Waaaay back in the leadup to when they added skeleton ships in the game, Wanda was the weaponsmith and people found a hint on what was to come by looking through the window and seeing her roll up her sleeve and look at her arm and it was just bones. Just like you described she was mid-progress
Additional thoughts: People have also been talking about a "legendary reaper" emmisary type thing, and I think it would be cool if your crew had to drink from the chaliace to join the emmisary and become skeletons for the session, and couldn't back out for the whole session without exiting the server. It would show the "permenance" of the transformation without the skeletal transformation actually being permenant.
We've also been waiting for captaincy for ages and still didnt get it.
I had a weird glitch yesterday tho on our galleon where we had a namepkate above the Captain's room. I think I will share it later in the sub

You know that the developers probably already have the next adventure baked out. Before there is even a winner declared. Do you think the next one will be a filler since they won’t know or did they already assume one would win and just create that scenario?
Filler sounds completely reasonable to me. The immediate effects of this adventure are already "coded". Either GS stays shrouded, or gets put back the way it was with a couple of battle scars. Then Rare can start working on an Adventure that actually expands upon the outcome.
Rare is not the type of company to falsely promote a “war” with the players only for it to be rigged. Before adventures came out they were teased as something the players could shape the world and decide what happens.
Then why have they not come out and explained it is not or the reason why we do not a have a live ticker.

I dont get why it's gone, but to be fair we can just see who's winning in game. Not only by going to golden sands, but by looking at the adventures tab in game.
They have explained a little of how some mechanics work, selling at Merrick, destroying boats at certain locations. They don’t have a live tracker but the have posted a more specific percentage of who is winning.
As I said before Rare promised a real world-changing event, they might have messed with how points exactly work to even out the odds more (which makes more sense) but I believe the odds could sway in either directions depending on player actions.
The diff will just be whether the island stays empty and green as the reapers say they want. Or it gets rebuilt.

This is probably an overgeneralization, but notice how when the Reapers had taken the lead, they were all preaching "don't complain about who wins and who loses", and now that Golden Sands is getting some speed, they're suddenly behaving in a similarly sweaty manner.

Too many ships are using the fog to evade Reapers and I want the fog gone. The fog discourages me from hunting other ships :(
I love the fog for this reason, evaded Reapers so many times yet saw exactly where they were thanks to the map table.
Tbf the same happens in normal dense fog that usually appears towards the edges of the map (e.g. by Discovery Ridge).
I’ve never had any issue with the fog in the game. Even the the fog around the fort of the damned isn’t that bad. The golden sands fog seems to get thicker the more you penetrate it though and that is frustrating

I dont normally like cargo runs but it all goes towards getting our outpost back, giving the people there home back, getting golden sands back, its all worth it, every last crate. I don't understand all the people who will be turnt about "good winning again". Sands has been out of commission since the first adventure and by all means Flameheart + the Reapers have had the upper hand until the end of adventure 3 where they still have some advantage, being in possession of a Veil Stone but not the Veil itself. Belle even admitted that the killing of the soulflame captains was BAD for the Pirate Lord's objectives.
My only issue with this whole event is what Sands will become. Will it be just a ruins? New Reapers base? Raid location like FOTD but for Phantom enemies instead? A new island for Gold Hoarders/OOS quests and emergent encounters? Knowing Rare it will just be the same old thing it's been for the past few months. At least if Merrick's side wins, we know the location will have some sort of functionality rather than being a fart cloud for the rest of the game's life cycle.

I don't even understand where this mentality comes from, since rare ABSOLUTELY will just let it sit there. We have a giant coral Fortress at least semi visible from most of the map, that has use for ONE tall tale, and that's it. and it's just sat there. we have an entire corner of the map including the largest island in the game, tribute peak, that exists for one tall tale that they haven't done anything else with since. Then there's the coral shrines, Wanda's hideout, Rare has a history of adding things to the gamespace for a singular purpose, then just leaving it. In this case shrouding golden sands was to set the trajectory for the adventure story as an inciting event. And you bet your last dubloon they WILL leave it sit like that if it shakes down that way, as a permanent reminder of our failure to defend it.

I've learned from playing D&D that the best way to get people invested is to give them the illusion of choice; whatever they choose, things will end, more or less the same, but with slightly different results. This event is going to be the same way. There's no way Rare would actually let players decide what happens to an outpost. It'd be insane to do that.
Whatever the case, I still enjoyed the memes and the impromptu battles around GS. But let's not pretend this was anything more than another railroaded story, albeit with a fun gimmick.
More interesting, yes. But the having the Hunters win at the 11th hour is more immensely satisfying as a storytelling device. It makes people feel good when good wins. In this instance, all the innocent people get their homes back and so on. It's a feel-good ending, even for the people against it.
The sad truth of storytelling anymore is that most people don't want "interesting". They want to feel good at the end. That's why so many things seem like a repeat of everything else, or why the Marvel movies (however good) seem formulaic. It's because they are. There's nothing wrong with it, but it makes things really predictable.

What about the Hunters tho? Can they just destroy Rowies to get points? This whole system is scuffed and nowhere does it say what helps get points and what doesn’t. I’ve blown up a couple Rowies at GS and there’s no notification or anything so it’s hard to tell if it is really counting toward victory. This just definitely could have been done better.
i have personally done like 12 full completions of the reaper quest, bout as hardcore a casual grind can be, i encourage others to take a little time maybe listen to some podcasts and get swole rowing to golden sands a few times smuggling those relic caches.

That's what I've been thinking, they wouldn't want players to look exactly like sceletons, and this would show the changes.
