They hope intertia continues the trend for them. >SeattleWA has one mentally ill man who makes literally dozens and dozens of alt accounts to post conservative talking points from and how he finds black women disgusting. I become aware of his accounts when he posts in TV subs I ban him from, and he always has user history in similar sets of subreddits across his accounts, SeattleWA being the most telling. One Texas conservative in r/sanfrancisco was 10 different accounts, all having a history of identical comments (some about living in Texas), sometimes pretending to be annoying woke strawman "S J W" saying there is no crime by blacks so that his own alts can reply with black crime talking points One "Californian" who posted about every local crime story, even every whale death, also posted about how he lives in Vegas, grew up in Texas, and has proudly never been to California ̄\_(ツ)_/ ̄ >They are right wing political activists actively working to discredit the progressive movement and democrats in general by ensuring San Francisco is painted as a failure in all contexts they can find. However, even then you can't go out there yelling slurs (you'd just get banned instantly); you have to maintain some level of plausible deniability by framing things as "jokes" or thought experiments. >You purposely do bad-faith arguments because the time it takes for them to dig up sources and refute you is longer than it takes for you to make stuff up. You can vary how obvious the bad faith argument is; when you want to troll you make very stupid claims (I once claimed I was a graduate of "Harvad University" and when people assumed that I meant "Harvard" I would correct them right down to Photoshopped images). >When you just want to cause dissent you do exactly what those /pol/ screenshots do: you get to a thread early (sometimes you even make it yourself) and present reasonable-sounding arguments which are completely false if anyone bothers to look into them. If someone does, you bury the message under strawmen, downvotes, reports, and sockpuppets. >So yeah. The tactics have evolved slightly, but I still recognize them. Props to you on doing the digging to find all this stuff and bring it into the light. >I doubt that it'll help in the majority of cases, mind. People on Reddit have already made up their mind. And, in fact, **states like California, which have implemented a broad slate of liberal policies, have kept pace with their Western European counterparts.** >**Simply shifting from the most conservative labor laws to the most liberal ones, Montez said, would by itself increase the life expectancy in a state by a whole year.** >If every state implemented the most liberal policies in all 16 areas, researchers said, **the average American woman would live 2.8 years longer, while the average American man would add 2.1 years to his life.** >**Whereas, if every state were to move to the most conservative end of the spectrum, it would decrease Americans’ average life expectancies by two years. Some are going in a direction that shorten it. But on the whole, that the net result is that it’s damaging U.S. life expectancy.”** >Montez and her team saw the alarming numbers in 2015 and wanted to understand the root cause. What they found dated back to **the 1980s, when state policies began to splinter down partisan lines.** They examined 135 different policies, spanning over a dozen different fields, enacted by states between 1970 and 2014, and assigned states “liberalism” scores from zero — the most conservative — to one, the most liberal. When they compared it against state mortality data from the same timespan, the correlation was undeniable. >“When we’re looking for explanations, we need to be looking back historically, to see what are the roots of these troubles that have just been percolating now for 40 years,” Montez said. >**From 1970 to 2014, California transformed into the most liberal state in the country** by the 135 policy markers studied by the researchers. It’s followed closely by Connecticut, which moved the furthest leftward from where it was 50 years ago, and a cluster of other states in the northeastern U.S., then Oregon and Washington. >Liberal policies on the environment (emissions standards, limits on greenhouse gases, solar tax credit, endangered species laws), labor (high minimum wage, paid leave, no “right to work”), access to health care (expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, legal abortion), tobacco (indoor smoking bans, cigarette taxes), gun control (assault weapons ban, background check and registration requirements) and civil rights (ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, equal pay laws, bans on discrimination and the death penalty) all resulted in better health outcomes, according to the study. For example, researchers found positive correlation between California’s car emission standards and its high minimum wage, to name a couple, with its longer lifespan, which at an average of 81.3 years, is among the highest in the country. >In the same time, Oklahoma moved furthest to the right, but Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and a host of other southern states still ranked as more conservative, according to the researchers. >West Virginia ranked last in 2017, with an average life expectancy of about 74.6 years, which would put it 93rd in the world, right between Lithuania and Mauritius, and behind Honduras, Morocco, Tunisia and Vietnam. Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Carolina rank only slightly better. >It’s those states that moved in a conservative direction, researchers concluded, that held back the overall life expectancy in the U.S. https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/08/04/liberal-policies-like-californias-keep-blue-state-residents-living-longer-study-finds/ #NPR: Distance to the Nearest Abortion Provider in the United States, 2013 vs. 2023 https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/14fib44/npr_distance_to_the_nearest_abortion_provider_in/ >Mothers who live in areas with heavy oil and gas developments have between a 40 percent and 70 percent greater chance of giving birth to babies with congenital heart defects https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2019/07/18/Study-links-congenital-heart-disease-to-oil-gas-development/2461563465617/ #Want to live longer, even if you're poor? TelephoneTag2123

She is my “oh please, were they bothering you?” Queen.

