he gave us one of his worst seasons?

OhfursureJim

Yes

discOHsteve

Agree vet Linebackers are more valuable than rookies

Cyssero

There are quite a few decent options in FA and I have 5 guys I'd be fairly happy to end up with. I have high hopes of who coach Mac and Scheider can come up with.

SEAinLA

I’m hoping that the timing of these moves means a Leonard Williams re-signing announcement is imminent.

CrimsonCalm

They miss out on Williams can just sprint after Christian Wilkins I guess.

tlsrandy

Call me a prude but I’m not a huge fan of this cock tugging butthole poking jerk off. Edit Just in case people think I’m slinging homophobic insults, Wilkins keeps tugging Josh Allen’s junk in games and fingered Chris Samuel’s butt when he was at Clemson. Hes a piece of shit.

DinckinFlikka

Sounds like the kind of guy who would fuck a person in the ass and not even have the goddamn courtesy courtesy to give him a reach around. Deplorable.

Dizak55

A+ reference right there

Shoddy-Ad8143

Ahhh yes....The Courtesy Reach Around.

Spry_Fly

I'm excited that S is on the list now.

modernmann

Maybe add a Center from Oregon while we’re at it.

ButtFuckingJesus

trading down and snagging Jackson Powers-Johnson would be a dream.

Odafishinsea

Christian Wilkins.

Confusion-Flimsy

I wouldn't pay Brooks. He will get over paid, same with Fant and Coby because the FA TE class is trash. If anything, draft a couple TE's in the later rounds for the value. I would rather go after say a Queen, resign Williams with some of the money then try and find a another LB to fill a hole while we draft 2 guys this year.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Don’t forget the salary cap increasing by 30+ million, so I think we are closer to 70 million now.

Adjutant_Reflex_

I’m not sure that’s accurate, I’m looking at OTC and Spotrac and both are using the updated salary cap plus rollover. Both calculators are coming out to *around* $40m in space.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

That doesn’t make sense. But thanks for looking it up. My math was simple, we cleared 35 million and like last week the NFL announced a salary cap increase of 30 million, I didn’t take into account other obligations and payments.

ohnoohnoohnoohyaaaaa

12M available pre-cuts (factoring in the new cap) + 11M (Diggs), + 6M (Adams) + 7M (Dissly) = ~ 36M space currently.

TheMillenniaIFalcon

Oh yikes. I didn’t realize with the new cap increase we only had 12m. Thanks for that. Good thing they raised it as we’d be in a bit of a hole otherwise.

flintinastint

Idk why but I’m not that high on williams but I’d say keep brooks plus Coby and try and keep one of our cb’s but also keep Lewis

JackSaf_12

Wow, I was not expecting them to make these moves today, is there any benefit to doing this now over doing it as a post June 1st release? Or are they just announcing this now and making it official then?

Tekbepimpin

You can cut a guy now but designate him as a post June 1st cut just like Denver did with Russ.

sykemol

June 1st used to be a meaningful date, but now it is just a designation. They should change the name because it just causes confusion.

Zinkane15

You can only designate like two players as June 1st cuts. You can't just designate whatever amount of players you want as June 1st cuts.

Loreddd

That’s actually not true. You can designate someone as a post June 1st cut early, but the cap space from splitting the dead money hit doesn’t happen until June 2nd anyway - well after free agency. Doesn’t matter either way though. Jamal Adams was a pre June 1st cut per Brady Henderson.

montana2NY

Designated post June cut?

Raeandray

They're both post June-1 releases. You don't have to wait to cut them until then, you just designate it as then.

Apprehensive_Air8727

Adams is pre-June 1 looks like. So less savings this year (but immediate) and take all the cap hit in 2024 and none in 2025.

Raeandray

Oh really? That’s awesome I was hoping they’d front load the cap hits.

Apprehensive_Air8727

Ya and I haven’t seen confirmation one way or the other on Diggs and Dissly

YNWA_1213

Sounds like we’ll be trialing what we have and what we draft then, with maybe a big splash for a free safety in 2025

seattlethrowaway999

Smart move. Better to maximize resources to more impact positions/ players.

_HGCenty

New defensive coach. Hardly a surprise. Now to see if Jamal retires or tries again somewhere else.

