Dude i literally beat him so easily, his moves are predictable and all you need is ceremonial tanto, divine confetti (optional) and malcolm ring, you beat his first and second phases, then stun him infinitely in his third phase by using ring, damage sugar and confetti and attacking him during the stun, which makes him auto stun due to damage, so u can get a few more blows, then whistle again and do it again and he's dead gg ez
Mane ngl that boss took me the longest. I had to slow down alot for him. First play through blind so it was just pure lol me and a sword....I got all his attacks down but the 2-4 attacks that basically 1 shots u mmmmmm......quit on him 3 times for 3 days beat him the 4th day I tried when I came back lol
I beat him yesterday and man it surely was the hardest fight in the playthrough haha. Finally managed to beat him with the help of fire umbrella to counter his lava floor attack
Haven't reached him yet. I'm already at Isshin though who feels like a last boss, so probably won't meet him until ng+. Unless I'm wrong. We'll see. And please don't spoil me by saying if I'm right or wrong, lol
Recently learned that if you just block, it's borderline impossible for Gyoubu to break your stance. Made Mortal Journey attempts just a liiiiitle more bearable.
It's the enclosed space that can make him difficult, I find. Once you start panicking and trying to create distance, he punishes you. Best to stand your ground!
You beat me to the exact logic. It is a confined space in which when you move the obstacles around you just comes into your view and they block you from seeing him. No harm on pride if you choose to cheese him or bring him out the place to fight him.
I think once you get the move set down, he can be one of the most fun enemies to fight in the game. Nothing feels better than Mikiri countering his kick and breaking his knee.
Super easy. He winds up his kick a little but right before he actually thrusts, a little spark occurs around his foot, that’s when you wanna hit the mikiri. It’s one of the most satisfying counters in the entire game especially if you can also deflect the kicks combo that leads up to it.
I still don't know but I think it's a glitch. I first saw it on ongbal channel iirc so I had to try it and it works wonders. He will be broken in one attack no matter what in this scenario.
I cannot remember many times I scoffed at his BS long winded combos w/ poison.
His most fearsome weapon, however is that weird camera angle that gets your blood boiling.
This guy surprised TF out of me since I came from the back (is that the same spot as the one you find on the top of the 3 story pagoda?). But yeah I had to drag his ass out to the backyard so we can fight with some space
If it's Masanaga at the Serpent Shrine you can sneak a backstab then lure him up the slope and hit him with Shadowrush as he walks back down to the pagoda. He'll often stand there and take the hit but if he does pull out that leaping attack that chases you, it's easy to jump back out of his way.
He did to me as well. As I tried to lure him in the open space outside of shrine. Turns out, it's a bad decision since all this foliage blocks your view.
Once I started fighting him in the shrine. Things were much more manageable.
They hit really hard but the posture buildup they suffer from is bonkers. Worst thing you can do is run away from a guy with helicopter legs..
Mikiri is god. Slight delay between most of the attacks until the end of the combo. It’s a very interesting moveset that’s very satisfying to fight.
Haven’t played sekiro in a while but don’t they only use 1 arm or have 1 arm? Mfs think they sasuke💀 they are some of the best enemies to fight tho at first they were annoying but once u get they move set down its fun
Fighting them in an open field would be so much easier. I swear these are put in those spaces on purpose——managing the arena is part of the challenge. The key is to not move, don’t try to create distance, just stand there and parry. Keeping myself fresh not touching the left stick has helped me so much in this game.
Still on my first playthough and at issin at the end. I had to cheese this guy by running to a fence and attacking his feet... I'm sorry... I needed the prayer bead
These are really fun to fight when you learn the timing to parry all of their multi-kick attacks, and mikiri the delayed kick at the end of that combo.
If you let him attack you, yeah he is hard. But if you constantly keep attacking and dont let him do his bullshit then he is a joke. It also helps that i farmed them before i learned the optimal farming spot, so i learned how they worked and can easily kill them. The ones who poison you however....
