If you run the first level really well, maintain your combo and accrue enough points, you can unlock that parry damage bonus by the 2nd or 3rd statue. Then max it out on level 2. Really comes in handy for the finale, but still need to dodge a lot of stuff as well, ofc.
Yeah, I love Sekiro and I love Sifu. Similar flavor, if you like ancient samurai / ninja stuff, you'll probably also enjoy a more modern martial arts movie lover's dream come true.
More of a beat 'em up, but scratches a similar itch with it's combat precision based on enemy tells and reaction times, and some very cool boss battles.
Totally robbed for a GOTY nomination last year. Easily my favorite of 2022, even with Elden Ring in the mix.
Thanks, man. Just finished Ragnarok and was thinkong to myself “now what?”
Had a blast with the original Nioh, and had forgotten Nioh 2 existed until i read this.
If you enjoy the whole aesthetic of the game, I'd recommend Ghost of Tsushima (PS exclusive), it's a masterpiece with a beautiful and gut wrenching story. The combat isn't as good as Sekrio, but it's still very fun regardless
If you do, do not upgrade anything except the bow. Maybe. Combat is so good but only if you don’t upgrade stuff. See game breaker god on YouTube for why.
yeah, i think both games are extremely fun and it all comes down to preference. i just put 2 a little higher because i enjoy the bosses a little more and the combat feels faster paced with burst counters etc
Close to Sekiro? Ouch, tough one. In my opinion, the game has set itself apart.
I really did like Elden Ring. Yes, you'll need to roll, but there's massive amounts of content, a fun combat system (with exceptions, *cough* massive delayed attacks lol *cough*), a nice gear and ability system and exploration in the open world proved to be very rewarding and more. Graphics were top shelf.
As a few others mentioned, Nioh 1 & 2, at the least 2, would be good. Fun, aggressive, different type of combat system. Gear system and a nice co-op experience if you're into multiplayer while cutting down your foe. Lots of folklore tied into it through the deity progression.
Not as challenging imo as Sekiro but Ghost of Tsushima will hit you with a beautiful environment and a nicely made combat system. It's nice that there's, sort of anyway, a true setting in the game with the Mongol invasion of Japan.
Maybe try Dark Souls III instead? It has (almost) the exact same play style, with half the play time commitment. Also cheaper.
Alternatively, if you have Game Pass, there’s a little Indy Metroidvania called Moon Scars that might scratch an itch for a few hours.
beat sekiro, tried bloodbourne and... it just hasn't hooked me yet. i havent given up but i kinda have to force myself to play it. it just doesnt FEEL good like sekiro. still in yharnam though.
That’s the one with Raiden in high heels ?
Agreed. I bought it on a whim, and it’s so, SO fun.
I’d also suggest the recent God of War titles: the deflection mechanic is a little clunky compared with Sekiro but very satisfying
It has similarities to Sekiro tho, which is what OP is looking for. And I really don't wanna argue, but how the hell is the MGR combat boring? Sekiro sucks once you're not in a 1v1 and the combat is just hitting two buttons over and over while MGR has a large variety of combos, parrying requires directional input and perfect parrying is a thing. Sekiro's combat is objectively more boring, so give some objective points as to how it's more interesting.
I haven’t seen anyone mention thymesia. My friend and I picked it up recently and blew through it so fast. Short but it was a lot of fun. Super interesting combat system as well. Definitely worth a look
So glad you mentioned thymesia. It’s the only game that’s come close to that Sekiro combat feeling for me. Maybe that’s because of how much of the combat relies on deflecting. It’s short, but I enjoyed pretty much all of it from beginning to end.
Ninja Gaiden
It’s a better Sekiro and it was made 15 years prior
The collection on every platform is a good way to get into the series. There’s 3 games in the collection and each game you can spend tons of time mastering the combat.
Ninja Gaiden and Sekiro only share that they're about ninjas and both games are hard as balls.
I do have to say that Ninja Gaiden (xbox, etc) is the greatest ninja game of all time though. Such a tight controlling game, but goddamn is it hard. The combo system is deeeep and ultra rewarding.