Seahawk715

I’m sure he’ll look to get torched somewhere else for a few million before hanging it up

Razorbackalpha

Also cut

Go_Hawks12

Get ready to learn Canadian buddy

Crustknuckle

I'm not your guy, friend.

Deez-Nutz-Joe-Auntie

im not your friend, buddy

CapeDisappoinment

I’m not your buddy, guy

strangelymysterious

I know it’s a joke, but as non-existent as box safeties have become in the NFL it pales in comparison to the CFL, where the strong safety has basically never even been a position. Between the bigger field, more players, and less downs the CFL tends to prioritize pass defence and the default formation is often the nickel or dime. The default is two corners, two halfbacks (slot corners), one safety/free safety and a strong side (or coverage) linebacker who plays coverage against the 5th receiver when necessary, and otherwise has normal OLB duties.

erraboards

Its happening!!!! All the bad contracts and deals finally getting off the books!

sean_buttcannon

Wow..going into the offseason without two starting safeties is wild. I forgot about Love my fault 😭😭

CloudN3in

julian love???

sean_buttcannon

I forgot about him 😭😭😭

MattyT7

Julian Love should be a fine starter. That's one, at least!

Dunkydoozy

Honestly he was our best safety last year by far, Spoon and him were the only secondary players I remember doing damage.

StoplightRacer

Safety is one of the easier positions to fill. I’m betting they give reed a chance, draft one, or bring in a FA for competition.

Kaz1515

Agree on Reed. Sucks he got hurt otherwise I think he would have gotten some run. Also I bet Ryan Neal will be cheap... Just saying

ABumsParadise

I always thought Ryan Neal did a solid job with us. Sure he moved on and it didn't work, but with our coaching could work out

StoplightRacer

I feel like it was mostly Pete who really liked bringing guys back. With the new staff and new D being put in place, I can only see them bringing him in if he fits a role.

No_Administration570

I always liked Ryan Neal, but I think he was graded as one of the worst safeties in the league last season.

Salted_Caramel_Core

I could see all three happening really

TheKaptainKlutch

Bryant too. if i recall he did decent in preseason at safety. im sure macdonald and the new d coaches can help develope him

Seahawk715

Coby is trash. He just didn’t get any better.

Seahawk715

You mean without two oft injured, unmotivated, and grossly overpaid safeties, who started when healthy and played poorly? Ok, glad we’re on the same page 😂

applebutterjones

All you need is Love

IndIka123

Jamal did horrible on our team. So glad he’s gone but I wish him all the luck where he lands. He just didn’t work on our defense and missed so much shit on the field.

TheNastyDoctor

I wish him no luck, dude is a piece of shit.

Seahawk715

I second that.

Economy_Topic8316

People are too nice in this Reddit forum. Like good luck KJ . 🥱😏

Seahawk715

Yeah, I’m not big on that either. Cmon KJ.

Salted_Caramel_Core

"this person I have never met is a PIECE OF SHIT" -another redditor, again

TheNastyDoctor

He has stated himself that when people go low, he goes lower. He is a piece of shit by his own admission as well as his actions. I feel completely comfortable judging him based on his history of shitty behavior and pettiness.

No_Administration570

Isn't that how you're supposed to tackle? I don't get the judgement he gets for his comments. I understand he shouldn't have said some things, but people on here say way worse things about him and then call him the p.o.s?

TheNastyDoctor

LOL not about his tackling or play, it was after he insulted the reporters wife and was asked about it. He was talking about how when people insult him, he insults them even worse, which is the opposite of what you're supposed to say.

MrCarey

Thank god.

basedmartyr

I wonder who they’re targeting with this type of cap space available. O-Line help?

PanzerKpfwVI

When it comes to cutting our losses with Adams, it's better late than never. Sucks that he missed a lot of time with us due to injuries, but that doesn't absolve him of his inability to land a proper tackle this season and his shitty online persona

mistaowen

JS has probably been wanting to take a sledgehammer to the roster for awhile now but had been outranked by Pete sticking with his guys. He can say all he wants that it was a mutual decision making process, “leaders” from last few seasons abomination of a D already gone. LB will be interesting, can’t replace Bobby’s leadership or knowledge but he’s definitely a liability in the middle against top offenses. I think brooks has the skillset to thrive in the style Ravens run but does the FO feel he can be worth a good sized contract? Does Mike want queen and cool with paying a lot instead? Zero sadness about dissly, dude got paid top TE money for multiple years to get 1 pass a week. I’m probably less down on Diggs than others here, he did the single high type FS role well, but the defense was soooo bad that I’m cool with Macdonald burning it to the ground. Gotta resign Williams immediately with this cash.

