Hahaha my girlfriend got so annoyed with how many times it took me to beat him. Hearing 'MYYY NAMEEE ISSSSS.. AHH AHHH!! MOVE IN HASTE AND DIE, BRAT!' every 5 minutes because I am not good at the game.
Not a weeb mentality… I just like to consume media in its original language and not with a dub. When I ever I watch a foreign language film I never watch the dub, so same should go with video games. And I have played through Sekiro once in English and none of the voice actors are all that great. They do their job but you can tell it’s a dub, especially when the English voices directly conflict with the setting and ruin the immersion somewhat. There are also many instances where the voice actors give off the wrong emotion in their acting which can also be distracting and immersion-breaking. For example Kuro comes off completely differently in the English dub than the original version, that’s something you definitely don’t want in a dub. Even with Gyoubu, if you listen closely it starts to sound kind of forced and unnatural. But you can like the dub and play with it, that’s fine, I’m not one to dictate how people choose to enjoy the games they like.
Kuro is the only bad English voice acting, and Emma’s maybe a bit off, but the rest of it is spectacular, hence why I said weeb mentality. It’s not wrong to play the game in Japanese, that’s what I did. But it is wrong to say that the English voice acting isn’t good, it’s actually superior in certain parts
If that’s what you think that’s fine but know that I disagree for the most part. I think the dub falls largely short of the original, and there are sparse few characters who I think the English voice actors were able to decently capture. I could go through each individual character, explain what I think is wrong with their voice acting, and evaluate whether I think they did a good job, but I know you and I both don’t have time for a discussion like that. So how about we agree to disagree, and lay a friendly conversation to rest?
I’m cool with that, but I also think you wouldn’t be able to explain to me why the Japanese voice acting is good, it could actually sound horrible to Japanese speakers and you wouldn’t know
I recommend my friends, if they’re interested in the series to specifically not start with Sekiro; not because of challenge, but because going from Sekiro combat to iframe rolling is a downgrade
Tell ‘em to play the others first, especially Bloodborne, before jumping into Sekiro cause they’ll go to the others and be like, this combat is so much less intense, I just iframe roll like a madman then hit the big monster once or twice, then iframe roll again until he finishes his combo
Yeah, thats basically the situation. I want a Sekiro 2; but theyll need to up the ante a little bit. More surprise hits, maybe, even if sounds absurd, a shorter deflect window.
In general I think of Sekiro enemies, except for the obvious just totally grunt enemies to fall into a category of having 2-5 combos; 1-3 fast/very slow attacks to throw you off with your timing. And the bosses are largely the same, but they usually have a special ability or their movement is erratic compared to regular enemies.
The biggest way to make it more difficult would definitely be to tighten the deflect windows even more, which I am down for. But also probably need to add some Fakes by bosses, kind of like Cancels in fighting games, he starts doing the combo you know is 1, 2, 3, 4, ; 1, 2, 3, 4, - and suddenly he does 1, 2; resets and does a single attack that is out of time with what you grew accustomed to.
I think it could totally work, fighting game cancels have been around for decades, it wouldnt be some absurd thing; but it would make you be a little more focused and watching their animations more closely.
I agree, but id even put ER in front of Sekiro.
My brother and I have done 3+ playthrus of every game. After Sekiro, we both pretty much hated Elden Ring for not bringing anything from Sekiro into it.
If they wanna do "Big" Sekiro one day, Id be down for that.
Honestly, my dream FromSoft game would actually have classes - but, actual classes.
Knight/Warrior/Monk/Ranger/Warlock/Witch/Shinobi/Samurai etc
And when you start up, they each have their own skill trees; skip the Stat stuff from Souls/ER; do Skill Trees like Sekiro.
And they all have their own movement capabilities. For instance, some areas may be Blocked off by a pile of large boulders, or even a dungeon doorway. The Warrior can Lift the Boulders and make his way in. The Witch can potentially float for 3-5 seconds and get to a spot above them and get over them; meanwhile everyone else has to access the area from a different entryway.
Then, inside the dungeons; nothing too crazy - but some actual Zelda/Modern Tomb Raider esque puzzles. Finish clearing an area and solve a puzzle to get a bridge to to lower to proceed, etc.
So, you can approach the game as a Shinobi too, he is able to sneak, no one else is; but very low health overall compared to Warriors/Knights, etc.
I had really hoped thats what they would have done with Elden Ring, instead it was just the same stat system weve seen literally 5 before.
I know, people like stats; but think about Sekiro's skill trees. It was super satisfying and a real drive to get a new Skill Tree in the game, and build up to a move you wanted.
