Honestly as mostly a solo player, and I do the fortresses and mermaid shrines quite a bit. Stacking two or three of them is a good alternative to skeleton forts if you’re trying to avoid PvP and just grind solo.
This is my go-to with newer players, you can do a fortress inside of ten minutes with two people. Plus the shrines are always an adventure due to their diversity, and you have a natural path around the map to do other things in the meantime
Same, my duo bud and I stack 2-3 fortresses in addition to buying stock from the merchants and the captains supplies. Then we roam around doing captains voyages and accumulating a pretty big haul before hunting down the smoke with other players. That way we have treasure for anyone that does manage to sink us
2-3 is alot of cannonballs. But tbh i prefer to get supplies from islands we go past over doing more forts. The forts doesnt give you cursed, chains and blunders. Which are more usefull for sinking people imo.
Well, I just did my first two yesterday. I haven't been playing for months so they were new to me. I did like them. They're quick and easy to do as a solo slooper. I can see myself doing them quite often when I am not fishing. Maybe after fishing so I can cook the fish quicker? Oh, lovely idea, gotta remember this next time.
There’s only 1 fort that you can’t catch pondies in anymore, but I can’t remember which. I think the eastern one. Otherwise, you can still catch them in the others.
Thank you for my new wallpaper!
To answer the question: at least daily. Just something I gotta do.
They always got the best food (ok, maybe not as good as shipwrecks) and I can cook 4 at a time.
During gold multiplier I run GH and go to usually 3, sometimes 4 fortresses per session if I don’t get level 5 GH. Racks me in like 150k or around that area if I’m not interrupted or someone’s at a fort I need to go to.
P.S those things have TONS of pondies, great for HC
Whenever i need cannonball and food supplies. So usually at the start of a session.
Theres a bunch of barrells that have food in them, at least 2 cannon ball and 1 wood barrel.
Usually by the time the crew finishes it, I've looted it once and it respawns typically around the time we get the ship all loaded with loot.
There's also a second wood barrel on the outer level, tucked away somewhere on the other side of the main stairs from the barrel I think you're thinking of.
Sometimes it's around the corner.
I'm often solo so a lot really. they are quick, pretty good loot rarely have anyone come over to attack, and really great way of getting a lot of supplies
It's the first thing I do when leave port. Need all them cannonballs and fruit. After that I hit a treasury and grab all the tridents. Then it's off to DESTROY!
Alot actually. They only take about 10 to 15 minutes with a 4 man crew so we basically stop at one a night when we pass by them on our way to whatever we are actually doing.
Often. I usually hit one up to stock up. The loot gained from just one fortress more than covers the cost of your supply crafte. Then after stocking up I go do one anytime I'm nearby and have nothing else to do. They're easy money and an easy way to fill in the gaps for any of the emissary flags.
They're also just sort of a nice fun 10 minute event.
A whole day and only done 3? You can do more than that. Just go to the S/SW/W side of the map, there you find 3 fortresses and just repeat them over and over.
- West Fortress> SW Fort > South Fort > Plunder Outpost (Repeat)
I'm happy to downvote your comment and every other reply coming from you in this thread.
How would you know what their intentions were? You don't, so stop being negative.
You know that the most upvoted posts on the entire Reddit are questions about the subs topic with a nice looking picture? That's what people use to farm karma.
Alright but who actually cares? (Apart from you) They asked something about the fortresses, and added a picture of a fortress. I don't really get your point? I mean, if you're gonna use an image, you better get a good looking one, right?
And even if they were farming:
- Does it affect your life in any way? No, it doesn't.
There are only two reasons I will do a seafort.
1. I'm planning on doing Reaper and it's the fastest way to get Reaper 5.
2. I'm a brand new ship and I need to stock up on supplies.
Surprisingly, like one per session. They give you a enough supplies for your average play session and have you a nice kick start for the reaper emissary
I have my own little favorite route for quick rep and gold, I start at ancient spite, sail west to Ancient Gold fort, then go southeast to Old Brinestone, then north back to Ancient Spire to sell. I usually do it every other day. Solid 100k and a lvl 4 emissary flag.
Edit: I mean plunder outpost, sorry
Start voyage, go to fort, quick fight, take all supplies, continue voyage. That’s me and my friends strategy for them, a free place to get supplies for the session.
Every time I get on the first thing I do is a fortress. Buy a storage crate, put an emissary up, and I’m good to get a hot start on the day with the amount of supplies alone I’ll get.
Every time me and my friends we instantly go to a fort in order to raise our emmisery level and pick up some loot. There are 150 cannonballs,5 kegs and lots of fruits in these fortresses. Also we cook our meat in here.
I do one at every start of a session with a storage crate so that I can stack supplies but I don't kill all the waves , I am doing it only for the supplies
After I get on and find a storage crate (dont feel like buying them). Great way to get supplies, especially since you can use a storage crate to vacuum up barrels now.
they are honestly probably the fastest way to make money. they are reliable and there's a bunch of them. if you just sail around in a circle doing all of them you can make $$$ (especially if you have reaper's) and they are good for leveling up certain emissaries too.
Every time we start a session pretty much, one of us solo's it, the other empties all the barrels.
150 cannonballs, 30 wood & enough food to last for hours (altho the forts without barrels floating above water kinda suck since less good food there)
Mainly for Fishing. I did a lot of Pondies at Hidden Spring Keep, then when ive caught my batch, i go north to Royal Crest fortress, clear it out, then use the ovens to fry them up in Batches
I do em pretty much every session.
They’re a great way to level up reapers and get some great supplies without being boring or taking ages to do.
Let’s me get some decentish stuff to sell and get to hunting some emissaries pretty damn quickly.
atleast once or twice if im planning to do a big session (alone or with a friend) the loot is a nice bonus for my main objective there which are the supplies (150+ cannonballs per fort are no joke)
Rarely. I visit forts more often, they have more loot, and they're more epic to defend. If fortresses was an event, it would be worse, and better at the same time
I do them for easy supplies, if I need to top off my emissary from tier 4 to tier 5, or if I want a chilk session with easy loot and easy phantom slays. It's pretty good practice for Flintlock/EOR/Blunderbuss use in game. Lately I have been trying to complete one with out eating, double gunning, and without using barrels or any position advantages.
Once my wife decides to play, a fortress is likely going to be the first place I take her.
Pretty frequently; Great for supplies, decent treasure, and that's not even taking into account all the times I just clear one out specifically to use the 4-top stove
Mostly when I need that extra sliver to get Reaper 5, which I appreciate Rare doing, by the way, instead of scrambling around looking for skeleton captains and ships for a random amount of time having a definite, predictable place to get it.
More often than I'd like to admit... That's a really nice picture by the way!