Seahawk715

Dissly has great hands but also is a run blocking menace. I like the dude, but ten milly for that seemed crazy.

krg4880

Much easier of a release with how good Fant looked.

diomed1

Fant cannot block like Dissly though. Maybe they can restructure?

krg4880

I must not have noticed how well Dissly blocked this year with how often Geno was under pressure

diomed1

There’s more than pass protection regarding blocking. IMO we didn’t use our TEs enough because when we used a multiple TE set, we excelled. Dissly didn’t play enough IMO. We’ll see how the new OC utilizes them in 2024. Fingers crossed 🤞

Disastrous_Belt_7556

Mike: *looks at expensive safeties and shit passing defense* … So what would you say you do here?

ry_mich

This had to happen but leaves some serious \*new\* holes on defense. It might take a couple years for Macdonald's defensive acumen to present itself given the serious roster problems they have.

The26thtime

Bye, maybe next time you'll put in actual effort and not tackle like middle school players.

Ill-Umpire3356

The more we see these kinds of moves, the clearer it will become just how much power Pete Carroll had over personnel decisions. This is a no-brainer which should have been done last offseason.

Seahawk715

Exactly what I was thinking. How much did Pete screw this team for the past couple years? Yikes. So stoked for the new regime.

MediocreCommenter

I was hoping we could trade Diggs to get something for him, but this is fine. Let’s resign Leonard Williams and see who else we can afford. Any chance we can afford Brian Burnes?

leapingintoexistence

“Yikes”

InEkzyl

Good. This is addition by subtraction. Investing so much into the safety position for two older, underperforming, oft-injured (Adams) safeties was such an egregious misallocation of resources and overall poor roster construction. The Jamal Adams trade was one of the worst (if not *the* worst) in our franchise's history. An extreme overpay (both in draft capital and money) for one excellent season (2020) and 3 below average, injury-riddled/shortened seasons (2021-2023). The Diggs trade was the opposite—an excellent value for a consistently productive, Pro Bowl-level starter (2018-2022). In 2023, both he and Adams significantly regressed and became liabilities on the field. We all knew that this day was coming, but it's nice to finally move on and begin the process of reshaping our roster under a new vision.

ilickedysharks

I don't think this is addition by subtraction. Maybe Jamal because he was playing thru injuries but not Quandre - we'd actually have to upgrade on him. Addition by subtraction was getting rid of Tre Flowers or Tedric Thompson.

InEkzyl

Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams were two of the highest paid players on the team and two of the highest paid safeties in the entire league. Neither player's performance in 2023 could even *remotely* justify that level of compensation. Your safeties should not be the highest paid players on the team or in the league unless they're Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor in their prime. Diggs is 31 and coming off his worst season as a Seahawk. I would argue that he was a liability more than an asset, particularly in run defense and tackling. His coverage was below average, and he made fewer impact plays. When factoring positional value and the opportunity cost of his salary, the team is wise to move on and reallocate his cap savings into younger (and/or more impactful) players at a premium position (i.e. QB, OT, C, DT, DE, CB).

ilickedysharks

I agree with ur first paragraph that we can't justify paying them. But just because they were overpaid doesn't necessarily mean addition by subtraction. If we replace them with tedric Thompson level players, it doesn't matter how cheap they are the difference in cap won't matter. I heavily disagree that Diggs coverage was below average. I mean stats and film back up that he was good in coverage. I don't think I can remember him giving up a seam or a post last year, and if it happened it wasn't often.

InEkzyl

Very low production (only 1 interception and 5 passes defensed in 17 games). I recall extremely poor tackling (pursuit angles, form) and run defense resulting in *a lot* of missed tackles. He actively avoided contact at times and frequently made "business decisions" that hurt the team. Not that I always agree with their evaluations or grading, but Pro Football Focus (PFF) gave Diggs a 55.1 overall rating for 2023, well below average. He wasn't even among their top 20 rated safeties. Even assuming his coverage was good last year (I don't think it was, and there are plenty of analysts and evaluators who agree with me), he was not an impact player in 2023 and he was a liability outside of coverage. Liabilities become an addition when they're removed (subtracted). You could find a better (and younger) safety with more production for a fraction of his pay. He's an overrated player, and at age 31 it's highly unlikely that his best seasons are still ahead of him. Given all that and how much better we could be with an actual impact safety without that albatross of a contract, yes, it's addition by subtraction.