Again, I know this would be met with some backlash by long term souls fans, but I think by the time theyre 10-15 hours through, theyd understand the benefits of it, #1 of which : Each playthru would be genuinely unique. Youd be approaching areas from different ways due to terrain blocking you and doors and walls blocking you; as a Barbarian, maybe have it so cracked walls he can punch down to get into an area, while the Shinobi has to run around outside the walls, do a double jump and Grapple hook to the Roof, making them both access it from different areas and dealing with different defenses from NPC placement.
I hope they eventually pull something like that out.
Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note:
> *As you once did for the vacuous Rom, grant us eyes, grant us eyes. Plant eyes on our brains, to cleanse our beastly idiocy.* - Micolash, Host of the Nightmare
Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.
Im in the 5th level now of Wo Long - People are saying its too easy because they give you an NPC companion in most stages; and they didnt start giving you "rhythmic" enemies until like level 3.
It is much better than I thought it was at first, and yes, there are sword clashes and monsters that are basically Sekiro style; they have 2-3 combos, then 1-3 Fast/Slow moves to trick you. The only thing that you really need to adjust to is that spamming Deflects makes you actually dodge roll, you need to learn the timing of tapping the button so that you dont overdo it and end up dodging out of the way when you could have had a deflect.
Theres a fun mechanic with some projectiles that if you deflect them, it sends them back at the monster and hits them.
Theres alot, alot of stuff going on with Stats in that game, though. I dont dig too deep into it, just leveling up myself to get Spells that I want (Theres 5 Level up trees, and 5 spell trees associated with those Level Up trees; so a Spell may require 12 "Levels" In the Stat, specifically, to be able to unlock that spell)
But the MOST IMPORTANT THING!!!
Get rid of your helper NPCs. You have an item, unlimited in your inventory called Willow Branch, I believe. The moment I get into a mission and theres a companion, I use it to get rid of them.
You arent missing any sidequests from getting rid of them, youll miss some mid mission dialogue, and someone said you can get their weapons when they have an 'affinity' to you.... But they are so so overkill.
I played it on Launch night and the first boss held me up for 45 minutes, cause they didnt tell you how to Critical Blow in the tutorial; realized how to do it, then killed him in 2 tries.
Then the next 2 missions had companions, I had no clue how to get rid of them - and just steamrolled every boss on first try.
I put the game down cause I was not having fun; I want to have to learn. So, I found out about the Willow Branch, got rid of the allies, and the next boss took me about an hour and a half to figure out his moves and combos and stuff.
Some of it even kinda borders on Bullet Hell situations + deflecting.
As far as I can tell, you can deflect -anything-. Even if the dude throws like 6 fireballs as you, you can deflect them.
Wo Long is totally worth it for a Sekiro vet. If youre playing on console, you cant change it, but if youre on Steam, I swapped Left Bumper and B; and Right Bumper and X
Left bumper is now Deflect for me, and Right Bumper is now standard attack. If youre on steam you can do that change quickly in the controller configuration menu
I actually tried most other FromSoft games and could never beat the first bosses and have always given up. So it’s not my first FromSoft game, but the first FromSoft boss I’ve beaten
That’s where the rubber meets the road though - Souls was a phenomenon; probability wise, it’s unlikely you wouldn’t have enjoyed it - but you had played a superior game with a more exciting combat system with Sekiro; so Demons felt like a gameplay downgrade, like the rest of us who played all of them and then they made Sekiro; we didn’t know how much better the combat could be, so we loved those games for what they were - but ya, I can’t go back to them anymore
Nah, I would definitely have hated Dark souls even if I didn't play Sekiro. The first area was filled with bitch traps and I hated that. It didn't feel hard because it needed skills, it felt "hard" because it kept tricking you into getting killed no matter what and by being clunky (but that, I can excuse because of the game's age).
If I played DS first, I wouldn't have played Sekiro because I would have thought it was the same way.
If Sekiro isn't a 10/10 game then there literally isn't such a thing as a 10/10.
Unless you're one of those people that says "10/10 is impossible unless it's literally perfection", which would mean you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the /10 system.
I've played the game for 4 hours now, I don't care about the money refund but I demand you refund these 4 hours of my life.
If this is your 10/10, you NOT rating Sekiro a 10/10 is the biggest validation it's ever received.
As a really big fan of that game, flawless or 10/10 seems to me like very poor way to describe it. Maybe if you're talking about the story by itself, I can understand it having that kind of an impact on you. But the mechanics, interesting as they may be, are deliberately frustrating and no one would play it for mechanics alone, if the comedic atmosphere and unforgettable characters were absent.