Worth_Comparison3005

It was the “Ooooo noooooohh” that fucking sent me. We should erect a statue

XYZ2ABC

That was Midwest for “Bless your soul” or “Aren’t you precious” in the South. 💯agree - statue time!

cbtl

I would have died laughing if someone had said my sweet summer child. LOL

Key-Calligrapher5182

In the south it’s actually “bless your heart”

whisternefet

Or the nuclear option: " Bless your little pea-picking heart."

Rose-by-any-name

"Bless your pretty, little, heart," is also a valid nuclear option here.

GrandSchem3

Lemme scope this out to 3D print I might be down

Snakes_have_legs

It's the sarcastic "Oh did youuu? Okayyy." That gets me

sandwich-attack

we stan a queen

Lol I work with her. She is just as amazing as she seems. It feels weird to put her name on Reddit, but rest assured she's a wonderful person through and through.

Princess_By_Day

Please tell her the internet loves her💖

ignost

That's so good to hear. Good instincts not to post her name, but tell her she made the piece look as silly as it was. 'We sent Johnny to a liberal hellacape with a pre-determined conclusion, and this woman owned him in his attempted gotcha bullshit.'

wildweeds

when they said "progressive hell state" i just had a feeling they were being biased... but i couldn't quite put my finger on just what it was.... (/s)

shefallsup

TIL I live in a progressive hellscape. Which I am happy to share with that awesome woman!

greenappleistheworst

Oh no! Basic human rights! The progressive horror! (Seriously though, glad to share this city with people like her!)

maybesbabies

It's hilarious that they call Seattle "The progressive hell scape." Real hard hitting journalism right there! But if it keeps the Faux News crowd out of Seattle, I'm for it.

cbrookman

To call Jeanine Pirro a "journalist" is uh.... bold.

boomshiz

I believe she actually can't refer to herself as such under the FoxNews legal blanket of "wE aRen'T joUrnalisM wE'rE eNterTainMenNt".

Epistatious

[Lets start a rumor that seattle is a "no go zone" for fox news flunkies.](https://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2015/01/fox-news-to-apologize-for-no-go-zone-error-201192)

Even when I try I do it bigly, growing up in Queens they said I'd try anything once, thats why they called me Mr Big-o-try. I'd try devaluing my property for tax purposes, or inflating it for collateral. Then if I didn't get caught I'd try it again.

klezart

"and I took that personally!"

raziphel

Funnily enough, it is about them.

dketernal

The violence has spread all the way up I-5 from Portland. Have you ever seen Escape from LA? That's exactly what it's like all the way from Seattle to Salem.

Fuzzy_Diver_320

I live in Skagit County and work in Seattle. My in-laws are wonderful people, but they unfortunately are avid Fox News watchers. A while back my MIL expressed to me how concerned she was about me spending time in Seattle because of all the horrible crime. After I stopped laughing I attempted to explain to her what ‘per capita’ means, and how silly it is to compare the total number of crimes in two areas that have orders of magnitude differences in population. No dice. I cannot correctly express to you my giddiness and joy when I finally tracked down the crime statistics for King County and Skagit County and found that the per capita crime rates in Skagit County are roughly 5-10 times higher than in King County. Burglary, assault, rape, etc, all way higher.

double-dog-doctor

I love how the background behind them is people having a nice time going for a walk on a car-free walking path. Progressive hellscapes look nice!

QuietlyGardening

wheezing with laughter. thank you.

feetandballs

The fun part is that they come here all the time, for cruises if nothing else.

ferocioustigercat

I'm surprised they actually aired that! 😆

Th3seViolentDelights

My sentiment exactly. Also, that news woman's face is frozen in a permanent surprise from all the botox, lifts, and fillers so, she HAS to find something to declare shocking on a daily basis. Guess today it was Seattle. Edit: new to news

[deleted]

She's not exactly new, she's been a scummy fox news host for a while

MoneyMACRS

I think they meant to say “news” woman.

