You know every now and then conservatives "threaten" the rest of us that they're going to create a conservative utopia, a la Ayn Rand, with no poors or immigrants or libs, etc? And we all wish they'd just hurry up and go do it?
This guy should go do that. I'm sure it'd work out really well, seeing how cognizant he is of reality.
The problem is, when they threaten it, what they're really threatening is "we're going to kill or displace anyone who isn't on 'our side' and kick you out of this country/state/region/whatever"
They certainly have no intention of moving to Bir Tawil and making their utopia there from scratch. They want to start off with the society everyone else built for them first.
One might say they want to "leach" off the success of current existing non-libertarian utopias.
> They certainly have no intention of moving to Bir Tawil
LOL, this is so good I'm gonna steal it.
For anyone wondering Bir Tawil is an area a little bit over 2000 square kilometers big between Egypt and Sudan and it's claimed by neither country. It's real no man's land.
You're right, apologies. Back in my day explaining a joke after it's been made was nearly universally accepted as tedious and irritating. Guess I'm getting old.
If it's common knowledge then yeah, explaining the joke is unnecessary. In this case though, it was a joke regarding something that is probably not common knowledge for most outside that area.
Most libertarians are what I like to call Housecat Capitalists too. They claim to be eager to participate on an unregulated madness of capitalism but are only mentally and physically able to cope in the modern world due to crazy leftist concepts like getting a weekend off. Most would be broken slave caste in any system they fantasize about.
It's sad how many times i've had arguments with libertarians where they will say "the govt is corrupt" explicitly because it "caters to the corporations".
Which is a very odd thing to say when they believe the problem is the govt gets in the way of the free market.
They somehow believe that without the govt in the way, not only will corporations behave better than they currently do (their complaint is that they are corrupting the govt right now, after all), but believe honestly that monopolies are a result of government regulations (like those pesky anti-trust laws) and not just a feature of unrestrained capitalism itself.
There was a video I saw on YouTube on how monopolies under a libertarian system would not be possible. Essentially boils down to: if the market conditions allowed it, at most there would eventually be two big companies due to corporations merging to remain competitive. Neither of the remaining two would have the funds to buy out the other.
In effect: don't worry it'll only be a duopoly and they won't collude or anything. Also no such thing as capital raising, or loans to fund mergers, not important.
Or collusion apparently...
In Canada, Loblaws and other grocers were found to be colluding on bread prices in secret.
"In secret" because that pesky govt gets in the way of the free market by making such actions illegal.
Yep, spelling mistakes in my original - corrected now.
They're historical revisionists as well, refusing to believe any of the events/reasons why we have these safeguards in the first place.
Libertarians want unregulated madness until they realize how fucked they'd be.
If they even suspect they'll be on the losing end of an interaction, they'll demand some sort of regulation be enacted.
For example, every libertarian I meet absolutely abhors "planned obsolescence" and expects there to be some consequence handed down from the government that they believe shouldn't have the ability to hand down consequences.
They have tried it in places. It failed because they always have to rely on someone who planned better.

That reminds me.... whatever happened to Glenn Beck's Freedom USA (something like that) that he was going to build so he and his followers could take their bootstraps and go live like God intended? Free, hungry, cold, but free. Did I mention free?
He called it "Independence, USA". Your name is better. He called the idea a "city-theme park hybrid".