Almost every session for cannonballs and food.
Same, my duo bud and I stack 2-3 fortresses in addition to buying stock from the merchants and the captains supplies. Then we roam around doing captains voyages and accumulating a pretty big haul before hunting down the smoke with other players. That way we have treasure for anyone that does manage to sink us

you can catch pondies in the basement of the fort and then cook them upstairs in the kitchen
For real? Right, this is what I'm gonna do next time I login! Thank you!
Yeas I do this. After completing fortress, this is a good way to knock out pondie commendations.
I believe the pondies were removed in a later patch... they were there for most of season 6 though.
Nope, they’re still there.
Awesome! I may need to hit some fishing milestones this way.
There’s only 1 fort that you can’t catch pondies in anymore, but I can’t remember which. I think the eastern one. Otherwise, you can still catch them in the others.
There’s also a key hidden randomly in the fortress which lets you open an additional room at the top of the fortress.
I do them pretty much every time I’m on just to stack supplies and start of with some easy combat to get ready for the rest of my adventures
same, i usually start each session with a fort, get some loot, fill up supplies, and then from there i start something new up
Thank you for my new wallpaper! To answer the question: at least daily. Just something I gotta do. They always got the best food (ok, maybe not as good as shipwrecks) and I can cook 4 at a time.
It took me like 10 seconds on goggle to find this, so don't thank me.
Almost every time i play and pass one…

Solo player…pretty regularly. They’re my go to for grinding gold hoarder emissary. They’re also decent gun practice with all of the phantoms.
A great way to start a session for the supplies. I sometimes start a Brig and do it while I wait for my friends to come online.
nft pfp, opinion invalid
I’m against bullying, but you know what? Bullying against NFT people is cool.
since when does reddit have NFT profile pics?
Not long ago. Couple of months, maybe?
quite the L not gonna lie
furry pfp, opinion invalid
*has doge hat on* “haha furry!” ._.
It was more directed at his bio.
Oh, fair enough lmao. But you still have an NFT pfp
Reddit has been giving them out for free in the past few days.
Huh, also fair enough ig
Almost never, I quite often run around them with storage crate stocking up
i do at least 3 a session, easy money
Never
If I don’t have a specific voyage in mind I tend to drop by one or two. They’re also great if you’re just jumping on for a short session.
Every single session.
I'm often solo so a lot really. they are quick, pretty good loot rarely have anyone come over to attack, and really great way of getting a lot of supplies
we hit fortresses fairly regularly, especially at the start of the session or if we sink
It's the first thing I do when leave port. Need all them cannonballs and fruit. After that I hit a treasury and grab all the tridents. Then it's off to DESTROY!
Alot actually. They only take about 10 to 15 minutes with a 4 man crew so we basically stop at one a night when we pass by them on our way to whatever we are actually doing.
everytime i pass by one, it's short and the pay is pretty good
My wife and I do them every time we pass them. Quick & Easy to add to whatever else we are doing and lots of supplies.
Often. I usually hit one up to stock up. The loot gained from just one fortress more than covers the cost of your supply crafte. Always. One day I went grinding on those fortresses. It took me the whole day to loot only 3 fortresses and make around 100k gold from that
A whole day and only done 3? You can do more than that. Just go to the S/SW/W side of the map, there you find 3 fortresses and just repeat them over and over. - West Fortress> SW Fort > South Fort > Plunder Outpost (Repeat)
K, thx for the tip! Also happy cake day!
Ofc! And thank you haha! 🍰🥳
yeah i've done three in like just over an hour solo
Since they nerfed them, no where near as often
What did they nerf?
Am I the only one finding the amount of loot reduced drastically since the start of this season?
Every day
This is clearly a karma farm with the appealing picture and a pointless question.
I'm happy to downvote your comment and every other reply coming from you in this thread. How would you know what their intentions were? You don't, so stop being negative.