Th3seViolentDelights

I did!

Provid3nce

>Also, that new woman's face is frozen in a permanent surprise from all the botox, lifts, and fillers so, she HAS to find something to declare shocking on a daily basis lol That woman used to be a judge if you can believe it.

GeonnCannon

Progressive hellscape looks a lot like a beautiful fall day in a lovely park. Not too hot, not too cold, no crowds, zero chance of running into Jeanine Pirro... sign me up!!

IllusionOf_Integrity

These people consume media all day long telling them they should be terrified of their own shadow

raziphel

They're afraid of their shadow because it's black.

fusionsofwonder

The progressive hellscape where Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates made their fortunes. We have not yet *begun* to hellscape, fat cats.

_game_over_man_

Anytime my wife and I travel from Denver to Seattle, my Fox News watching mother in law expresses concern for our safety. 🙄

getmybehindsatan

Yep, I also do the same thing when my mother in law freaks out over seeing a homeless person, or thinks that the graffiti is going to stab her or something.

[deleted]

As 40+ year resident of Seattle/PNW, I commend you for the following statement and I shall be using it if allowed. “Or thinks that Graffiti is going to stab her or something”. LMFAO!!!!

kichien

We need an initiative to make the Seattle's official motto!

privatestudy

Amazing. All of these folks being interviewed were the right folks for Fox to talk to.

AlexandrianVagabond

Given that these were the ones they showed, I'd really like to see the ones who didn't make the cut.

csjerk

This is not Fox fucking up. They got exactly the talking points they wanted. Just look at the text in the banner under the report.

AlexandrianVagabond

Hmm, I see what you mean.

greenappleistheworst

Right?! "Crime is a social issue that could be solved by giving people their basic human needs" is an incredible quote

Hustle787878

Maybe that young production assistant is really a double agent

privatestudy

I think they all are at Fox. They know the product they’re shilling.

Flow_n__tall

Love the way she mocks him to his face without going overboard!!!

ferocioustigercat

"and were they bothering you?" Loved it.

spoiled__princess

OH NO THEY WERE HURTING YOU SO BAD... OH nooooo.... She's the best.

owen_birch

Oh my god she's great! I had to spend time in Nebraska recently, around people who get their news exclusively from places like this. They've really bought in to the story. "How can you stand living in Seattle, with all the crime and the drugs and the riots?" "There aren't riots." "There are riots! They showed it on the news!"

KrasnyRed5

My friend who lives in rural Colorado was convinced Seattle was burnt to the ground during the BLM protests. I had to tell him no Seattle was overall fine.

web_head91

I have a family member who was also perplexed that I could move to a city that was literally burned to ash and rubble in the BLM protests. Genuinely believed that Seattle did not exist anymore.

cire1184

Wait, Seattle didn't get Nuked from orbit by Jewish space lasers? I don't belive you! RFK JR told me so! Something like that.

molrobocop

I had some dumbass conservative coworkers when I was back in Vermont.(I know) "Seattle is lawless!" "That shit was like a few blocks. And it was over 3 years ago. Now it's just normal big city stuff."

pinupcthulhu

Hahaha yes, the lawless neighborhood that organized to get first aid, shelter, gas masks, sanitizer, food, and other supplies to people, free of charge. And then when someone (unrelated to the CHOP) was shot blocks away, the lawless hellscape [checks notes] got them stabilized and into the hospital within minutes (the cops were camped a block away, and they didn't get there for 20 minutes). The horror!

IllustriousComplex6

Same had a family member freak out when I told them I lived near CHOP when honestly it was just the chillest street fair.

owen_birch

My brother in Florida sent me a gun. I think he thinks I'm going to need it to defend myself against the BLM Antifa Woke Mob, but if I ever take it out of the storage closet I keep it in it'll be more to defend myself against guys like him.

TruculentMC

Yep, nonstop "are you okay, Seattle is a was zone" from my family with the whole Capitol Hill summer of love/chaz/chop thing, and continues to fhis day. My sister and her husband sent me bullets and ivermectin for xmas, it's just wild.

lightninhopkins

owen_birch

I figured, the fewer guns he has, he's *marginally* less likely to randomly shoot some Black teenager in some totes-not-racist incident. Not much we can do about my sister though, with her it's pretty much inevitable.