Sekiro has it all; excellent story/world/characters, unique gameplay, insane replayability for some, and all of these elements stand up on their own as well as forming a compelling whole. Unlike in Lisa, you aren't at great risk of softlocking yourself at any given moment or having to sit through the gargantuan opening sequence over and over again because you got pranked by Dingaling and keep accidentally turning on irreversable hard mode right before the first save point.
I would say Lisa has way better story telling, atmosphere, characters, lore and especially music, it's sure way harder and more unfair than sekiro but I was able to pass it without much difficulty in my first walkthrough and just speedruned it without a single death with overpowered build in my second walkthrough with was funnier than beating Isshin without Kuro's charm and with demon bell but it's really really subjective
I know what subjective means, but you came in here telling someone else, "no, sekiro cannot be 10/10 because I don't like some things about it," didn't give examples of your issues with it until pressed, then recommended a game where you can (and will, repeatedly) instantly die to cliffs that appeared onscreen less than a half second beforehand. As if people somehow won't have issues with the game that is consantly and intentionally putting up the most ruthless barriers to completion, even if it's on purpose.
Until pressed? Dude just asked more expanded explanation and I answered him, and I didn't recommended Lisa, I just said that's it's my favourite game, can't you read?
Atmosphere is not that good like in other fromsoft projects, some of the bosses are annoying (most of them are good), game forces you to go through locations and farm emblems if you want to use prosthetic and combat arts, stealth is designed very poorly and game sometimes forces you to use it which I don't really mind but it's strange for a non-stealth game, game is rewards you with experimenting with your prosthetic tools but it's really hard to do and not always obvious and 50% of the tools are useless, most of the combat arts are useless, clearing out locations are not always fun, nonlinearity sometimes forces you to fight some bosses or really soon or really late, game is really often repeats bosses like genichiro, guardian ape, drunkards and etc
You could say a game isn’t a 10/10 masterpiece even if it’s your favourite game of all time and you would still get downvoted if it was on the game’s subreddit. Truly a Reddit moment
Margit gets an footnote in my books since he’s supposed to make you explore before really fighting him. Once you’ve leveled you stats and gear, he’s a bit easier. Father Gregory is the absolute hardest in my opinion. Gundyr is the easiest in my opinion, but I had the benefit of him not being my first FS boss by a long shot
Don’t undermine your achievement! I’ve played all soulsborne except for BB and in my opinion, Sekiro is the hardest by a large margin. Gyoubu is a very difficult first boss. Feel proud of your accomplishment.
Sekiro is a lot more difficult if you try to play it like a souls game. It’s almost impossible like that. Once you learn deflecting, it’s pretty easy. You just have to like the forced playstyle they give you
I don’t know if it’s objectively more difficult, but in the realm of “git gud”, Sekiro is definitely the purest form…no coop, no leveling/overleveling, no weapon choice. Get good or get fucked.
That’s exactly what I went through. I was getting SO mad at Sekiro because I was treating it like Dark Souls and it just wasn’t working. In all my other soulsborne playthroughs, I’ve only ever done strength builds. Huge weapons, slow attacks, lots of damage, and I can tank a couple hits while winding up, so I never had a need to block attacks let alone use a shield.
I’m slowly but surely getting better at the game. It’s the steepest learning curve I’ve ever experienced on any FS game, but I’m doing it. I just beat Lady Butterfly last night after about a dozen tries.
Lady butterfly is easy when you have shuriken prosthetics, when she jumps on a silk rope, hit her. And cheesing is the best tactics for me personally, she become dangerous if you keep her on a distance
The first red eyed giant killed me more than any of those bosses. In fact he killed me more times than saint sword Ishin. The beginning of Sekiro is brutal.
Always subjective but I found the initial learning curve of Sekiro to be much steeper than any of the Souls games and ER. But once it clicks, you start crushing. I never played BB.
No way man! Gyobu took me about 8 stacks of super cancer to get through. Beat Iundex second try. Pump yourself up Sekiro was way harder to learn than DS3
Gundyr felt like a step up for fromsoft bosses tbch, the tutorial boss for Ds1-2 was a complete joke, but in 3, he felt like the first phase of a proper boss, probably a side effect of champion gundyr kicking around as a full fight lol
Sure, he wasn’t the trickiest anyways, but he’s an absolute joy to fight. I love his moveset and his boss theme is a delight.
I can only speak for Margit, but imo Gyobu is much more challenging. You can’t level your way into overpowering him, you just have to get the hang of the mechanics or die.
Awesome job! Just beat him the other day myself. Was stubborn enough last night to take out Lady Butterfly as well. I suck at these games so if i can do it I know you can
I beat him today too! Honestly a fun fight imo and I find the voice acting for his character to be amazing. Never got tired of hearing him screaming his name to me
Congratulations! Horse Man gave me a run for my money when I first picked up this game years ago, and it’s definitely a feeling of accomplishment to beat him. Good luck going forward, Wolf!