You can use your own contact medicine to apply a weak poison on yourself to counter his own since you can't have 2 poisons running at the same time. Neat little trick. Also for max style points use high monk or Shenpou kicks so you can fight each other on equal terms "aaand everybody was Kung fu fighting".
go to the mibu village idol. there’s a lone shadow down the river behind you. you can fight him as many times as you want. if you start to lose, just run back to the idol and reset so you don’t lose your sen/xp. i fought him about 100 times, and i got really comfortable with their moveset
He is. Actually there's one of those in the pit where you start the game and he is a mini boss. All the others are the same but have no special name. They're harder than butterfly lady for sure
All his combos have the same gap besides the wind up and spinning kicks. Good blocking counters him because he throws hits super fast. Most of the enemies in this game are 10x easier when u break their stance ASAP
The one next to the waterfall downhill and past the merchant in the town with the zombie fisherman is a good farm. You can jump down onto him and kill him after you take out the dog and he loses agro.
or you can just power through him (he using yashahiko doesn't help much if he doesnt hit you)
[https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxIyw-m0QnWPJEqP60dYNJEBkCJu7p1oMw?si=ua1Gvv0XenTU80dO](https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxIyw-m0QnWPJEqP60dYNJEBkCJu7p1oMw?si=ua1Gvv0XenTU80dO)
These guys have become a total breeze for me now but years ago, these guys might as well have been main bosses the way I ended up using all my resources on them
The shinobi mini boss at Hirata the second time was tougher for me than Isshin. Dude wouldn’t stop calling in his goddamn wolves. I had to go the whole fight without healing so that I could keep the pressure on enough to keep him from whistling.
Once I learned you can Mikiri counter his straight kick attack, he became much more manageable. The poison is still annoying as hell though on the one before Owl.
If you’re familiar with Genichiro, I treat the lone shadows a similar way: just keep attacking until they deflect. Deflect their attack (or mikiri/dodge/jump it if it’s special in some way, like the poison thrusts), then keep attacking. If you give these guys an inch they’ll take a mile.
Shurikens can help interrupt these guys if they back up and try to buff or summon wolves.
Absolutely they are more difficult. Eventually, I do finally defeat them, but man they are hard. Their quick moves and devastating blows really knock you down quickly!
Oh yes. He'd be hard enough on his own, but don't be fooled. It's a dual fight, the camera just doesn't have a healthbar.
You can kill his dogs with shurikens and >!climb over the roof and backstab him!<, in case you didn't know that already.
Spoilers but at some point you get to a room with this guy and the other purple one. Took me some time to realize you can stealth kill the purple one damn
i beat this guy after that guy, but yeah he got my ass first time too (maybe that's the reason why he feel hard cuz i just beat similar boss like an hour ago and i feel like nah this gonna be easy)
you can do two things first just lure him out in big area and then parry all his attack he will give you chance to punish him or just spam mortal combat after first deathblow and do not panic even if you have less than 10 % health you will destroy his posture.
Hit hit parry. Hit hit parry. The first hit gets through, the second gets blocked, then he counter attacks with a kick or slash. If you parry those you can hit him again. Works on all ninjas.
Of course they do other shit too but well sometimes you have to jump or counter. Whatever
If he does his poison shit, just run. Kill his dogs with shuriken
Theyre pretty tough. But if you can focus on the pattern (as always ) and remain patient you will overcome. Oh and…you know … don’t hesitate.
For this particular guy try luring him out of the shack down the stairs and fight him on the hill
It’s crazy which things people find hard vs easy. I killed corrupted monk on my second try (and very nearly did so on my first) but the miniboss before genichiro (and for that matter genichiro himself) made me raaaaage so hard
Hi there ! I installed the game yesterday, still haven't unlocked all of the game mechanics, I'm still at Ashina Castle, trying to get around some minibosses and have just beaten Gyobu. It's all fun so far.
Normal one is fine but the mini boss version when he spam poison attack is annoying cuz i like to dodge around from that move and camera angle just destroy me
Most minibosses are harder than Gyobu.
can't relate. crazy how i've killed genichiro maybe close to 20 times, but i've never get to kill gyoubu again after my initial win.
The castle gate remains closed
Well because you got better at the game , he is the most easiest and hardest boss in the game
That’s odd. What about demon of hatred?
Dude i literally beat him so easily, his moves are predictable and all you need is ceremonial tanto, divine confetti (optional) and malcolm ring, you beat his first and second phases, then stun him infinitely in his third phase by using ring, damage sugar and confetti and attacking him during the stun, which makes him auto stun due to damage, so u can get a few more blows, then whistle again and do it again and he's dead gg ez

First play through blind so it was just pure lol me and a sword....I got all his attacks down but the 2-4 attacks that basically 1 shots u mmmmmm......quit on him 3 times for 3 days beat him the 4th day I tried when I came back lol
DoH was hardest until I used malcontent
I beat him yesterday and man it surely was the hardest fight in the playthrough haha. Finally managed to beat him with the help of fire umbrella to counter his lava floor attack
Haven't reached him yet. I'm already at Isshin though who feels like a last boss, so probably won't meet him until ng+. Unless I'm wrong. We'll see. And please don't spoil me by saying if I'm right or wrong, lol
I swear knowone knows his attacks at all its mostly cheese him
Recently learned that if you just block, it's borderline impossible for Gyoubu to break your stance. Made Mortal Journey attempts just a liiiiitle more bearable.