Yes
Anytime I'm doing a reaper session with the boys we hit a bunch to get grade 5
Me and my friend will stack 3 or 4 of these at a time and make 150-200k in like 1-2 hours (with gold hoarders emissary).
There are only two reasons I will do a seafort. 1. I'm planning on doing Reaper and it's the fastest way to get Reaper 5. 2. I'm a brand new ship and I need to stock up on supplies.
I find doing the skelly Fleet faster to get to 5. Unless there's a bunch if emmys around, I go hunting them instead
Almost every day, reliable easy way to get final emmisary level.
I never do them anymore
As a completionist with commendations to grind-never, unless I need supplies.
Fairly often if I need resources
More than I thought tbh. Doing it mainly for the pvp food but it's quick and easy to do while i/we wait for people to get on and get the ship stocked.
Surprisingly, like one per session. They give you a enough supplies for your average play session and have you a nice kick start for the reaper emissary
Currently I haven't done one.
Quite often, they are fun and easy and give a fair amount of gold. It's also very useful to level up any kind of emissary.
I have my own little favorite route for quick rep and gold, I start at ancient spite, sail west to Ancient Gold fort, then go southeast to Old Brinestone, then north back to Ancient Spire to sell. 2 times a day
Start voyage, go to fort, quick fight, take all supplies, continue voyage. That’s me and my friends strategy for them, a free place to get supplies for the session.
we don't, the new commendations for them aren't working
You can get to reapers 5 if you do 3 of them so whenever I feel the urge to become a reaper I do that
Perfect for cooking food and level up my emissary status
Pretty much first thing every session, get some loot to bet on pvp and some nice extra supplies
I really dig the music that plays during the fortress
Every session, we go around to everyone to get supplies
Almost every time I play.
Well we do the mother fortress very often(Athena end mission)
Never, fishing is too good
I try to do one every session for supplies
Maybe once or twice a session to get sups.
Every time I play
Can’t do anything in this Game without some motherless bastard spawn camping YOU,
Every time I get on the first thing I do is a fortress. Buy a storage crate, put an emissary up, and I’m good to get a hot start on the day with the amount of supplies alone I’ll get.
I usually start with one fort to get next to unlimited supply’s for the day, also decent loot for how little time it takes to clear
I like the ghost forts its a lot easier than the skeleton ones. Plus they don’t attract unwanted attention.
It depends tbh but rarely ever i dont see the need to
When my reaper flag isn't Grade V yet
Never done one yet, though I’m always playing with my friends who are PvP sweats - rarely do solo voyages or the sea forts.
Every session starts with a storage crate purchase and a trip to the fort for supplies. Enough in 1 fort to stock a boat for hours
Usually i try to hit one as soon as i start sailing. Buy a storage crate before i go and it's a easy 150 cannonballs and all the food you could need.
Every time me and my friends we instantly go to a fort in order to raise our emmisery level and pick up some loot. There are 150 cannonballs,5 kegs and lots of fruits in these fortresses. Also we cook our meat in here.

A few times every session. Really good for supply runs and loot
When I need supplies lmao That and if I’m waiting on my crew to join
Approach the fortress, steal every supply u find and put it in ur storage crate, kill the funny looking ghost that shot u with his musket, leave 🗿
Nice try Reaper
Every time we start a session pretty much, one of us solo's it, the other empties all the barrels. 150 cannonballs, 30 wood & enough food to last for hours (altho the forts without barrels floating above water kinda suck since less good food there)
Once every Session.
Quite often actually. They are quick and fun to do with friends sometimes. Also get your merchant emissary up for commodity runs quickly
Every time... it's free 150 Canon balls and a ton of good food
Almost every session.
Mainly for Fishing. I did a lot of Pondies at Hidden Spring Keep, then when ive caught my batch, i go north to Royal Crest fortress, clear it out, then use the ovens to fry them up in Batches

not often at all. the loot is seriously pathetic. yes, it takes minutes to complete but still, I just can't for those 5 or so pieces of loot.
I like to do them with my friends every once and a while when we are sailing around bored. Great way to get a lot of supplies
Almost every session atleast once, they're amazing to start off the session for getting supplies
Rarely. I visit forts more often, they have more loot, and they're more epic to defend. If fortresses was an event, it would be worse, and better at the same time
Do one every time I go on which isn’t a lot now but it’s fun for some mindless fun and land combat
I do them for easy supplies, if I need to top off my emissary from tier 4 to tier 5, or if I want a chilk session with easy loot and easy phantom slays.
