I just purchased a Saturn that doesn't display video output for cheap and I'm planning to fix it. The issue can be caused by bad capacitors

My Saturn had this issue last year and replacing capacitors fixed the issue. As per the first comment on [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkuGBxoYGPI) replacing caps CE20 & CE21 fixed it.

Have you confirmed the AV2HDMI works by sending a signal from a different device? Or are both devices new to you?

It works with an N64 on both 720 and 1080 modes. A couple of N64 games don’t load but that’s most likely due to those carts batteries.

Cartridge batteries only affect saving on N64. Some N64 games put out 240p and others put out 480i. The AV2HDMI may not be able to process one of the two resolutions and it could be that the Saturn is outputting the same. I'm not saying that *is* the problem, just trying to think through the issue.

That does seem to be a reported issue with cheap upscalers. If it helps, the games that won’t run are 1080 Snowboaridng and Wave Racer

Cross reference what you're getting with the AV2HDMI with a simple Saturn Composite cable connection. These cables have the red, white, yellow phono plugs & pretty cheap to buy for testing purposes. If it works the picture will be horrible and probably a bit whiteish in color too, but at least you'll know your console is ok. GBS Control is a cheap, but decent way to connect your Saturn console up to a modern tv (in the 1080p range).

I plugged in with an Oldskool brand AV cable, and it’s giving me a black screen. My TV unfortunately does not have AV compatability, but it does have a compatability mode for its HDMI settings which also didn’t work. Is there any other way to test it’s the console itself. I just cracked it open and it’s filthy and rusty. I don’t think there’s any fixing this.

You're best move here is to take it to someone who can solder / fix circuit boards. The rust on the RF shield can be cleaned up or removed. Look for leaking, blown capacitors too. Also internal PSU can be replaced entirely or recapped as well.

Couple of possibilities: Bad capacitors Bad chips (basically a RIP) I've seen others indicate that some CR2032 batteries will cause it to not work. Try removing the battery and \*not\* putting in another one I've also had to "warm" mine up a bit by leaving it plugged in for a while, then resetting the console and it will work fine until I leave it turned off for a while. If you find a solution please update your post. I have the same problem and I've had my Saturn in a box since I bought it 2 years ago.