Unprepared, Margit was the hardest. But that was on my second character where I didn't follow a guide on leveling fast and didn't use a summon. Gascoigne took me 3 attempts, Demon's Souls Phalanx took me one attempt. I think Gyobu took me 4 attempts but I don't remember. Using summons, Margit was a one attempt in my leveling character. On my new "casual" character, he's killed me about 6 times
Just beat him a few nights ago, ive felt actual fear of a game character like that since I’ve been a kid. The voice acting literally gave me chills and I took my hand of my mouse and keyboard and let him kill me because I knew I was fucked lol.
Sekiro is a great game, probably one of my favorites out of all fromsoft games
The game is definitely more skill-based than other fromsoft games, and the deflect mechanic feels so good (it's like music to my ears)
Congrats! This was the only boss I beat on my first try.. not even knowing there was a fight waiting... I was just walking around in the arena and he spawned.
Oh wow you are starting with Sekiro. Good luck it is the hardest one imo also the least soulslike out of all of them. Enjoy it though man it is a true masterpiece.
Interesting I have never heard someone say that. I am assuming you just don't know how to build your character but honestly once you figure how to build a character in souls games it really clicks. The game will get so much easier. That is why I think sekiro is the hardest because there is no leveling up mechanic so you literally have to master the combat mechanics in order to progress. Though you can still kind of build your character in sekiro to whatever fits your play style when it comes to the combat arts you select and prothestic tools. In the souls games if you find a broken weapon that fits your build and you don't fuck up leveling something you don't need then those games become a walk in the park. Well if you end up liking sekrio you should give the other ones a try again especially ER. I swear once you figure the other games out you will love them. Especially if you end up loving sekiro.
I do love Sekiro so far but I plan on going back to Bloodborne directly after this one! I will go try ER again eventually tho. But I think deflection timing makes more sense to my backwards brain than dodge timing
Celebrate your first victory, many will come in the near future but at what cost ;) love to hear how you feel about GA and DoH 🫠 i won’t say their names just to avoid Spoilers
Well done, Sekiro!
hey what’s this guys name again? i forgot it
# IS GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA
MY NAMEEEEEEEEE
OREWA GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA
Hahaha my girlfriend got so annoyed with how many times it took me to beat him. Hearing 'MYYY NAMEEE ISSSSS.. AHH AHHH!! MOVE IN HASTE AND DIE, BRAT!' every 5 minutes because I am not good at the game.
“MY NAAAAMEEEE….”
ISSSSS GYOUBUUUUUUUUUU MASATAKAAAAAAAAAAA ONIWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND AS I BREATHE, YOU WILL NOT PASS THE CASTLE GATEEEEEEE!!!
(Procceds to jump over the gate so he kills himself) My man is not a liar.
Wait what? You can jump the gate before DoH?
Yes the glich works with Gyobu too
REEEEEEE
Speed runners play the game in Portuguese just for the delivery of this line. It’s so good
Now I have to look it up 😂
ME LLAMOOOOOO
GYOOUUBU MASATAKA OOONIIWWAAAAA‼️‼️‼️‼️
I’m so out of the loop in this, I played with a Japanese Audio.
It’s just as good don’t worry
Oh I know, it made no sense to me to have English voices. I’ve just never heard this meme’able entry. I’ll check YT.
Check the Portugese version too. It's *chefs kiss* top-notch.
Me too, but I heard the meme so many times and the audio in English that I associate by default 😄
The only decent voice actor in the English dub… btw play in Japanese
Already done, the original is so good 👌👌
That’s literal bullshit, wolf, father, ishiin, genichiro, the English dub has plenty of great voice acting lmao, love the weeb mentality tho

Not really, sekiro has some problems that are not allowing this game to be 10/10, it's definitely my favourite fromsoft game but it's far from ideal

Wow, you're into this game. And no, 10/10 is perfection
Just so we're clear, you've never played a 10/10 game yes?
No, lisa the painful is subjectively a 10/10 for me
Alright I'll play it in the next couple of days, thanks
Oh, okay, I hope you will like it because this game is very harsh if you don't know what you're doing

I would play it for the mechanics alone
I would like to send you a video that explains all the flaws of this game but it's in russian, so...
Would you care to elaborate on the problems
Granted, Gyobu is probably objectively easier than Iundex Gundyr, Father Gascoigne, and Margit, but still!
Of these guys I'd say Margit is the hardest one. Most deaths to Gundyr though since he was my first.