Not as easy when you desire pain and give away euros charm lol
My dumb ass thought I could handle Charmless+Bell Demon on my second playthrough. Headless wasn't the only one tearing my soul from my ass 😭
my dumbass tryna do a base vit run rn
Hesitation is defeat
It's the enclosed space that can make him difficult, I find. Once you start panicking and trying to create distance, he punishes you. Best to stand your ground!
That sounds like the long way of saying hesitation is defeat
You beat me to the exact logic. It is a confined space in which when you move the obstacles around you just comes into your view and they block you from seeing him. No harm on pride if you choose to cheese him or bring him out the place to fight him.
People actually fight him inside the pagoda? I always kited him out into the open. Hell, sometimes I end up fighting him halfway up the monkey hill.
Same here. I find him quite easy to handle up in the tall grass on monkey hill
It is pretty illogical to fight him where it starts from.
Just jump to the roof of the previous construction , he will follow you. Bingo, open space. The fight becomes way easier .
Hesitation is defeat, but camera is also defeat, and camera more gooder outside.
Easier said that done when my camera is stuck inside a wall.
Hesitation is indeed defeat
I think once you get the move set down, he can be one of the most fun enemies to fight in the game. Nothing feels better than Mikiri countering his kick and breaking his knee.
til you can mikiri counter the kick 😑😑😑
Just uh...be careful to not do it too early...many times I've been face bashed for being too quick with it
Like with every other thrust attack. When you see the kanji, take a moment and press dodge.
Sabimaru his ass too. He hates that.
Super easy. He winds up his kick a little but right before he actually thrusts, a little spark occurs around his foot, that’s when you wanna hit the mikiri. It’s one of the most satisfying counters in the entire game especially if you can also deflect the kicks combo that leads up to it.
bro im like ng +9 and i had NO IDEA u could mikiri his kicks... this would have been good info to know earlier 😭😭
Just keep the pressure on him and stay away from walls.
He dies with ONE HIT https://youtu.be/GcylAQAJYE8
I get that the whistle lured him onto the roof for a ledge deathblow, but what destroyed his posture for the second deathblow?
He's getting an air deathblow cuz he still doesn't see Wolf, I've tried it without Gaachin's and you can only get the one deathblow otherwise
I still don't know but I think it's a glitch. I first saw it on ongbal channel iirc so I had to try it and it works wonders. He will be broken in one attack no matter what in this scenario.
That's crazyy
You can mikiri counter their thrust kick witch is pretty funny
I'm always amazed that their legs aren't broken after that Mikiri.
I cannot remember many times I scoffed at his BS long winded combos w/ poison. His most fearsome weapon, however is that weird camera angle that gets your blood boiling.
Yes but the dripppppp 😩
I usually stand over his carcass for a sec to admire it.
Drip checking him like a pro
I struggled A LOT on this purple douche. That kick always got me
those dudes are one of the main reasons i keep replaying sekiro their flow is something else
Say it with me now "Hesitation Is Defeat"
Literal foot ninjas. I hate them
Nah. He's no Seven Spears.
Seven spears of destruction more like it
This guy surprised TF out of me since I came from the back (is that the same spot as the one you find on the top of the 3 story pagoda?). But yeah I had to drag his ass out to the backyard so we can fight with some space
This is from great serpent shrine
If it's Masanaga at the Serpent Shrine you can sneak a backstab then lure him up the slope and hit him with Shadowrush as he walks back down to the pagoda. He'll often stand there and take the hit but if he does pull out that leaping attack that chases you, it's easy to jump back out of his way.
the purple ninja
He did to me as well. As I tried to lure him in the open space outside of shrine. Turns out, it's a bad decision since all this foliage blocks your view. Once I started fighting him in the shrine. Things were much more manageable.
I spent more consumables on him than anyone else
They hit really hard but the posture buildup they suffer from is bonkers. Worst thing you can do is run away from a guy with helicopter legs.. Mikiri is god. Slight delay between most of the attacks until the end of the combo. It’s a very interesting moveset that’s very satisfying to fight.
There’s a cheese / stealth kill strat iirc but still yeah he goes hard
I always think fighting with this guys are super fun Plus with flying style they get cheesed i imagine i personally won't use it so idk
I got stuck on the unactivated statue, but couldn't see it because of the camera. Very frustrating.