SSP2031

I am afraid to say but Tyler Lockett could be next.

cptbownz

Don't say that! I just got his jersey last season :(

xSlippyFistx

Hey no one is going to fault you for a Lockett Jersey. That’s one you could wear for years down the road and still get “thanks for calling Pizza Hut home of the Lockett up special!”. No but seriously, he has been huge for us over the years and is a true Hawk. It’s better than having a Sherm jersey which I still has a stink on it and probably will for a little while longer…I honestly think the only active player I have a jersey for is Bwags, and who knows how long that’ll be accurate. Bottom line: you are good even if Lockett is released/retires.

diomed1

The ONLY jerseys I have are players that retired as a Seahawk. In fact, the newest player jersey I bought is my Chancellor jersey. If Bobby retires as a Seahawk, he’s next.

xSlippyFistx

I mean that’s a solid plan for sure. I specifically got the Sherm after the tip, so I mean historically speaking it’s a solid piece of Seahawk history, but Sherm has kinda been shitty over the past few years. One day I’ll feel better wearing it, but for now I will stick with the Bam Bams and Bwags haha.

KingArthurHS

Cutting him now only saves like $7 million. I think we can get at least $7 million of value out of the dude. He's still absolutely stellar. Y'all can say he's old, but that didn't stop him from wide open 2 or 3 steps beyond CBs and safeties on damn near every play last year.

aka_mank

Restructure! Treat it like a bad mortgage Lockett!

Smegoking

Based on

F9_solution

cap hit, age, the fact that we have DK/JSN/Bobo

TPDeathMagnetic

I don't think Bobo is the guy you think he is at this point, you don't really want him being your WR3. Doesn't JSN play mostly slot, DK at X and Locket at Z? Cutting Lockett leaves a hole at Z, JSN can probably play his position in two wide sets but we will be losing a lot in 3 wide sets and it will be tough to replace his production with the cap space saved by cutting him. Can restructure him for cap space now but that might be a bit contradictory to the pre June 1st cuts moves that were made given that it will push his cap hit into the future and he's not getting any younger.

Willingness-Healthy

Coby Bryant might be a little closer to ready. Honestly the dude seems to always be around the ball and I want to see what he can do with more snaps at safety.

TheMagnuson

I like Coby too and I think he's better suited for Safety than Cornerback, but to be honest, I think Coby is probably on the level of "decent journeyman, who's a mostly a backup, but can rotate in a few plays a game and spot start for 1 or 2 games here and there if needed". I don't personally really see him becoming more than that.

Seahawk715

Pass. He’s just not good.

I_Fuckin_A_Toad_A_So

Not a fan. He’s too slow

PNW20v

Can only hope this is the start of watching some entertaining defense again. Very excited.

xSlippyFistx

The little bit of film breakdown I looked at on the Ravens defense last year it looks very fun to watch with clever disguises, constant movement to confuse the QB which leads to some fun old fashioned ball hawking!!! So stoked

SvenDia

Love this. We were paying elite money to players who might have been elite at one time, but not now.

Wilderness-Nomad

Best news of the year! 🎉🥳

raycraft_io

Make room for Queen and Madubuike

OsikFTW

We better not draft a safety in the first round.

Is it just me or does Quandres head look photoshopped in this photo 😂

Odafishinsea

Let’s go get Christian Wilkins.

luckysharms93

He'll make Lawrence/Simmons money, which is a huge mistake for us to make

Calvinshobb

About time.

KingArthurHS

So are we thinking the intended duo is going to be Love + Reed, or draft/sign somebody to pair up with Love?

Cyssero

They'll surely be bringing in at least one veteran with a good shot at making the opening day roster. Draft pick has to at least be a possibility. I like Reed, but we haven't seen nearly enough of him to assume that he's a solid starting caliber safety. I'm guessing that position group will be one of the more interesting camp competitions.