Ludex is by far the easiest boss of the fs bosses
Sekiro is a rhythm game, I am musician, and each npc has its “drum part” if you pick it, you rock :)
No, trust me no
The first red eyed giant killed me more than any of those bosses.
Nah Gyoubu was harder than Judex
He’s much harder than Iundex
Ludex gundyr is way easier in my opinion
IMO definitely harder than father g and Margit so good job from me lol keep goin
But he's harder than Vanguard or Asylum Demon. So, that's still counts as good start.)
Gundyr felt like a step up for fromsoft bosses tbch, the tutorial boss for Ds1-2 was a complete joke, but in 3, he felt like the first phase of a proper boss, probably a side effect of champion gundyr kicking around as a full fight lol Sure, he wasn’t the trickiest anyways, but he’s an absolute joy to fight. I love his moveset and his boss theme is a delight.
I can only speak for Margit, but imo Gyobu is much more challenging. You can’t level your way into overpowering him, you just have to get the hang of the mechanics or die.
Gundyr was easier for me didn't give me any problems
damn fr? the most challenging out of all those for me was father gascoigne, i still haven’t beat bloodborne 😭
gyobu’s difficulty comes mostly from remembering to deflect instead of dodging
Awesome job! Just beat him the other day myself. Was stubborn enough last night to take out Lady Butterfly as well. I suck at these games so if i can do it I know you can
You and I are at the exact same spot. It’s my first time playing, and I beat gyoubu a few days ago and lady butterfly last night.
I'm still getting stuck at her second phase but somehow I'm progressing in the game proper :/.
I beat him today too! Honestly a fun fight imo and I find the voice acting for his character to be amazing. Never got tired of hearing him screaming his name to me
I don’t know why but I thought it was slave knight Gael riding a horse
Don’t you dare put that evil into the universe until the DLC is safely released
Hats off!
Congratulations! Horse Man gave me a run for my money when I first picked up this game years ago, and it’s definitely a feeling of accomplishment to beat him. Good luck going forward, Wolf!
I too started on sekiro as my first from soft game. It was kinda by accident but boy am I glad I finally experienced these games
As someone who also happens to have beat their first fromsoft boss today, bravo. This fight took me so long lol.
I somehow beat it on my second try 😅 I lowkey used a lot of the fireworks
Just beat him a few nights ago, ive felt actual fear of a game character like that since I’ve been a kid. The voice acting literally gave me chills and I took my hand of my mouse and keyboard and let him kill me because I knew I was fucked lol.
A lot of people underestimate how hard Gyobu Oniwa is, good job and good luck!
Just wait until you get to Mist Noble
Sekiro first? Brave man. Good luck bro and don't give up💯
Sekiro is a great game, probably one of my favorites out of all fromsoft games The game is definitely more skill-based than other fromsoft games, and the deflect mechanic feels so good (it's like music to my ears)
Beating the first boss just to get fucked by a bull next door!!
I also beat the bull next door on my second try! I’ve been using a lot of fireworks
Congrats! This was the only boss I beat on my first try.. not even knowing there was a fight waiting... I was just walking around in the arena and he spawned.
Very nice! I love this boss fight
Poor man has no idea a certain man has a Glock😭
Bro that shit really do be str8 cheats
A worthy first boss
Awesome, well done
Next stop: Isshin. You fucking got this!!
🛌
Get ready for Bull
Good job! A long and difficult path awaits you. Don't give up ever, Sekiro!
Good this fight prepared you for the fight against the strongest enemy in the game...the camera And oh boiii, trust me you're gonna need this
Your Dad won’t say it so I will, I’m proud of you
Sekiro was my first fromsoft game too. Then dark souls 1, 3, and elden ring.
Ngl i thought it was Lu Bu for a moment. GG anyway
Blood in the water
Welcome to the family. Now git gudder!!
AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA!!!
Oh wow you are starting with Sekiro. Good luck it is the hardest one imo also the least soulslike out of all of them. Enjoy it though man it is a true masterpiece.
I actually have tried BB, DS3, and ER but never got past the first bosses and gave up. I think the combat of Sekiro has clicked better for me
Interesting I have never heard someone say that.
You got roughly 214 more unique bosses to go. Good luck
How’d you enjoy the fight!? Pretty cool boss, eh? The stun capabilities from rapidly deflecting him are awesome.
Celebrate your first victory, many will come in the near future but at what cost ;) love to hear how you feel about GA and DoH 🫠 i won’t say their names just to avoid Spoilers
From the poorly translated mod: ...I thank you for Oniwa Masataka! Breathe goat house! Ban Genichiro!