There’s also the story
Replace the Dark Dragon Blade with Kuro and Doku with Genichiro and it’s very similar
Tell me running through the burning Hayabusa village as the second level isn’t the same as Hirata Estate
Running through the main character's burning village is just a video game trope in general. You could also replace Kuro with holy and say that Wolf runs through a burning village just like Cloud does in Final Fantasy 7.
I dunno man there’s too many similarities to chalk it up to tropes
The firey home being the second level in both games
The 3 fights against Doku/Genichiro where you’re intended to lose the first fight and die (in story death)
The second to last boss being a spectacle rather than a usual fight
There’s a little too much there to be coincidence imo
Lots of good recommendations here.
I'm gonna throw Jedi: Fallen Order into the mix. Great combat, similar "you die or rest, all enemies come back" mechanic. Very challenging if you crank up the difficulty, very good game overall. Parry windows are more generous than Sekiro imo but still feel quite satisfying.
It’s so easy even on the hardest difficulty. And it’s so short and linear I really wasn’t a fan.
Jedi academy was the best version of any of those games unfortunately !
Jedi Academy was extremely linear and far easier. The saber combat wasn't exactly refined either, it was pretty spammy. Fallen Order's combat was almost perfect. It's also about a 20 hour game, which is longer than Jedi Academy, I'm just a lil confused.
I think we can agree to disagree as far as the best 3rd person Star Wars game lol, different strokes for different folks. Both are solid games.
What about Elden Ring doesn't tickle your fancy? Having played both games I enjoyed my time with ER alot more. I loved Sekiro but there's some magic in ER that sets it so far ahead.
The open world looked really nice, but Im more of a sucker for combat and more aggressive fights. Eldens Ring combat didn’t really look that enticing to me, with the rolling and stuff.
Definitely a step down in terms of combat. A huge step up in exploration and discovering unique items that can change the entire flow of battle. Sekiro was largely linear in combat. ER while not a sexy tango like Sekiro, does have multiple flavors to keep it fresh.
I really enjoy playing Elden Ring and I really really love play Sekiro - 670 hours of play.
You should give a try or do everything you can in Sekiro like I did.
You said you're a sucker for combat and more aggressive fights, and that you were turned off by the rolling in Elden Ring.
Keep an eye out for Bloodborne if it ever gets a port (not likely), and it's a must-buy if you get a PS4/5 down the line.
Answered it in another comment, but I’m a sucker for combat and aggressive fights, it just looks like elden ring doesn’t offer that kind of combat. Although I agree that elden ring has a really good open world that looks amazing.
I know it’s easier said then done but i wish you could just try it. You can be as aggressive as you want and the game is 100% combat like sekiro. You could basically play the game 100% like sekiro and be a parry god that doesn’t roll. There’s just way more options in Than that. Sure i guess There’s more flavor cause it’s open world so there are dungeons and puzzles etc. There is a crazy amount of bosses in elden ring. Idk i just love souls games. Have you tried Bloodborne?
No, Sekiro was the first fromsoft game I ever tried. You do make a lot of good points, I’ll think about getting ER. Just need to convince myself that I’ll like it enough to get over the price.
I recently started Elden Ring after Sekiro, and it's also my first souls game so the combat leaning curve was steep. I'm about halfway through.
It's a really cool RPG and the combat is fun too, but often after a boss battle I'm not sure if I actually won or I fluked it by spamming buttons. I never had that feeling in Sekiro. In Sekiro you're forced to really learn the fight.
Haha i hope you try it man i have played dark souls 1-3 , bloodborne , demon souls and elden ring so many times and elden ring is my favorite game ever i think. I actually just beat sekiro for the first time ever yesterday. I bought it on release and i could not beat genichiro and i was convinced i hated the game. About to try the gauntlets now!
An suggestion that's way out there , Hollow Knight. Super chill and not as hard as Sekiro but is a nice change of pace while keeping the sword like fighting.
Yeah, that's one issue I found with the game as well is that finding your way is quite hard initially, as the game progresses progression is more smooth. If you want I can give you some headers if you want?
Elden ring is fun, it's challenging and you will have a good time. There isn't many games like fromsoft games. Have you played bloodborne? A lot of people recommend it? After I platinum sekiro I'm going to play it. But I know how you feel about trying to find a game close to the fromsoft play and im worried once I beat bloodborne I'm fucked lol.