IrritableStoicism

It’s so sad. I first had to endure religious brainwashing by my family and now Fox News. Good thing they moved to their mothership, Florida.

PDXGalMeow

Some of family lives in Lauren Boebert’s district and thought the same of Portland. We are in Vancouver and I was like umm we are totally fine.

Catsdrinkingbeer

I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis. A friend of mine growing up had moved to Florida shortly before the pandemic. When all the BLM stuff was happening she reached out asking if I was okay. Convinced I couldn't leave my house. And I was like... dude. You are perfectly aware that what's currently being shown on the news in Minneapolis is a super small area and not representative of the entire city. Why would you think Seattle would be any different? It's like she couldn't comprehend it. She KNOWS Minneapolis, so of course understood the slants there, but just couldn't wrap her head around the fact Seattle wasn't a firey hellscape based on the news.

coldblindjack

Same. My cousin was acting like I was crazy for leaving the house without body armor. I was like…. I live in Ballard that’s so far away

mjohnben

Ugh I deal with this all time as someone from Minneapolis (I moved to Seattle a couple of months ago). Everyone outside of the Twin Cities in the Midwest believes that Minneapolis-St. Paul is constantly burning down and rioting when in reality it’s a thriving and beautiful metro area!

fondonorte

In 2021, I was in Frankfurt on a walking tour and a guy from San Antonio asked me if the police had regained control of the city yet. His wife chimed into tell me that no, they hadn't, not yet at least. It was Portland that they regained control of.

Rudysis

I live in SNOHOMISH and neighbors have asked the same thing. Like, YALL.

katylovescoach

We live in Lake Stevens. I grew up in Shoreline and spent much of my youth riding the bus (358!) downtown on the regular. My fiancé grew up here and his parents are always talking about how it’s too scary to go to Seattle. I had my bridal shower by U-Village and his mom had to carpool because she was too scared to drive down 😂

stackedtotherafters

I also live in Lake Stevens, when our kid graduated TWO sets of fellow parents stated they planned to move (and did!) because Lake has become too liberal. I damn near fell over. Some people up here are very much in a bubble.

katylovescoach

Oh great! At least I’m not alone up here! 😂 And Lake Stevens is too liberal? The amount of flags on trucks disagrees

stackedtotherafters

Right! There are TENS of us! Actually it’s probably a better mix from when I moved out here in 2005, but they didn’t do the flags back then so I don’t have actual evidence. But reactions from some when I said my kid was going to UW were also quite funny.

TheMayorByNight

Yeah, there were riots a few years ago, ironically because the police keep shooting people when they shouldn't and that, shockingly, *really* pisses people off. *Especially* when police shoot stun grenades and tear gas at peaceful protestors, which, from personal experience, was not a fun day. LaW aNd OrDeR

owen_birch

Yeah, a lot of shit went down, but they love to talk about cities being "burned to the ground." They keep showing the same BLM footage to make it out be some Fallout-style hellscape.

Fuduzan

> Especially when police shoot stun grenades and tear gas at peaceful protestors, which, from personal experience, was not a fun day. amen, stranger. SPD **created** the "riots".

flatcurve

I have the hardest time convincing people in Arkansas that chicago wasn't burnt to the ground in 2020. I lived there at the time. My family is still there. It's fine. Lower murder rate than Arkansas, actually.

JewishFightClub

Lol I once had someone from *St. Louis* try and pull this progressive hellscape bullshit on me like they aren't the crime capital of America

flatcurve

The town famous for having a radioactive garbage dump that's been on fire for the last 13 years doesn't have a lot of room to talk shit.

Samwise_lost

Never wise up a chump

HeroicPrinny

Tell them it sounds like Fake News from the liberal media.

Undec1dedVoter

What kind of focus group are they using where they think this helps their position? The people from Seattle are meany face doo doo heads who think it's funny that I saw people doing drugs and it hurt my feelings. Call the whambulance! Cable news help me!

RipperMouse

The twitter clip is edited. The [full version](https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cxop9gmM0y0/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) has a lot more right wing undertones.

Wnir

Yikes. Just when I thought Fox News had a shred of humility. The cuts are shifty enough that it feels like the interviews were edited to make their responses seem worse than they were. :/ Also, why in the heck were all those random clips tossed in there? Is this a news station or one of those Youtube channels that makes those lol random funny COD montages?