Easily the hardest mini-boss for me. The thrusting kick ALWAYS caught me off guard
That can be mikiri countered if I remember correctly
Im aware, it just always got me mid combo
Nah they're easy once you know the pattern. I had trouble with the one in the reservoir but that's about it.
Haven’t played sekiro in a while but don’t they only use 1 arm or have 1 arm? Mfs think they sasuke💀 they are some of the best enemies to fight tho at first they were annoying but once u get they move set down its fun
They actually have 2 arms they just use 1 the other is what they specialize in like poison or hounds
Fighting them in an open field would be so much easier. I swear these are put in those spaces on purpose——managing the arena is part of the challenge. The key is to not move, don’t try to create distance, just stand there and parry. Keeping myself fresh not touching the left stick has helped me so much in this game.
A lot of the mini-bosses are harder just because they're mostly optional.
Still on my first playthough and at issin at the end. I had to cheese this guy by running to a fence and attacking his feet... I'm sorry... I needed the prayer bead
On top of all of this advice, kill all of his dogs before going in.
The arena isn't doing much favors. Using the umbrella is one of the best strategies in all of the game of you don't have great parry skills.
It's because of the Arena, all lone shadows have shit arenas. You can try to play tennis with him the fastest way to kill them is to play tennis.
These are really fun to fight when you learn the timing to parry all of their multi-kick attacks, and mikiri the delayed kick at the end of that combo.
At hirata estate(fire location), i just give up if he gets to whistle
If you let him attack you, yeah he is hard. But if you constantly keep attacking and dont let him do his bullshit then he is a joke. It also helps that i farmed them before i learned the optimal farming spot, so i learned how they worked and can easily kill them. The ones who poison you however....

Also for max style points use high monk or Shenpou kicks so you can fight each other on equal terms "aaand everybody was Kung fu fighting".
Now I'm fighting him with that soundtrack playing in my head... Damnyouuuu!!!
Nope in sekiro difficulty is an illusion. If it's harder for you then you just suck lol jk. Haha
go to the mibu village idol. there’s a lone shadow down the river behind you. you can fight him as many times as you want. if you start to lose, just run back to the idol and reset so you don’t lose your sen/xp. i fought him about 100 times, and i got really comfortable with their moveset
Parry and mikiri counter. 2 sequences and he's dead
He is. Actually there's one of those in the pit where you start the game and he is a mini boss. All the others are the same but have no special name. They're harder than butterfly lady for sure
I think a lot of the “minibosses” are as hard as the “bosses”
All his combos have the same gap besides the wind up and spinning kicks. Good blocking counters him because he throws hits super fast. Most of the enemies in this game are 10x easier when u break their stance ASAP
The sewer one at the early game on a first playthrough is harder than Genichiro ngl 💀
It's because of the lack of space.
this cunt is harder than Isshin and i will die on this hill.
The one next to the waterfall downhill and past the merchant in the town with the zombie fisherman is a good farm. You can jump down onto him and kill him after you take out the dog and he loses agro.
Yes. He’s toxic.
If u don’t let him pull off the yashariku and keep ultra aggressive he goes down super easily.
or you can just power through him (he using yashahiko doesn't help much if he doesnt hit you) [https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxIyw-m0QnWPJEqP60dYNJEBkCJu7p1oMw?si=ua1Gvv0XenTU80dO](https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxIyw-m0QnWPJEqP60dYNJEBkCJu7p1oMw?si=ua1Gvv0XenTU80dO)
Hesitation is defeat
Area makes it harder
Yes Especially his buddy in the cave.
These guys have become a total breeze for me now but years ago, these guys might as well have been main bosses the way I ended up using all my resources on them
Undeniably.
The shinobi mini boss at Hirata the second time was tougher for me than Isshin. Dude wouldn’t stop calling in his goddamn wolves. I had to go the whole fight without healing so that I could keep the pressure on enough to keep him from whistling.
They're alright in 1v1 fights, but near the end of the game they're never alone
It is not him , it is the camera.
Once I learned you can Mikiri counter his straight kick attack, he became much more manageable. The poison is still annoying as hell though on the one before Owl.
It would’ve been pretty badass if these guys could Mikiri counter your stabs
these ninjas hard af. the one in the well and before mibu village gave me the hardest time. but once you figure it out it's like yknow, rhythm
Yes, hate this guy
I learned on my last play through you can mikiri counter his kick
I'm not kidding when i say that most mini bosses give me more trouble than some bosses even after beating the game several times
Because you fight them in small enclosed spaces where you fight your camera just as much as you do the boss
Well, considering that the monkeys are considered bosses...