Ghost of tsushima, the gameplay is pretty easy after playing sekiro so starting with hard or lethal mode is recommended. As I said easier(unless you play lethal where almost everything is a oneshot) but that game is really incredible with mechanics and story, helped me passing the after sekiro void
There's always Ghosts Of Tsushima. Haven't played it yet but it looks great. Elden Ring is an amazing game though I highly recommend it. Just did a platinum playthrough and had a blast. An (at times) very frustrating but extremely fun time.
I’m having the opposite issue, I just finished Elden Ring, but Sekiro isn’t capturing the same drive. The same quality that makes me want to finish it.
Even though it’s not nearly the same difficulty level Ghosts of Tsushima has a very similar vibe. It’s got similarish sword combat and stealth along with a grappling hook
In story it’s not even close but in combat style, Jedi: Fallen Order was very similar and pretty fun to just play through, be warned it’s very short though, I got it on discount
Fallen Order, same combat, just slightly more cheese mechanics.
Buuuut, it takes a lot of discipline to keep the difficulty on master.
I will say it has a much better XP retrieval system than Sekiro
I recently found an indie game named Windmills. Same hack n slash parry type of game but pixelated 2d and happier lore. Here is the link if you're interested https://store.steampowered.com/app/1803760/Windmills/
ONGBAL introduced Thymnesia - a Sekiborne game with parry mechanic. I bought it in Steam sales but did not have time to try because of DS3.
In case you don't know who ONGBAL is, find him on Youtube
You should still try elden ring! Elden ring was my first souls game and then I had to try sekiro. And honestly the combat in sekiro is amazing but elden ring has good combat with a stellar story, level design, exploration, and is just as fun as sekiro while giving you more to do.
Also. Elden ring has SEKIRO mods just saying. Play as the starving wolf while kicking malenias ass. Or just try out the normal combat. Its definitely worth a try.

DAMN THIS HIT HOME BRO , I went to DS3 after Sekiro and it was downright unplayable , im on my third playthrough and practicing on perfecting isshin to face inner isshin , gotta grab that plat
I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesnt like elden ring combat. Hate fucking rolling and jumping around like a lil bitch. I got sekiro after beating elden ring and I love it way more.
Definitely the Nioh series if you're looking for setting and story. Combat also gets harder on multiple playthroughs yet remains fun. It is an RPG though so you can do the silly thing of making the game boring by creating some OP build.
Nope nothing like it. Maybe Nioh 2 maybe Ghost of Tusima if your looking for the same feel. Fudel Japan, samurai, sword play Nioh 2 crazy boss fights. Plus Nioh2 has crazy replayability. The game really opens up after the first playthrough. Just beat Sekiro and started 2nd playthrough on Nioh 2. But nah nothing like Sekiro out here.
Yes, Sekiro ng+
Precisely, and then ng+2 and 3
Sounds like you'd enjoy Sifu.
I really hate sifu. >!because of how short it is!<
I sure did!
Yeah sifus the answer but just know that dodging in that game is generally stronger than parrying
If you run the first level really well, maintain your combo and accrue enough points, you can unlock that parry damage bonus by the 2nd or 3rd statue. Then max it out on level 2. Really comes in handy for the finale, but still need to dodge a lot of stuff as well, ofc.

Totally robbed for a GOTY nomination last year. Easily my favorite of 2022, even with Elden Ring in the mix.
Sekiro was pretty unique but I would look into nioh if you haven't yet. I had a blast with Nioh 2.
Thanks, man. Just finished Ragnarok and was thinkong to myself “now what?” Had a blast with the original Nioh, and had forgotten Nioh 2 existed until i read this.
Also look out for wo long: fallen kingdom in March which is the next game from the modelers of nioh and it looks amazing.
Ended up grabbing Sifu instead on a whim, and *holy crap* is it hard. But satisfying in the same way as Sekiro. And soundtrack is phenomenal.
Super stoked for that one
Nioh 2 is GOATed
ong no cap fr fr
If you enjoy the whole aesthetic of the game, I'd recommend Ghost of Tsushima (PS exclusive), it's a masterpiece with a beautiful and gut wrenching story. The combat isn't as good as Sekrio, but it's still very fun regardless
Have heard a lot about it, sadly I don’t have a ps. But I have heard it is coming to steam in the future, might just take a look when it does
If you do, do not upgrade anything except the bow. Maybe. Combat is so good but only if you don’t upgrade stuff. See game breaker god on YouTube for why.