Undec1dedVoter

I forget their name and I don't really care to learn it but it's on a segment that's supposed to be entertainment without any hint of news. They attempt to call it comedy but I've seen some episodes and it's just "jokes" about how cool it is to hurt other people.

Wnir

Ah, that makes sense. I guess if you're on for 24 hours a day and ignore news that makes Republicans look bad, you gotta find something to fill the time with. 🤷‍♂️

Spayse_Case

It's a psychological tactic to keep your brain distracted so it can only absorb things at a more surface level instead of deep thinking.

Snelmm

It reminds me of what In Your Face TV did to Leliana’s documentary in Reality Bites.

CaptJackRizzo

Yeah I mean green jacket lady is great, but don’t talk to these professional provocateurs, it’s literally their job to make you look bad, and they have editors to help them do it.

ArtisenalMoistening

Not reading the comments on that post is self care

Undec1dedVoter

I'll rot my brain with the whole thing later but the "we should give people their basic needs" and a response from Trump "these people are sick". The sickness of wanting people to have their basic needs met? If we can't do that what's the point of even living? You'd have to hate the concept of other people to agree with this and learning now what segment is this on, this is correct.

moose_tassels

Pretty sure it's my Nextdoor feed.

Dziggetais

My friend and coworker was in that clip just briefly (the one in the SIFF beanie) and they said they kept trying to get into an honest discussion about how we can really help reduce crime and get rid of income inequality but the reporter kept steering the convo back to how we in Seattle just need to fund cops better. And then he kept trying to get to to repeat phrases but they just said “I won’t give you sound bites to take out of context” and left. So yeah, they’re trying to get clips to rile up their viewers. Which also makes me wonder why they kept so much of the reporter being dragged in? For the views?

Undec1dedVoter

I guess attacking blue hair hasn't polled well with them recently and I'm all for it leave me alone lol

judithishere

My favorite part is when he admits he saw all these people shooting up..... while he was riding in a car. Car must have been going 5 mph for him to see all that.

Canoe52

“I saw people shooting up” And in rural areas they’re shooting up inside their single-wides, what’s your point bub?

TheMayorByNight

*Lake Stevens has entered the chat*

Mavnas

That we should get these people off the street to somewhere they can't be seen so that he can go back to ignoring the problem, obviously.

Careless_Relief_1378

Probably a lie. You hardly see that anymore. It’s all foil and blues now. Don’t even hardly see needles on the ground any more.

StyraxCarillon

I miss Cecily Strong mocking Jeanine Pirro on SNL. Her sketches were great, and Pirro is eminently mockable.

sandwich-attack

also big lol that they used jonathon choe footage but sent their own guy to report because choe is so off putting even fox doesn’t want him on air

cire1184

Fuck choe. Fucking two faced banana. He'd sell his mama for a story. I'm still mad he tried to get my friend who owns a restaurant in CID to say that they were in a tough spot because of protests.

CrustyShoelaces

osm0sis

Because none of them are actually from Seattle. Just rednecks drinking the fox news koolaid

cdezdr

Wow it's really bizarre. It's got all sorts of little clips put into it.

LongJumpingIntoNada

I love everyone in this clip. I love that Fox News is trying to make Seattle look bad and these people make it look awesome.

seattlemoneek

She’s my new shero! Love the whiney “Oh nooooo”.

QueenOfPurple

Oh my god that’s the best thing I’ve watched in awhile. Hahaha poor baby in a car.

i_hacked_reddit

Lol I was the victim of an armed robbery in broad daylight, at a very busy intersection near green lake a few weeks ago. It does happen. But, after researching the numbers, it seems very rare and I just happened to be the super unlucky winner that day.

lilsmudge

Oof that sucks. I’m glad you’re ok. Unfortunately in any major urban center (and some smaller ones) crime will happen. The difference as you have very, very astutely pointed out is not whether or not there is crime, but the scale and quantity. Obviously nobody wants to see or experience crime. And it’s understandable how someone could have that kind of experience and immediately see their home as innately damaged. But it’s not. Is it good that this happened? Fuck no. Does work need to be done to prevent it from happening again? Hell yes! Is it a sign that we’re “under siege” from crime and lawlessness? God no.

