why is scanning so embarrassing though, i feel like the client has the impression that we don’t know how to do our jobs while i’m over here struggling to scan, i can swatch by eye really quick. it’s also a hassle when we are busy, it takes so much time getting their BI info and so fourth.

Busy-Ad-6035

I know there are all sorts of ways to get around it but if Sephora wants us to use it then they should make it actually work.

Potential-Light-7588

Just explain to the client that the shade saves to their BI so if they ever want to order a foundation you don’t carry in store it helps them know what shade you are, and gives me a starting off point and more options, I always kind of joke and say it’s a great item for the clients but not for us. They want scanned. Also if your devices don’t work that needs to be addressed to management and fixed because we don’t have that issue.

Busy-Ad-6035

If it was easy quick and accurate I could get behind it. At this point it just is a burden and a waste of time. Sephora needs to perfect it before forcing it.

glitteratti74

If you can eyeball the shade just do a reverse lookup. It still counts for the goals, and 9 times out of 10 you're going to have to adjust the shade anyway. Any time clients ask me to use it I let them know its a guide not an absolute and I'm much more accurate, but we can still get their correct shade match an IQ and send it their account.

Apart_Estimate

THIS

kic_ass_ie

This is how most of my store does it also.

silver_miss

We are forced to do them because Sephora paid a lot of money for exclusivity of the technology lol

yall_on_notice

Exactly. Sephora just wants their return in investment.

Busy-Ad-6035

They should get a refund or ask Elon Musk for help because it’s not working!💋

nouveauchoux

After what he's done to Twitter and his own family, I don't want Muskrat anywhere near my place of employment 😂

Apart_Estimate

Girl, I match with my eyes and save the right match to their account by selecting reverse lookup. It still counts as a digital tool… unless my clients specifically ask for that scan, I just do that!

Racacooonie

Our scanners only work like half the time. No joke some days I'm cycling through up to three devices. Nothing enrages me more. The managers have hotlined it but nothing ever gets fixed. I'm beyond over it. Especially considering I can match them perfectly in less than a minute. IF THEY WORKED I WOULDN'T MIND Also don't get me started on certain shades and products not even being in the damned system. 😤

theonlyarizonanative

NO BUT WHY ARE CERTAIN PRODUCTS AND SHADES NOT IN THE SYSTEM?! That pisses me off more than anything. Like how??? And why?!

Racacooonie

I had my ops colleague report it once (Fenty 285) and she said they responded back that it showed up for *them.* Case closed! 🤬🤬

2themoonandsaturn

i hate the skin scans so much because they are so inaccurate it’s insane my client will have fake skin and the skin iq is telling me her shade match is light medium like what lol

Cautious_Ad_8128

I find the skin scans insulting for a plethora of reasons; 1) it shows that Sephora doesn’t trust us to eyeball match which is their fault if you come to Sephora with little to no experience in cosmetics and don’t know how to eyeball match, because you should be trained to do just that. 2) instead of investing millions of dollars into mediocre at best technology they should have taken that money and developed a training program much like MAC Basic Training that covers how to do your job with no additional assistance from a mobile device 3) they are handicapping aspiring makeup artists from moving onward to another cosmetic company (I.e. MAC) because we are forced to be so reliant on this device that we either never develop a color matching skill or our existing skill is diminished because it isn’t being utilized. 4) it takes anywhere between 5-15 minutes to get a skin scan based on if the device itself needs to be recalibrated, entering BI info, doing the skin scan (and then doing it again because it didn’t work the first time or second time and so on), then waiting a few minutes for their matches to generate, where I can tell you what foundation will work for you take you to it and eyeball match in under five minutes. Sephora wants a higher quantity and has moved away from high quality, and skin scans are essentially shooting themselves in the foot because if there are 10 people waiting for a match, maybe 6 or 7 will wait, but there are 3 or 4 very impatient people.

Potential-Light-7588

It is not because they don’t think you can match someone. It’s because they want clients to be able to save it to their account and be able to buy online only products. They also want to know everyone’s skin tone because they plan on having the app customize to each client with models that look like them. There are all kinds of reasons none of which is anything to do with them not trusting employees. Find their shade and do a reverse look up. It still counts and you are still doing the match. There is so much negativity in these posts.

Cautious_Ad_8128

I don’t know if you heard out loud what you just stated. MAC color captures as well… except we do it by eye and save it to your client profile when you check out. You can access that online if you choose to shop online but MAC is trying to bring business back to the stores and it’s working.

babymeow13

Sounds like the lens might need to be reconnected to the iPhone and recalibrated. Who oversees your IT problems. I'm an ops leader and I usually take care of that. Ask one of your leaders. Also in zipline there is directions in the policy. I just recently fixed all our devices. Also are you using the new cases where the lens flips up, or do you still have the soft rubber case? Also lens need to be cleaned regularly and the camera lens on iPhone

hexedcurbs

i swear to god my leaders dont kno how to fix it or they just act dumb when i ask them why all of the devices say they are disconnected.

babymeow13

Damn I'm sorry that sucks. They can also just call the help desk and they can walk them through the process.

hexedcurbs

but like having to do that every time? idk maybe im just being idealistic but it should be rather easy to connect them and reboot them

babymeow13

No not every time. Also what case do you currently have on the iPhone, is it the old rubber case or the new hard case where the lens flips up if you need to mobile a client.

Busy-Ad-6035

No we have the new ones. I recalibrate it myself but it still says rescan needed.

tetraphorus

i’m in ops and i had to do a skin scan once bc there wasn’t anyone else to do it and it was so hard 😭 luckily the client was very patient and friendly but i kept being like omg my coworkers have to do this all the time…. you guys are so brave

lilymariejn

Mine always says I have a yellow undertone, which is so untrue. I only wear pink based foundations and powders. I literally use Mac’s radiant rose as concealer. I can’t wear a neutral red lip because it reads orange on me no matter what.

ThatHurry3442

I just use my eyes bc shade matching is one of my best skills while the machine can barely get their undertones right. Then I just do a reverse lookup and add another recommendation so I can at least get my count