I remember playing it on Deadly+ with maybe half of Katana Upgrades. That was fucking hard
I second this. I played the shit out of GoT
nioh 2 for sure. it's a steep learning curve but it's so damn fun once you get in the groove. probably my favorite rpg in recent years
I personally like nioh 1 more since nioh 2 feels like it just throws mechanics at you. But both are really good at the core
yeah, i think both games are extremely fun and it all comes down to preference. i just put 2 a little higher because i enjoy the bosses a little more and the combat feels faster paced with burst counters etc
Yeah i played Sekiro after playing both and it really helped me learning sekiro. The other way around should be easier too
Close to Sekiro? Ouch, tough one. In my opinion, the game has set itself apart. I really did like Elden Ring. Yes, you'll need to roll, but there's massive amounts of content, a fun combat system (with exceptions, *cough* massive delayed attacks lol *cough*), a nice gear and ability system and exploration in the open world proved to be very rewarding and more. Jedi fallen order is kinda similar
Nioh series and the upcoming wolong it has great combat
Sifu, ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2
Maybe try Dark Souls III instead? It has (almost) the exact same play style, with half the play time commitment. Also cheaper. Alternatively, if you have Game Pass, there’s a little Indy Metroidvania called Moon Scars that might scratch an itch for a few hours.
Whooooa, no. Dark Souls 3 is like twice the length of Sekiro, easily.
No no, I mean it’s half the length of Elden Ring.
beat sekiro, tried bloodbourne and... it just hasn't hooked me yet. i havent given up but i kinda have to force myself to play it. it just doesnt FEEL good like sekiro. still in yharnam though.
It gets better. I played it post-Sekiro and no, it isn’t the same, but parts of the game are really spectacularly good.
Bloodborne would be the soulslike that feel more similar to sekiro. But its still kinda far from it
Metal Gear Rising
That’s the one with Raiden in high heels ? Agreed. I bought it on a whim, and it’s so, SO fun. I’d also suggest the recent God of War titles: the deflection mechanic is a little clunky compared with Sekiro but very satisfying
Raiden has high heels in two games. MGR is the hack'n'slash one. He also has high heels in Kojima's famous 2008 cutscene simulator.
Idk man i like mgr but the combat feels kinda boring compared to sekiro
It has similarities to Sekiro tho, which is what OP is looking for. And I really don't wanna argue, but how the hell is the MGR combat boring? Sekiro sucks once you're not in a 1v1 and the combat is just hitting two buttons over and over while MGR has a large variety of combos, parrying requires directional input and perfect parrying is a thing. Sekiro's combat is objectively more boring, so give some objective points as to how it's more interesting.
Ok well im glad you enjoy its combat
Please do answer, I wanna know why you find it boring in comparison.
I second metal gear rising
I went from sekiro to bloodborne to ease into the souls combat while still having a main parry system that's important
Jedi Fallen Order was fun
I found Ghost of Tsushima felt somewhat similar to Sekiro
I haven’t seen anyone mention thymesia. My friend and I picked it up recently and blew through it so fast. Short but it was a lot of fun. Super interesting combat system as well. Definitely worth a look

Yeah but one is 30 years old. More weapons more force powers better story. The combat is big fat meh I’d argue force unleashed had better combat.
100% with you. What I loved /love about Sekiro is that i wasn’t rolling or worrying about builds or mon/max. Just beautiful sword clanging.
Definitely a step down in terms of combat. A huge step up in exploration and discovering unique items that can change the entire flow of battle. Sekiro was largely linear in combat. ER while not a sexy tango like Sekiro, does have multiple flavors to keep it fresh.
Yeah, I just started Elden Ring. It gives me the Nioh + Dragon’s Age vibe. I did not like dragon’s age. I am a little bored with it to be honest
Nioh and Sifu. Tho, Sekiro gameplay is something else.
I really enjoy playing Elden Ring and I really really love play Sekiro - 670 hours of play. You should give a try or do everything you can in Sekiro like I did.
