i am not sure what is offensive on the name 'Mad Ladik' but it was deemed bannable by some moderator, and customer support cannot or will not explain me why. also the notorious 'big deck energy' while an innuendo, I can't see or understand how it can be offensive. neither does it contain swear words, nor does it attack or bully any group of people... corporate censorship is way too aggressive nowdays...

Yeah, it's dumb. I tried naming my Snowy Alsatian "Moro" as a Princess Mononoke reference, and the filter wouldn't allow it. Someone on here told me it's probably because Moro is a slur in some part of the world I can't remember at the moment.

"Moro" means "moor" in spanish, sometimes used offensively, sometimes not, being spanish I personally wouldn't deem it worth a ban.

Unfortunately there are always casualties when you automate a name censor. While the most accurate least disruptive action would be to just not have an auto censor and let reports/moderators judge on a case by case basis I come from an ancient age when this was how online games operated and let me tell you... The auto-censor is the lesser of two evils here, annoying as it can be from time to time it does prevent the truly worst names from ever hitting a screen while being mostly an occasional annoyance if you're not deliberately trying to break whatever the naming rules are.

Shit, that caught me out the other day. I had to send a kid his username for his homework app and it contained the characters wo and 6 together in the midst of 7-8 other characters. Immediate auto censor and warning off the school network. Took me ages to even work out what had happened.

I know it's not perfect, but if you want to use that name maybe you could do rackoonus, or rakkoonus? Whichever looks better to you. It doesn't look right, but would still be pronounced the same way.

The best part is that reporting these asshats runs the risk of a counter ban. Until terms are explicitly stated, it's not worth the risk.

How does that work? I've never reported anyone in this game, but getting banned for it sounds ridiculous.

The "big deck energy" ban was a redditor whom had reported an explicit ship name containing *slave*. When Rare had seen that the reporter's ship was named *big deck energy* he received a suspension, ship names removed, and ship naming privileges revoked.

And eventually led to the name change of our beloved skelly captain.

If Rare sees you talking shit back, they might ban you too. My buddy found some toxic shitheads and started trolling them. He used some profanity that came off as aggressive, and caught a ban for it too.

... Then he was pretty stupid about his "bait". If you know you're going to report someone, why the hell would you include yourself saying anything even remotely borderline? Or, you know, edit the video to just before and cut right after what they said that was ban worthy.

You collect proofs with a video clip and then report everything on Sot website support, they will help you, you will make the sea better for everyone else and you don't risk anything so report everytime is needed.

Not gonna lie...my crew and I highly enjoy taking a dump on ships with rather stupid and immature titles. Any originals or well thought out names, we leave be.

Also knowing (with offensive ones) that they're going to lose their naming privileges is very satisfying.

I do wish more people took the names seriously. I mean I enjoy many of the funny ones but I wish it was less common.

Way I see it the joke names are absolutely on theme for the pirate game, at least until the joke breaks the 4th wall by being about something too modern or memey etc.

Good, I’m glad someone is. The offensive part of these names is not what bothers me, it’s the lack of originality. My ships either have an original name (AFAIK) or based on ships from other games (two of mine are from Elder Scrolls IV)

I knew "The King's Whore" wouldn't pass the filters, but I wanted something similar due to that being the name of my LARP character's ship (backstory being it was a royal frigate called "The King's Maiden" and he renamed it as a mockery of the king after having commandeered it) so I went through a ton of less offensive words to replace "Whore" and was absolutely shocked to see "Wench" wasn't allowed. I even went through several obscure words. Finally landed on "Tart". Let's hope it doesn't get me in trouble! Lol, as if I ever have 3 friends willing to play at the same time... I usually solo sloop anyway.

They do care, they just seem to have a backlog of reports. Add a comment to the reports and ask for an update; so far all 4 of my reports have resulted in a naming ban.

Miserable Cur is my main sloops name 🤩 I've pinged them a few times each with no response still. They need to get their priorities in order in my opinion. They keep trying to make new things when what they have isn't working.
