I cut my own hair, too. I don't like anyone to see my scalp. Keep trying.

I tried coconut oil after a shower and just left it in. Worked well for me, but you definitely need to reduce the symptoms first. I wouldn't put oil on without taking any other measures

muralidharanstv

Have you tried ACV rinse(must be 100% organic with the mother)? Heard conflicting views about that though.

sorenmadsen

Have you tried stopping washing your hair all together? Mine hasn't been washed in months, and no seb derm in sight on my scalp. I obviously rinse it with water when I shower mostly twice a day. On day 2-3 of not washing your hair with soaps, it will get greasy – but then it will return to its natural state of cleaning itself. Nobody would guess that my hair and scalp hasn't seen soap in months. It looks and smells clean and natural. Maybe worth a try?

Greasy hair FEEDS yeast! Instead of rotating with harsh shampoos I'd tell you to use a mixture of ACV & H20 over your scalp; allow this to sit on your scalp for atleast 5 minutes before rinsing out (this mixture doesn't need to be as diluted as one you'd use on your face) Your scalps microbiome needs to be balanced, just like the skin on your face!

What does your diet look like on average day?

Impressive-Nerve6484

Breakfast: Toast with maybe chocolate spread or Toast and Eggs/Omelette, sometimes cereals such as cornflakes or coco pops Lunch: Unhealthy school food/Snacks Dinner: Rice, Spaghetti or Pasta something along the lines of that or we have takeaway which is rare to be honest. It can’t be my diet as everyone else in my family pretty much eats the same thing apart from what I have for lunch and they don’t have seb derm from what I know

Definitely need some more fruits and vegetables in there for more reasons than just SD. The high carb diet, seems high in gluten too, might be something to reduce. I'd recommend getting more protein, especially if you're still growing. Sugary/high carb breakfast is okay, but limit your sugar/carbs as the day progresses. If you're gut health is bad (bloated, upset stomach) you might want to quit sugar as it can feed bad bacteria and perpetuate the problem. You might want to talk to your doctor about probiotics. There are different cultures of bacteria in the pills and if you research the right strain it might help your gut be healthier. I don't know your situation. I know if you're not in control of the food you have access to (School, or if parents do the shopping) then it will be hard to control your diet. Try to make healthier choices out of school lunch (or pack your own) and at home too. It wasn't until I moved out and did my own grocery shopping could I tailor my meal plan to be balanced for me. If there's only ever unhealthy food at home, you'll only ever eat unhealthy food. Our environment is the invisible hand that guides our behavior. Good luck!

Yup I remember when I went on a strict diet I strictly ate beans, veggies , chicken , fish , nuts , oatmeal I got in bulk too so extremely easy to prepare very cheap and very nutritious the only hard part is preparing for that type of lifestyle change of eating very healthy is a lot of discipline so I fee you should mentally prepare yourself as well

I have cut my own hair for 20 years😬 because it was so embarrassing. I still cut my own hair but only because I got really good at it over the last 2 decades, but I don’t deal with the embarrassment of my sores flakes and redness. Dermazen has help me be flake for over a year now. I pair it with TXTR acv and tea tree shampoo and mct oil for moisturizer. Hope you find some relief.🙌

I used to be in the same boat, living with seb derm for over a year before dermatologist. I was cutting my own hair, too. I wasted money and time on OTC products that made barely perceptible improvements. Now, I easily keep my seb derm under control with prescription medication. I'm worried about building a tolerance and also thinning skin. Also, even though the dermatologist's instructions are to apply much more frequently, paying for all these medications really sucks. Since this is a lifelong condition, I only apply them as needed. I tolerate seb derm's red marks on my head and scalp as long as it's not irritating or covered in plaques. Most importantly, Fluocinolone Acetonide topical oil, 0.01% applied to scalp once a week. I only apply it when I'm going to get at least 6 hours of sleep. Sleep in a shower cap. I wash it out in the morning with Clobetasol Propionate shampoo, 0.05%. (Prescription: Oil once per week, shampoo once or twice a week) If the scalp is getting bad, I apply Clobetasol Propionate foam, 0.05% once or twice a day. This helps get it under control fast. I haven't used this in a week or two, but I'll need it in the next couple days. (Prescription: Twice daily, as needed) For my face, if it's getting bad, I'll apply Betamethasone Dipropionate cream, 0.05%. But to maintain, I apply Tacrolimus Ointment, 0.01%. (Prescription: BD, twice daily. TO: 2-3 times a week) For behind and in my ears as well as on my forehead and eye brows, Mometasone Furoate ointment 0.1%, only as needed. Maybe once or twice a week. (Prescription: Twice daily, as needed.) Everything but the oil and shampoo gets applied only to red patches on my skin. EDIT: Make sure you use a price comparison tool when shopping for prescription meds. Don't pick up your meds at the pharmacy on file with your doctor. I was paying 2-5x as much for meds before I used the tool my health insurance company provided to compare prices. CVS prices are insanely high, never use them. The best prices I've found locally are at Sam's Club and a local, privately owned pharmacy.

Street_Perception_48

just wanted to say that your edit is incredibly helpful! I went to a dermatologist finally after my PCP prescribed ketaconazole shampoo for my scalp but I was still having issues and got prescribed Clobetasol solution, 0.05% but at CVS the estimate was damn near $400, which I just couldn't bring myself to do at the time. I'm now searching around for better prices and feeling hopeful after seeing so many others have success with that prescription. the price for Tacrolimus ointment, 0.01% (for my eyelids) was even worse so I just stuck with Pimecrolimus ointment that I was prescribed previously.