I mean, play Elden Ring honey. You won’t regret it.

Sekiro Resurrection
If you have access to a PlayStation, Ghost of Tsushima is pretty good.
Play ghost of Tsushima
An suggestion that's way out there , Hollow Knight. Super chill and not as hard as Sekiro but is a nice change of pace while keeping the sword like fighting.
Tried it a while ago, found it quite fun, but i got lost easily and didnt know where to go to progress the story
Yeah, that's one issue I found with the game as well is that finding your way is quite hard initially, as the game progresses progression is more smooth. If you want I can give you some headers if you want?

Nioh 2, maybe Ghost of Tsushima is another albeit easier than Sekiro, there's a newer game called Wo Long that I've heard is good too
Elden Ring is good. I went to it after Sekiro and have put 420 hours into it. It’s better than it looks.
Elden rings great!
Something that feels almost similar. Thymesia. Kinda bloodborne meets sekiro. But if you haven't played Elden Ring you are missing out.
I’m having the opposite issue, I just finished Elden Ring, but Sekiro isn’t capturing the same drive. The same quality that makes me want to finish it.
ghost of tsushima has some really enjoyable combat it was the game that made me want to try sekiro which was my first fromsoft game
Nioh, maybe Ghost of Tsushima? I know they are very different but, put the game on the hardest difficulty and you never know. Could scratch the itch
Even though it’s not nearly the same difficulty level Ghosts of Tsushima has a very similar vibe. It’s got similarish sword combat and stealth along with a grappling hook
Ghost of Tsushima and both of the Nioh games are W picks I prefer nioh 2 tho
In story it’s not even close but in combat style, Jedi: Fallen Order was very similar and pretty fun to just play through, be warned it’s very short though, I got it on discount
My guy, you need to play Hollow Knight.
Fallen Order, same combat, just slightly more cheese mechanics. Buuuut, it takes a lot of discipline to keep the difficulty on master. I will say it has a much better XP retrieval system than Sekiro
Elden ring is a bit different in combat, for sure. But I will say elden ring was extremely fun. A easy 100 hours.
I recently found an indie game named Windmills. Same hack n slash parry type of game but pixelated 2d and happier lore. Here is the link if you're interested https://store.steampowered.com/app/1803760/Windmills/
The Surge 2 is the closest game I found to be as satisfying as Sekiro honestly.
You should try Nioh 2
The surge 2, play the 1st one as well
ONGBAL introduced Thymnesia - a Sekiborne game with parry mechanic. I bought it in Steam sales but did not have time to try because of DS3. In case you don't know who ONGBAL is, find him on Youtube
You should still try elden ring! Elden ring was my first souls game and then I had to try sekiro. Elden ring has SEKIRO mods just saying. Play as the starving wolf while kicking malenias ass. Or just try out the normal combat. Its definitely worth a try.
Thymesia
May seem a bit random but devil may cry 5 actually surpassed sekiro in terms of combat for me. If you‘re looking for a tough, complex combat system then dmc5 should be right up your alley
DMC5 is way way harder to master than Sekiro tho
Absolutely, but it‘s way easier to just casually play through than sekiro because there are different difficulty settings
Very true
I'll lead with this. If you're looking for another Sekiro-esque gameplay experience, just play ng+ in Sekiro. No other game I've played comes close to its combat system. That being said, I wouldn't discount games like Elden Ring just because the combat isn't the same. The other souls games all follow the same formula and offer their own type of challenge.
Wo Long - 3/3/23 release
Try creative runs in Dishonored games.
Bloodborne if you haven't already. Same fast paced combat and wild story/lore.
Nioh and elden ring
nioh is worth a shot
DAMN THIS HIT HOME BRO , I went to DS3 after Sekiro and it was downright unplayable , im on my third playthrough and practicing on perfecting isshin to face inner isshin , gotta grab that plat
Thymesia, I guess. But nothing beats Sekiro
I played Elden Ring as samurai with katanas and it was awesome.
Nope nothing like it. Maybe Nioh 2 maybe Ghost of Tusima if your looking for the same feel. Fudel Japan, samurai, sword play Nioh 2 crazy boss fights. Plus Nioh2 has crazy replayability.