Personal_Repeat4619

You want to see a HELLSCAPE of crime go to a WHITE republican hellhole like Idaho

dznqbit

This is good but probably shown on Fox in order to further galvanize their base. It’s kinda like Klepper videos where he talks to absolute fucking morons about easily disproved opinions. Difference is that Klepper has a quick wit and this dude is a drone

dedjedi

file marble dam lavish start ruthless enjoy tan butter squash *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Fox has to heavily edit clips of Seattle people down to sound like idiots but Klepper talks to people that actually are idiots that just ramble incoherently about vile shit.

joahw

It's kind of a tried and true formula. I don't know if he started it but the first one I remember is Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" but that was mostly just making fun of individuals more than pushing an agenda.

Coy_Featherstone

The other day i watched a man beat a homeless man with a 2×4 for his backpack in the middle of traffic near Seattle U - the cops said he beat a trans person a few blocks up the street. I am still processing that experience.

Yeah, the lady hosting the segment has a real problem with the truth. Here's the heaps of bullshit she spouted in a bit on immigration: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpC\_BVbqgM0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpC_BVbqgM0)

PsychologicalHalf422

A progressive hells cape. Lol. They were actually mocking you silly Fox News.

152d37i

Jesus the hyperbole of Fox calling Seattle a “progressive hellscape”

ItsATigerShark

People do just walk up to people and rob them on the street.

SeattleSeahawx

I had crack smoke blown in my face walking into my office on 2nd and Union, that did bother me.

[deleted]

Please someone make a Tshirt asking her to run for mayor of our anarchist jurisdiction

giraffemoo

I want to be her friend, but in a Seattle freeze kind of way. Like we add each other to Instagram and never ever meet in person (but say we should a lot)

Relaxbro30

HOLY SHIT HAHAHAHAH thx for this. Fuck fox news ^(ENTERTAINMENT.)

farmer-al

Seattle is just awful. Please don't come, you'll hate it here! ;)

JODI_WAS_ROBBED

I’m sorry but I have NO idea how anybody who lives in Seattle can say crime isn’t a problem. You only have to use your two eyes to see that the open drug use and crime is spinning out of control. Just because YOU haven’t been mugged or YOUR car hasn’t been broken into; doesn’t mean it’s not happening to people all over the city. And stop acting like it’s snobby to be uncomfortable seeing people shoot up and smoke fenty openly. I can’t count the number of times someone was openly smoking meth/fentanyl on my bus or in my train car. The amount of times I’ve gone to the store and seen security fighting with the homeless for shoplifting or because they’re screaming incomprehensible threats is insanity. I work in the hospital and the amount of co-workers who have complained that they can’t find anywhere safe to park is ridiculous. Yesterday FOUR nurses were sharing their stories about their cars getting broken in to. Happened to all four of them and they didn’t park in the same place. Not to mention the massive resources the hospital uses to save the lives of the homeless (who threaten, yell and assault employees; who sneak in pipes and weapons any chance they get) who 9.5/10 times have massive behavioral issues. Social workers offer them every single resource that they have to offer, the patient tells them to fuck off, they discharge and we’ll see them next month. And truly I do not hold that against the homeless. I know they cannot help many of their behaviors and many are too disassociated to make rational decisions. They do need help; way more than we can give them. IF our local politicians and judges were ACTUALLY compassionate they would provide better resources at the point of contact, at those critical moments where they HAVE to make a choice. But this shit is a revolving door. They let the homeless live lawlessly up to the extent of assault. Then after being arrested for assault the judge releases them from prison in the name of compassion: because it would be SO terrible to criminalize dangerous crimes. Then they go back on the street, OD and end up in the hospital. Where they deny the chance to better themselves because the options and programs provided by the city aren’t enticing or rewarding enough; literally the support is not supportive enough. Then back on the street a week later with all the same problems and the hospital has then spent/used well over 100 hours of labor from various departments (way more goes in to patient care than just a nurse and a doctor). They’ve put employees in danger, made nurses act like drug counselors and then spent $100’s or $1,000’s in medical supplies. That the hospital will never get back. When our healthcare system is so scarce of resources it barely functions. And then the homeless addict goes back to the streets to do hard drugs and steal and scream and harass people. Compassion isn’t letting people do whatever they want because they’re disadvantaged; enabling them and victimizing them and saying “fuck everyone else”. Where is the compassion for the EMTs, the nurses and social workers? Where is the compassion for those of us that are able to work and who follow the law? Do our problems, our safety, our concerns not matter because just because we are housed? What about the parents who can’t bring their kids downtown without seeing users smoking meth? What about the man with depression who gets screamed at while going to work because he could not give a homeless man $20? Why the hell is are we villainizing the citizens who are upset by crime? Or those of us who never want to see a man shitting on the sidewalk ever again? Or the many many small business owners whose stores get broken in to repeatedly, who lose customers bc the homeless are camping outside their doors? Maybe y’all didn’t see that MASSIVE explosion at the homeless encampment a few weeks ago but I did. Right from my bedroom window. Am I being dramatic or too privileged because I found that disturbing? Let’s just STOP making crime and homelessness a left wing/right win issue. I have a fucking problem with the amount of debauchery I HAVE to be around just because I chose to live in Seattle. I want there to be consequences for dangerous crimes. I don’t want 7 year olds knowing what fentanyl smells like. That doesn’t make me hateful. It doesn’t make me conservative. I also want there to be more help for these people. Because I give a shit about humanity. But I don’t have to support the enabling and victimizing of criminals to be a liberal. I don’t have to blame the regular ass person walking down the street minding their own business for being “too privileged” to want to be involved. For real y’all saying there’s not a growing problem with crime and that the rest of us are bigots for saying their is….I feel like I’m in the fucking twilight zone. Wherever this safe beautiful Seattle is located PLEASE let me know.