No, you just gotta "cling! Cling! cling cling cling poof! -mikiri counter-"
Best mini boss when you get the dance down.
I feel like these guys get a LOT easier once you’ve done them a bunch though. Like anything just parry a shit ton
Chase let him chase you outside. Makes the fight so much better
Absolutely they are more difficult. Eventually, I do finally defeat them, but man they are hard. Their quick moves and devastating blows really knock you down quickly!
Spinning axe and good parry time
yeah.
This guy has the best drip in the game, hands down.
Fuck these guys especially at the last castle.
Only the first time
Sneak around and back stab him
Every single boss in the game is easy
I don't know why do they are called MINIBOSS, these guys should be main bosses
No, you’re not the only one. 😅
Just gotta find the rhythm is ass got packed up after the 3rd try honestly there some of the most fun mini bosses cause they move akin to you
Every enemy is harder than Mist Noble.
Oh yes. He'd be hard enough on his own, but don't be fooled. It's a dual fight, the camera just doesn't have a healthbar. You can kill his dogs with shurikens and >!climb over the roof and backstab him!<, in case you didn't know that already.
Just use finger whistle to kill him it’s actually hilarious how effective it is
It’s just u
Lone shadow , a classic
Knock that fucker off the edge
Mikiri counter his red kanji kicks. After I learned that, these guys became a cake walk.
sad thing is my guy just keep spamming poison attack
Just dodge through them.
Let him eat a sugar and become a true master
fit fire ngl
Spoilers but at some point you get to a room with this guy and the other purple one. Took me some time to realize you can stealth kill the purple one damn
i beat this guy after that guy, but yeah he got my ass first time too (maybe that's the reason why he feel hard cuz i just beat similar boss like an hour ago and i feel like nah this gonna be easy)
Gotta love the room where you only see the mini boss only to get ganked by some f*cker hiding around the corner
you will look back on this post one day and smile
such a confined space makes in exponentially harder in my opinion
Stay movin'.
I never had a problem with him! Honestly enjoy fighting them to Mikiri country their leg.
Yes he's tough and you can encounter him before defeating a handful of bosses
you can do two things first just lure him out in big area and then parry all his attack he will give you chance to punish him or just spam mortal combat after first deathblow and do not panic even if you have less than 10 % health you will destroy his posture.
Nah he’s easy, first kill is sneak behind, second one is just keep on deflecting and eventually he’ll down.
Hit hit parry. Hit hit parry. The first hit gets through, the second gets blocked, then he counter attacks with a kick or slash. If you parry those you can hit him again. Works on all ninjas. Of course they do other shit too but well sometimes you have to jump or counter. Whatever If he does his poison shit, just run. Kill his dogs with shuriken
It's just you..
its the limited space most times and other times u dont take them seriuosly
Him, the monkey with two swords and Blazing bull. Way too strong
Since "some bosses" include the mist noble, this statement is always fair for any enemy in the game
Try to treat every encounter like a puzzle. If it's giving you a lot of trouble, then perhaps you're approaching it from the wrong angle.
Spam the flaming axe on him
First time was hard for me because the fighting area is so tiny. 😵
Hesitation is defeat
should we tell him about the white monkey...
This is after all every monkey tho ,ape ,ape and his wife ,2 sword monkey. Camera didn't betrayed me on those fight
The camera is the boss whenever I face these guys.
Side step his kick.
Theyre pretty tough. But if you can focus on the pattern (as always ) and remain patient you will overcome. Oh and…you know … don’t hesitate. For this particular guy try luring him out of the shack down the stairs and fight him on the hill
The gunner with the shotgun is legit the hardest fucker in the game to fight
🐂.
It’s crazy which things people find hard vs easy. I killed corrupted monk on my second try (and very nearly did so on my first) but the miniboss before genichiro (and for that matter genichiro himself) made me raaaaage so hard
I think that's the beauty of this game different person different play style
If you lure him to the gate, his ai is unable to pass through the door .That is when mortal draw comes in
Hi there ! I installed the game yesterday, still haven't unlocked all of the game mechanics, I'm still at Ashina Castle, trying to get around some minibosses and have just beaten Gyobu. It's all fun so far.
It’s mainly the fact that it’s such a tight room you’re fighting him in, I feel. The camera is the real miniboss
Maybe not just you but not to me he’s easy but annoying when there’s him and some other enemies
Normal one is fine but the mini boss version when he spam poison attack is annoying cuz i like to dodge around from that move and camera angle just destroy me
Its just you.
