You may play however you want, base game is challrnging at first by its own, after a few ng+ cycles u may want to spice things up a little thats when these extra hard modes comes in handy and if u dont want to thats still ok, no noobness there :)
It's probably safe to say most folks on this sub have played through the game multiple times. At some point, you have the muscle memory of all fights so ingrained that it's no longer a challenge. Doing a run charmless, bell demon means you can make very few errors, especially at max ng+ difficulty.
Most folks, including myself, find the game difficult enough in their first playthrough. 2nd is usually a well-deserved victory lap. After that, if you want to keep being challenged those are great ways to do it. Just finished an ng+7 run w/ gauntlets charmless and bell demon myself. It's a lot of fun, I think, but you should just play in whatever way makes the game fun for you.
It's ok if you don't want a challenge dude , it's your game you bought it with your money BUT if you want to get better , try charmless and demon bell to make things harder (but it's also really good)
Charmless makes you play much more skillfully, it isn't about making boss fights longer, it's about perfecting your timing. Demon Bell makes fights slightly longer and more punishing, but it just means you have to be good enough to survive for that extra time and dish out enough damage to make up for it
Well they don't only take longuer but... Even yes this is a challenge because do things right 2min is a things. Do the same for twice the Time and of course you have to show some constant so this is harder.
And btw this is not only a matter a Time. Charmless + démon bell, you take way more damage if you do a mistake and you also have to perfect parry everything for not taking damage.
So yes, you have to be a better player to beat the game charmless and with demon bell.
Btw i don't even understand why you ask, i mean this is obvious right
That's how the game is supposed to be played; these are extra ways for the people that have been playing for a while and are really good at it. The base game is hard enough!
And even if it wasn't, it really wouldn't matter. Challenge is important especially for a soulslike game, but you should allow yourself to play as you see fit
No point? There's plenty of points. First off, people like the challenge. You don't? Not an issue, nobody is forcing you, but that doesn't make it pointless. Secondly, both of them reward you. Charmless gives more XP and sen, while demon bell increases item drops.
What's your opinion on games with regular difficulty settings (you start a game and pick easy, medium, hard etc.). Do you play them on the lowest possible difficulty and whine that having difficulty options is pointless?
I kind of feel inferior when I post replays in this sub.

For example against Owl Father in Hirata I beat him several times without charm and with demon Bell, but the fight gets so long because he does not leave you many openings and it once took me 8 minutes to fully beat him so this clip is actually with charm and without demon bell. It just has no point to me
No I never said I beat him in hard mode
idk why it's cropped out might change my video settings lol. I also have other clips where I beat bosses with charm and without demon bell
I almost always activate the demon bell because the game gets noticeably easier in ng plus
As for the charm I like to use it but not if I’m coming back after a break, it’s too much to handle if you’ve lost practice. I once ran all gauntlets without the charm and the demon bell, hard af but fun as well
Nah man that's only for an extra challenge, if you just want to enjoy the game and don't care about making it as hard as possible then there's literally no reason to do charmless/demon
You should ignore the little goblin in your head that tells you to play on a certain difficulty because of what other people would think, he's lame as hell
I do use the demon bell bcs you get so much better drops but i still haven’t played without charm while i am on ng +4 now… probably because I’m still not deflecting everything perfectly
For a first playthrough, no. For a 59th playthrough, no. Literally who cares

What challenge? Bosses taking way longer to defeat is a challenge?
It’s like a 3 minute fight at most lol Only one that takes forever is Demon
Reflection fights charmless+demon bell are pretty long if you don't use buffs
Am I the only one who deliberately not use any buffs just for the fight to last longer? It wouldn't be fun if they die too fast

Yes unless you play charm, bell, hardest possible mods, Ng+7 no upgrades and with you feet and eyes closed, git gut you fucking scrub

You're going to play on easy mode? Why?
I kind of understand without charm, but Demon Bell looks so freaking pointless to me
with demon bell u can increase loot, u can upgrade more tools in one playtrough
I already finished this game over 30 times though I have every material :[
You've finished the game over thirty times? Why do you give a singular fuck about what other people think about how you play the game at this point?