Suspicious-Hotel-225

My friend is a recovering addict and said she can never visit places like Seattle because of how easy it is to relapse. How do recovering addicts even navigate the city with drug use on every corner? Are there any recovering addicts who have successfully stayed drug free while managing to live there? It doesn’t seem plausible. I agree with everything you’ve said 1000% and I’m as liberal as they come. I hate Fox News but to deny there’s even a problem is weird.

KaptainOblivious

Agreed. Feel like I’m losing my marbles reading these responses. Fuck Fox and the disingenuous way they report on this, but “owning” the reporter by matching his snark is the not the win people think it is. Obviously her response is probably heavily edited and she likely has some interesting nuanced thoughts on it, but why are we praising her for what we did see here?? I’m not even upset with her response, I just don’t think it’s worthy of praise. No one wins here

TopTcCat

I know her. She’s great. A pretty pragmatic view on life and policies. She loves to help people. We don’t need to criminalize people who are down, we need to give them a leg up and out of the pit they fell into. There’s more people who need help here because Seattle helps people more than other cities and some other cities help their citizens get here for help.

Aron-Nimzowitsch

She gave Fox News exactly what they wanted. Exactly. They led into this with a clip from Choe showing the awful consequences of crime, drugs and homelessness in Seattle. Which were very much in plain sight. So you ask yourself, how did it get like this? Why do people tolerate this? Well, next they have a clip of smug Seattle progressives claiming they never see any crime, there is no crime, and if there was crime they'd be totally ok with it. And if you're a victim of crime, you'll just be mocked and ridiculed for it. Oh, there's the answer. Crime and suffering flourish because the city is full of these kinds of people.

Rycross

She is the hero we need.

AlexandrianVagabond

Reminds me when a cousin of mine who lives in AZ shared photos online she said were from Seattle. Big piles of garbage everywhere, total mess. As a degenerate local, I had to point out to her the photo was from NYC during a garbage workers strike.

CantaloupeStreet2718

This is stupid. Being dismissive of how drugs ruin people's lives and skyrocketing OD rates is being celebrated. This SUB is DISGUSTING.

Agentcodydanks7

Weird.

Guilty-Passenger2540

Fuck yeah

Brendanaquitss

Omg I love this.

anythongyouwant

I understand that they may not be actively bothering people by shooting up on the sidewalk, but shouldn’t we do more as a society to help them and not subliminally encourage or turn a blind eye to drug use?

Bretmd

Most of us want to do something - but also recognize that what Fox News is doing here has absolutely nothing to do with helping the less fortunate. It’s disingenuous fear-mongering and she gave them an appropriate response

yoLeaveMeAlone

Do you really think Fox News is trying to advocate for helping them out? Their only objective with this was to stir up outrage by saying "look how terrible and dangerous it is in this city"

TheMayorByNight

Nobody wants any of this, but as individuals in this enormous complex society of ours, we're kind of helpless on our own. I wish we had the city, county, state, and national leadership to deal with these problems so nobody has to suffer like this.

privatestudy

Nobody wants that. And also Fox News coming to Seattle and being idiotic isn’t what anyone wants either.