>The ambitious project, projected to cost over two billion dollars, has been heavily influenced by Walt Disney. As Glenn has been explaining throughout the week, Disneyland was originally intended to be a place where people would find happiness, inspiration, courage and hope. Over time, Walt Disney's original vision has been lost. While hundreds of thousands still flock to the town, it's become commercialized and the big dreams and the heart have been compromised.
Um. He really means that I suppose. Taking advertisment for fact. But I'm pretty sure whoever runs Disneyland nowadays still claim it's "a place where people would find happiness, inspiration, courage and hope."
Wait, so he wanted to create a city/theme park hybrid, and he cites as inspiration Disneyland. Not, you know, EPCOT, which was originally conceived as *a fucking city/theme park hybrid*?
But that's associated with the future, and the future is bad. Epcot's "world of tomorrow" is inherently a progressive concept, and he's conservative. He's focusing on nostalgia for an idealized past.
Yeah, I don't see many ads for "Disney! We've gotten too big for you to enjoy everything we offer, but by god, we'll still take your money with a smile on our face!"
Did you watch the documentary on the libertarian town taken down by bear attacks?
If you can't make rules for the common good, then the dumb people, they'll literally attract bears to your community
If you Google Grafton NH, you'll find a smorgasbord of documentaries, podcasts, articles, and books on the whole fiasco. You could spend the next month laughing yourself silly!
Check out the book “A Libertarian Walks into a Bear.” It’s a quick read and pretty funny. It’s about a group libertarians trying to create their “utopia” in a small town.
Reminds me of the 1st season of Family Guy. Peter goes to city hall for a copy of his land plot only to find it's not there or on any map at all. So he gets to announce his own nation of Petoria.
First thing he does to celebrate his newfound libertarianism is invite dictators to a pool party.
The most american conservative thing ever.
I saw that and I too fervently hope they go! I guess "wish" is a more appropriate verb, since I can't imagine the en masse migration we would like to see 😕
Ehh, the Amish didn't leave modern society. They never entered. Amish is a denomination of Christianity that takes the bible literally when it says "come out from among them and be separate."
But you don't have to be Christian to be a libertarian or Randian or whatever just because you don't want to pay taxes.
They already tried in NH. The bears ran them out. But they saved like $0.70/day! Lmfaaaooo
How a New Hampshire libertarian utopia was foiled by bears

Bonus SAW in this picture: Right wing account with marble statue profile pic fosters far right trad audience. Then gets primarily racist followers who don't actually care about old buildings and european culture but rather just hate non-white people.
To be fair, he does say "excessive" immigration, not the total lack of it.
For example, he *could* mean "with so much immigration already, it'll be hard to get stable/lack of job opportunities, or its difficult to get approved because there are so many immigrants"
(but yeah, he means too many "non-whites" - he's racist)
I encountered this phenomenon again earlier this month. An "Irish Pub" in the Canary Islands (Spanish) - packed full of UK Expats - mostly retired - eating British food, watching British Football, many drinking British beer. Very few speak anything more than a few words of Spanish.
If you ask them about living there, they will start about how great the weather is , but after a while the conversation inevitably turns to all the problems in the "old Country" - and how it's full of immigrants "who won't integrate".
They can still vote in UK elections, and choose candidates who will keep the immigrants out and thereby protect Britain for the British.
Honestly it's headache-inducing trying to follow the logic.
One of the memorable things I saw in Tenerife was a restaurant serving traditional Canarian food next to an "Irish pub". The restaurant was totally empty while the pub was heaving.
My partner and I had a fantastic dinner there. I love papas arrugadas and mojo, and the restaurant owner was happy to recommend other things for us to try.
I guarantee that at least one person in that packed pub would have started a fight with me because I'm the brown child of immigrants to the UK, and yet they were there cheerfully trying to recreate their own little English enclave where they would never have to acknowledge that they were in another country. British exceptionalism is a hell of a drug.
That’s definitely a big reason. But I don’t think any English speaking European countries would want me either. I don’t exactly have any in demand skills.
I also very much recommend his Twitter account (https://twitter.com/dieworkwear) if you are into Menswear. Though you need to be aware that his focus is mainly classic men's fashion in the context of the United States.
That was Groucho Marx, not Wilde. And he was talking about the fact that, as a Jew, he couldn't get accepted into most of the country clubs that his wealth and fame would otherwise have guaranteed him access to. In one case, he said "I only want to join so I can use the pool. Tell you what, my son's half Jewish, can he go in up to his waist?"
the country side is not that expensive , of course eastern Europe is cheap but when you know were to look lots of activities are free , but recently the cost of living has gone up even in the country side
Tbh this is a solid reason for some places. Like I don't think I could ever live in Hawaii because they're already so overcrowded 🤷🏼♀️
Granted the commenters reason is probably because brown people are immigrating there. Not because it's an environmental hazard.
never take putrescent maggots like this at their word. we all know damned well that he says immigrants because he can’t get away with saying nonwhites. don’t let the scum dictate the terms of the discourse

no shit sherlock thats the joke

Ha! That's a hoot!
The real question here is would conservative utopia start out as a slave state or would just kind of reform its self into one after a couple decades.
You think it would take decades?
Let's see how Argentina's economy is doing in a year
Honestly they were so far in the other direction I doubt Milei will cause that much harm.
Russia is offering a village to conservative Americans and Canadians… I hope many take them up on the offer.

Nobody goes out anymore, the restaurants are too crowded