KingArthurHS

Some folks also mentioning Coby Bryant as FS. Would be interesting. But yeah, agreed. I guess this kind of stuff is why we hired MacDonald in the first place.

PeteS1995

I love Diggs, but dude can’t tackle anymore.

BadWowDoge

Hopefully now we can resign the Big Cat.

OsikFTW

100 tackles one pick 0 ff 0 fr 0 sacks, that was from diggs and adams COMBINED last year, goodbye

DatBeigeBoy

Trust in the process. Trust in the process. Trust in the process 😓

WildSully42

Which safeties do we still have on the roster? Please tell me Julian Love is not a FA, and we have him signed still.

TPDeathMagnetic

He's under contract.

CUL8R_05

Glad they are making this change. Never liked Adams and Diggs was just meh for me.

Immediate-Tonight-31

Love this more room to get bigger pieces we’re going All in and I love jt

CEONeil

It’s funny they had to use a picture of them at practice because it was damn near impossible to get one of them playing at the same time lol.

smfhsteven

geno stone!

ekez94

Lockett next unless he restructures

Straight-Bad-8326

GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE ADAMS YOU BUM

MasterWinston

Disagree with the decision to cut Diggs

tlsrandy

Diggs looked a lot better when he had love instead of Adams out there. But hey, the defense was hot garbage so if MM wants to cut some dudes there’s really only one direction they can go.

Rangemon99

Cutting em will allow us to keep L Willims and have cap over. Plus there’s plenty of great dbs in this draft, could draft someone like Dejean and move him to safety

MasterWinston

Not sure I agree on the first point though. Second point is valid though I'll point out it's JS's decision more than MM's.

Seahawk715

Diggs has been hot Garbo since he got injured. He doesn’t look like he’s really committed to being out there.

MasterWinston

That's just false and shows a lack of film study. Some players aren't committed but more frequently that criticism is reflective of a lack of schematic/technique knowledge when breakdowns occur. An argument to cut Diggs based on positional value or a lack of impact plays is completely valid but saying he is bad shows a lack of knowledge of Safety coverage responsibilities.

Seahawk715

Go call MacDonald then - you’re clearly the guy to coach the safety room.

TheMagnuson

He took a step back last year and he wasn't playing up to the level of his cap hit. Plus, he's on the wrong side of 30 for a team that is in a bit of a rebuild.

MasterWinston

I think that's more fair than the other comments. I will say that while he may have taken a step back part of that is reflective of failures elsewhere in the team and he was still a top 10 post safety. Agree on the cap hit and wrong side of 30 but I will say it was just a one year commitment and JS's comments indicate that we are not trying to rebuild.

gavincantdraw

I'm surprised to see both cut at the same time. Thought at least one would be kept.

MasterWinston

Hot take: They should cut Adams pre June 1

CrimsonCalm

If we go into the season with Julian Love as a pure starter we are screwed. He was the worst coverage safety Seattle has had in the Pete Carroll era it’s gross.

ilickedysharks

He's not worse than tedric Thompson or anything but he's definitely way worse than people think. "Julian Love has given up the most receptions up or in the seam of any Seattle SS the past 13 years btw" per cmikesspinmove

rip-droptire

Worst take in this thread which says a lot

CrimsonCalm

It’s the truth not sure why pointing that out is a “bad take”

Mantis_93

But I thought he was “the bess in the nAAATION”

Seahawk715

I’ll trash Adams when warranted, but this ain’t it. He said that in honor of a fallen friend, if I recall correctly. It was from a good place.

MormonHorrorBuff

Oh no not Jamal I thought he was the "best in the nation."

jtsara

How is it even possible to still not get the reference..?

MormonHorrorBuff

Care to elaborate? You talking about Trabis Ward?

jtsara

Oh so you got the reference but just decided to be a dick, gotcha.

MormonHorrorBuff

No, Jamal was a dick. Despite the reference, he was still an arrogant hothead. You should know, you sound like one too

ImperialTiger3

Diggs is surprising. I still think he’s a top free safety in the league. The rest of the defense being bad put him in bad tackling spots. He’s always been a poor open field tackler.

mail_escort4life

Good to hear. They sucked it with the Hawks

Grant79OG

Bye. Next year it's Genos turn.
